Obama online supporters key to pushing his agenda

Tue Dec 30, 2008

HONOLULU – President-elect Barack Obama’s top asset in pushing his agenda will not be his Cabinet secretaries or aides, but rather his online network.

Obama’s political e-mail list tops 13 million names, a digital force that the incoming White House can tap to push for his legislation, tamp down critics or bolster popular support. It’s also a way for Obama to reach into every state, every city, and every neighborhood.

A study released Tuesday found that a quarter of Obama voters said they would continue to work online to support the new administration. The nonpartisan Pew Internet and American Life Project also found 62 percent of Obama’s voters say they would ask others to support Obama’s policies.

Welcome to the Democrats’ new permanent campaign, one planned online and executed on Main Street.

If it works the way Obama’s top lieutenants plan, the White House would marshal hundreds of thousands of phone calls within hours if it looked as if the president-elect were losing a policy battle. With the click of a keyboard, Obama’s aides could ask supporters to flood the phone lines of Congress, making it untenable to ignore the clamor

Obama’s online supporters raised some $500 million for him, created 2 million online profiles at MyBarackObama.com and used his database to make phone calls during the campaign’s final days.

According to the Pew Research Center for People and the Press, 59 percent of all voters took part in the campaign online, whether it was sending e-mail, reading political blogs or researching candidates. Obama clearly had the advantage…

Liberal groups in recent weeks have joined the plan. MoveOn in recent weeks sent an e-mail to some of its 4.2 million supporters asking them to get involved, for example.

If Obama and his allies play this right, they could send phone lines crashing within minutes of a declared protest. Similarly, the instant communication of the Internet and cellular phone text messages could end it just by typing one word: "Stop."

That power gives Obama’s online advisers a potentially bigger role than many of his Cabinet picks and major hires in pushing through an agenda. A Cabinet secretary stumping for a new bill has been rendered less powerful than a million e-mails crashing the Capitol; a visit to the Hill from top aides is unmatched to online petitions that clog legislative offices…

People often wonder where the untold millions Mr. Soros and his pals pour into the internet go.

Here is the answer. It pays for this army of internet drones.

And if you ever have any doubt, you can find their work product in the comments section of every major media outlet.

Yep, it’s obvious someone is paying for all those commenters.

There is no Free Speech on the net.

If you dont believe me, just try posting a dissenting comment on a liberal site.

    • proreason says:

not just the obvious liberal sites either.

Jake Trappers site is just as bad as the others. You don’t get many chances to deviate from the liberal party line. He must pay an army of little girls to review every comment. One anti-Obama comment is enough to get bounced.

Now, if you love the Annointed One, profanity, violent speech, anti-white racism, bald-faced lies, it’s all ok.

      “Jake Trappers site.”

I’m sorry to hear that. He is a regular reader of this site. And one of the rare reporters who is not a knee-jerk liberal.

    • proreason says:

One of the reasons I did some postings at Tapper’s site was because he seems to deviate a bit from the doctrinaire liberal line, but I would get bounced regularly and finally gave up. The style I used was similar to what I do here, which isn’t patty cake, but certainly doesn’t approach the decibel level of hatred you get on liberal sites.

I think he employs censors, since he could’t possibly take the time to read the thousand+ posts he gets a day. The censors just couldn’t tolerate someone who didn’t swallow obamy’s lies hook-line-and-sinker.

Since his censors work for ABC, well, go figure.

    • sheehanjihad says:

If Jake is a regular reader, then perhaps this will give him a head’s up.

    • Liberals Demise says:

I too visit Jakes site at the (A)ll (B)arak (C)hannel. What a pit of vipers that are allowed to spew the liberal line with no guidelines or censors. Say 1 unkind word about the “Houseboy” and you are yanked!! But Jake is moving into the WhiteHouse and his site is being “Overlorded” by Sunlen Miller. The Herr Jodel of the sites Jackbooters!! I rarely sign on anymore cause there is no dissent allowed anymore and unless you goose step or rap step you are screamed at or better….booted. I’ve found my new digs and I’m quite comfy here. At least free speech is tolerated and defended to the nth degree. Thanks, SG and Happy New Year pal!!

Labor union members, environmentalists, faith-based activists, and those whose good
works are carried out through community groups have organizational vehicles for continuing their work; many of Obama’s young supporters do not. This means that a new organization, likely connected to those who coordinated Obama’s grassroots field campaign, must be created to accommodate this huge influx of potential full-time activists.

This organization would perform two critical tasks. First, it would provide the organizing support for the Obama administration’s main initiatives on alternative energy, health care, labor rights, education, and employment. Second, through the door-to-door canvassing that brought Barack Obama electoral success, these organizers would build support for a new vision for America, one that transcends specific legislation and instead addresses a new set of values based on sharing and compassion rather than the “greed is good” principle that has dominated the national landscape for nearly thirty years.

The organization would be entirely distinct from President Obama, and would not be under his control. Led by those who were energized by Obama’s campaign, the organization would seek societal transformations in line with the agenda that he espoused on the campaign trail. This independent organization would also help keep Obama accountable. Recall that last July, thousands of Obama activists used the campaign’s own social networking tools to protest his reversal on telecom immunity for wiretapping, forcing him to defend his actions to them, even though he did not accede to their wishes. Obama has frequently stated that he welcomes strong pressure from the grass roots to keep his agenda on track, and this new organization would enable activists to counteract pressure on the new president from less progressive constituencies.

A new organization that is spun off from the successful Obama campaign would begin with a large group of activists with demonstrated organizing skills and a commitment to work for the greater good. The advantage of transitioning existing staff to a new organization, rather than starting entirely from scratch, cannot be underestimated. This would be true even absent the series of crises facing the country; in the current climate, advancing the project of social transformation at the start of 2009 is imperative.

    The UFW Model

The founders of this new organization may want to model it after the United Farmworkers of America (UFW) of the 1960s and 1970s. Begun by a young Chicano organizer named Cesar Chavez in 1962, the UFW’s capacity to enlist talented young activists in socially meaningful work on a long-term basis remains unmatched. Among the astonishing array of young talent attracted to the UFW was the now legendary Dolores Huerta; Eliseo Medina, who is now executive vice president of SEIU; Stephen Lerner, the founder of Justice for Janitors; Fred Ross Jr., whose Neighbor to Neighbor coffee boycott in the 1980s helped end El Salvador’s civil war; Marshall Ganz, who helped develop the “Camp Obama” organizing model; and Jessica Govea, a key leader in the UFW’s battle against pesticides. These are but a few of the many UFW activists who have spent decades working for justice.

This is just part of the plan that was initiated over 20 years ago….sieze control of the schools, sieze control of the media, inspire hatred of capitalism and class envy, create the candidate, control the election process, implement Socialism, create a 2-class society with the top sealed from the bottom.

The internet dupes are the rats following the pied piper.

  5. 12 Gauge Rage says:

This is a very Orwellian development. But since most people today have never read Orwell’s novel, 1984, they have no idea how close they’re bringing it to reality.

  6. CGardner says:

The problem with the Obama trolls is that they receive messages with “suggested talking points” and are usually unable to go any further in articulating their arguments.

With a little undercover work from conservatives, the “bots” can be publically uncovered and shown for what they really are.

  7. BigOil says:

Obama’s only discernable skill, community agitation organization, is being unleashed.

I doubt that a bunch of drones spewing the same pre-packaged talking points will have much impact.

  8. cjokry says:

Actually, I think this kind of activity will probably backfire. People will surely tire of the same canned message. Although, that’s what I kept thinking all through the election; the American people will see through this empty sophistry any second now…. any moment… sooner the better….anytime here….

  9. Reality Bytes says:

“Out! Out Damn Dot (com)! Out!

I wonder if Barack has read Shakespeare lately. Maybe he should.

  10. Liberals Demise says:

Even the 0-16 Detroit Lions had cheerleaders. Obamataters (they are their own favorite vegatable) will need their pompom pushers / boot lickers for the up coming train wreck.

  11. artboyusa says:

“Tamp down critics” eh? After the coronation, when we’ve all been picked up and we’re in the Nevada desert, staring out from behind the wire at Camp Tookie (“Fixing Conservatives since 2009”) we’ll know how it feels to be “tamped down”, alright…

  12. canary says:

I went to change.gov site shown, originally it was the site Obama was violating GSA regulations on, until people complained. I just found this new message they copyright what you post and can send it to world countries?

this might explain what foriegn media is saying Obama’s secret plan may be using copyrighting as an excuse to go through your computers. confusing.

well, he’s got a back up plan. His promises of a computer in every home. Bizarre.
