Black Obama Voters Fear White Racism

From the Dallas Morning News:

Blacks worry about polls vs. reality in Obama campaign

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The prospect that Barack Obama is primed to be the nation’s first black president has black voters giddy.

But the better the news gets for Mr. Obama, with bigger leads in polls the closer Election Day draws, the more they fear it’s too good to be true. It’s especially so in the South, where a history of oppression, voter suppression and near electoral victories make blacks more skeptical than most.

“Every day I watch the polls and get excited because I know Barack Obama is going to win the whole thing,” said Corgins Banner, a 32-year-old Charlotte man who works for a bank. “Then it hits me. Something is going to happen. They are going to find a way to stop him.”

The long-running campaign has taken its emotional toll on some blacks who are jubilant one moment and fearful the next, and the mixed feelings were evident in interviews conducted last week.

Many simply don’t believe white voters are telling pollsters the truth about whom they’ll back, though recent elections involving high-profile black candidates, including Mr. Obama’s own primaries this year, suggest polls are fairly accurate. Some voters also suspect something more sinister – malfeasance in the counting of votes come Election Day.

“Racism is still alive and well in this country,” said Washington-based Democratic consultant Ray Strother, who contends that polls don’t reflect some white voters’ reluctance to back a black candidate. “There will be people who go into the voting booth intending to vote for Obama but won’t be able to do it.”

The uneasiness hasn’t shaken black voters’ resolve. Their backing was crucial to him winning several early primaries, and a strong black turnout is expected to boost Mr. Obama in battleground states, including North Carolina.

“He’s so close, and I want to believe he’s going to do it,” said Amber Hinton, a 20-year-old college student from Charlotte. “But it’s hard for me to believe that it’s going to happen. I don’t think America is going to let him win.”

Take control, Kirk says

Former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk, who toured the Tar Heel State this weekend as an Obama surrogate, said the best way to guard against unexpected defeat is to take control of the process.

“If you’re scared, vote,” Mr. Kirk said. “You have to say, ‘We’re not going to let anybody take this from us.’ Getting rid of that feeling is manifested by voting.”

But others can’t help but be nervous. Some are worn out from being on bended knee.

“I just hope and pray that he makes it,” said LaShawn Moore, a 25-year-old grocery store cashier from Harrisburg, N.C. “I never thought I would see this in my lifetime. Sometimes I feel like it’s not really over. I think about, if he loses, what does that say about where we are as a country?”

The most common fear among many black voters is that white independents and Democrats will abandon Mr. Obama on Election Day and hand John McCain the presidency.

History shows the concern is not invalid.

In 1982, Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley had a double-digit lead in the polls heading into his Election Day battle against Republican George Deukmejian.

That night, many news organizations declared Mr. Bradley the winner, based on exit polls, in which voters who have just cast their ballots tell pollsters how they voted. But he lost narrowly, prompting some to suggest white voters didn’t want to tell another person they voted against a black candidate – thus giving birth to the term the “Bradley effect.” …

“You know what they did to Tom Bradley,” said Freeman Boswell, a 44-year-old man between jobs in Charlotte. “I hope they don’t do it again to a brother.”

Elicia Jackson, a Charlotte animal control officer, said chasing wild dogs is less nerve-racking than watching the twists and turns of the campaign.

She pointed out that during the primary, white rural and blue-collar workers in states like Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio and Texas never came around to Mr. Obama’s side. In West Virginia, when the media had all but declared that Mr. Obama had secured the nomination, the Illinois senator lost by 41 percentage points.

“Those polls didn’t have him losing by that much,” she said. “I hope he wins, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he loses because of those voters.”

Lyrics replace specials

While such fears gnaw at many, not all African-Americans are worried about the election. Many are convinced that Mr. Obama will win big.

In Dallas, many blacks see the Obama candidacy as too strong a grass-roots movement to be derailed.

Last week, Obama supporters met at the Brooklyn Jazz Café. A sign that usually bore the drink specials carried lines from a Gil Scott-Heron song called “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.”

James Perry, a middle-aged Garland man, said the election represented something divine. How else to explain a largely unknown figure beating a former first lady and surviving episodes such as the divisive comments of his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright?

“God has put his hands on him,” Mr. Perry said. “Obama’s going to win.”

Thank Allah these people are voting for Mr. Obama based on the content of his character rather than the color of his skin.

The thing about it is Obama is only 1/16 black.
    But he is 100% communist.
The black folks need to do some research on just how many blacks were in the USSR.
Lock and load Boys and Girls, It is about to get very interesting.

  2. curvyred says:

It is about to get very interesting, look at crime stats, and I for one as a typical white American am very afraid, say what you will.

Call me cynical but did any of those voters even mention once why they want him other than the obvious?

  3. Jed_Black says:

The irony is that if Obama has his way he will be the first and last black POTUS. His social policies will no doubt result in the ruin and eventual extinction of the black race in America.

  4. 1sttofight says:

No need to be afraid, just arm your self with a 12 ga and plenty of OO ammo and dont be afraid to use it.

You will be fine and nonmolested.

  5. rocketman says:

Let me get this straight…..13 or 14% of the population wants to “rule” this country??/ I don’t thank so…I’m locked and loaded. No doubt, if Obambi doesn’t win we will see riots in the streets… so be it, I’m locked and loaded!!

  6. ptat says:

Yes, Obama is a man of such stellar character—he would never lie!

  7. logicrat says:

If white racism were as prevalent as blacks and white liberals claim, Barack Obama would never have won the primary in a state like Iowa, much less be on the verge of winning the presidency in a country that is only 12% black. The glaring truth is, rather than a hindrance, race has only aided Obama. It’s what everyone knows, but many are unwilling to admit—if Barack Obama was white he would not be the democratic nominee.

  8. 1sttofight says:

Lets talk about judgement for just a moment.

    McCain picked Sarah Palin.

    Obama picked Michelle ….

  9. Sharps Rifle says:

Give me a freakin’ break! I’ve gotten more crap from the Obamatrons than I have from any white folks! If that POS can execute his vote fraud assisted coup, that 11.75 percent of the population will be 100 percent insufferable! And I doubt we’ll hear Word One from the UN demanding “majority rule”!

  10. curvyred says:

You are 100% correct he would have been a had-ran, insted of the Democratic nominee.

  11. wardmama4 says:

See what I don’t get (rhetorical here, I get it all too well) is why Obama is seen as the ‘black’ candidate. He did not come from a black slave decendant parent, he is not 100% or even possibly 50% black, his black parent isn’t even American, and lastly he did not grow up for even a single solitary second in the ‘traditional’ black community. . .Therefore in no way what-so-ever is he a ‘black’ candidate other than the (D) behind his name.

And tell me – in what way is this Unifying for America – articles like this to me speak to divisiveness, hate and anger.

But of course we all know – only white people are bigots, racists and oppressors.

Hmmm, I wonder why Africa is the biggest problem with slavery in the World today?

For Mr Perry, I do not think it is God that has his hand on him. ( “I am confident we can create a Kingdom right here on Earth.” Barack Obama, October 8, 2007 Greenville S.C.)
If he is elected, if you think G. Bush had his hands full, there is going to be some big time trouble in the world. A bunch of trouble makers are going to reason, now is the time to make our move.

  13. DEZ says:

“now is the time to make our move.”

I fear that statement is as true within our borders as much as out.

  14. Lipstick on a PIAPS says:

Let’s just do it this way. All of you blacks vote for Obama cuz he looks kinda black. All of you whites vote for McCain cuz he looks kinda white. Everybody happy, Racism solved! Jack Murtha go get the party favors and start the celebration! ;-)

  15. hikerbama says:

97% of blacks are voting for Obama “just because.” Now they are going to cry because some whites are not going to vote for him? Obviously this is racism…..

  16. 64dodger says:

White racism is the least of their problems should Obama win. The millions of lost jobs mostly for blacks when the wealth redistribution begins along with the tax on the rich will make white racism a non issue.

  17. Liberals Demise says:

Blacks are giddy with the thought of a blackman as Prez……..if he doesn’t win its because racism on the whites part? Ah, just who is pictured with his HIGHNESS at the top of this page? Why its none other than Brotha Al Sharpton, the race baiter and fanner of hatred flames. Anyone see any pics of Sara or John with Militias or Grand Wizards of the KKK ? Maybe even a picture of either of them addressing a White Nazi Party crowd? Any pics of them with David Duke? It seems to me that the Black community is looking for a reason to riot no matter what! If the Annointed one wins……burn up the cities. If he loses (God willing)…….burn up the cities. Barack was the one who brought up the fact that he is black back in the primarys. I mean….who’d of guessed that one! Get ready my right side of the road friends cause hell is a coming and the Annointed One authorized its coming!!

  18. Lipstick on a PIAPS says:

I thought Bill Clinton was the FIRST Black President! The best Barack could do is be the SECOND Black President, even though he is only half black.I’m so CONFUSED!?!?

  19. Liberals Demise says:

As I read this in the tea leaves (PIAPS), Slick Willy and Bro Barry are going to have a fistfight to see who will be the 1st “HNIC”!
    May the best whitey win!!

  20. RichieRich says:

How is it if a white person DOESN’T vote for Barack, they’re a RACIST, but the fact that 90% of the Blacks are voting FOR Barack ISN’T considered racist.
Why is it that if Barack loses it’s because it was stolen from him.
The liberal dems are laying the groundwork for it to be OK to riot in the streets if the Anoited One loses.
Look at what the blacks do when their sports teams win or lose. They burn the friggin town down. Get ready folks.

  21. Sandypebbles says:

It would be a different situation if Obama really had a better way to run this country. But your Boy thinks he has the solution lol. He is gonna tax us more cut our military, give more hand outs with the profits from taxing more, and it makes a person wonder the guy listened to a preacher for 20 yrs talking hate for America, Think that may come out in his actions if he were our president?????????

  22. Sandypebbles says:

Oh yea I wish I had a gun cause no matter what happens it’s gonna end up some punk either head so big cause a black man won and think they can do anything agaisnt another or mad at the white man cause they figure it’s all our fault !!! Oh well guess I’ll get my Tazar out……
