Obama Will Create 2.5M Jobs In Two Years

From the Los Angeles Times:

Obama economic plan aims for 2.5 million new jobs by 2011

By Christi Parsons
November 22, 2008

Reporting from Washington — President-elect Barack Obama signaled this morning that he would push for a bigger economic stimulus package than he previously discussed, pledging to create 2.5 million jobs in the effort to combat what he called a “crisis of historic proportions.”

Obama said he would offer a two-year stimulus proposal instead of the expected one-year one, calling it “a plan big enough to meet the challenges we face.”

“These aren’t just steps to pull ourselves out of this immediate crisis,” Obama said in his weekly radio address. “These are the long-term investments in our economic future that have been ignored for far too long.”

The president-elect said he had already directed his economic team to come up with a recovery plan that should result in 2.5 million more jobs by January 2011. The president-elect had not mentioned that number before.

“We have now lost 1.2 million jobs this year,” Obama said. “And if we don’t act swiftly and boldly, most experts now believe that we could lose millions of jobs next year.”

The plan would include jobs rebuilding roads and bridges, improving schools and building alternative-energy technologies. Details are to be worked out in the weeks to come.

As he crafts the proposal, Obama is also putting together an economic team he plans to introduce within the next few days.

Although the lineup has not been officially confirmed, the Tribune Washington bureau has reported that Timothy F. Geithner, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, is the likely candidate to serve as Treasury secretary and that New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is shaping up as the new secretary of Commerce.

Has any President every created any jobs except for those in the government — which are not the kind of jobs that help to spur the economy?

(Cf. the WPA. Which, come to think of it, this sounds very much like.)

Of course compared to lowering the seas, this should be a piece of cake.

If Obamy does manage to create 2.5M jobs, he will destroy many more in so doing. The government does not create jobs. All it does is take money from one person and give it to another.

And besides, isn’t 833,333 jobs a year far far below what job growth has been in the U.S. for decades, which occasional brief periods of decline?

If Obamy implements the policies he has consistenly supported, unemployment will be way over 10% (it may be there already), tax revenues will drop by up to 50%, and the world will enter a depression that rivals the 1930’s.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I was just about to say,

The only way can he pay that 2.5 million is by taking that money from productive taxpayers. It’s the same old crock that government spending can generate wealth. The results will be lower tax receipts and then he’ll call for higher taxes, which will get lower receipts, which will require higher taxes, and on and on until we’re all in need of Obama’s handouts. I believe he understand this perfectly.

  4. retire05 says:

Outside of interstate highways and a few other highways, what roads and bridges are paid for by the federal government? Seems to me if roads and bridges were paid for by the federal taxpayer, then the roads in Louisiana (which are deplorable) should be equal to the quality of roads in Texas (which are, for the most part, the best in the nation). Or is he thinking that the federal gas tax, which is alloted to pay for roads and bridges, should be increased for greater building? Yeah, that’s it. Raise the gas tax, just forget to mention that little detail.

I also understand that “The One” is going to invest heavily in wind farms and solar panels as the answer to our dependence on Saudi oil. Funny, T. Boone Pickens just cancelled all his wind farm plans due to the excessive cost of construction and the fact that Pickens couldn’t put the taxpayer on the hook for his projects. But “The One” can do it. Can you name one other nation that refuses to use it’s own resources for the betterment of it’s citizens?

Proreason is right. The government doesn’t create jobs, it just moves money. Your money. It’s called “busy work” like teachers giving kindergartners crayons and paper to keep them occupied and tell them to draw a turkey.

I guess since “The One” has already been equated with FDR, he thinks he IS FDR reincarnate. Only problem, historians have proved FDR extended the pain, not eliminate it.

“Outside of interstate highways and a few other highways, what roads and bridges are paid for by the federal government?”

Obama lives in the fantasy world of the New Deal of the 1930s. He intends to re-create what he imagines was the WPA.

The WPA was intended to uplift the poor and “minorities,” and of course further the communist/socialist agenda.

Ultimately, the WPA was a political machine for FDR.

And this is what BHO wants to re-create for himself.

  6. 1sttofight says:

I am confused. First the one was Kennedy, then Lincoln, now he is FDR. I wish he would settle on one dead president and stick with it.

  7. Professor_Repulso says:

retire05 made mention of the Federal gas tax. At current price levels for fuel, I am amazed that the powers that be have not substantially increased the tax. Talk about a window of opportunity. I recall a substantial number of those on the left sounding off that $4.00+ per gallon was a good thing.

  8. proreason says:

….Can you name one other nation that refuses to use it’s own resources for the betterment of it’s citizens?”

retire05: I catch your drift, but this question doesn’t build your case.

The biggest problem the world faces today is that Saudi Arabia (and other Middle East countries) have NOT used their resources to better the lives of its citizens. They have squandered the greatest gold mine of all time on ponies and palaces. The predictable result is what you see in the Middle East today, which can bring an end to the human race in short order.

One might then ask a theoretical question for the U.S.’s current situation…….why does Obamy’s noble tax policies destroy the lives of people making $150K (pick your own number) to $500K (pick your own number), but leave untouched the people with hundreds of millions and billions? Hypothetical answer – because those are the people who fund Obamy, and nothing would please them more than the permanent 2-tier society the noble tax policies will implement. Kind of like Saudi Arabia you know.

  9. proreason says:

“Professor_Repulso…I recall a substantial number of those on the left sounding off that $4.00+ per gallon was a good thing.”

I wouldn’t build my budget based on $1.75 gas if I were you. And I wouldn’t go buy a Hummer either.

Just a wild guess, but I gotta hunch the price of gas is going up around Jan 21, 2009. (but in the spirit of humility, I actually had predicted it would be going up already).

  10. Professor_Repulso says:

No Hummer in my future, proreason. I do find it a bit odd that a 5% – 6% decrease in demand would trigger a 65% decrease in price – regardless of the state of the economy. Interesting, very interesting.

  11. proreason says:

and Professor, I find is a bit odd that bad loans that might amount to 8 to 10% of the annual GNP (assuming the loan had 0 value, which never happens), could cause a drop of 52% in the S&P500 – particularly in light of the fact that GNP growth in second quarter was 3.1%. Interesting, very interesting.

It’s like you make $100K a year, you got a raise of $3.1K last year, but your brother in law tells you he can’t pay all of a $8K loan you made to him. So, you quit your job, sell your house for 50%, move to Mexico and begin selling Sombreros for a living.

As I’ve said in this forum before, something else is going on.

  12. BigOil says:

I’m still dumbfounded that 68 million people were inspired by this clown. Millions of Americans who are worried and can’t sleep, desks at work being cleared out overnight, students can’t go to college, roads and bridges crumbling…I never knew people considered images of soupline America so inspirational.

What I found most ridiculous is his statement that the American dream has survived for over two centruries due to the great sacrifices of the people. No sir. The American dream has endured because of hard work and risk taking – all in spite of empty suit liberal politicians forcing the hard working people to make unnecessary sacrifices.

BTW – B. Hussein can not even read a teleprompter very well. Maybe his Hollywood buddies can show him how to do it without moving his head and eyes so much.

  13. bill says:

Funny guy on Saturday Night live — Through Obamunism I assume?

Take away his teleprompter and all he seems able to do is speak Indonesian.

  14. Anonymoose says:

Hmmmmm…….maybe these new jobs will all be part of the Nuevo Deal “service” commitment all children and elderly are supposed to sign up for? Could be he’s just leaving out that they won’t pay anything…….

And yes, according to the MSM Obama is the Ghost of FDR, the Spirit of Kennedy, and the Essence of Lincoln, all rolled up into one burrito for the nation’s consumption. Truly, yeah, I await for The One to lower the seas and save us all from ourselves.

  15. pinandpuller says:

I guess about 500,000 shovels should be enough-based on the road crews I’ve seen.

  16. Liberals Demise says:

“….according to the MSM Obama is the Ghost of FDR, the Spirit of JFK and the Essence of Lincoln, all rolled up in one burrito for the nations consumption.”
What is left over after the Obama burrito is consumed by the nation? My guess is that we will get “cooks’ revenge!” The Socialism of Ayers, the Hatred of Wright and the Criminals of the Clinton Regime rolled into a Egg Roll and Force Fed to one and all!!

  17. 1sttofight says:

Funny that he was all about change but all we see in his administration so far is the same old Clinton crooks.

Exactly what do the Clintons have on this sad sack.

Maybe the original copy of his Kenyan birth certificate?

  18. Liberals Demise says:

“Maybe the original copy of his Kenyan birth certificate?”

  19. Steve says:

“And besides, isn’t 833,333 jobs a year far far below what job growth has been in the U.S. for decades, which occasional brief periods of decline?”

    Of course.

For example, under President Bush more than 7 million jobs were created between August 2003 and 2006.

Fact Sheet: Job Creation Continues-More Than 7 Million Jobs Created Since August 2003

That was more than ALL of the other industrialized nations combined.

But we heard nary a peep about that from our one party media.

  20. 1sttofight says:

Apparently SG, you did not get the msm memo which said blame every bad thing on Bush and ignore the good news.

Better shape up or it is to the salt mines for you.

BTW, I have the tequila , lime and trepalsect concession there so maybe we can work something out.

It is always 5 oclock somewhere.

  21. Chinnubie says:

2.5 million jobs in 2 years is utterly pathetic and of course the msm will gush over every new employ by any employer anywhere and at anytime. What I still find disgusting is the way the msm ignored any shortcoming of BHO in order to take credit for getting that socialist elected. Anybody want to bet GE gets a bailout when “the messiah” takes office? He owes them BIG!!!! In turn he’ll continue to get the cover he needs to F@#$-UP the country!

  22. Professor_Repulso says:

“…Mr. Obama said he would direct his economic team to design a two-year stimulus plan with the goal of saving or creating 2.5 million jobs.”
This line was in a front page story in today’s Dallas Morning News. It would appear he is backtracking again. How will it be determined as to exactly how many jobs he ‘saves’?

  23. Sharps Rifle says:

Let me guess: The Maximum Leader will guarantee those jobs by placing 2.5 million people in labor camps.

  24. Perdido says:

He’ll get half of those jobs from a decent recovery, if he can just keep the gov’t out of the way. The rest should be doable. 2.5 million is pretty much a modest proposal.

And to “pinandpuller”, that 500,000 shovels comment was condescending, and ignorant. I hope you were tongue-in-cheek because it didn’t come across that way.

  25. Liberals Demise says:

You have never driven by a road improvement work site and seen 6 people leaning on shovels while 1 person is in the hole working? YOUR GOVT TAX DOLLARS HARD AT WORK, PAL!!

  26. JohnMG says:

What is it with this jerk-off? His ego barely fits on the entire internet. How can they manage to sell this pompous ass to the public with such alacrity when half the population has him pegged as the tool of sinister interests? So I have a plan.

There must be some campaign money somewhere that can be freed up for some air time to counter the propaganda machine of the “one”. Just like the democrat responses to every utterance of GWB over the last seven years.

What the hell is “the office of the president-elect” anyway? From where did it spring? Who gives this peckerhead a forum as if he were already in the oval office. Where are the Republican talking heads? Better yet, where are the Republican talking-heads” balls?

  27. Chinnubie says:

The republicans of great intelligence have put up a lame candidate and they are thinking since so many people went the messiah route that this is where we want our country to go hence Republican talking-heads have no balls!!!!!!

  28. BannedbytheTaliban says:

Yippee more jobs for illegal immigrants!

  29. Colonel1961 says:

I had no idea that the Gubmint created jobs – I thought it was the private sector. I guess I’m just old fashioned…

  30. That will be 2.5 million new union members and their families. This adds up to 5 million democrat voters and a $100 million dollars in union donations to the democrats.

  31. BillK says:

    Colonel1961 – they’re called “Government jobs.”

There’s even an acrronym for it in D.C. – a “WAG applicant” – Washington Area Government.

As an example, how many tens of thousands of new Federal Employees will be required to run the new Department of Carbon Caps and Trades?

How many to staff the Department of Global Warming Mitigation?

Add the general growth of the Government in general, and you get the idea.

  32. proreason says:

“That will be 2.5 million new union members and their families. This adds up to 5 million democrat voters”

and in creating those 2.5 million life-time sinecures, many more than 2.5 million private sector jobs will be destroyed.

Government / Union jobs are the most inefficient possible:
    Workers can’t be fired.
    Guaranteed raises.
    Gauranteed non-economic benefits and pensions.
Guaranteed lifetime reductions in productivity, year over year.
Qualifications are based on color, sex, sexual preference, not ability.
Overhead is astonomical. Nobody has an incentive to improve.
Service is inviolately established by law or union rules. Once set, changes require an act of congress.
The objective of the job is continuation of the job, not production of marketable goods and services.

It’s why bloated beauracracies signal the end of civilizations.

  33. BannedbytheTaliban says:

Don’t worry 1st, I’m sure he is just another person posing as a race-baiter like those previously exposed on this site. Probably some weany white kid who is still mad at the world.

But I am tempted to recall a story from just a few days ago. A black man mentioned how he was going to “kick down whitey’s door and give him some justice” if Obama is harmed. I told him to try mine first. Save some people a lot of trouble. Of course he wasn’t a bigot either. I’m just trying to picture this racial harmony the media keeps chirping about.

  34. 1sttofight says:

I was hoping to get a threat of bodily harm, but alas that appears to not gonna happen.
