How anyone can equate an individual choice to be stupid (and dead) with a forced ‘compliance’ with ‘religious’ rules ‘interpreted’ by the local ‘religious’ leaders – is beyond me.

If you scroll down a bit there’s an article on there stating that the root of the two words is different in Arabic.

What struck me in particular was the cutting themselves as a form of worship, it reminded me of Ba’al worship, again from pre-babylonian exile Israel (and Judah!). Exemplified in 1 Kings chapter 18 when the priests of Ba’al face off against Elijah, who was the only prophet of God at the time in Israel.

Pay special attention to verses 15-29, especially verse 28:

“28 So they shouted louder and slashed themselves with swords and spears, as was their custom, until their blood flowed.”

The hypocrisy of the media is astounding. “Pallywood” (Palestinian media) broadcasts any wounded child on cue to vindicate Hamas’ hatred of Israel but the same media are silent on kids who are ritualistically cut open in the name of Islam and its martyrs. Such hypocrisy.

I do believe we’ve wasted our efforts in Afghanistan. These people won’t change unless they aim for something higher than slicing open the locals.

My 2-year-old fell the other day and bumped his head. I was heartbroken to see him cry, even if he got over it and resumed playing rather quickly. And, when he was a little baby, I clipped his fingertip with a nail clippers and he bled. I cried for an hour afterward.

So don’t tell me my culture is no better than this. MY culture loves children and protects them from all harm. We don’t cut their heads with razors and let them bleed.

And… on uninformed and simplistic face value, the ignorant could tether parallels; (as the mainstream media may do) but in reality the two are nearly the antithesis of each other.
