The only way this could conceivably work out is if someone restores the hard work ethic our young people used to have. But I don't see that anymore. Instead of getting a summer job like we did at their age, they'd rather talk or text their friends with useless trivial matters or hangout at a 24 hour Wal-Mart doing nothing but acting stupid.

"the first one was. In fact,it was maybe the first affirmative action effort."

You can't fool me; in the publik school I attended, we watched The Grapes Of Wrath and the only people I recall were poor white folk. And the "Camp Rosevelt" pic has everyone looking very white
too.

I guess all of the "illegal immigrants" we have can figure out which end of a shovel to stick in a hole. The unemployed bankers can tell them how wide the hole needs to be. Barney Frank can tell them what to put in it.

I'm watching a show on National Geographic Explorer right now on marijuana. Maybe those are the "Green Jobs" they've been talking about.

If the wolves and coyotes keep killing sheep around here a lot of border collies are going to be out of work too. Where will it end?

Wonder if the new "CCC" will be an "affimative action" employer. They have to be. They will be government employees. We always get better results when we select employees based on race,
sex, religion, handicap or sexual preference. The infrastructure will never be completed.

Or they want to use this opportunity to try and swing the labor force back in that direction, to try and re-establish the glory days of union membership at like 70% of workers or whatever it used to be.

It makes me wonder why there's such a gung ho movement from the Dems to let the automakers fail. I'm not in favor of a bailout either, but most of those guys are union workers, so maybe:

CONSPIRACY MODE ON

The Dems want the automakers to fail so they can break the unions also and those guys earning 70K on an assembly line will be glad for a job at $10 an hour breaking rock on the Obama Memorial I-95.

CONSPIRACY MODE OFF

Then again maybe there's just nothing to worry about......

The plan is a 2-class society. Obamy and his elitist friends, secure forever from having to associate with the great unwashed.....and the rest of us shoveling manure and groveling for the crumbs at election time.

VDH has a great column where he says how horrified he was when he had to have a gallstone removed in Libya and found out that the janitor made the same salary as the doctor. That's where hopey chagey is headed.

I'm sure all of the lBiology & Chemistry PhD's at the Pharma R&D place I work at who just got laid will be thrilled to know there are jobs waiting for them building roads & bridges. What a relief!

Maybe Barney Frank & Chris Dodd can role up their sleeves, pick up a shovel, & help in the work. It would be a heluva alot more valuable than the BS their shovelling now.

I'm sure this is a large part of it. Just look at how hard they are pushing "card check."

As I have mentioned before, it is all about getting "foot soldiers" for the Democrat Party.

Of course that was also what the first WPA, NRA, CCC things were all about, too.

And if FDR had lived, he could have held onto power forever.

Oh I just got it. Either they're mentally stuck on some time in the past when America's labor force was primarily unskilled labor, and they think that this unemployment means there is a sea of lunch-pail carrying blue collar folks out there just waiting to get back on the job. Or they want to use this opportunity to try and swing the labor force back in that direction, to try and re-establish the glory days of union membership at like 70% of workers or whatever it used to be.

pdsand, excellent point. Much of the road work will be physically hard and demanding - too many are too soft to do this.

Along that same line Barbie, they keep saying 2.5 million jobs in this plan to rebuild roads and bridges. Where in the world do they think they're going to get 2.5 million people who will take those jobs? He's obviously talking about employing the unwashed masses, so they're not going to be driving caterpillars and operating cranes, or drawing up blueprints. Does anyone really think that 2.5 million people from this nation of whiners are going to want to take jobs swinging hammers and shovels?

p.s. our green friends in the gov't want to give money to the auto makers provided they make those little hybrid plug-in cars. I saw on tv one of the prototypes - it cost $40,000. The gov't needs to get out of telling the automakers what they can make and what they need to produce- it's a doomed road for sure... Unbelievable...

The way Bambi's infrastructure jobs sound, these are fairly complex and difficult jobs - just because a person is unemployed does not mean they have the skills needed to work these jobs. Bambi's going to need educated and skilled workers - He's going to have to spend just as much money on educational re-training as he is on the actual job creation. At least that's my opinion. And I heard once, and I think it's true, if it only took 100 billion dollars to create a viable, clean energy market (if that's the word to use), wouldn't the private market have done so by now? Bambi finds things so easy to say, doing it is going to not be the piece of cake he wants us to think it will be. Besides, government doesn't produce anything. It takes tax money and redistributes it, this is not going to create sustainable jobs in the long run - at least that's what basic econ principles say...
