Pakistan Now Ahead Of India In Nukes

From a mildly conflicted Washington Post:

Pakistan doubles its nuclear arsenal

Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal now totals more than 100 deployed weapons, a doubling of its stockpile over the past several years in one of the world’s most unstable regions, according to estimates by nongovernment analysts.

The Pakistanis have significantly accelerated production of uranium and plutonium for bombs and developed new weapons to deliver them. After years of approximate weapons parity, experts said, Pakistan has now edged ahead of India, its nuclear-armed rival.

How wonderful. It seems like only yesterday we didn’t even know they had a nuclear program. Thanks goodness, the UN’s IAEA has clamped down on nuclear proliferation.

An escalation of the arms race in South Asia poses a dilemma for the Obama administration, which has worked to improve its economic, political and defense ties with India while seeking to deepen its relationship with Pakistan as a crucial component of its Afghanistan war strategy.

In politically fragile Pakistan, the administration is caught between fears of proliferation or possible terrorist attempts to seize nuclear materials and Pakistani suspicions that the United States aims to control or limit its weapons program and favors India

Luckily we have an expert on the country in the White House, who even knows that it should be pronounced ‘Pockeestahn.’ …

By the way, Mr. Obama stated during his 2004 campaign for the Senate that the US would have to destroy Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal if there were any risk of terrorists getting their hands on it.

Funny how we don’t hear that kind of talk now that he is President.

"The administration is always trying to keep people from talking about this knowledgeably," said David Albright, president of the Institute for Science and International Security and a leading analyst on the world’s nuclear forces. "They’re always trying to downplay" the numbers and insisting that "it’s smaller than you think."

Four years ago, the Pakistani arsenal was estimated at 30 to 60 weapons.

"They have been expanding pretty rapidly," Albright said. Based on recently accelerated production of plutonium and highly enriched uranium, "they could have more than doubled in that period," with current estimates of up to 110 weapons

All this despite the fact that Mr. Obama is such a champion of reducing nuclear weapons.

Some Pakistani officials have intimated they have even more. But just as the United States has a vested interest in publicly playing down the total, Pakistan sees advantage in "playing up the number of weapons they’ve got," Gregory said. "They’re at a disadvantage with India with conventional forces," in terms of both weaponry and personnel.

How is it in America’s interest to ignore reality? Granted, it might be in Mr. Obama’s political interest to do so.

Only three nuclear countries – Pakistan, India and Israel – have never signed the Non-Proliferation Treaty. India is estimated to have 60 to 100 weapons; numbers are even less precise for Israel’s undeclared program, estimated at up to 200. North Korea, which has conducted nuclear tests and is believed to have produced enough fissile material for at least a half-dozen bombs, withdrew from the treaty in 2003.

Those figures make Pakistan the world’s fifth-largest nuclear power, ahead of "legal" powers France and Britain. The vast bulk of nuclear stockpiles are held by the United States and Russia, followed by China.

While Pakistan has no declared nuclear doctrine, it sees its arsenal as a deterrent to an attack by the Indian forces that are heavily deployed near its border

How else can they hold off those extremist Hindu hordes who are hell-bent on taking over the world?

I think we should allow everyone to carry their own nuke. That would reestablish the balance of terror. As Dr. Phil says, “How’s that nuke control working out for ya?”

After all, nukes don’t kill people; people do. When nukes are outlawed, only outlaws will have nukes!

If we give ours up, they will too. It’s the only possible soluiton….other than higher taxes.

In spite of the 2009 $7.5 billion aid package for Pakistan legislation stipulating regular assessment of whether any money is spend directly or indirectly on Pakistan’s nuclear program, Pakistan’s deployed nuclear weapons are estimated to have cross 100, and there has been an increase in plutonium production according to some reports.

I don’t know, I’m kind of two minds on this one.

On one hand, as long as the fallout doesn’t reach over here if India and Pockystan want to duke it out with nukes it could be a good thing in the long run. I mean we could get back all those out-sourced jobs for computer tech support plus we might just have to start producing our own clothes again.

On the down side, some of our troops in Afghanistan might get some rads they don’t need.

I have been assured by published report after published report that it is our very own Special Forces operators who guard Pakistan’s nuclear weapons.

So that brings up an intriguing question, and altogether disturbing question in two parts –

Have the press been lying to us about this protection?

Or, are the press lying now?

Because I can’t buy our men overseeing a doubling of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons, which will surely be aimed at India and Israel.

I think that whole ‘radiation poisoning’ thing is way over-rated. I mean, you get a nice tan from it, unless you’re, like, standing near it.

“, a doubling of its stockpile over the past several years”

Pakistan who danced in the streets after 9/11 receiving all that money from Obama via John Kerry.

Obama’s audience at his Cairo speech were muslims. They cheered when he said he went to a muslim school and learned the Koran.

Obama’s long time friend Farrakhan’s has been mentioning in his Final Call newspaper that Obama wrote he used buy and read is saying that the American people will “revolt” over Obama’s new food regulations. And that Black farmers must get as much money as they can through the Georgia suit. Farrakhan uses the term “desert stores” just like Michelle has been calling them for 2 years.

Farrakhan recently announced in the Final Call, he’s looking to buy 1 Million acres of land.

And to think how Muushariff crapped himself when Cheney promised to bomb him back to the stone age if he didn’t play ball.

Gives you pause on US power when it’s backed with resolve, huh?

    Who’s Next

    By Tom Lehrer ca:1965

One of the big news items of the past year concerned the fact that China, which we called “Red China,” exploded a nuclear bomb, which we called a device. Then Indonesia announced that it was going to have one soon, and proliferation became the word of the day. Here’s a song about that:

First we got the bomb, and that was good,
‘Cause we love peace and motherhood.
Then Russia got the bomb, but that’s okay,
‘Cause the balance of power’s maintained that way.
    Who’s next?

France got the bomb, but don’t you grieve,
‘Cause they’re on our side (I believe).
China got the bomb, but have no fears,
They can’t wipe us out for at least five years.
    Who’s next?

    Then Indonesia claimed that they
Were gonna get one any day.
South Africa wants two, that’s right:
One for the black and one for the white.
    Who’s next?

    Egypt’s gonna get one too,
Just to use on you know who.
    So Israel’s getting tense.
    Wants one in self defense.
“The Lord’s our shepherd,” says the psalm,
But just in case, we better get a bomb.
    Who’s next?

    Luxembourg is next to go,
    And (who knows?) maybe Monaco.
We’ll try to stay serene and calm
    When Alabama gets the bomb.
    Who’s next?
    Who’s next?
    Who’s next?
    Who’s next?
