Obama To Pander With Amnesty Promise

From a buoyant Agence France-Pressee (AFP):

Obama to give major speech on immigration reform

July 1, 2010

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama will give a major speech Thursday calling for action to fix America’s broken immigration system, though few observers believe any major reform can pass this year.

Obama will speak at American University in Washington in an effort to ignite new momentum behind the massive and politically problematic drive to secure US borders and deal with millions of illegal immigrants.

"He thought this was a good time to talk plainly with the American people about his views on immigration," White House deputy spokesman Bill Burton said on Wednesday.

The last thing Mr. Obama will do is “talk plainly” about his views on immigration. Just like with the rest of his “views,” if Americans fully understood what he really wants for our country, he would ridden out of town on a rail.

Instead, today’s speech will be filled with his usual double-talk and disinformation.

"He thinks this debate is about accountability — accountability for securing the border, accountability for employers who are hiring illegal immigrants, and accountability for those who are in this country illegally."

It really is to laugh. ‘Accountability’ is the last thing that Mr. Obama should lecture us on.

Who is accountable for not securing the border? For allowing employers to hire illegal immigrants? For allowing foreigners to live in this country illegally? – Mr. Obama, and the rest of the Democrat party.

Indeed, since becoming President, Mr. Obama and his party have done everything within their power to open the border even wider. He has effectively announced that he will not punish employers for hiring illegals. And he has even gone so far as to sue the one state that is actually trying to enforce our nation’s immigration laws.

Unless Mr. Obama plans to announce his resignation and that of the Democrats in Congress, this speech will have nothing to do with “accountability.”

The venue for Thursday’s speech is symbolic to Obama. It was at American University in 2008 that he received the endorsement of Democratic icon Senator Edward Kennedy — which gave a huge boost to his presidential primary campaign.

Kennedy was a long-time advocate of immigration reform, and a dominant player when a comprehensive bill on the issue fell short of passing during president George W. Bush’s second term…

Would that be the same Edward Kennedy who solemnly promised us that opening the floodgates to ‘legal’ immigration with this ‘chain-migration’ bill of 1965, would not change this country’s demographics?

Prospects for passage of any kind of comprehensive immigration law this year look slim, given the limited time before November’s elections and the partisan political climate.

Some Obama critics have even questioned whether Obama believes there is a chance of action this year, and have speculated he wants to blame Republicans for failing to act on an issue vital to Hispanic voters — a key demographic

What an outrageous charge. Mr. Obama would never demagogue such an important issue. He would never cynically give people false hope, or turn one group of people against another — just to try to win votes.

Lest we forget, we have already tried the amnesty route, under Ronald Reagan, back in 1987. And, guess what? It didn’t work. Indeed, the 1987 amnesty only exacerbated the problem. The laws that were enacted in exchange for this ‘one time’ amnesty were never enforced. Indeed, under Mr. Obama, those laws are being ignored more than ever.

So why should anyone believe that granting another amnesty would work? Doesn’t Mr. Obama like to mock people who want to go back to ‘old failed policies’? What has failed more than the 1987 amnesty?

Unfortunately it is now perfectly clear that Mr. Obama is willing to say or (even worse) do anything that he thinks will garner him a few more votes. And our country and its laws be damned.

Your kitchen sink is overflowing into your living room. Before you mop up the mess and replace the furnishings, SHUT OFF THE WATER.

    • AcornsRNutz says:

True, but they aren’t even mopping anything up. Instead they call those of us who see your point “hydrophobic” whilst we drown in our own kitchen.

Remember that Farside cartoon, where the caption is, “What you say to your dog” and the next panel is “What he hears”? Well, picture that with obama up there talking to a bunch of mexicans:

“blah blah blah blah blah blah blah amnestyblah blah blah blah blah blah blah”

  3. proreason says:

I wish he was on 24×7 every day.

Eventually, everybody except the sub-morons would catch on.

  4. chainsaw says:

Here’s a part of choosen one’s speech. Why am I confused?

“He said the problem cannot be solved “only with fences and border patrols” but said the government should be held accountable for its responsibility to secure the border. Obama also said businesses should face consequences for knowingly employing illegal immigrants and that those who enter the country illegally should own up to their actions before they can begin the process of becoming citizens.”

    • proreason says:

You can understand what he says if you put it in the context of baseball:

“The White Sox are my favorite team, but I root for the Yankees, and I have to acknowledge that the Red Sox have won my heart, which is not to eliminate the other teams, all of which I love more than any other.”

      Sounds great, doesn’t it?

    • chainsaw says:

I like baseball. I now understand my confusion…..it’s the usage of words, just words. Thanks pr.

  5. Rusty Shackleford says:

His ability to “parse” words is getting more cumbersome by the minute. He’s now contradicting himself in the same sentence. Like Pro said, sooner or later everyone will catch on except the truly blind and deaf…and unbelievably stupid.

In a way, if this current regime weren’t so maddening, it’s kind of fun to watch it destroy itself from within. The GOP may have something here by remaining pretty much silent. For, taken in that context, if the GOP was up-in-arms about everything the dems did, there would most certainly be lots of blame against them for “impeding” them.

But when you see the democrats do all this wanton destruction, and the republicans are silent, at the end of the day, all that’s bad about it will rest firmly on the shoulders of….the democrat party. That is, in a rational, thinking, sane world.

Given the left’s water-boys in the form of the MSM, the argument, instead will go thus:

Charlie Rose to any loose left nut on the panel: “Well, given that things were going so badly, so unprecedented in our time, one would think that a republican or republicans would have stood up and said “STOP”.

Loose left nut: “Well, Charlie, clearly the responsibility for the failure and why things failed as badly as they did was exactly for that very reason. No one on the other side of the aisle said anything. They remained silent. Who knows why?”

And that’s the spin you’ll get when this abomination of a presidency tanks deeply. Not that it hasn’t already. It’s just going down around the bend now where you can only hear it but not see it anymore.

One other good thing about this presidency is now we really DO know who to vilify. Who really deserves to be put in prison. Sadly, this will never happen. They are all openly contemptuous of the Constitution and do not bear true faith and allegiance to it. They scorn it and usurp it and defile it. Kagan’s lack of an answer about unalienable rights in the Declaration of Independence spoke so very loudly to me as to what rights are all about in her mind. Her lack of an answer was a complete, unambiguous, easily understood message to the US and she said, “Look out, cuz here I come and I’m gonna rip this thing to shreds”.

But why they hate it so much is beyond me. They wish to destroy that very document which affords them the freedom to think and say whatever they want.

Again, the child who kills his parents and then cries because he’s an orphan.

  6. beautyofreason says:

I don’t believe that a word that comes out of our president is sincere. He’s obviously learned a lot from giving campaign speeches. Like he gives a flip about the deficit, or border control, or the other issues he pretends to harp about. He appeals to an American patriotism that he doesn’t share unless we’re giving the country away, pretends to take a middle ground, then digs in with the far left when it comes to his actual views.

  7. Chuckk says:

“Who is accountable for not securing the border? For allowing employers to hire illegal immigrants? For allowing foreigners to live in this country illegally? – Mr. Obama, and the rest of the Democrat party. ”

Actually, both parties have dismal records on these issues.

  8. proreason says:

This gay website openly states that Obamy is queer.

And now they are claiming that Kathleen Parker and Maureen Dowd are claiming the same in their own way.

Parker’s piece today makes the point just how feminine the kinglette is:

I’ve argued this many times, but it’s good to see that even amoral idiots like Parker are beginning to openly state the obvious.

“…he may be suffering a rhetorical-testosterone deficit when it comes to dealing with crises

… his approach is feminine in a normative sense. … he’s not exactly causing anxiety in Alpha-maledom

….Obama may prove to be our first male president who pays a political price for acting too much like a woman.”

  9. wtd says:

Notice the image does not present an American flag near the President of the USA. The blue curtain appears to have two eagles visible. Though the eagle is the American symbolic bird, the Mexican flag dons an eagle . . .the American flag does not.

  10. Drewmann says:

This entire situation is driving me insane. Allow me to summarize. Mexico is exporting poor people and getting billions of US dollars in exchange. There’s a sweet deal if ever I saw one. So scratch any realistic hope of anyone on that side of the border doing anything helpful. The Democrats periodically push through amnesty legislation and magically create more voters for the party’s base. Yeah, they’ll do something about it. The Republicans or at least a lot of them like the influx of cheap labor and the help it provides to the bottom lines of more businesses than I care to think about. Any help there? maybe but I’m not seeing it yet.
The scariest thing is if we actually seal the border and I refuse to believe that we can’t get at least close. Mexico will be convulsed by revolution inside of a year. The safety valve of being able to ship the poor and malcontented up here to work and send checks home is the only thing propping up the incompetent corruptocrats that have been running things since they kicked out the French. Truth is I might not have that much of a problem with that, God knows these jackasses have needed to be lined up on the nearest wall for a long, long time. The problem is if they hold a revolution down there the people throwing the party aren’t going to be waving Gladstone Flags and marching in the streets with pictures of Washington and Adams. Nope, bet your ass it’ll be Che Guevara, Castro and “Uncle Joe Stalin”.
So the sorry mess will continue more or less as is as far as the eye can see. Why not? after all the only losers are the American people and those poor saps who stood in line and came in legally. Anybody care about them?

  11. Reality Bytes says:

You’re gonna love this! You know how Obama says he’ll hold employers responsible for hiring illegals? Guess what, my new HR guy just told me his job was to verify employees’ I-9 “employment eligibility” forms – making sure that their social, gender, etc match that with the social security office.

Is this a great country or what?!

    • proreason says:

The SS number the Moron is currently using was issued in Conneticut.

But it’s not a big deal.

He has had lots of other Social Security numbers.
