Obamas Are Still Looking For A Church

From a deeply concerned McClatchy News:

Nearly a year later, Obamas still looking for a church home

Margaret Talev | McClatchy Newspapers

lMarch 13, 2009

WASHINGTON — Nearly a year after a painful break from his Chicago church, President Barack Obama and his family are considering joining several churches of various denominations in the nation’s capital but have yet to settle on one, and aides said that they’re unlikely to decide before Easter.

The delay reflects how the economic crisis has crowded out some personal considerations since Obama’s inauguration in January, but it also underscores the complexities of this personal decision by a public man

As America’s first black president, Obama faces another unique conundrum: whether to join a historically black church.

Then there are standard logistical concerns: What churches could accommodate frequent presidential visits without seriously disrupting the existing congregation’s ability to attend services? Which can the Secret Service best secure? Which routes work well for a motorcade?

Of those churches that best fit the Obamas culturally — ideologically and in terms of community service — which have the best youth programs for children Sasha and Malia?

"The Obamas are committed Christians, and they are certainly looking forward to a place to worship in their time in Washington," said Joshua DuBois, the director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships and one of a handful of aides assisting the family’s search. "What has become clear is that it’s no easy task."

DuBois declined to say which churches or exactly how many the Obamas are seriously considering. He said that multiple denominations are being considered, as are historically black and mixed-race congregations.

The Obamas and a tight group of friends and advisers are vetting churches, but White House aides declined to discuss what the vetting process involves.

The consensus among several area pastors, religion professors and community organizers who were interviewed is that about a dozen churches in Northwest Washington are probably contenders…

Without a church all these months, DuBois said, Obama "spends daily time in reflection and prayers. He does that privately."

So far, the Obamas’ few church visits since moving to Washington in January have been connected to political events

We suspect that Ms Talev doesn’t understand the depth of the Obamas’ religious faith.

As Mr. Obama admitted in the first of his two autobiographies, he only joined Mr. Wright’s church to get some street cred as a “community organizer.”

And while the Obamas might believe in Black Liberation Theology, the rest of his claims about being a ‘committed Christian’ was pretty much window dressing.

And now that the campaign is over, those pretenses be discarded until the next time Mr. Obama needs them

How hard could it be to find a commie pinko nazi racist thug gangsta pastor in DC

  2. Liberals Demise says:

“……..now that the campaign is over……..”
Steve, he hasn’t stopped and my guess is he will never stop because that is all he knows how to do. Ummm….that and read a teleprompter correctly. (AND LOOK STATELY)
    Good GAWD!!

  3. U NO HOO says:

    Al Sharpton?

    Jesse Jackson?

Obama announced he was running for President two years ago and he never thought about Cabinet nominees or where to go to church?

Just open the phone book and read.

St. Matthew’s Cathedral comes immediately to mind.

  4. canary says:

As I recall very early in the campaign, he was not a regular church attender. When the Rev. Wright stuff came out, I was surprised Obama didn’t come out with the truth, and say he didn’t attend church much. Somewhere I read in his own words, that when he went to the
Trinity Church, Wright’s yelling “hope” touched him. In his own worlds he wrote of muslim worshiping, so really he can’t keep up with his lies. Hes’s created his own practice and religion of lying and considering himself supreme.

The Times’ Nicholos Kristof wrote Obama recited, “with a first-class [Arabic] accent,” the opening lines of the Muslim call to prayer.

  5. Celina says:

Commited Christain? What part of Christ’s teachings tell us that it is okay to destroy God’s creation, tear him limb from limb, puncture his skull and burn him with saline, in the place that is supposed to be the epitome of safety and protection, his mother’s womb?

    • Liberals Demise says:

Barry must have missed that preaching Rev. Wright had at the church. What with all the hate and loathing of whitey!!

    • JohnMG says:

I would agree that Obama is ‘certifiable’ and had ought to be committed, but with apologists like Ms. Talev and articles such as the one above, there is little chance of that happening.

  6. jrmcdonald says:

When you don’t believe in God, the choice is hard.

  7. Clarissimus says:

Obama was in the Senate for two years — I should think that his family could attend the DC church where he is already a member.

Oh, wait. Obama was campaigning for two years. Hmmm, okay, then we have a problem.

  8. GetBackJack says:

I wouldn’t dare comment on a man’s choice of religious views, except to say, that when holding an elected office of the magnitude that makes decisions for our entire Nation, decisions we must live with, accept and/or suffer the consequences … that man’s expression of relationship with the Almighty takes on a signifigance far beyond mere Religion.

Obama has said, and is obviously determined to divide Israel and give possession of Jerusalem to the Arabs.

You and I will suffer immeasurably from that act. God gas stated any number of times in His holy scriptures that (1) Israel is MY LAND and (2) Jerusalem is MY LAND. In Ezekiel, Zechariah and other references God says flatly that He will destroy those nations that divide Israel. He will destroy those nations who give Jerusalem as a possession to Edom (Arabs).

This is not up for debate, nor negotiation. It is God speaking as bluntly as He ever will. This is MY LAND.

Obama and Hillary and all the unrevealed powers in the United States who seek to make the “Jewish” problem go away will seal our doom by dividing Israel, and giving away Jerusalem.

So … how can Obama be a committed Christian and violate this most fundamental raison d’tre of the God’s revealed Will?

I conclude he is not a Christian, but one of the wolves in sheep’s clothing.

    • Beep says:

JACK: You have great faith. Have a little more. There is NO WAY this country would EVER give up supporting ISRAEL. NEVER. I think you know that in your heart to be true. People are just trying to find a solution. Sometimes I think, for I have read the Bible too, the solution of peace in that region will NEVER happen. But sometimes people try different things. Do not lose faith.

    • canary says:

GetBackJack, I understand and agree with everything you’ve said.

Beep: JACK: You have great faith.

Beep: I pray that this country would not give up support of Isael, but there are many people in this country that hate Jews. Many Christians, Catholics, and Muslims, Asians that hate jews. I think maybe you’ve been a little sheltered.
And Jack is correct in what the bible says. Isreal is God’s land, inspite of the most destruction happening all around it. . No matter what Isreal will be left standing. There will be people from every nation saved, and God,Jesus, and the HolySpirit as one will come down from the heavens as “one” which people will see, but “His” foot will touch down at Jesus’s birthplace.

Now, Obama has no evidence of being a Christian. He was impressed with Wright, not Christ. And after being elected, Obama publically compared the
barbaric Qu’ran muslim faith to Christianity, by quoting scriptures, how in the bible it was eye for an eye. Where Obama exposes himself, in not understanding Christianty, is that Christ did away with all those things. But, Obama is so ignorant about Christianity, in his own wrightings he admits no one in his family practiced Christianity. And Obama (and Pelosi) are wrong to say the Quran and bible are the same, because some nut wrote the Koran, chopping heads off, cutting hands off, suicides, and it is practiced today.

And I don’t think about passing judgement on anyone. Jews believe in Christ’s coming. So, would if when they see Jesus coming down from the sky, they will say this is the son of God who will save us. But, by definitions in the dictionary, I’d say Obama is a liar, And I’m sure some shrink would have alot to say about him. And Christians can call him a wolfe in Sheeps clothing, traitor.
He is a writer. The way he quotes everybody and everything since he was 5 and can detail, smells, and veiws, is really kind of fictational only his ego, he had to write it in first person. lol. I mean when he goes into such graphic detail about his step-dad killing that chicken, and breaking it’s head off, and watching it take it’s last breath. And his mom saying “they’re not my people”.(referring to Americans).

  9. mybrotherkeeper says:

    Does anyone really care?

  10. MinnesotaRush says:

Now, now. We’ve gotta give him a chance .. right???

After all, didn’t it take every other new president months (if not years) to find a church???

(Dripping with sarcasm, of course) ….

IF .. he were a “Comitted Christian” .. 1) he wouldn’t have to advertise it/sell it, and 2) he would’ve located his church very quickly (especially with all the help he has at hand) before he moved into the White House. It simply isn’t politically necessary to have it a huge priority.

And .. Celina .. you nailed it right on the head with your comments! As I recall, Christ did say something like “there are those that say you know me, but don’t”. You are truly ‘spot on’!

    • Liberals Demise says:

Barry had better know (as Commander in Chief) that Marines guard the gates of heaven and when the Man says, “I know ye not” …….. HE won’t enter.

  11. BigOil says:

One does not need a church when their religion is the state.

  12. proreason says:

If The Moron is a practicing Christian, that will bring the total number of practicing Christians graduates of Harvard Law School to……………1.

    • Beep says:

Well proreason, you have confirmed my belief that most people on the internet are under 15 or just undereducated:

    • proreason says:

hey Beep, good to hear from you.

Anybody that believes The Moron practices religion is a fool. He joined a church for political expediency. Everything he does is for political expediency.

His primary religious “education” is in the Muslim faith. There is no evidence he practices that one.

      His mother was an athiest.

He rarely uses religious allusions. He doesn’t go to church. He is the most pro-abortion politician ever. His “pastor”, when he had one, is a virulent anti-semite anti-American racist. Hard to see much religion there.

The whole philosophy of the hard, socialist, communist left is based on secularism and me-ism. They are contempuous of religion in general, because all religions believe in truth….and truth is inconvenient for seculatists whose interest is dominated by feathering one’s own nest.

As I said, if you think The Moron is religious, you are worse than a fool.

And anybody that goes to Harvard is trained not only atheism, but active contempt of religion.

    • Liberals Demise says:

I’d like to see the “ONES” credentials first and birth certificate second. Then we can argue the finer points as to why a place of higher learning can teach godless religion. I loathe lawyers and all they stand for because they are the ones who mucked it all up for us!!
Just look at our Gov’t for all the proof you will need!!

    • canary says:

Beep/I gathered you were young and sheltered. Probably, have alot of love and peace people around ya. You might read your bible, or google the Holocast to understand there are those that don’t want peace. Like the way Obama gave all that money to the Hamas, after they bombed Isreal for all these years. Talk to ya elders

    • canary says:

Beep, muslim animals hatred for Isreal in San Fransico alone have joined the ranks of Columbia University and Harvard that hate Isreal. The end will chill you. 5% moderate?

  13. JMDibari says:

Obama’s lack of expereince in a decision-making capacity is showing. I mean, they guy is having trouble picking a dog and a church. Of course he’s having trouble filling jobs. The only personnel decisions he’s made quickly are those involving the hiring of Clinton retreads. He even picked the same school for his kids. He might be thoughtful and intelligent, but those qualities do not equate with decision-making ability.

    • shalomsweetie says:

Well, he needs the teleprompter to tell him what to do. He may be a writer but I think of he more as a reader.

    • dulcimergrl says:

I read in the Sunday paper’s supplement magazine yesterday that obambi’s head speechwriter is a “brilliant” 27-year-old guy. Guess that explains a lot (like cars being invented in the USA, for example).

  14. crosspatch says:

I have a suggestion for him. There is this church just a short distance from the White House called The National Cathedral. It is easy to miss, though, it might be mistaken for a Smithsonian Museum.

  15. Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

Hey give the guy a break OK? He’s having trouble finding a church with a ghetto fabulous cross on the altar like that one in the picture. He found one with a big flashing Mercedes emblem, but that just didn’t seem right for some reason.

  16. Al Morone says:

Obama’s just using this “can’t-find-a-church” excuse to eventually rejoin Rev. Wright’s “church.” He’ll probably, after a decent interval, even invite Wright to come to D.C. and become his personal pastor again.

  17. wardmama4 says:

Actually you all covered the points that I was going to make quite well – except for the fact that as POTUS The One ™ does not want to have to answer questions about why he is attending a (not-so-right) Rev Wright Black Liberation Theology church in DC – soooo what better way to avoid those questions than not be ‘able’ to find a church.

A church and a dog for the kids (‘win or lose by Jan 31st’) – two relatively simple decsions, most especially by someone who can have a lacky do all the Internet research for him.

The One ™ is either the biggest liar (proof for this does exist) or the most inexperienced loser going (wait, proof for this does exist) or the most malevolent person to ever sit in the White House (my bad again, proof of this exists too).

GetBackJack – you have a point but I fear a 7 year agreement even more than outright destruction – (Which if you look to some of the real nasty, vile places/people in the World – how long has it been since that happend?!?). For what happens next after that will really, truly bring Change to the World.

    • AConcernedCitizen says:

I can give a pass on finding a dog…those a pain in the neck to find the right one, especially for someone who hasn’t had a dog before (make sure it doesn’t have seperation anxiety, won’t pee all over the carpet, etc). But as someone else pointed out, President Obama was Senator Obama for two years before becoming president. Washington, DC shouldn’t be a brand new place. And the issue isn’t just choosing a particular parish, it appears to be also picking a denomination. Shouldn’t you at least know what your religion and beliefs are by now?

    • wardmama4 says:

I’d buy it (the dog being a non issue) except:

For a real committed person of faith (and for the sake of this discussion I will leave the Christian out – as we here know that The One ™ is anything but a committed Christian) – and a promise to his daughters to get a dog, it is important – very important.

Both are relatively simple for normal people – hey, I would understand a 100% if he had been honest and said – I’m not a pet person – sorry, even with staff to help care for it – The Obama’s aren’t getting a pet. But no, The One ™ lets himself get suckered into the promise to his daughters (‘win or lose by Jan 31st) which begs me to ask the follow up question – If The One ™ reniggs on promise to his daughters – how can anyone else ever believe his promises to them? And he expects and apparently is getting a pass on this issue from the Obamedia.

And even more sacred is his promise to God – which apparently he 1) never made, 2) is afraid to publically indicate what God he made it to or 3) really never made a promise at all but like so much else in his life, just used the church to his own purpose.

The One ™ is not a man of his word in any sense at all – and these two ‘simple’ issues are prime proof of it.

  18. GL0120 says:

Hold on a minute; why does the Anointed One, the one who has come to heal our souls, need a church?
I am truly surprised that a formal church (note that I said formal since it’s already being done casually) has not sprung up to worship him.

  19. TwilightZoned says:

Rev. Wright IS retired. I can’t believe O hasn’t brought him on board as his personal WH pastor. (full blown sarcasm)

  20. canary says:

Maybe Only book oOlla Obama has been reading is Hitlers memoirs how to take over world and the Qu’ran’s Mohammado’s memoirs how to take over God.

  21. Barbie says:

“Without a church all these months, DuBois said, Obama “spends daily time in reflection and prayers. He does that privately.”

sure he does. what a swell guy.

  22. U NO HOO says:

    The National Cathedral

That’s an Episcopalian/Anglican GHWBush church, correct?

Can’t go to a Bush church, change and all that.

  23. joeblough says:

I recommend the Hagia Sophia or the Kalenderhane Camii in Istanbul.

Or perhaps the St. John the Baptist Church in Damascus.

  24. imnewatthis says:

I agree with proreason that Obama is not a believer. His bible is alot newer than most of ours- only 28 years old! Yeah, you guessed it – Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky.

  25. artboyusa says:

Hard to find a church when you think everybody should be praying to you instead…hard to pray when you need a teleprompter to form a complete sentence: “Our, uh, Father who, uh, art in…wait a sec, I’ll get it…”

  26. Gila Monster says:

Hmmmm, …. all that time Obama spent in DC as a hard working Senator from Illinois and he still can’t find a church to attend?

    Oh, …..wait, ….. sorry, my bad. ;o)

  27. brad says:

He is waiting for his brownshirts to build him a church so he can preach. The bible will be replaced with, “The Audacity of Hope.” And Jesus will be replaced with his image.

You know the rest of the story…..
