Pelosi: GOP Has Hijacked The ‘Tea Party’

From from her starry-eyed fans at the Associated Press:

Pelosi says GOP has hijacked ‘tea party’ movement

Sun Feb 28

WASHINGTON – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is questioning whether the conservative "tea party" coalition truly represents a grass-roots movement.

In a broadcast interview, Pelosi calls tea party voters the "astroturf" movement. She says many of those voters have good intentions but that the Republican Party has hijacked the movement for its gain.

The San Francisco Democrat says the tea party coalition shares some common ground with Democrats, such as their dislike of special interests in Washington. She cited public disdain for the recent Supreme Court ruling on campaign finance that allows companies and unions to spend freely on ads that promote or target particular candidates by name.

Pelosi spoke in an interview with ABC’s "This Week" that was airing Sunday…

How can an “astroturf movement” have “good intentions”? How can you “hijack” an “astroturf movement”?

We would say that Ms. Pelosi is confused, but this is at least the second time that Madame Speaker has called the tea party an “astroturf” movement.

She really needs to be enlightened by David Axelrod.

For as we have noted before, “astroturfing” was actually invented by none other than Mr. Axelrod:

From the March 14, 2008 edition of Business Week:

The Secret Side of David Axelrod

The Obama campaign’s chief strategist is a master of "Astroturfing" and has a second firm that shapes public opinion for corporations

By Howard Wolinsky

David Axelrod has long been known for his political magic. Through his AKP&D Message & Media consultancy, the campaign veteran has advised a succession of Democratic candidates since 1985, and he’s now chief strategist for Senator Barack Obama’s bid for President. But on the down low, Axelrod moonlights in the private sector.

From the same address in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, Axelrod operates a second business, ASK Public Strategies, that discreetly plots strategy and advertising campaigns for corporate clients to tilt public opinion their way. He and his partners consider virtually everything about ASK to be top secret, from its client roster and revenue to even the number of its employees. But customers and public records confirm that it has quarterbacked campaigns for the Chicago Children’s Museum, ComEd, Cablevision, and AT&T.

ASK’s predilection for operating in the shadows shows up in its work. On behalf of ComEd and Comcast, the firm helped set up front organizations that were listed as sponsors of public-issue ads. Industry insiders call such practices "Astroturfing," a reference to manufacturing grassroots support. Alderman Brendan Reilly of the 42nd Ward, who has been battling the Children’s Museum’s relocation plans, describes ASK as "the gold standard in Astroturf organizing. This is an emerging industry, and ASK has made a name for itself in shaping public opinion and manufacturing public support."

And Mr. Axelrod’s company (AKP&D Message & Media Consultancy) still practices the black art.

Indeed, Obama For America and now Organizing For America are the very epitome of “astroturfing.” And they are paid for by the Democrat party.

But of course they are exactly the opposite of the tea party movement.

Still, we guess we should be grateful that Ms. Pelosi managed to talk about the tea party without accusing them of carrying swastikaas [sic] around. For once.

By the way, did anyone at ABC’s “This Week” ask how her swamp draining is going?

Some more rosy B.S. from the woman who related tea party protesters to Nazis and astroturf.

In reality there are many, citizens who are concerned about off the wall spending, growth of the federal government, and the massive changes proposed to the country’s health care system.

But at least she didn’t connect the movement to her favorite homosexual act.

Shall I give a liberal credit each time they avoid using the term “teabagging” to describe us, is that how low their political discourse has sunk?

  2. proreason says:

You were right the first time Steve. Pelosi is confused.

    Most stupid people are.

How can this have happened to our country?

We thought it was enough to live lives of honor, serve in the military, participate on juries, pay taxes and talk about the issues of the day with friends and acquaintances. We didn’t think it was playing a game. We were living our lives.

Meanwhile, they saw it as a situation they could sieze upon to implement thier idiotic and depraved view of how life should be. They were angry and dull, but no so dull that they couldn’t read the manifestos of a few truly evil leaders and follow them.

Now look where we are at.

Waking up. It won’t be long before everyone begins to crack an eye and rub the sleep away.

I just hope it won’t be too late.

Good comment pro. That’s how I feel. Seems like yesterday, even if we didn’t like what was happening in Washington, we knew we were safe, and our reps in Washington didn’t try to go too far before someone would pull them back toward the sanity.

Not so today. We have the enemy in power. We need to shake everyone until they wake up. Tell them and show them what the heck is going on…even if they don’t seem to have a clue or a brain cell. They have a vote…we have to get them educated and wise to this bunch.

Another example of democrapic sh** throwing on a wall to see what sticks.

My guess is Tea Partiers must be a very real threat to the left for princess p to continually bring it up. My gosh, what will the left wing loons do when the majority of Americans put a stop to all their shenanigans (read failed policies and arrogance)? (rhetorical)

  4. Proof says:

Between the astroturf of “Ellie Light” and Radio.barackobama, these people have a lot of gall to accuse anyone else of “astroturfing”!

    • jobeth says:

That’s why they know so much about it!

Never heard that term before Pelosi used it, but it seems its an really old trick of the progressives.

Like the term teabaggers.I had no idea what it meant either..

But then I don’t hang around in gutters or smoky back rooms. Seems they do.

She is a San Fransicko, jobeth.

LD, oddly (for me) she is the daughter of a Baltimore Mayor. She must have been living there when I did. Odd how the same area can produce such different beings!

  5. U NO HOO says:

Yeah, I never heard of “astroturfing” or “teabagging” until perverted progressives mentioned it.

“quarterbacked campaigns for the Chicago Children’s Museum, ComEd, Cablevision, and AT&T” Didn’t GM’s new prez or ceo or coo or whatever come from AT&T?

…..”did anyone at ABC’s “This Week” ask how her swamp draining is going?…..”

I got a chuckle out of this line. It brought to mind a joke that said; “When you’re up to your ass in alligators, it’s difficult to remind one’s self that the initial objective was to drain the swamp.”

    Perfect fit! ;-}

    • Confucius says:

      What is this swamp reference?

    • JohnMG says:

      Allow me, Confucius.

Pelosi & Co. campaigned on a platform that they (Dems) would end the “culture of corruption, etc” that was the Bush administration, thus cleaning up the swamp. The swamp refers to the whole of the District of Columbia but specifically the area of the District that was set aside to become the nations Capitol seat.

When trying to procure land for the new government’s buildings, only the most undesirable parcels could be afforded on the funds which were appropriated for the purpose, and the land that was purchased was reclaimed, literally, from the swamps by filling them in. It took many years for the White House to be completed, and it was uninhabitable at one point due to swarms of mosquitos and other nuisance critters. Raw sewage spilled out upon the grounds, drainage wasn’t effective, and during wet periods the surrounding areas remained boggy for weeks and weeks. Proper roads couldn’t be built, so many of them were impassable during certain times of the year. It was somewhat of an embarrasment.

All this was before our government discovered they could extort vulgar sums of money from the populace. Or rather, should I say, at a time when the populace would rise up in righteous fury if they had tried.

So, the “swamp” reference has a somewhat double entendere in this context. Either way, the joke is still funny, especially as applied to the ‘Botox Babe’.

    • jobeth says:

John, you realize that could NEVER happen today.

Try touching a wet land now and see how fast you are fined or serve a little jail time.

Especially if the exotic widgimedoodle mosquito was found to lay their ‘endangered’ little eggs there.

Just think, if the greenies existed back then there would be no Washington DC or Capital Building.

    • JohnMG says:

…..” if the greenies existed back then there would be no Washington DC or Capital Building…..”

      And that would be bad?????? How, exactly??!!! ;-}

    • jobeth says:

Ummm, excellent point. I shoulda thunk ….

    • saccharin says:

      Excellent lesson, JohnMG. Thanks.

David Axlerod, wasn’t able to scoop away all the dirt off Obama’s voting record turf, such as the vote against a criminal law bill that would have stiffened penalties for drug dealing in school.
Obama didn’t want to harm those that aided his own drug use in schools.

Axlerod was able wipe the astro-turf of Obama’s dirty “no” vote aginst a bill to protect our children from sex offenders.
Obama didn’t want to harm sex offenders his church administered to. Pedophiles needed ministering, not jail.

David Axlerod smiled to Obama, clapping him on the back as he told him to cheer-up. Obama gave magic Axlerod the credit for the cleaning off the astro-turf of the dirty little sex-offender ‘no’ vote.

  9. Mithrandir says:

Don’t be outraged, this ‘woman’ has not a shred of credibility to her name. She is just an affirmative action hire from the Democratic party, the same as Obama is, and Geraldine Ferraro was, along with Hillary Clinton. They have no talent, but just a face for their diversity philosophy.

I am convinced that if you crack open Pelosi’s outter hull, you will find wires, a speaker, and a computer chip programed to say exactly the opposite of what Republicans say. In electronics, it’s a simple NOT gate, the input is 1, the output is 0, input 0 output 1.

She is just a blathering faulty circuit on a constant loop.
