OR Got $5M Bonus For Food Stamp Sign Ups

From Judicial Watch:

State Gets $5 Mil Bonus For Food Stamp Sign Up

Thu, 09/29/2011

In its quest to promote taxpayer-funded entitlement programs, the Obama Administration has actually rewarded one state with a $5 million bonus for its efficiency in adding food-stamp recipients to already bulging rolls.

It’s part of the administration’s campaign to eradicate “food insecure households” by improving access and increasing participation in the government’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)…

Just a few months ago the federal agency that administers the program, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), launched a multi-million-dollar initiative to recruit more food-stamp participants even though the number of recipients has skyrocketed in the last few years.

This week Oregon officials bragged that the USDA has given the state $5 million in “performance bonuses” for ensuring that people eligible for food benefits receive them and for its “swift processing of applications.” The money comes on the heels of a separate $1.5 million award from the feds for making “accurate payments of food stamp benefits to clients.”

It marks the fifth consecutive year that Oregon has been “recognized” by the federal government for “exceptional administration” of the entitlement program, according to the announcement posted on the state’s Department of Human Services web site. The state official who runs SNAP assures that her staff will “continue working very hard to exceed expectations” so that Oregonians can “put healthy foods on their table quickly.”

Since 2008 the state has seen a 60% boost in the number of food-stamp recipients, which means that more than 780,000 people (one out of five Oregonians) get groceries compliments of Uncle Sam.

That increase is just a coincidence, surely. But hopefully, if they redouble their efforts, they may be able to have an impact on the 2012 elections.

As if this weren’t bad enough, the feds are also giving the state a two-year grant to test an “innovative approach” to the food-stamp “client eligibility review process.” This will make it even easier for people to get food stamps because it grants state officials a waiver that allows them to grant the benefit without interviewing the candidate.

Why not? After all, who would lie about needing free food?

Sooner or later, you run out of other people’s money.

    Thank you Maggie Thatcher.

When the money does run out, we will see the pitchforks and torches come for those who still have food, which will be party leaders….ie: “royalty”. But the poor guy who has a small, personally run farm with a couple hogs and a cow and some fields for plowing will get ransacked and murdered first.

It’s coming. It’s just staggeringly odd that we are lagging a few decades behind Europe, and doubly noteworthy that socialism’s glow-in-the-dark failure there is ignored by the “smartest people” here in the US.

I still firmly believe that we, the masses, are held hostage by the previous generation of hippies who still believe that socialism/communism is the answer. And the fact that it’s failing here has no noticeable effect on their staunch belief in their ideology. Rush said this yesterday.

They will hang every person in their party for “failure” to do this or that before they ever stop believing in socialism. Because at their very core, they would then have to realize that there is something wrong with themselves and that their very mind has something wrong with it. Therein is the basis for their stubbornness and their petulance. They are convinced they are right and cannot imagine themselves being wrong.

If you’ve ever been to Portland you will see able-bodied young people sitting, laying, panhandling all over the streets. Typical liberal city with misplaced “compassion” and a lack of understanding as to what the human soul really needs in the way of self-respect and self-reliance. All part of the Obama Administration Saul Alinsky Plan. Can’t urge Conservatives enough to read “Rules For Radicals” to discover the blueprint which Oby is following to a T.

More proof that the Alien in the Black Ops House and his minions are implementing the classic Saul Alinsky/Cloward & Pivin/Marxist plan for overloading social services until they break down. Then, just as in Greece, Portugal, Italy, and Spain, mobs of unhappy dependents will demonstrate to topple their governments.

The resulting chaos will bring tyranny. And Americans will have nobody to blame but themselves.

I cannot think of a job any easier than giving other people’s money away. You would think they could at least be more innovative to earn the multi-million dollar bonus.

For instance, why not use helicopters to disperse the food stamps? I imagine the wash from the rotors could spread the SNAP booty over several city blocks with ease. An entire city could be supplementally nourished in a matter of hours. There are an endless number of ways to make government more efficient.

I used to wonder if it was deliberate or if they were just stupid. not any more. Many of the usefull idiots are just that, but the leaders have to know. The more they borrow, print and spend the worse the economy gets and yet they can’t seem to spend enough. It’s a race to the finish line (2014) can they destroy us before then?

  6. David says:

It takes more than just enrolling more people. The plan to get more people eligible has been much longer term here. Years of liberal governance have given us a 9.5% unemployment (except for Portland the two university towns, every thing else is closer to 10-15%). Also as one who has been on food stamps here, it takes about 15 minutes of your time. You set up an appointment, provide a bank statement, sign a form and you walk out with the ebt card. I don’t see how it could get any more streamlined and have even a hint of legitimate means testing.

  7. Mithrandir says:

If you want more of something, subsidize it.

When you punish those drilling for oil, block all attempts to find our own natural resources, punish Boeing for trying to build a new site, sue states for their immigration reforms, spend money we don’t have, tax and regulate people to death, reward states who practice dependency……the only conclusion is that all of this is to destroy our country. No sane person would do such things.
