Officials: Bomb Suspects Appear Driven By Faith

From the Associated Press:

More details sought on mute Boston bomb suspect

By DENISE LAVOIE and EILEEN SULLIVAN | April 23, 2013

BOSTON (AP) — The 19-year-old charged with the Boston Marathon bombing, his throat injured by a gunshot wound, wrote down answers to the questions of investigators about his motives and connections to any terror networks.

The original headline for this AP article was: "Officials: Bomb suspects appear driven by faith." But apparently that was a little too much for their editors, and they had to dial it back.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s answers led them to believe he and his brother were motivated by a radical brand of Islam without major terror connections, said U.S. officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly.

His answers "led them to believe"? Well, then that’s settled.

But the written communication precluded back-and-forth exchanges often crucial to establishing key facts and meaning, said officials who cautioned they were still trying to verify what Tsarnaev told them and were poring over his telephone and online communications.

They are going to keep investigating? They are thorough.

Tsarnaev was interrogated and charged Monday in his hospital room, where he was in serious condition with the throat wound and other injuries suffered during his attempted getaway…

The earlier supposition that his throat wound was the result of was a botched suicide attempt seems to be fading away.

Tsarnaev did not speak during Monday’s proceeding, except to answer "no" when he was asked if he could afford his own lawyer, according to the notes. He nodded when asked if he was able to answer some questions and whether he understood his rights.

Funny, how he was able to find his voice when it came to getting a taxpayer supplied lawyers.

The criminal complaint outlining the allegations shed no light on the motive for the attack. The two U.S. officials who spoke anonymously said preliminary evidence from the interrogation suggests the brothers were motivated by religious extremism but were apparently not involved with Islamic terrorist organizations.

Because Jokar said they weren’t. Just like his older brother had told the FBI that he was not a terrorist.

The brothers, ethnic Chechens from Russia who had been living in the U.S. for about a decade, practiced Islam.

The hell you say.

A statement released Monday by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs bolstered the U.S. officials’ comments about seeking details on the suspect’s other modes of communication and his associations.

Two foreign nationals arrested Saturday on immigration violations are from the central Asian nation and may have known the suspects, the ministry said. U.S. authorities came across the students while searching for "possible links and contacts," it said.

Officials have not disclosed the names of the nationals, who the ministry said were found to have "violated the U.S. visa regime." …

But our borders are secure. Still, the Obama administration had better spirit these two foreign nationals out of the US fast before they start talking.

Meanwhile, CNN has a few more details that the AP could not bring itself to report:

Source: Boston bomb suspect says his brother masterminded attack

By Jake Tapper and Matt Smith | April 23, 2013

(CNN) — The surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings has told investigators that his older brother, not any international terrorist group, masterminded the deadly attack, a U.S. government source said.

Preliminary interviews with Dzhokhar Tsarnaev indicate the two brothers fit the classification of self-radicalized jihadists, the source said Monday.

And never mind about jumping to conclusions. After all, self-radicalized jihadists always go to Dagestan for six months right before attacking. The Russian government is always on top of self-radicalized jihadists.

Tsarnaev has conveyed to investigators that Tamerlan’s motivation was that of jihadist thought and the idea that Islam is under attack and jihadists need to fight back, the source said.

Funny how this isn’t making headlines today. But just think how this would be reported if you replaced "Islam" with ‘Tea Party.’

The government source cautioned that the interviews were preliminary, and that Tsarnaev’s account needs to be checked out and followed up on by investigators.

That is, he might be lying about being motivated by Islam.

And a federal law enforcement official told CNN that while investigators have seen nothing yet to indicate the suspects were working with anyone else, plenty of work remains before they can say confidently that no others were involved. That official would not comment on any motive or specifics on what Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has communicated to officials…

Again, let’s ignore the fact that Tamerlan had just spent six months in the terrorist hotbed of Dagestan, where the local police say he met with an underground militant six times.

While Tamerlan Tsarnaev apparently became increasingly radical in the past three or four years, according to an analysis of his social media accounts and the recollections of family members, there was no evidence Monday that he had any active association with international jihadist groups…

Except for the report from the Dagestan police, who said he met with an underground militant at least six times. And except for the fact that the Russians warned our government twice that he was a terrorist.

I am staggered the federal government of the United States I grew up in could so blatantly be for …. something unrevealed to we, the Citizens. Washington is up to something utterly foreign to us. Washington is not part of America anymore. Washington is every day revealing itself as the true enemy of the Constitution and Law Abiding citizens.

For those with an inch-deep understanding of the War of Yankee Aggression this is exactly what that War was all about. My rebel Southern ancestors KNEW what Washington would become if unchecked. They not only stood up to it, they went after it.

    Enjoy your Win, Unionistas.

Now they have tweets of the younger brother Dzhokhar Tsarnaev prior to bombing bragging about about being a rebel with a cause and ready to fight for what he believed in.

I wish CNN would stop showing different photos of a much younger Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
