Yippee! Obama Will Now Use Middle Name

From those tireless defenders of the faith at the Associated Press:

Obama wants to ‘reboot America’s image’

By JENNIFER LOVEN AP White House Correspondent

WASHINGTON—President-elect Barack Obama says he will try to “reboot America’s image” among the world’s Muslims and will follow tradition by using his entire name—Barack Hussein Obama—in his swearing-in ceremony.

The U.S. image globally has taken a deep hit during President George W. Bush’s two terms in office, primarily because of opposition to the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, harsh interrogation of prisoners, the indefinite detention of terrorist suspects at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and mistreatment of inmates at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

Obama promised during his campaign that one of his top priorities would be to work to repair America’s reputation worldwide, and that one element of that effort would be a speech delivered in a Muslim capital.

He pledged anew to give such a speech, though he declined to say whether it would happen during his first year in office.

“It’s something I intend to follow through on,” Obama said in an interview published Wednesday in the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times. “We’ve got a unique opportunity to reboot America’s image around the world and also in the Muslim world in particular. So we need to take advantage of that.”

Obama said his message would be twofold: that his administration will be unyielding in stamping out terrorist extremism but also “unrelenting in our desire to create a relationship of mutual respect and partnership with countries.”

“I think the world is ready for that message,” he said in the interview, conducted Tuesday.

During the campaign, Obama repeatedly faced questions about whether he is a Muslim, particularly in whisper campaigns that noted his middle name, that his father is Kenyan, and that he lived for a time as a child in Indonesia. Obama is a practicing Christian.

Asked if he would drop his middle name during his inauguration on Jan. 20, the president-elect said he would not.

“The tradition is that they use all three names and I will follow the tradition, not trying to make a statement on [sic] way or another,” he said.

Obama also talked about the spiritual support he sought during his White House bid, particularly since he and his family left Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ after inflammatory comments by its pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, became a campaign issue.

Obama said he set up a “sort of prayer circle across the country” of pastors who would pray for him every morning on a conference call. Obama said he sometimes joined the call, which involved leaders from various Christian denominations and other religious faiths.

“I’m not even sure that all of them voted for me,” Obama said. “But they were willing to pray for me, and that’s something that was wonderful.” …

Which is it, Ms. Loven? Is Mr. Obama trying “to make a statement” by using his middle name or not?

The article strongly implies that he is, despite the quote from Mr. Obama himself.

Anyway, lest we forget, this is not quite the tune the Obama camp and the media (but we repeat ourselves) played during the campaign.

Indeed, as we noted back in February, via the Islamophobes at the Chicago Tribune:

Michelle Obama campaigning in Chillicothe, Ohio for her husband, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., Thursday Feb. 28, 2008.

Michelle Obama: name Hussein is ‘the fear bomb’

by Mark Silva

Michelle Obama, who often has decried “the fear bomb” that opponents have used against her husband for his middle name — Barack Hussein Obama — said in Canton, Ohio, today that it is happening again and shows why it’s so important that he wins election as president.

They threw in the obvious, ultimate fear bomb,” Obama said today of her husband’s 2004 Senate race. “We’re even hearing [that] now. … ‘When all else fails, be afraid of his name, and what that could stand for, because it’s different.’”

The senator’s wife said that rivals use innuendo to play on fears. “Just as they’re saying it now,” she said.

But, she told about 200 supporters this morning at a restored theater in Canton, Obama won despite that “climate of negativity and doubt” in 2004. “We learned, number one, that when power is threatened by real change they will say anything to stop it,” she said. “But we also learned that the American people can handle the truth.”

What America needs, she added, is a “fundamentally different kind of leadership,” one that challenges people to be different, and better to one another. And that, she said to critics who say it is not his time, cannot wait.

“Barack Obama will be the kind of leader we need right now, not in four years or eight years or 12 years,” she said. “We can’t wait to get this right. We need it to happen today.”

But suddenly now Mr. Obama’s middle name is no longer a “fear bomb.”

By the way, President Bush freed more than 50 million Muslims from the most abject tyrannies in Iraq and Afghanistan.

How will Mr. Barack Hussein Obama top that?

The Obama Puff Piece of the Day, from the sycophants at the LA Times:

Obama says he hopes to help ‘reboot America’s image around the world’

He discusses his Cabinet choices and his strategy for his first year in office, and reflects on his role as the first African American elected president.

By Christi Parsons, John McCormick and Peter Nicholas

Barack Obama says his presidency is an opportunity for the United States to spread a message of tolerance, starting the day of his inauguration and continuing with a speech he plans to deliver somewhere in the Muslim world.

And when he takes the oath of office Jan. 20, he plans to be sworn in like other presidents, using his full name: Barack Hussein Obama.

I think we’ve got a unique opportunity to reboot America’s image around the world and also in the Muslim world in particular,” Obama said Tuesday, promising an “unrelenting” desire to “create a relationship of mutual respect and partnership in countries and with peoples of goodwill who want their citizens and ours to prosper together.”

The world, he said, “is ready for that message.”

In a wide-ranging interview, Obama discussed his strategy for his first year in office, vigorously defended his choice for attorney general and reflected on his role as the first African American to be elected president.

Obama’s first newspaper interview since his Nov. 4 election came just hours after Illinois Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich was arrested on a federal conspiracy complaint. The complaint alleges that Blagojevich essentially tried to auction off the appointment to replace Obama in the U.S. Senate. The president-elect declined to speak about any discussions between his representatives and those of the governor, a fellow Democrat.

Obama said he had never spoken personally to Blagojevich about his possible replacement, either before or since his victory. Shortly after the interview ended Tuesday afternoon, Obama’s transition office released a statement saying that top advisor David Axelrod misspoke last month when he said Obama had talked with Blagojevich about the Senate vacancy.

Citing an “ongoing investigation” into the matter, Obama said he considered it inappropriate to talk further about the situation.

As the Blagojevich drama unfolded in the federal courthouse, Obama lounged in an armchair in his spare black and gray office, a scattering of peanut shells from his afternoon snack littering the floor.

Obama said the country must take advantage of a unique chance to recalibrate relations around the globe, through diplomacy that emphasizes inclusiveness and tolerance as well as an unflinching stand against terrorism.

“The message I want to send is that we will be unyielding in stamping out the terrorist extremism we saw in Mumbai,” Obama said, adding that he plans to give a major address in an Islamic capital as part of his global outreach.

Though world events and economic winds have made his agenda all the more challenging, Obama kept close counsel on how he plans to move forward.

He would not commit to specific plans on matters as varied as free trade, unionization and illegal immigration. Instead, he said, his nominees and advisors are studying the issues and will report back with recommendations.

Asked if he would support the extension of the fence between the U.S.-Mexico border, Obama deferred to his nominee for the Homeland Security Department, Janet Napolitano.

In similar fashion, he sidestepped questions about whether he would move quickly on promises to rework the North American Free Trade Agreement or push the so-called card-check law that would make it easier for unions to organize.

“My economic team is going to put together a package on trade and on worker issues,” he said. “That will be presented to me. I don’t want to anticipate right now what sequences will be on these issues.”

Likewise, he offered no hints about future Cabinet appointments, but voiced strong support for Eric H. Holder Jr., his nominee for attorney general, by batting away concerns about Holder’s role in the controversial pardon of fugitive financier Marc Rich at the end of Bill Clinton’s presidency.

“Everybody who looks at his record says the guy was an outstanding attorney, an outstanding prosecutor, an outstanding judge, an outstanding No. 2 at the Justice Department,” Obama said. “And Eric has acknowledged the Rich pardon was a mistake on his part, not having caught that earlier.

“I agree with him,” Obama said. “I think it was a mistake. But when you look at the totality of his experience, there’s no doubt he’s going to be an outstanding attorney general.”

So Obama will basically sit down and sing Kum-Ba-Ya with the world, and meanwhile will refuse to admit what he’s got in store for the US.

Makes sense – why ruin the “Obama glow” the public has about him… yet.

I’ve been trying to remember for a long time about some other famous politician who also rode into power on waves of expectation and how great they’ll be and fell flat as a pancake in office, but for the life of me I can’t remember their name. So now he’s going by the full name to makes us all feel better about our place in the world. He’s a hero for his highway road projects (not even planned out yet) and his statement that there shall be no more pork. Uh-huh. Yet we’ve already got a scandal he’s trying to wiggle around, and I know many of the silent masses are wondering how bad it’s going to be under him.

Of course the liberals are all prancing and going “Nyaaah! Nyaaaaah! You’re just jealous, LOSERS!” and we’re biding our time until the mid-term elections.

But I am having nightmares on how Michelle is going to decorate the White House………

  3. Paulajay says:

I believe Obama’s declaration of “no more pork” stems from his Muslim background.

  4. JohnMG says:

……“We learned, number one, that when power is threatened by real change they will say anything to stop it,”—Michelle Obama.

We learned it from the Clintons, who not only SAID things to stop it, but DID things to stop it as well. Obama learned the same thing as a protege of the Chicago political machine. When he has the power of the presidency in hand as of January ’09, this nation will see things that will make the Clintons appear as choir members. Those of us who resist will be ruined. The media will continue to provide cover in every way possible by ignoring or refusing to report the abuse of power.

As has been said, “Absolute power corrupts absolutely”.

  5. Barbie says:

and John McCain got his panties all in a bunch when Hussein was used at his rally. John McCain – are you going to call Obama and yell at him for using his middle name???

  6. Barbie says:

Michelle Obama says when power is threatened by real change??? And where would that real change be? What a dumb…

  7. Steve says:

Say what you will, but Barack Hussein Obama is a Islamophone.

  8. Chinnubie says:

Why do the MSM care about how our country, appears to the rest of the world. We “the people” are what matters not our appearance. If we were such a hated and tainted country why do the immigrants(legal & illegal) that come here keep telling everybody that this is the greatest country in the world. Who actually listens to this garbage and believes it without laughing. As long as we are kept safe from extra curricular activities of the bomb making type, I, and I’m sure a lot of other Americans, could give a sh*# what other uneducated, brain-dead, moronic, uninformed, ignorant, retarded, liberals in other countries think about the United States of America!!!!!!

Bottom line: If you do not like where you live, MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. DW says:

President-elect Barack Obama says he will try to “reboot America’s image” among the world’s Muslims…

Maybe I missed it. Tell me, was there ever any effort made to reboot Islam’s image among Americans after 9/11? Or was it -as I seem to recall- strictly a one-sided pandering, apology-for-who-we-are,
we-need-to-be-tolerant festival that never really stopped?

The U.S. image globally has taken a deep hit during President George W. Bush’s two terms in office,…

This is another old classic that falls under the category of pure bullshit.
Anti-Americanism is something new? Crap. It’s been around far longer than I have and will no doubt outlive me.
    As will pro-Americanism.
The anti-American crowd just happen to have the prodigious weight of the MSM (and the even more prodigious weight of Michael Moore etal) airing their views more widely today.
(for the benefit of those just joining us, this is being written by a non-American)

  10. JohnMG says:

……”Obama Will Now Use His Middle Name!….”

    Who say’n his middle name? ;-}

  11. pinandpuller says:

During the speech in a Muslim capital Joe Biden will be backstage with his fingers in his ears like LBJ.

  12. JohnMG says:

pinandpuller; …..”Joe Biden will be backstage with his fingers in his ears….”

Well, for the last thirty-odd years, “plugs” has had his finger in his ass, so I doubt anybody’d even notice the difference.

  13. U NO HOO says:

Let us hope Biden accidentally plays “switchies.”

  14. AmericanIPA says:

This naive notion that being nice and respectful to terrorists will lead to an end of terrorism is just too much to take. Obama and people like him seem to believe that every nation in the world is as blessed as we are in electing our leaders (although lately we’ve been less blessed than I prayed we would be).

In case liberals haven’t noticed, the only real democracies that exist in largely muslim countries are due to war, not pandering and nice talk. And keeping them democratic will take an iron fist, not a bouquet of lilies. Violent, murderous zealots don’t change their mission in life because you ask politely or tell them you respectfully disagree with their position. They want to kill all who disagree with their position, even if those who disagree are of their own religion and nationality. What does it take to get through to liberals on terrorism already!?

As for Obama’s middle name, who are these “opponents” who used his middle name as a wedge issue? How come some fringe liberal talk show host can’t be held accountable for what liberal pols say or do, but the ones on the right must be held accountable for what the say? I really never heard anyone in the conservative media say anything derogatory about his name. His policies, positions, and associations were plenty enough for conservatives to harp on. Not that anyone was listening.

  15. David says:

If Obama gives a speech in a Muslim capital as one who has admitted rejecting his fathers Muslim faith and becoming a Christian, Biden better be back in States or it is madam President for all of us! Do you suppose Obama really is so ignorant to not realize the price on his head for rejecting Islam?

  16. Liberals Demise says:

We can hope Obama can change the world with a smile and a Coke!!
OBAMA AKBAR!! Muslim radicals aren’t that stupid!! They hate smiles!

  17. proreason says:

Obamy could be killed in a Muslim city.

He is worse than an infidel. He is a born Muslim who converted (ostensibly) to Christianity. There will be Muslim’s who hate him even worse (if that is possible) than Bush.

But regarding his “religion”. If he is indeed a practicing Christian, that would bring the total number of Harvard graduates who are practicing Christians up to……………1.

His religion, like everything else about him, is an obvious lie.

  18. Reality Bytes says:

A little glimpse into how January 20th will go down.

Note the other guy from Chicago playing Rahm Emanuel picking the Obama Cabinet too. A striking resemblence except for the fact that the guys in Animal House eventually grew up & became Republicans.
