Obama Won’t Attack Iran After Israel Attack?

From his tireless fans at the Associated Press:

Obama says Clinton’s tough talk on Iran too much like Bush’s

By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writer

INDIANAPOLIS - Barack Obama scolded Democratic rival Hillary Rodham Clinton on Sunday for saying that the United States would “totally obliterate” Iran if it attacks Israel, and likened her to President Bush. Clinton stood by her comment.

The foreign policy dustup came as the two candidates appeared separately on dueling Sunday news shows and as the drawn-out fight for the Democratic nomination grew ever more fierce ahead of the next pivotal pair of primaries, in Indiana and North Carolina on Tuesday.

Seeking the advantage, Obama seized on Clinton’s recent answer when asked what she would do if she wins the White House and Iran attacked Israel with nuclear weapons.

“I want the Iranians to know that if I’m the president, we will attack Iran,” Clinton said April 22 in an interview with ABC. “In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them.”

On Wednesday, Iran strongly condemned Clinton for her remarks. Iran’s deputy U.N. ambassador, Mehdi Danesh-Yazdi, called her comment “provocative, unwarranted and irresponsible” and “a flagrant violation” of the U.N. Charter.

On “Meet the Press” Sunday, Obama said: “It’s not the language we need right now, and I think it’s language reflective of George Bush. We have had a foreign policy of bluster and saber rattling and tough talk and in the meantime have made a series strategic decisions that have actually strengthened Iran.”

He also suggested Clinton’s comments were politically motivated.

“Senator Clinton during the course of the campaign has said we shouldn’t speculate about Iran, we’ve got to be cautious when we’re running for president, she scolded me on a couple of occasions on this issue, yet a few days before an election, she’s willing to use that language,” he said.

Clinton, asked on ABC’s “This Week” about Obama’s criticism, said she had no regrets about her comment.

“Why would I have any regrets? I’m asked a question about what I would do if Iran attacked our ally, a country that many of us have a great deal of, you know, connection with and feeling for, for all kinds of reasons. And, yes, we would have massive retaliation against Iran,” Clinton said.

“I don’t think they will do that, but I sure want to make it abundantly clear to them that they would face a tremendous cost if they did such a thing,” she said…

Mind you, this is the same Barack Hussein Obama who has said in the past that he would attack Iran — even Pakistan — if the mood struck him.

Did you ever think that there would be anyone on the planet who could make Mrs. Clinton seem sensible — even tough-minded?

Moreover, isn’t it hilarious that the Associated Press calls such childish (though dangerous) comments a “foreign policy dustup.”

Are there no grownups left to run for the Presidency?

My liberal born-again-atheist acquaintances are always telling me that the world will be a safer place once we get the rightwingchristians (all one word) out of office. These are the same people who become almost hysterical if I throw a plastic bag away. No really, they do. Save the plant!

Yet if you tell them that you are more worried about extremist Islamists and their ability to manipulate the cravenly apologetic Western media … they look at you blankly, and repeat the mantra “the world will be a safer place once we get the rightwingchristians out of office”

Obama appears to believe that a concillatory stance will make the worldasaferplace (one word again).
Hey I wish that were true. But it’s a bit like battered wife syndrome isn’t it?

PS: He may have a point about the invasion of Iraq strengthening Iran’s position … however, that testifies more to the cunning nature of the Iranian government and the cravenly apologetic Western media … (i.e. it’s still the libs fault).

In one sentence he illustrates his incompetence: (paraphrasing)
“If Iran can go to the United Nations and complain about these comments and get some sympathy then that is a sign we have got the wrong approach.”
Yes because truly the problem is not a radical Islamic country hell-bent on acquiring nuclear weapons, the problem is not a vile and corrupt body of world legislators that make their living capitalizing on American guilt, no the real problem is our approach to foreign policy!
When the mushroom clouds roll I hope he is in DC to face the blinding flash of the reality of his “can’t we all just get along” foreign policy.

“Are there no grownups left to run for the Presidency?”

There are, but no one wants us, just our vote and money.

Has Obama got anyone advising him who is pro Israel or pro |American?

As if the UN (choke) is Obama’s standard… you know the UN that elected Iraq to Chair the Disarmament Commission, when saddam was still in charge; or Libya to oversee The Human Rights Commission … omg

Obama comes from the schools filled with the stop the wars activists and the professors who espouse America is bad. He will fit right in with the UN hating America bashers. Well yah know he’s made a life of lookin for and embracing new mentors.

    God save America.

U NO HOO for President! Cabinet positions for S&L’ers! SJ for Secretary of Defense! Wardmama4 for National Security Advisor! Oh, the glory of it all!!

It is amusing, but at the same time, this Liberal Senator has Hillary pegged.

It is almost as if he simply doesn’t take her too seriously.

Hillary speaking so tough is a laugh riot. And all Obama has to do is remind the vapid Liberals of her vote - denial - lie about Iraq, to gain the Democrat Liberal approval.

The Clinton deceit is so vivid.

Actually, it would probably help this Nation, if Democrats finally pushed someone who more honestly promoted their misguided beliefs, instead of the endless Clinton Malfeasance.

But then again, it would help if we had a real Conservative to compete against this folly…

McCain is going to use the old Clinton FACADE against Obama, and it isn’t going to be pretty.

Great pic texaspsue. LOL!! I guess now we know why snObama won’t attack his bretheren in Iran.

Somebody should ask snObama if he’s Shiite or Sunni?

I am a little confused though. As SG points out, he was all ready to bomb Iran and Pok-eh-ston just a few weeks ago. Flip-flopper is too generous for this idiot. He’s just lost without his script.

Obama has a big enough mouth to latch on to that ass.
Thanks for the pic (Link) Tex!

I know a young woman - ex of a family member - who can tell you the exact opposite of something within the same conversation - I do not think she even realizes how much she lies (which of course makes all of us wonder which is the lie and which is the truth or even if she knows what the truth is) - Obama The Movement, now that it is coming down to crunch time - seems to have reached that breaking point - say whatever is expedient at the moment. Her Royal Clinton has done it - but not so quickly - well, not until that NY licenses for illegals mess. Look how much trouble that caused her.

Now Obama The Movement is stepping into it left (Typical White Person), right (Bitter American hicks) and center (obomba or not to obomba). . .

This isn’t even over yet (imagine the General Election - when all the dirt will start flying) - If I cared about who was running for the GOP, this would be fun - but I am still trying to figure out which of these losers I should cast my vote for.

Perhaps Obama The Movement just might want to suggest the UN use some of that 1.2 B stockpile before he really pushes the $845B American tax hike for them to add to that stash, oops stockpile. But then he’d be flip flopping again.

    Isn’t American politics fun?

    “Isn’t American politics fun?”

I had to point out to some sniffy liberals on a UK comments board, that given that there is a senior citizen, a woman and a black man currently in the US presidential race, that maybe that’s equal opportunities.

Of course, the US is too sexist to vote Hillary, and too ageist to vote McCain, and too racist to vote Obama, so I guess you guys will just have to do without a president for the next four years until someone can find a disabled black lesbian grandmother to run your country.

  13. rachelw

Lovely speech. Let’s throw out everything Reagan fought for, all that ‘Star Wars’ stuff who needs it. And while were at it let’s disarm our nukes, bury all our ammunition and shut down the military as we all sing kumbaya, smoke a little pot and walk behind the pretty animals. Nice to know, if BO wins we’ll be in competent hands when the next 9/11 hits.

  14. texaspsue

“…..so I guess you guys will just have to do without a president for the next four years until someone can find a disabled black lesbian grandmother to run your country.”

What a concept G.E….. I’d vote for that. (The NO PRESIDENT part, that is) :-)

  15. wardmama4

Let me remind you that many believe that the anti-Christ will disarm the World (except for his/her own forces) - rendering fighting back moot. . .

You know I’d love to put down our weapons and live in a peace filled World - but as long as there are hatefilled freaks in my own country who want to assassinate the sitting President for being a C student chimp run by a guy who stepped down (so who is running him now, I ask) - much less the Hugos, Father Fidels, Ahmedineajhads, Kims, Mugabes, Assads, etc (since I’m really not up on the other petty thugs, dictators and punks) - I will keep my guns and speak up to defend that right, but more importantly insist that my country has a viable Military to protect it - from all enemies - foreign and domestic.
