Obama Tries To Buy Credit For Arab Spring

From a wildly approving Associated Press:

Obama’s Mideast speech offers punishment, praise

By Ben Feller, AP White House Correspondent
May 19, 2011

WASHINGTON – In his first comprehensive response to revolts across the Arab world, President Barack Obama is doling out punishment and praise, targeting Syrian President Bashar Assad for attacking his people but also promising fresh U.S. aid to nations that support democracy. Obama is also trying to erase any doubt that the U.S. supports the call for change.

In other words, Mr. Obama is still trying to claim credit for the ‘Arab Spring.’ And he is willing to buy with billions of US taxpayer dollars.

Obama was expected to use his Middle East speech Thursday to sharply defend new sanctions on Assad as the U.S. government toughens its message for the repressive leader: Embrace democracy or get out

Remember, this is the same Barack Obama who used to lecture us on how we shouldn’t meddle in the internal affairs other nations.

In a primary thrust of his address, Obama also was announcing aid for Egypt and Tunisia, the two nations seen as models while protests for freedoms elsewhere have been crushed.

Collectively, Obama’s economic proposals will account for much of what’s new in a speech that, by design, is intended to look back and let him put his imprint on the massive change across the Middle East and North Africa over the last six months.

Yep. This is all about Mr. Obama trying to establish his legacy in world history. With our money.

The core of what Obama will argue is that the United States must help nations modernize their economies and give job opportunities to their young people so that democracy can take hold and thrive — the kind of regional stability that is deeply in the political interests of his government.

How about we modernize our economy first? Let’s create job opportunities for the people of Middle-America before we worry about the Middle-East.

Besides, when has pouring billions of dollars into third world nations ever modernized their economies? It usually ends in somebody’s Swiss bank account. Have we already forgotten all the news reports about Hosni Mubarak’s vast riches?

The president plans to forgive roughly $1 billion in debt owed by Egypt to free up money for job-creation efforts there

Because the Muslim Brotherhood needs our support. And never mind that we already give Egypt more foreign aid than any other country, apart from Israel. How come that hasn’t created any jobs? In any case, didn’t the trillion dollars that Mr. Obamas squandered on his stimulus prove once and for all that you can’t create jobs this way?

Moreover, if Egypt needs money for job creation, why doesn’t it get it from their rich neighbors who are currently charging $100 a barrel for oil. We are broke.

Why do we have to borrow money from the Chinese to give it to them? At the very least they could borrow the money directly from the Chinese and cut out the middle man.

Obama also was expected to recalibrate the U.S. position on the flailing Israeli-Palestinian peace process. He will warn both sides that they face greater risks by not coming together on a peace deal than by going their own ways…

Yes, that is so new. We have never heard that argument before. This will surely convince the Palestinians and the rest of the locals to accept Israel once and for all.

Overall, Obama will try to convince American audiences that the fate of countries in the region is worth the money and attention of the United States even during weak economic times at home.

And yet he castigated President Bush at every turn, when Bush talked about how vital the Middle East is to our country’s interests and when he tried to promote Democracy in the region. Mr. Obama said it was a distraction.

Moreover, whenever Mr. Obama talks about our dependency on foreign oil, he always stresses how much the nations of the Middle East don’t like us. So why are we giving them money? Why are we trying to help our enemies?

To his global audience, Obama wants to leave no doubt that the U.S. stands behind those seeking greater human rights even as it has had to defend its responses to crises

Again, he is trying to buy a place in history with our money. (This really is the most transparent administration in American history.)

Obama’s speech was expected to be roughly split into thirds: a review of the political changes across the region for better and worse, country by country; the economic aid package; and the push for better security in the region, which will include the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

It will all be presented in the context of a future with al-Qaida terrorist Osama bin Laden dead and gone.

So, in the end it’s just an excuse for one more victory lap, one more ‘ball spike’ — this time on the world stage.

The White House on Wednesday announced the sanctions on Assad and six senior Syrian officials for human rights abuses over their crackdown on anti-government protests…

Obama, in an executive order, said the Syrian government leaders were being held to account for "attacks on protesters, arrests and harassment of protesters and political activists, and repression of democratic change." …

Wait a minute? Isn’t this the same Mr. Assad that Hillary Clinton calls a "reformer" just a few weeks ago? Has this White House ever bet on the right horse?

The sanctions will freeze any assets Assad and the six Syrian government officials have in U.S. jurisdiction and make it illegal for Americans to do business with them

How many sanctions has Obama now imposed in the Middle East and around the world? And how come we never hear of how these sanctions are killing millions of innocent children, like we constantly heard about Mr. Bush’s sanctions on Saddam Hussein?

Oh, that’s right. Sanctions only hurt the wrong people when Republicans impose them.

That will be his legacy. Everything he touches has the stench of death about it.

This speech has been particularly cringe-worthy and embarassing for the country. His perspective is so out of step with reality that it’s coming off as the typical opaque narcissistic opportunism.

But there’s nobody who can match Spike on foreign matters.

    From the Jerusalem Post:

Right wing MKs: Obama is the new Arafat

Knesset members on the Right expressed outrage on Thursday night at US President Barack Obama’s call for the creation of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps in an exchange of territory for security.

They called upon Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to reject Obama’s plan when he meets with him on Friday in Washington.

“Barack Hussein Obama adopted the staged plan for Israel’s destruction of Yasser Arafat, and he is trying to force it on our prime minister,” said Likud MK Danny Danon. “All that was new in the speech was that he called for Israel to return to 1967 borders without solving the crisis. Netanyahu has only one option: To tell Obama forget about it.”

National Union MK Michael Ben-Ari also slammed Obama’s speech, calling it “a landmine with pretty wrapping.”

Environment Minister Gilad Erdan, who as a minister close to Netanyahu must be more diplomatic, complained on Channel 2 that according to Obama’s approach, the Palestinians would receive their demands on borders before negotiations begin.

“Once they have everything from the start, they have no reason to make any concessions,” Erdan said.

Obama Hands Over Jerusalem To Hamas
Posted by Jim Hoft on Thursday, May 19, 2011

      Let’s be clear.

Obama today proposed giving half of Jerusalem, the Wailing Wall, The Temple Mount, Old Jerusalem, The holiest Christian Church in the world, The Church of the Holy Sepulchre to Hamas-Fatah terrorist alliance.

The Hamas charter calls for the destruction of Israel.
Obama killed Osama… He killed the US economy… Now he wants to kill Israel.
      Worst. President. Ever.

    Obama; The ultimate Judas-goat.

I think his Nobel Peace Prize has gone to his head. He’s actually bought into his own myth. The chap’s delusional beyond belief, but ignore him at your own peril, for as Pro says, he’s the most dangerous man to trod the earth in the last 100 years.

    • Right of the People says:

He is a legend in his own mind.

Notice how starting with Jimmah then on to Slick Willy and now the Bamster that every liberal who manages to sleeze his way into the White House decides to “fix” the Arab/Israel problem. Usually their solution always comes back to Israel giving up something, usually the Gaza Strip. Just like the libtards version of compromise, you give me what I want.

I think Spike is going for his second Nobel Peace Prize. Gots to pad that legacy, yo!

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

The whole thing really has run off the rails long ago. Demonizing the Israelis is the easy path and like all socialists, they tend to think that the Israelis are the aggressors in all this. And, it’s also very odd that there is a strong 30+% of American Jews who feel exactly the same way. I worked with an Israeli in the early 90’s and she was brilliant, as well as steadfast in her defense of her homeland. She had nothing but contempt for Clinton and the Palestinians.

Jimmah did his damage, Clinton kind of fiddled about ignorantly…and now Hambone thinks it’s all about him. Yet, one must remember the show. He’s in show business and wants to get back to the links ASAP…so any and all things he says are….just words. His actions, meanwhile, still beyond scrutiny by the MBM, will never be exposed in anything but a conservative blog and, to a lesser extent, on FOX. Meanwhile, Bill O’Reilly, anti-Semite that he is, will spin it on his “no spin zone” by making the Israelis look bad again.

But, the Israelis kicked ass in 1973 and they may have to do it again; This time without any support from the USA. At such time, Hambone will stipulate that “we shouldn’t meddle in the affairs of other nations” while today and yesterday, he’s telling Mubarak, Kaddafi and now Mubarak’s replacement to step down.

I agree with that theory that Hambone lives in a fantasy in his own head. If he finds discomfort with something, he just ignores it and therefore, it doesn’t exist. He has no ear to listen to the people he was elected to lead and is more worried about what’s for supper and playing the back nine than he is about real work. On a whim, he calls his chief-of-staff and tells them to ready the 747 cuz he wants to go wherever. I’m pretty sure that there are meetings with congressional members who, when he really doesn’t want to see them, schedules an appointment, then hops aboard the big, shiny jet and hides somewhere else in the world. Then, he conveniently has his flunkies “forget” to re-schedule the appointment.

Note, for photo ops and signing things, he’s ready, available and the only decision he has to make is how much gray he wants in his hair that day. He’s so fake, he gives plastic a bad name. He’s the guy who, in the words of Oscar Wilde, “knows the price of everything but the value of nothing”.

You cannot achieve world peace through dictatorship.

    • chainsaw says:

Overhaul? How about eliminate? You cannot achieve world peace as long as there is man. There is no such a thing as “world peace”

  9. Phil Byler says:

Putting to the side Obama’s self-adulation, Obama appears to have embraced the Bush democracy agenda, which is late for the Iranian protesters who in 2009 stood for a moment against a radical Islamist regime but which now at least can define going forward what America stands for.

The awful problem is that Obama coupled embrace of the democracy agenda with calling for Israel to return unilaterally to the indefensible 1967 borders. Obama’s throwing Israel under the bus was both shameful and idiotic.

  10. Not so fast says:

Just think, If Obama wasn’t running for President of the United States in 2012 he and Osama Bin Laden could have embraced each other and kissed on the mouth for this speech. Caliphate coming to North Africa, Middle East to Indonesia! The Dream lives on!

  11. canary says:

Gil, Obama has given the signs he’s on Palestine’s side when he played hookie as a Senator and directed military to fly him via helicopter so he could visit the poor people who had lost their land

I was stunned by John McCain’s interview on Fox Hannity. He was so soft on this issue. Kept chuckling and laughing, the ole liners that Israel and Palestine to settle this with talks, b.s. He was incoherent, and gave 2 sided, both way answers.

Sarah Palin pretty well told Fox Greta the media shouldn’t shy away from the big questions Obama wasn’t asked during 1st election; instead of the media ripping the GOP over petty things.

Why the heck as the media not reminded viewers of Obama and his Rev Wright Trinity Church
calling on God to dam the Jews.

One thing about Sarah Palin, she can talk well, without the appearance she is reading a teleprompter or trying to choose her words very carefully & methodically.

In my neck of the woods Christians are buying Israel flags & pro-Israel t-shirts.

    • Gil says:

      Thoughtful comments, canary, thanks.

I agree he tipped his hat early, but the American people perhaps did not notice it. I think Obama and the MSM believe the people are very gullible and stupid. They won’t remind them (concerning Rev Wright, etc) because they believe that means the people won’t remember. It is more likely the people trusted the MSM in the past to vet the candidate for them and be watchdogs instead of lapdogs – But if they paid attention at all since he was elected, this time around they won’t be so trusting. The real concern is fraud, of course. So many multiple votes, dead people voting and illegal aliens, along with ‘districting.’

I believe the next President will be Sarah Palin. In spite of the media hatefest, she is the candidate of the tea party.. if America can get over being prejudiced against a woman. Even in the Old Testament, there were times women were called to lead when there were no others who could come up to standard. There are no other serious tea party candidates which are men, as far as I can see. Newt showed his colors early, but no one is seeing Sarah Palin cowtow to the left. Trump gave a short performance of playing bulldog then left the field. Only Sarah has been consistent and firm. This should allow her to be a viable alternative to those who are sick of the game playing and wish a return to the values America has always stood for. She does that.. what else do they want? Do they expect perfection? She is the embodiment of what they want, only in a package (ie female) they dislike. I trust they will grow brains and think for themselves as the founders hoped and prayed they would do before election day.

JP: PM slams Obama call for ‘Palestine’ based on ’67 lines

By Hilary Leila Krieger & Herb Keinon

“Those borders are not defensible,” PM rages as he flies off to Washington;…

…The Bush commitments, said Netanyahu, “deal with Israel not being asked to withdraw to the 1967 lines, which are not defensible, and which place large population centers in Judea and Samaria outside of these borders.”

Netanyahu’s statement also said that the Bush letter made clear that Palestinian refugees would be absorbed in a future Palestinian state, something that was not explicitly mentioned in Obama’s speech.

“Without a solution to the refugee issue by settling them outside of Israel, no territorial concessions will end the conflict,” the statement read.

Netanyahu also said that he will make clear in his meeting with Obama that Israel will need to remain on the Jordan River, and that he was disappointed by Fatah’s reconciliation with Hamas.

Hamas spokesman Ismail Radwan told Agence France Press that his movement does not believe in US policies because they are biased in favor of Israel and deny Palestinian rights.

I’d suggest Israel let herds of Pigs roam, fertilizing, and going weee weee weeee all over the land Obama and Palestine wants to steal from Israel. Would a muslim kneel in areas they knew pigs relieved themselves on. Especially as the Palestinians keep destroying Israel’s holy graves.
