Obama Tried To Prevent Zelaya ‘Coup’

Buried in this article from the Wall Street Journal:

Coup Rocks Honduras

June 29, 2009

The Obama administration and members of the Organization of American States had worked for weeks to try to avert any moves to overthrow President Zelaya, said senior U.S. officials. Washington’s ambassador to Honduras, Hugo Llorens, sought to facilitate a dialogue between the president’s office, the Honduran parliament and the military.

The efforts accelerated over the weekend, as Washington grew increasingly alarmed. "The players decided, in the end, not to listen to our message," said one U.S. official involved in the diplomacy. On Sunday, the U.S. embassy here tried repeatedly to contact the Honduran military directly, but was rebuffed. Washington called the removal of President Zelaya a coup and said it wouldn’t recognize any other leader.

The U.S. stand was unpopular with Honduran deputies. One congressman, Toribio Aguilera, got prolonged applause from his colleagues when he urged the U.S. ambassador to reconsider. Mr. Aguilera said the U.S. didn’t understand the danger that Mr. Zelaya and his friendships with Mr. Chavez and Cuba’s Fidel Castro posed.

Retired Honduran Gen. Daniel López Carballo justified the move against the president, telling CNN that if the military hadn’t acted, Mr. Chávez would eventually be running Honduras by proxy. It was a common view Sunday…

Mind you, this is the same Mr. Obama who refused to “meddle” in the internal affairs of Iran by coming out in support of the protesters.

But of course Mr. Zelaya – like the Iranian regime – is an ally in his larger cause.

Well, Obama and Hillary meddling have given us a heads-up of. Obama’s love of bad boys, could give him alot of power. I don’t know who Obama means by “meany” think the countries would do well under rule like Chavez or muslim, something he doesn’t “dismiss” entirely. Obama truly believes he should be running the entire world. He’s a meglamaniac. He has never found anyone to be better than him. It’s all about him. It has to be his way, or no way.

I was wondering about the legalities of the conflict, and the article appears to clarify for me:

“The Supreme Court had ruled the vote was illegal because it flouted the constitution’s own ban on such referendums within six months of elections. The military had refused to take its usual role of distributing ballots. But Mr. Zelaya fired the chief of the army last week and pledged to press ahead.”

So the WH is supporting a leader that was breaking the rules and calling for an illegal vote? And they claim they will refuse to recognize the new leader?

All hail Barry! Yes we can!

Yes, and it comes with such irony a week after the Iranian government faked the election. I suspect if there were not international outcry and lots of dead Iranians that Obama would not have mentioned Iran.

The change in Honduras scares the hell out of Obama because he knows if he keeps shoving crap down everybody’s throat he knows this could happen to him. Hopefully in 2010 the voters can make this man ineffective just like what happened to Clinton. I could really breath a sigh of relief if that happens. Then in 2012 just get rid of the man all together and think back on this piece of American history as a DREAM.

Why did he meddle here in a rather pointless country with no strategic interest to our own country (and for the bad guy, it seems)? It appears that Obama has no qualms protecting dictators and their governments…it took an open bloodbath and international outcry to get him to say a few harsh words to Iran.

Castro and Chavez have denounced the coup that TCO was also against; you’re judged by the company you keep.

How much more proof does anyone need to confirm that our actor president (and his gang) are truly ‘over the top’ looney! Dangerously so! Criminally so!

This o-blah-blah dude remains virtually silent while oppressed, freedom wanting, unarmed people are massacered; but actively and aggressively works behind the scenes to (using his words) ‘meddle’ (thought American presidents don’t ‘meddle’ in other countries affairs mr. o-blah-blah) against an action authorized and endorsed by that country’s Supreme Court against a constitutional violating, dictator wanna-be whose trying to rig their elections and laws.

This fraudulent Trojan Horse o-blah-blah is likely worried as he see’s this action because it’s showing him that it could happen. He .. violated campaign regulations and law. He .. has trampled our Constitution and shredded the sanctity of our laws. He .. with emmanuel and ACORN manipulating the census and routinely contaminating the vote has destroyed a pillar of our Country. He .. is trying to turn our Country into a banana republic and implanting himself as “King” – “Supreme Leader” (his henchman couldn’t wait to introduce a bill to erase presidential term limits).

What’s happened in Iran .. what’s unfolding in Honduras .. I think is a concise and accurate picture of some of the things that we Americans may very well be experiencing in the days ahead of us.

God Bless America! God Bless us!

It’s clear (and by his own admission) o-blah-blah’s answer to everything is government! It’s clear that he’s a power hungry thug! It’s clear that he seems to think he’s got the answer to everything (funny for a guy that couldn’t hardly ever vote other than ‘present’)! It’s clear that he’s perfectly comfortable with dictators and thugs; but has an idled disdain for freedom loving people! It’s clear that his priorities are very, very skewed and sickenly so!

“The cost of freedom is eternal diligence!”

“Evil men rule when good men do nothing!”

Recently, I read the article in American Thinker about how Obama is basically an African Colonial in his understanding of politics.

Here’s the link. I provided one some days ago as did a few others who agreed it’s a great article.

But basically, it states that regardless of how the US governmental system is framed, Blammo either ignores it, or his understanding of it is so incorrect, the end result is behavior patterned after those African Colonials who try to play both ends against the middle.

It’s a great read; Well put together and insightful and provides the best understanding to-date of how this president thinks and operates.

And yes, everything you said is correct.

    Elisabeth Malkin’s take on it:

Honduran President Is Ousted in Coup

MEXICO CITY — President Manuel Zelaya of Honduras was ousted by the army on Sunday, capping months of tensions over his efforts to lift presidential term limits.

In the first military coup in Central America since the end of the cold war, soldiers stormed the presidential palace in the capital, Tegucigalpa, early in the morning, disarming the presidential guard, waking Mr. Zelaya and putting him on a plane to Costa Rica.

Barry the Omnipotent is just taking notes for the future.

Coming to a country near you, martial law, then he won’t have to bother with that quarrelsome old constitution thingie anymore.

It’s hard to explain the actions of the Boy King other than to admit he favors dictators, particularly Marxist ones.

But why should we be surprised about that?

I gotta tell ya all this is just making my head numb. Awhile back we were discussing Cloward/Piven and it seems like the O Hole was a devout student of these two. The Dems and the O Hole are just piling on and piling on. This is just another straw and hopefully the one that broke the camels back will come along soon. For me it happened the first Tuesday in November.

  12. HCCanada says:

It’s not a “military” coup in Honduras. Manuel Zelaya was lawfully removed as discharged by the operation of the Constitution itself for treason, for usurpation of the functions of another branch of government, for attempting to forcibly change the form of government, and for contempt of the Supreme Court when he was ordered to stop.

Mr. Zelaya did not like the Constitution he swore to uphold. He tried to change it to give himself dictatorial powers. Supporters of Zelaya are a naive MINORITY attempting to overthrow the true democratic rule of the Constitutional MAJORITY of Honduras, who approve the order of the Supreme Court to remove Zelaya.

Honduras has a real, functioning, Constitutional democracy which is a threat to arbitrary rule of people like Obama, Stephen Harper and others who would like to eliminate sovereign constitutions and replace them with a communistic continental parliament, linking up UNASUR (South American Union), North American Union (Canada-US-Mexico) with Central America via CAFTA.

The defamatory attacks on Honduras by the G8, the UN, the OAS, the world press and media (controlled and owned by the same elite pushing for continental union, hemispheric union, and a world government) are all intended to crush Honduras and destroy its true and lawful Constitutional democracy.
