Obama/SEIU Try To Stop Healthcare Ads

From the Politico:

Groups urge NBC to pull health care ad

Progressive health care reform groups demanded on Thursday that Washington’s NBC television affiliate refuse to air a 30-minute infomercial funded by a conservative group opposed to creating a public insurance plan.

The Service Employees International Union sent a letter to NBC4, arguing that the station has a responsibility to pull the documentary-style commercial paid for by Conservatives for Patients’ Rights. The ad, set to run Sunday after “Meet the Press,” “will be false, deceitful, and a distortion,” the union’s attorney wrote in the letter.

The SEIU has not seen the ad, but is drawing the conclusion from CPR’s record of running “demonstrably false” ads. The station has the duty to protect the public from misleading advertising, the letter argues.

If the ad is aired and does contain falsehoods, CPR could face a fine from the Federal Communications Commission, said Levana Layendecker, the online campaigns director for Health Care for America Now, a coalition pushing to create a public insurance plan.

The coalition, Democracy for America and the SEIU e-mailed their supporters, asking them to sign on to another letter that urges NBC and “Meet the Press” to refuse to air the infomercial. The groups plan to send another e-mail Friday to Washington-area supporters, rallying them to call the station with the same message.

Layendecker said the commercial would demean the venerable public-affairs show’s brand. At the very least, the station should run a crawler under the ad, indicating that the program is a paid advertisement and not endorsed by NBC, she said.

A NBC network spokeswoman declined to comment and referred questions to NBC4. Its general manger, Michael Jack, did not return a call for comment.

Keith Appell, a spokesman for CPR, said the infomercial was produced by Gene Randall, an award-winning former CNN anchor, and already has run on two cable channels.

“It’s no surprise that they would try to block the public from seeing any information about the dangers of government-run health care,” Appell said. “This program is full of compelling first person accounts that every American should hear.”

Progressives have accused CPR of trying to swift boat health care, a reference to Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, a group that came under fire for its ads against former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry during the 2004 campaign. CPR hired the same public relations firm as Swift Boat Veterans, CRC Public Relations.

The SEIU asked CNN and the Fox News Channel to pull an earlier health care commercial, charging it was “false, deceitful and a distortion.” Factcheck.org, run by the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, offered a similarly harsh critique.

Appell said the group stands by its ads.

This is more of the non-partisan open and honest government that Mr. Obama promised us.

We are not allowed to question any of Mr. Obama’s programs. Programs that will be paid for with trillions of our taxpayer dollars.

But we are not allowed to even hear the other side of the argument.

There is no other side, according to Mr. Obama and his professional thugs.

And just in case there was ever any doubt as to who is calling the tune here, these groups are using the exact language that was dictated to them by the Obama administration.

As we noted, the marching orders went out on May 16th:

Paul –

We knew health care reform would face fierce opposition — and it’s begun. As we speak, the same people behind the notorious "swiftboat" ads of 2004 are already pumping millions of dollars into deceptive television ads. Their plan is simple: torpedo health care reform before it sees the light of day by scaring the public and distorting the President’s approach.

We need the resources to take them head on with an urgent, grassroots campaign to pass real health care reform in 2009.

When the swiftboaters flood the airwaves with distortions, we’ll flood the streets with volunteers armed with facts. When they send lobbyists to tell Congress to back down, we’ll send millions of calls, letters, and stories from real Americans asking them to stand up.

Please donate $5 or more by midnight Sunday to fight back against these phony attacks and take our message of reform to the American people.

The swiftboaters are once again trying to sell the American people short

Thank you,

David Plouffe

This is more than creepy.

This is a threat to our very Republic.

They’re only destroying the country to save us from ourselves.

    It’s really about patriotism.

I guess the countless lies espoused by Obama advertised on every network for an entire year don’t really count.

Yeah, that’s a typical lefty response isn’t it? We haven’t seen it but we know it’s bad. What a bunch of sh*t.

I’m having a little trouble figuring out what difficulty the President is having getting his message to the American people. I don’t think the networks have been billing for the primetime press conferences.

Colonel you’re right, this is full tilt bozo creepy.

Does anybody watch NBC any more? I didn’t know they were still in business.

“Please donate $5 or more by midnight Sunday to fight back against these phony attacks and take our message of reform to the American people.” Like there is some kind of time limit here?

If this is the case, I want to see Al Gore (who has a great deal of responsibility for..) behind bars for telling folks that carbon caps which increase the underlying cost of doing business will create more jobs.. I mean we have certainly seen enough of THAT garbage..

Better than bars.. behind a horse.. tied to a rope ..going fast ..stuntman style

  9. I find it extremely troubling that Obama’s campaign logo still takes precedent over the seal of the President of the United States. These activists have more allegiance to Obama than America.

I can never get over the idea the leftists have that free speech needs only to be protected if it is for a leftist cause, otherwise all other critique or comments are called hate speech or attempts a suppression of free speech. I don’t care if there are 2 opposing voices, I do care when one side wants to shut the other side up but then claim they are the only ones protecting free speech. As far as my understanding of the constitiution, one cannot pick and chose how the rights are applied and to which citizens are allowed those rights.

bq: “As far as my understanding of the constitiution, one cannot pick and chose how the rights are applied and to which citizens are allowed those rights.”

      You are absolutely correct.

But the problem is the don’t care any more about the Constitution than they do about restricting your rights.

They can’t be argued down. They have to be defeated. Actually, they have to be crushed because they are like rabid dogs. They never go peacefully.

After all, scamming you is how they make their living. It’s important to them.

I got one of these in an e-mail some weeks ago. I had logged into the brown clown’s website to see if there was any information of a legitimate nature about this guy. I wish I had copied the statement in the sign-up page that said to the effect: “none of this information will be used to solicit or ask for donations, etc”

Well, they sent me this letter and a request for money.

My response was direct, rude and insulting. I have not heard from them since. But when I make a phone call, I hear this mysterious sound on the line….like someone is listening in….LOL

—no, not really but I wouldn’t be surprised to find that I’m on his sh*t-list now. But, ACORN will get the same treatment when they come to my door.

Census? Oh….yes….I have 15 people living here. Me, my wife Shanequa, my 7 dawters Felluja, Salacious, Syphilis, Laconia, Gonorrhea, Plantatia, Dementia, and my sons Kareem AbdulJabbar Foxx Simpson 1,2,3,4,5 and 6. Oh..and our dawg Mistuh Tibbs

    • proreason says:

I always liked George Foreman’s approach to naming his sons.

He named them all George Foreman.

I’ll bet Obamy wishes he had some sons so he could do the same thing.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

      Pro,

Word on the street has it that those ARE his sons…but his wife wanted daughters….so they changed it.

  12. canary says:

After fighting and getting his early discharge from serving, John Kerry was filmed throwing his medals over the fence at a protest, in which other vets followed suit.
Finally, he admitted the medals were fake, and that he still had the real ones. This showed a liar, and hypocrite. When Obama took of his American pin, during the run, and made it clear publically, he did so to make a statement. Both are fakes. Obami get’s more free air time than any politican in history, and making money moonlighting, during his Presidency.

I think it’s a great idea for the idiots to try and take the news to court. Waste those donations.

  13. joeblough says:

BO is moving to place restrictions on speech from a number of angles and in a number of contexts.

You might want to have a look here as well:

White House moves to restrict free speech and stifle dissent from Obama policies
    http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/026353.php

This is a high priority for BO and an important element of his operating method.

If nothing else he is angling to hang high legal costs on expressions of dissent, criticisms of himself and the expressions in general of his opponents positions.

Will these be the days that people will look back on as the fall of America?

What will you say when your grandchildren ask what you did during the great collapse?

    • proreason says:

      Another good observation.

Of course, he has done this during his candidacy but without the power of the government behind him.

During the candidacy, it was done two ways. First, through his alliance with the msm, who very effectively hid his background, made fun of anyone pointing out the extremity of his positions, by not informing the public that he was talking in platitudes, by writing thousads of stories about how centrist and reasonable he is, and by disguising and obfuscating his true positions. Second, by playin the race card at will, which he did hundreds of times. The press continues in exactly the same way today, but as President, he isn’t able to play the race card as easily.

But he isn’t satisfied. He doesn’t yet have complete control of the message. Talk radio and Fox News continue unabated, and now some of the groups injured by his policies are beginnning to speak up as well, including articulate and wealthy lawyers and businessmen. (Note however, that O’Reilly is very very careful to praise The Moron at least a dozen times a show. So much for his blowhard courage.)

They are dangerous and must be forcefully and forcibly, if necessary, stopped.

There is some good new here, however. If there was ever a clear bright line for the press, this is it, and there is some chance that Tapper and others will begin to pursue this angle. They couldn’t care less about talk radio and Fox, but there may be some who begin to catch a glimmer that when free speech is shut down, things might not go well for everybody in the press forever.

So I now hope to see some growing legitimate press inquiry into his actions for just that reason.

  14. proreason says:

From a letter to Hugh Hewitt from an oncologist (cancer doctor):

“I could go on, but this note is far too long already. Specialists, and underpaid generalists will hang it up years ahead of their planned exit from medicine in just about any system that the Obama administration is likely to devise. They’ll scarcely need to ration care: there just won’t be anyone around to deliver it. Government will kill the golden goose, and then blame it upon everyone and anyone else. As usual.:

Millions of people will die before their time so that the Commie Oligarchists can exercise more control over our lives.

But who do you think will have UNLIMITTED access to the top oncologists? ……need I tell you?

  15. in_awe says:

Is there any doubt that public employee unions will be the tool used by despots to permanently alter the power of the president? What message do you think that Obama was sending to all unions with the pay-offs to the UAW?

I watched a program recently that chronicled the transformation of Germany from a monarchy to a republic to a totalitarian state all within 15 years. I was particularly stunned by the verbatim translation of some of Hitler’s speeches in the early 1930’s and how the language is mirrored in Obama’s speeches today. (The program was filmed long before Obama was a national political figure, so it wasn’t a cherry-picked aggregation of quotes by an anti-Obama producer.) Scary stuff.

    • proreason says:

Nothing is new. The script goes back to at least 1918, and the planning of it long before that.

Back then, the anarchists wanted to replace the aristocracy and capitalists (with themselves, of course).

The only thing that has really changed is that instead of attacking the aristocracy, now they are attacking the millions of people who have benefitted from free enterprise.

But their chosen tools are still class warfare, now supplemented by race warfare.
