Obama Wants $100B For Global Poverty

Buried in this handwringing report from the Associated Press:

Geithner says crisis threatens work on poverty

By Harry Dunphy, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON – The global economic crisis threatens to reverse gains in fighting poverty, so banks that provide aid to poor nations must embrace changes in their operations, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said Sunday.

Those development banks are at the forefront of efforts to eradicate poverty and promote sustainable growth, he said the World Bank’s policy-setting board.

"We cannot afford to lose time or lose ground," Geithner said.

At the same time, he said it was important for the banks to conduct their aid business in the open.

They must face reviews to ensure they have enough money and are promoting fundamental changes, Geithner said. He added that their resources must be used to "achieve the maximum impact on long-term development objectives, including addressing the needs of the poorest." …

Officials agreed on an immediate increase of $250 billion for IMF lending. A further $250 billion would be added later to an "expanded and more flexible" line of credit.

President Barack Obama is seeking congressional approval for up to $100 billion for that effort, matching commitments for the same amount made by Japan and the European Union…

Where is Code Pink and the rest of the paid protesters of the left?

They don’t mind that hundreds of billions of taxpayers dollars are being sent out of the country to tin pot dictator thugs all around the world – in the name of eradicating global poverty?

Just kidding. Of course they don’t.

Anything that weakens our country and its citizenry is all right with them.

The States can no longer afford this liberal socialism.
Obama is gonna put us all in the poorhouse.

    • proreason says:

Hate to burst your bubble, dez, but this is a key element of the hopenchange plan.

It’s not the poorhouse he wants the U.S. in, it’s the outhouse.

$100B is the tip of this iceberg.

    • Confucius says:

During his campaign, Obama pledged $1 trillion to “fight the global war on poverty.”

  2. Squito says:

Cheer up, guys! Think of how well the War on Poverty worked in our own country! (snort)

  3. Liberals Demise says:

Man…..the “BOOBS” that be are printing money we can’t afford for Global Poverty that 99.9 % of Americans don’t give a crap about!! Tax evader Geithner needs to get a grip……..$100 Billion we don’t have!! We can damn sure wait before we spend that amount of money on the Global market.
“We can’t afford to lose time or lose ground” Geithner said.

I know you’ve heard this before Tim, “YES WE CAN!!!!”

  4. heykev says:

BHO has done more to bankrupt this country in his first 100 days than all other presidents combined. Now this!!! God help us all. We cannot afford to be giving away Billions to others. We need to gut the budget and eliminate whole departments, lower taxes if we want to have any hope of making this a “shining city on a hill” once again.

  5. pinandpuller says:

We have a lot of poor people here in America. Why don’t we send a bunch of them overseas to “volunteer” for other country’s poor? Kind of like “Trading Places”.

  6. DGA says:

And when these a**holes AKA as congress finally send us into the poorhouse permanently, who in the world will help us?? Answer, you all know, nobody. It’s always been hard for me to imagine that great countries can fail, fall like the Romans did, and just as hard to imagine something like that would happen in our lifetimes, but it can, and it is happening. Each day I wake up and wonder if it’s all been a horrific nightmare, but reality sets in and the crap goes on. And to think a majority of voters supposedly voted for this fraud. I may have to start commenting in other sites that allow foul lauguage, because I need to scream some out soon.

pepper spraying, beating, hospitalizing, and arresting protesters, (the liberal news lied about this) yet they allowed the muslim terrorists violent protests all across the country when Isreal finally stood up and struck the Hamas in Palestine. The police just cleared the way and let them do what they wanted.
Anyways, one good thing Obama does deserve credit for is his statement everyone can now afford a car and the government will back the warranty.

First GM (Government Made) auto. Most environmentally friendly car, less emissions than any auto built, recycling friendly, in the world. U.S. govt issued.

  8. MinnesotaRush says:

Honest and common sense has left the building.

This entire administration is like a bunch of kids playing office. They won’t be happy ’till it’s all gone.

These nitwits are disgusting and unbelievable!

  9. cjokry says:

Maybe China will commit $100 billion to poor nations. After all, that would only be about 3 months interest on the trillions we now owe them.

Don’t be scared. They may be our ideological enemies and possibly have the only military on earth that could seriously challenge our own. But I’m sure they’re not going to be unreasonable about it if we can’t pay them back in a timely fashion. So feel free to piss our tax dollars away on any and every stupid feel-good program and give away that comes to mind. That’s okay. We’re America. We’re rich. (Or at least, we used to be.)

  10. canary says:

Isn’t this an enormous amount of money for such few numbers, and more enormous amount in putting the horse before the cart. It makes no sense.

In Mexico, soldiers handed out 6 million surgical-style masks to deal with the deadly flu strain. Special laboratory tests to confirm how many died from it — 22 have been confirmed so far out of 103 suspected deaths — are taking time.

The World Bank said it would send Mexico $25 million in loans for immediate aid and $180 million in long-term assistance to address the outbreak, along with advice on how other nations have dealt with similar crises.

A potential pandemic virus is defined, among other things, as a novel strain that’s not easily treated. This new strain can be treated with Tamiflu and Relenza, but not two older flu drugs. Also, the WHO wants to know if it’s easily spread from one person to a second who then spreads it again — something U.S. officials suspect and are investigating.

    Screw Obama.

  12. 12 Gauge Rage says:

Instead of attending economics, Obama and his goons skipped class and snuck into the Marxism 101 class. How else do you explain such brain dead economic policies. You never lend money to a country that is too poor to pay it back and too corrupt to put the money to good use. The road to hell is definitely paved with good intentions but in our case it’s paved with our hard earned dollars for ungrateful nations to trample on.

    • JohnMG says:

Obama insists that his deficit-spending stimulus package loans will be repaid with corporate earnings, and taxes collected from a resurgent economy. But this money is just pissed down a rat hole.

Question: Why does Obama want the rest of the world to like a country he hates so much?

      Answer: He doesn’t!

    • proreason says:

“Obama insists that his deficit-spending stimulus package loans will be repaid with corporate earnings”

A chilling statement for anybody still investing in equities. What are you thinking?

  13. Odie44 says:

Since Bambi likes to put foreign nations first – what is to stop China from playing hardball , through their own foreign policy, with America – the country they have invested trillions in T Bills and Notes?

The more money we print and give to everyone under the sun, without a rate of return – directly effects China’s investment, including our $$$ rated and bond rated grade.

They could easily claim “funny business is going on” – and either call in the loans, prop up another pegged currency (already in talks) or just start their own inport/export embargo.

    • JohnMG says:

Or……..just pay off all our mortgages, fill up all of our fuel tanks, and give 95% of us a tax refund.

      What?….You mean…….? Awww, say it ain’t so. ;-{

Who is the U.S. Treasury Secretary to be shaping global social policy?
