Obama Wants UN To Study Syria’s Use Of WMD

From an unfazed Associated Press:

Obama wants more certainty on Syrian chemical arms

By STEVEN R. HURST | May 1, 2013

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama said he wants more information about chemical weapons use in the Syrian civil war before he decides on escalating U.S. military or diplomatic responses, despite earlier assertions that use of such weapons would be a "game-changer."

In other words, Obama wants to ‘change the game.’ He wants to move ‘the red line that cannot be crossed.’

With the U.S. disengaging from the unpopular war in Afghanistan and still smarting from the difficult conflict in Iraq, Obama has been reluctant to unleash American military power in the Syrian fighting, a civil war that has killed tens of thousands of people…

And yet he wasn’t reluctant to help Al Qaeda allied rebels take over Libya. He wasn’t reluctant to help the Muslim Brotherhood take over Egypt.

The president said at a Tuesday news conference that the conflict is a "blemish on the international community generally."

That’s pretty harsh language, from Obama. Assad must be shaking in his boots.

Obama said the evidence available does not yet merit the quick use of American military power. He has called for the United Nations to investigate…

And the media did not laugh out loud.

"What we now have is evidence that chemical weapons have been used inside of Syria, but we don’t know how they were used, when they were used, who used them. We don’t have a chain of custody that establishes what exactly happened. And when I am making decisions about America’s national security and the potential for taking additional action in response to chemical weapon use, I’ve got to make sure I’ve got the facts. That’s what the American people would expect.["]

When has Obama ever been held back by the lack of facts?

The president said, however, that if it is determined that the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad used chemical weapons "we would have to rethink the range of options that are available to us." …

Such as a stiff letter to the New York Times.

Meanwhile, according to other reports, it’s only a matter of time before Al Qaeda overruns Syria’s poison gas facilities, and they finally get their hands on real life weapons of mass destruction. Which, come to think of it, could be the plan.

Wouldn’t our present US drones flying over Syria, stationed on the Turkey border for near a year, be more trustworthy. This Spring more US troops were sent. After all, our drones bombs are dropped to kill just one or two terrorists.

Actually, perhaps we should be relieved our untrustworthy president who never knows what the heck is going on is better to trust the untrustworthy UN.

First mistake: getting the UN involved. Second mistake: getting involved in Syria. For all the ideas that democracy will take over look what happened elsewhere in the arab spring, we got a bunch of nutty hard core islamists taking over. I’ve been hearing that even no fly-zones are great because of the syrian air defense net. Why should we risk our pilots lives for a conflict that is going to drag on and fester. Iran will keep supplying weapons to keep us tied down and field test their new hardware. And both sides aren’t exactly nice, you have a dicator and a rag-tag group that has a few pro-western democracy people and a whole slew of nutty jihadi fighters. Asking the UN to “study” the matter is just asking for billions of dollars to be wasted and a report to come out saying there is nothing happening. Of course the writers will be countries like Iran, Russia, China, and all these others selling weapons or taking bribes as we know how pure the UN is when it come to not being a corrupted and bloated pustule.
