I’m against releasing bad guys at Gitmo, but detaining someone without filing charges/presenting a case seems a stretch. And I’d warn those who insist the means justify the ends (keeping the bad guys from recidivism)—the same logic which declares these folks enemies of the “state” could easily in Obama-land be turned on “right-wing” extremist too dangerous to mix with everyone else. If the military has a case and evidence, convict the bastard—otherwise we’re setting a dangerous precedent (and I’ve heard the enemy combatant argument convoluted as it is—just remember we don’t have “friendlies” in power and they may use the same logic to deny your Liberty).
Gitmo serves a valuable purpose to be sure, but until the Congress of the United States declares war, we are not at war and these people, odious as they are, are endowed by the same Creator. As a national policy, we made an enormous error in deploying our troops without an Act of War being declared, so as a point of legality Gitmo establishes a standard that may come back to bite us in the future.
Don’t get me wrong, I hate the bastards at Gitmo and their sympathizers as much as the next guy—but two wrongs don’t make something right.

I cannot imagine what it is like for the families of the fallen and wounded soldier. This punk is going to do the same thing again.
I understand the cold, eggheaded, anti-patriotic thinking behind this move, and it frightens me. This guy really thinks that shutting down Gitmo was what the public wanted in the first place?
