Obama Christian Advisor Rejects Paul, Pope

Harry Knox defends the implementation of ‘hate speech’ laws and other efforts to silence Christians in the public arena.

Obama’s Christian Appointee to Faith-Based Program Says New Testament Teaching on Homosexuality Is ‘Not True’

Wednesday, April 08, 2009
By Fred Lucas, Staff Writer

(CNSNews.com) – President Obama has named to his faith-based advisory council a self-professed Christian who holds that the New Testament’s teaching that homosexual behavior is unnatural and wrong–which is found in St. Paul’s letter to the Romans–“is not true."

The appointee, Harry Knox, has also said that Obama’s decision to invite the Rev. Rick Warren to say a prayer at the Inauguration "tainted" the ceremony and that Pope Benedict XVI is a "discredited leader."

Harry Knox, a professed gay Christian who is director of the religion and faith program at the Human Rights Campaign, a homosexual rights group, was named to President Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships on Monday. The advisory council gives federal grants to faith-based organizations.

The appointment came after Knox criticized Obama prior to the Inauguration for selecting Warren, a California megachurch pastor and best-selling author, to deliver the invocation. Writing in The Huffington Post blog, Knox said to Obama, “We don’t feel hopeful anticipation of a new day in our country, and we don’t feel optimism. We feel betrayed.”

Knox said in the December article that Warren’s invocation would make the Jan. 20 Inauguration a “tainted” event because Warren supported the ballot initiative in California to amend the state constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman.

On the PBS News Hour in December, Knox said that Warren “has in fact leveraged homophobia to get ahead in his career. … This is the worst possible choice the president could have made. This is a divisive choice. … We said to the president-elect today in very strong language, the strongest we can think of and be respectful of the office, you have really slapped us. And we want you to think about that and think very hard what your actions will be going forward because this very symbolic, early decision has sent the exact wrong message.” …

Isn’t it odd how such a loudly professed Christian as Mr. Obama doesn’t seem to know any regular Christians.

By the way, has he even bothered to find a pastor to replace his spiritual mentor Reverend Wright yet? (Though Mr. Knox sounds in some ways like Mr. Wright’s moral equal.)

Lest we forget, here is what the Human Rights Campaign says they are all about:

About HRC

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

HRC seeks to improve the lives of LGBT Americans by advocating for equal rights and benefits in the workplace, ensuring families are treated equally under the law and increasing public support among all Americans through innovative advocacy, education and outreach programs. HRC works to secure equal rights for LGBT individuals and families at the federal and state levels by lobbying elected officials, mobilizing grassroots supporters, educating Americans, investing strategically to elect fair-minded officials and partnering with other LGBT organizations.

Imagine if there were such an organization dedicated to achieving such “rights” for Christians.

Of course it would never receive tax payers support (as does the HRC). Indeed, it would probably be called a ‘hate group’ by Mr. Knox.

HRC works to secure equal rights for LGBT individuals and families at the federal and state levels by lobbying elected officials, mobilizing grassroots supporters, educating Americans, investing strategically to elect fair-minded officials…

Oh, and never mind that this is in direction violation of the IRS guidelines for 501c3 “charities.”

As we have oft-noted, such rules never apply to the groups on the left.

Meanwhile, has anyone ever heard of any of Mr. Obama’s Muslim advisors ever rejecting any part of the Koran?

(Just kidding. Of course that would mean certain death for any such foolish apostate.)

    From FoxNews:

Obamas Still Searching for Church to Call Their Own

Days before Easter, White House aides say the first family still is looking for a Washington-area church to call its own.

The hunt continues, nearly a year after President Obama severed ties with Trinity United Church of Christ following the campaign controversy over the Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s incendiary sermons.

The problem that The Deceiver has with finding a new church is that they are worshiping Jesus and not him.

“St. Paul’s letter to the Romans–“is not true.” ”

And the next time I have a problem with the law or a belief, I’m going to simply claim that it isn’t true. Seems to work for liberals, why not me.

In an attempt to leverage homophobia to get ahead in his career, Mr. Knox is too clever by half. I can see where the funds are going to go to now. ACORN is probably going to be classified as a “faith based” organization. As a matter of fact, anyone who has faith in the Obamessiah will probably qualify, as long as they are gay. Aside from a broken clock being right twice a day (he does or says something right occasionally), can’t Obama do anything to strengthen this country!!?

  3. pdsand says:

If his “faith” is not based on belief in the written word of God, then what, exactly is it based on?

    • electionhangovervictim says:

Good question! I love how these radical “Christians” like Knox and Wright mold the word of God to fit their own agenda. So, if it’s wrong to be gay according to the Bible, let’s just say that the Bible is wrong in this one instance. We may as well throw the Ten Commandments out the window.

  4. jrmcdonald says:

Is it homophobic to think Obama and Rahm are a little Gay?

  5. proreason says:

The Moron’s professed Christianity is but one more mask in the lenghtly list of disguises he wears in public.

And it’s significant that his selectively Christian advisor is a homosexual. Above all, it’s an insult to the religion, but it also sends a not-so-subtle message about Obamy.

  6. David says:

I reviewed the IRS website again on 501c3 allowed activities. It is pretty clear that they violate the part about lobbying not being the substantial part of their activities considering most of their web page is dedicated to that. A more fundamental issues is the tax language that says a 501c3 org may do “some lobbying.” This is just dumb and confusing. I couldn’t find where the IRS allows you to report an abuse of 501c3 status.

  7. U NO HOO says:

“Mr. Obama doesn’t seem to know any regular Christians.”

“Regular” Christians don’t want to know him.

If I didn’t want to bother the parishoners in church on Sunday I would ask my, hmmmm, retired brother-in-law or old friend priest to celebrate liturgy in the White House every Sunday. Where is Father Pfleger?

Maybe Obama’s poor brother in Kenya can make a life style change and become a priest and do it. Etc.

Obama is like a little kid: Mommy, my head hurts do I have to go to church, school, the dentist…

  8. U NO HOO says:

In New Zealand they are going to shame energy wasters.

What happened to shame in the USA?

Mr.-Knox-type people used to be ashamed of what he is proud of.

    We’re doomed.

  9. pdsand says:

Good luck, somehow Al Sharpton, the man who has been violating this law on television for decades was able to beat the rap on abusing the 501c3 status.

  11. artpa says:

Romans 1:26-27 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

And what could be missunderstood\lied to about in this?

  12. Barbie says:

I’ve yet to understand what equality gay people are denied? I do not understand why what they do in the bedroom in the privacy of their own lives is somehow something that I have to approve or agree with – or even know about.

And, for all the gay squawking about how they’re denied their civil rights, this man is instrumental in ‘hate speech’legislation which is nothing more than the squashing of free speech rights for those who go to church. They are more than happy to take YOUR rights away. As usual, liberals cannot defend or justify their beliefs so the only answer for them is to censure everyone else by passing a law denying you your rights. That’s really evil.

Let’s see? Who do I believe more? Pope Benedict? St. Paul? or some idgit Obama appointee who wants to make his lifestyle choices my business.

p.s. Obama, anyone with an IQ over 30 knows your professed Christianity is just a ruse you use to disguise your true purposes. Stop the bull.

    • ptat says:

Thanks, Barbie, for nailing it! Every articulate word factual and true. I can only say “amen”…

    • electionhangovervictim says:

Yeah, I can’t figure that one out either. In fact, someone could easily make the argument that WOMEN are denied more equality than gay people. This is how I see it…say a black man, a white woman, and gay white man interview for the same job. Who is LEAST LIKELY to be a victim of prejudice in this situation? Obviously the gay man! You can’t disguise the fact that you’re black. You can’t disguise the fact that you’re a female. But if you’re not dressed in a tu-tu singing show tunes, it’s not likely that the interviewer is going to know you’re gay.

  13. mybrotherkeeper says:

Mr. Knox obviously has an agenda. He is still mad that Obama let Warren speak. Methinks he is letting the President know in no uncertain terms where he stands, notwithstanding the bad form he is showing by suing ‘fellow’ Christians, even though he is serving in a Christian-type capacity in the administration. I would hope Obama would be put off by this disrespect.
Actually, this could be another point of disobedience to the Christian’s Bible: “Does anyone of you dare to bring a suit against a brother before unbelievers?” Then he calls the AFA’s documentary a lie? I know they’re not liars. Then he believes in homosexuality? That’s zero for three in the following Christ department.

    • jobeth says:

People like him like to cherry pick the Bible.

“Let’s see, I like that part, but not that part.

“So in so is much smarter than God and he agrees with my perversions so I will toss that part out.

I’ll just keep the parts that I like. And tell you what YOU have to believe to conform to my beliefs.”

Yeah, yeah, THATS the TICKET! LOL

  14. woodmanthered says:

This man has his on way of understanding the bible. He believes that God destroyed Sodom because of all the homophes, and that He brought down the tower of Babylon because they did not have a building permit. He is a very sad man trying to make himself feel good.Late nites when he is all alone he is a very scared man, because he knows what he does is wrong.

    • ptat says:

I appreciate your insight and compassion for this lost soul, Wood. It is Christian of you. We need to pray on!

  15. 12 Gauge Rage says:

This guy is just another modern day prophet of Ba’al. He claims to speak the truth while he perverts the Word of God. So where is our modern day Elijah who will take on these idiots? Saw a humorous bumper sticker years ago: ‘Jesus is coming back soon and boy is He pissed.’

    • jobeth says:

“‘Jesus is coming back soon and boy is He pissed.’”

Now that is a truism I can appreciate LOL

    • canary says:

Amen. I like the part where the ObomieZombie’s will argue “but Lord didn’t I give medicine…,but Lord didn’t I feed poor…but..didn’t I, but,..? And the Lord answer’s “I do not even know you”.
There was a time when the Universal Psychololigy Manauls, agreed that homo-sexualism was “abnormal, deviant behavior. The bible had nothing to do with doctor’s findings and opinions of abnormal sexual relations. This subject should not be such an issue in politics either.

  16. jobeth says:

What strikes me is the hypocrisy. Is he even hearing himself..? Oh silly me…it doesn’t have to make sense. He’s a gay lib.

First he says that the program will be based on lies that say that Christians are being silenced.

Theeeennnn…he goes on to tell you to call the station to tell them to silence the program about the Christians being silenced!

    Hellllooooo! Dumbo!

I do think I will take his advice though. I am going to contact the station and put my two cents in on this program! I am going to tell them how much I appreciate them being brave enough to speak the truth. I hope others will do the same!

  17. AConcernedCitizen says:

I’m still trying to figure out what is taking so long to select a church. The president has been in DC for well over two years, so it can’t be because he hasn’t found the time or had a chance. And as a Catholic (well…I’ve been bad about going to mass lately), it seems odd to me that the list of churches you hear that Obama’s team is considering for his attendance include different denominations of Christianity. He’s not sure if he’s Baptist or something else?

    • jobeth says:

I’m a Baptist and I can say with all certainty Obama’s no Baptist.

I could make a long list of things he does Baptist’s don’t support, beginning with A – abortion….but you get the picture!

So he must be something else…ummm let me see…muslim?

  18. Reality Bytes says:

I’d hate to be gay! Too high an expectation & highly overrated if you ask me.

  19. 12 Gauge Rage says:

I guess the Reverend Billy Graham was either too old or too conservative for Obama to handle. So instead he chose a more ‘progressive’ minister. Obama’s new Christian advisor must have a different Bible than the one I grew up with. Maybe he has the Revised Gay Standard edition.

  20. canary says:

Steve’s comment makes an excellent point.

The Bibles explanations of those that strayed from God, led to depraved or stupid minds, leading to abnormal and sexual acts that lacked cleanliness. (Homosexuality, Bisexuality, orgies, sex with animals, incest, etc. were part of a full context with vanity, idolatry to cows, creeping things, murdering, slandering, whispering, disobedient children, stealing, etc. I think the sexual acts for most leads to thoughts of eeww. yukkie, grotesque. Some of the sins give us thoughts of sadness, anger, & grief. Some in the U.S. lead to punishment, poor health, death. We are fall short and we are all sinners. A sin is a sin, but some have stricter consequences than others. Some, the man made laws do not involved in. With the Ten Commandments now illegal, things may get worse. We’ve got some extremist Obomies that think murdering a homosexual is okay if it‘s a culture religious belief. Some, Obomies think only mutilating children’s bodies should be respected, and not considered an extreme crime. The Bible explains that without following Jesus’s instructions that human minds can become depraved, stupid, mean, harmful, and lead to death.
The government says prostitution is against the law. It bears snowball harm. But, they leave, orgies, swingers, alone. They have prosecuted carriers of Aids, who have proven to intentionally spread it. The context of the unclean, harmful behavior of people, have different consequences as we see.
Whether homosexuality is something you are born with, or do to our society saying appeasing your sexual desires anyway you want, can be debated. My personal feelings were that have feeling sorry for those that struggle with this temptation. But, I believe a lot of is from addiction to sex period. And we have a generation, where without stigma are experimenting, and have no idea what they are. Treat gay people, fairly, respect them, as you would anyone. So, I don’t’ understand all this bringing the law into making
It lawful. We aren’t going to bother passing laws that it’s legal to drink coffee, be unfaithful, be cranky and rude. This is just a subject that does not need to have laws on. We already have laws not to discriminate, or beat someone up., equal pay. Many abnormal and unhealthy behaviors have their own consequences. I don’t believe the constitution or laws should be changed to allow marriage between
Two men, or two women, anymore than I believe there should be a law that a parent can have sex with
Their child, or siblings allowed to have sex. Let them get their own church and preacher and get married, just as gay people are already doing. And earlier before it was a crime to discuss Aids origins, scientists had opinions that it came from sex with monkeys. There’s been talk among equine owners that a disease equine has to be vaccinated for, came from human sexual acts, like the ole Mexican donkey and woman, act. We may never know. But, Obama’s church has already blamed aids on the U.S. so at lest one less world ’blame it on the U.S. speech. For awhile, teenagers were leading the epidemic. It’s back to the men. But, the new global one world religion of Obomyism will probably give us another federal holiday called Gay’s Day.

  21. 12 Gauge Rage says:

When you give your mind, body and soul over to depravity you open the door for other darker acts to follow. And you commit these acts without conscience because your conscience has been seared and calloused by indifference.

I’m waiting for the day the government or some other group tries to ban the Bible (the Truth, not the abridged humpin’-homo-lovin’ lib-version sure to appear at this rate) as a book worse than Mein Kampf. May be paranoid, but I keep one of mine hidden, just in case.

By the way, I seem to recall reading somewhere that homosexuality used to be considered a mental disorder. Just wondering if anyone here recalls the names of any medical books debating that.

    • pdsand says:
