Official: US Could Absorb A Terror Attack

From the Agence France-Presse:

US could absorb a terror attack and bounce back: official

(AFP) – October 6, 2010

WASHINGTON — A US security official on Wednesday said the country was capable of withstanding another terrorist attack and bouncing back, saying Americans needed to put extremist threats in "perspective."

Michael Leiter, head of the National Counterterrorism Center, said despite recent successes there was no guarantee that intelligence and law enforcement agencies could prevent every attempt by extremists to attack the United States.

"We’re not going to have a perfect batting average and its important that Americans understand that," Leiter told a conference on intelligence reform.

"It’s important that we approach this with national resilience that in fact shows that this country is not going to be defeated by" extremists, Leiter said.

"We do have to put the threat in perspective," he said

Thank Allah Mr. Leiter pointed this out. We had been thinking that all it would take would be just one more terrorist attack and we would surrender to the Muslim jihadists and adopt Sharia law.

Leiter said security agencies faced the threat of "low-probability," large-scale attacks involving possible weapons of mass destruction as well as "high probability", smaller-scale attacks such as the shooting rampage at Fort Hood last year that left 13 dead.

But terrorist attacks should not be viewed as "cutting into the fabric of our society," he said.

No, terrorism hasn’t changed our lives at all. Just ask anyone getting on an airplane.

President Barack Obama made similar remarks in a new book by Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward, saying the country could handle a potential attack.

"We can absorb a terrorist attack. We’ll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever … we absorbed it and we are stronger."

Is there any doubt that Mr. Leiter was told to go out there and back up Mr. Obama? The bizarre thing is that the White House thought this was necessary. They are that reactionary.

By the way, let’s hope that somewhere someone is keeping a list of the politicians who have fought ‘profiling’ and other efforts to protect our country.

These politically correct gentlefolk should be among the first responders to any city that gets hit with a "low probability" WMD.

We are wasting trillions fighting terrorists when, like Cassius Clay, we could just take the death and destruction for a few decades until the foolish Muslims tire themselves out and hold their chins out to us for the knockout blow.

It worked for Cassius, and if he had a bit more time to practice his techniques, he probably wouldn’t have addled his brain by the age of 40.

I live amongst a whole geographic area of Bitter Clingers (TM) who are very well prepared to ‘bounce back’ after a terror attack, otherwise previously known as an act of war. Well stocked, bunkered up and more ammo than the 3rd ID, trust me … we’re trained, educated and very very capable of ‘bouncing back’. But when we do , it’s likely the first thing we’ll bounce is who backed us into this position, and clean some house.

The ridiculous trial that took place on the Times Square Bomber is an indication of things to come. The moose-limbs now know we have gone completely soft on terrorism and can do one of two things. A)lay off because we’re already complying with their wishes to a large degree or B)mount attack after attack and fully expect the US to thank them for it and apologize for not letting it happen sooner.

    My money is on B

  4. Mae says:

Is Obama asking for an attack? Sounds like the best plan for a political October surprise to show how well he bounces back. But he’ll be out of the country when it happens, of course. Am I being prescient?

If there was a vengeful or totally OT God – this moron & the one sitting in the WH would be the only victims – but alas the radical terrorists who happen to be islamic will never, ever hit those who totally deserve to be wiped off the face of the earth – they only go after innocent victims, mostly women.

    “despite recent successes”

I think he means the flying Dutchman and the t-shirt vendor.

“there was no guarantee that intelligence and law enforcement agencies could prevent every attempt by Muslims extremists…”

It’s tough to distinguish the extremists when 99% of Shariah abiding miscreants are erroneously classed as moderates.

“We’re not going to have a perfect batting average and its important that Americans understand that”

I don’t remember being told under the Bush administration that terrorist attacks and 9-10% unemployment are the new normal.

This is the preeminent excuse for not trying. In the military, I learned and knew that nothing is perfect, but you always bust your hump trying to get there. Inevitably, things slip through the cracks but by being ever-diligent and over-the-top aggressive, you stop the obvious things from getting through.

This quote, though is a clear example of a “whatever” attitude. A shoulder shrug..a “Relax, what could possibly go wrong?” state of mind.

The term “bounce back” by both this idiot and Obama convey to me the imagery of those stupid blow up clowns that pop back after you hit them. I wonder if the people who say this stuff where to kids who bragged about how well they could play opossum when the school bully came round.

  8. Papa Louie says:

I don’t know about you but I sure feel safe knowing that the president and the head of the National Counterterrorism Center are so unconcerned and even at peace with the idea of another terrorist attack. That’s the team to bet on — the one that comes into the game resigned to defeat and talking about how well they’re going to bounce back.

I wonder how “resilient” Mr. Leiter would be if the victims of the next terrorist attack came from his own circle of family and friends. Would it cut into the fabric of his society? Would he absorb it and become stronger because of it? It’s easy for these guys to be unconcerned when it doesn’t affect them directly.

Maybe they’re counting on terrorists to help them fundamentally transform the country. You can’t rebuild a house without tearing the old one down first. So don’t they have to take a wrecking ball to the country first, before they can rebuild it in Obama’s image?

“We do have to put the threat in perspective”
Pray, what perspective is that? What is more important to the regime? Paying off union leaders to get more and more power and campaign money to get dumb-o-crats re-elected, OR, doing everything possible to prevent senseless loss of American lives on our own soil?

Take a look at Chicago and you’ll have your answer.

When in doubt spout Oblabla rhetoric.
This is what’s running the show?
God help us from those within the sleeping circle who are contrite.
