Oh, That Obstreperous Senator Bunning

From Fox News:

Bunning Clashes on Camera With ABC Reporter Over Jobless Benefits Bill

March 2, 2010

Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning got into it Monday with an ABC News reporter  who tried to corner him in the elevator with questions about his opposition to an unpaid stopgap bill extending jobless benefits.

Somebody call in the umpire.

Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning, a Baseball Hall of Famer, got into it Monday with an ABC News reporter who tried to corner him in an elevator with questions about his opposition to an unpaid stopgap bill extending jobless benefits.

According to ABC News, Bunning initially responded to the questions by flipping the bird to ABC’s Senate producer. Then, when the cameras started rolling, the Republican senator quickly showed frustration with ABC correspondent Jonathan Karl as he tried to use an elevator in the Hart Senate Office Building.

"Excuse me. This is a senator-only elevator," he informed the reporter.

Bunning refused to let Karl on board or answer questions about his reasons for blocking the bill.

"Excuse me!" the senator said, raising his voice as another reporter showed up. "I’ve got to go to the floor."

After another couple questions, the door closed.

Bunning has said he was blocking the $10 billion measure out of concern that it would increase deficit spending. Senate Democrats were getting around Bunning’s objections by moving this week to deal with a permanent, more expensive version of the bill.

Never mind that Mr. Bunning has explained until he is blue in the face that he is actually for passing the items in the bill. He is just trying to get Congress to allocate the $10 billion dollars the legislation is estimated to cost, as they are now required to do by the recently passed PAYGO legislation.

The money could come from the unspent ‘stimulus bill,’ but the Democrats want to keep that money to buy votes in a more direct fashion.

By the way, a Google search for ‘Bunning AND angry’ nets 72,200 results. Meanwhile, a Google search for ‘Bunning AND paygo’ nets 15,400 results.

Isn’t our watchdog media wonderful?

But whereas our media can’t report Mr. Bunning’s “anger” enough, there have been no reports in our national media about the bomb threats (two of them at least) Mr. Bunning has gotten for trying to enforce legislation that the Democrats in Congress passed and Mr. Obama signed just a week ago.

From the local Lexington, Kentucky ABC affiliate, WTVQ:

Bomb Threat At Bunning’s Hazard Office

Saturday, 27 February 2010

Friday afternoon state police took a phone call from the FBI after a threat had been made at the William D. Gormam Educational Center in Hazard.

The center houses the offices of U.S. Senator Jim Bunning and Congressman Hal Rogers.

According to officials working the investigation, the threat was that an explosive device or devices had allegedly been placed at the educational center.

A threat had also been made at Senator Bunning’s Office in Louisville.

KSP responded to the call in Hazard, evacuated the premises and notified canin [sic] to a search [sic] of the area.

Investigators say at this time, nothing has been located.

Somehow this story never made it out of the local media.

Why is that?

If I were him, I would change my mind about retiring, and give the finger to the libwits that way.

Japanese, or should I say, Democrat Proverb … nail that sticks out will be hammered down.

GBJ: Yes, just so. It is the heroic man for whom the vermin of Big Media bring forth their special malice, their moralic acid.

I just saw, on Drudge, where winter is now responsible for increased job loss. Convenient? Too hot to hire in the summer is coming our way…

  4. NoNeoCommies says:

    Just like the healthcare debate.

The media won’t report on all of the proposals and ideas that Republicnas have offered, but they will play sound bites from Libs and the Prez claiming the Conservatives are only saying NO.

They don’t care if Bunning explains himself.
That is not the information they think the Sheeple should know.

  5. Tater Salad says:

Looks like the Senator is the “only” true Senator with some balls these days. Obama got this “slush fund” from the stimulus still sitting there and the Progressives won”t even touch that money. They are the hypocrits!

  6. U NO HOO says:

Business as usual…shouldn’t federal employee payroll already be appropriated, or whatever the correct word is, for this year?

Shouldn’t un employment funds be in a separate “emergency” bill?

Rush just had a transportation employee who said, more or less, that when she isn’t working maybe she isn’t wasting money.

  7. Chuckk says:

A Republican with balls. He is an endangered species for sure.

    Just a side note:

With Mr. Bunning in the Hall of Fame, perhaps some consideration should be given to the possible Hall of Fame credentials of Jim Kaat. Their statistics are similar.
