Obama’s Trinity Letter - And Source Of A Lie

From the “Roland Report” at the black magazine website Essence:

Obama resignation letter from Trinity

May 30, 2008

Dear. Rev. Moss:

We are writing to make official our decision to end our memebership at trinity.

We make this decision with sadness. Trinity was where I found Christ, where we were married and where our children were baptized. We have many friends among the 8,000 congregants who attend there and we are proud of the extraordinary good works the church continues to perform throughout the community to help the hungry, the homeless and people in need of medical care. We also have come to appreciate your ministry and both think you have been, and will be, a wonderful pastor for years to come.

But as you know, our relations with trinity have been strained by the divisive statements of rev. wright, which sharply conflict with our own views. Our larger concern is that because of my candidacy and membership at trinity, these controversies have served as an unfortunate distraction for other trinity members who seek to worship in peace, and have placed you in an untenable position as you establish your own ministry under very difficult circumstances.

Our faith remains strong and we will find another church home for our family. But we also know that faith and prayer are not merely exercises to be discharged for two hours on Sunday. They are and always will be a bulwark for us in our daily lives.

We are grateful for our years as part of the Trinity community, and wish you all the best as you lead the congregation into the future. You, your family and the entire Trinity family will be in thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely

Michelle Obama
Barack Obama

And Trinity’s response:

Statement from Trinity on Obama leaving church

“Trnity United Church of Christ was infomed that Sen. Barack Obama and his family will no longer be members of our church. Though we are saddened by the news, we understnad that it is a personal decision.

“We will continue to lift them in prayer and wish them the best as former members of our trinity community.

“As in the prayer for the Ephesians, our entire Trinity family asks that the nation entrust Barack, Michelle, Malia, and Sasha, to God’s care and guidance, so that Christ may continue to dwell in their lives, in their hearts, and in their work.

“We ask now for God’s peace to be with them.

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more and all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” Ephesians 3:20

Rev. Otis Moss III, senior pastor, Trinity United Church of Christ, Chicago

What a surprise.

It turns out that all of these problems are really a distraction brought on by the media and other (ahem) critics:

Our larger concern is that because of my candidacy and membership at trinity, these controversies have served as an unfortunate distraction for other trinity members who seek to worship in peace…

Mr. Obama calls what they do at Trinity “worshipping”?

I thought he said (or rather Mr. Axelrod said) words have meaning.

And speaking of meaning:

[O]ur entire Trinity family asks that the nation entrust Barack, Michelle, Malia, and Sasha, to God’s care and guidance…

Huh? What is Mr. Moss trying to say? Can anyone decipher that?

(One suspects it is just meaningless nonsense dressed up in Christian-sounding terms, like so much of what gets gibbered at Trinity.)

Also please note that both of these letters just happened to find their way to Mr. Roland S. Martin, CNN “contributor.”

(One hopes that the numerous typos are due to Mr. Martin breathlessly sending these historic missives from his Blackberry.)

In fact, it was Mr. Martin who first reported Mr. Obama’s ‘resignation,’ via CNN, to a gobsmacked world.

But lest we forget, Mr. Martin was also the bravo who (falsely) claimed that the Reverend Doctor Wright was merely quoting Ambassador Peck (rather than Malcolm X) in his “chickens coming home to roost” rant “sermon.”

So at least we now know where that preposterous lie almost certainly originated.

BO’s campaign has all the makings of a Broadway hit! Can anyone say FAKE and or STAGED? This guy and the dnc are so fake you can smell the pleather just by looking at his dumb mugshot. Did anyone hear he’s going to ask Kimbo Slice to be his VP?

We also have come to appreciate your ministry and both think you have been, and will be, a wonderful pastor for years to come.

And this is the best the Dimorats do for a presendential candidate.

    From just last Sunday:

Rev. Moss: We are delighted — he needs no introduction. He is a friend of Trinity. He is a brother beloved. He is a preacher par excellence. He is a prophetic, powerful pulpiteer [sic]. He is our friend, he is our brother. He is none other than Michael Pfleger. We welcome him once again…

[Mr. Pfleger delivers his bizarre rant.]

Rev. Moss: We thank God for the message. And we thank God for the messenger. We thank God for Father Michael Pfleger. We thank God for Father Mike.

Make no mistake about it–”Reverand” Moss’ turn is coming—soon to be “underbussed” by Obama!

I’ve never heard of resigning from a church. Don’t people usually just start going somewhere else, or just stop going altogether?

This makes me think of the quote “I would change my religion for a sandwich, but I wouldn’t change my faith for the world.”

Does Barry think we don’t realize that he still believes all this s***?

  6. U NO HOO

In our church we “put aside all earthly cares.”

    Trinity should try it.

  7. 1republicanscientist

If they put aside all earthly cares, why the hell does wright have a 1 mill $$$$ home? Also, in the above photos, BO looks like a Klingon circling Uranus…..

  8. Right2thepoint

I am not familiar with the source you link for the letter, but I do find it surprising that there is a misspelled word and capitalization errors in the letter from Obama.

    memebership

This almost looks like being a draft at best.

  9. SG

“This almost looks like being a draft at best.”

As I noted in passing, and as Mr. Roland says on his site, these items were posted from his Blackberry.

Which could explain the typos, if he were transcribing a hard copy or a fax.
