Pelosi Says: Jail For No Insurance Is Fair

In the rush of events we almost neglected this telling exchange between Shomari Stone, a reporter Komo 4 News (the Seattle ABC affiliate) and Speaker Pelosi:

Stone: Do you think it’s fair to send people to jail who don’t buy health insurance?

Pelosi: … The legislation is very fair in this respect.

Apparently, Ms. Pelosi began to have second thoughts about her admission.

According to the YouTube uploader, who appears to be Mr. Stone himself:

The Office of Speaker Nancy Pelosi released this information in an email to Shomari Stone about an hour after the news conference:

"Reform includes a shared responsibility requirement, for those who don’t already have insurance to either purchase affordable health insurance or pay a fee of 2.5 percent of their income so they are not driving up everyone else’s health costs.

Under the bill, the only people who would face the fee for not purchasing insurance are those who can truly afford to purchase such insurance.

For those who can afford insurance but for some reason do not purchase it, they simply pay the fee a fee designed to cover their costs when they use the health care system. For a small number of people who might refuse to pay the fee, it is important to remember that, in the majority of cases, the IRS which will enforce the insurance requirement uses the CIVIL process to settle delinquent penalties and taxes.

It would only be in extremely rare circumstances that criminal prosecutions of any kind would be pursued. Indeed, in 2008, there were 156 million individual tax returns filed in the United States. Out of all of those 156 million returns, there were only 100 criminal prosecutions for willful failure to pay taxes and only for the most egregious examples of those who willfully defraud the system."

You see, there is nothing to worry about.

Having the IRS after you is no real big deal. (Never mind that, unlike under the rest of our judicial system, with the IRS you are presumed to be guilty until you can prove yourself innocent.)

Besides, the odds of going to jail for this are very low. They just want to put the threat of jail in the law for a lark.

But just try to get that language removed.

The irony here is the person jailed for not having a health plan will receive better medical care in prison than they would outside “the joint” under PelosiCare. The joke in Canada is “did you hear Harry went to jail for robbing a bank?”. Punchline: “He needed a new hip”.

      Or an H1N1 shot.

Amazing how Gitmo inmates receive priority over the American public as, by the CDC’s own guidelines, none of the inmates there are either pregnant women or young children.

Some may have chronic health conditions, but Americans in areas that have vaccine are currently being denied it in favor of the pregnant women and children.

      Yet the media remains silent.

  2. BillK says:

I love how she calls it:

a fee designed to cover their costs when they use the health care system

Funny, that used to be what physicians billed for…

  3. Yarddog1 says:

How about “jail for no brain” ( the condition from which Pelosi suffers).

  4. Reality Bytes says:

What’s the plan Pelosi? Cage us all like Veal so as to save us from ourselves?!

Who Determines Who Can Afford It? Will there be an affirmative action approach to the equation?

BTW – You don’t need auto insurance to have a driver’s license! THEY LIE!!!

I have a motorcycle license but don’t have insurance…don’t worry I’m not breaking the law – it’s just that I’m married & have a kid so the VFR is collecting dust & cat hair sitting on its wheel stand in the garage.

  5. 64dodger says:

Does that mean we can arrest and put in jail illegal aliens at the steps of the emergency room.

  6. Petronius says:

Why stop at jail for the uninsured?

    Why not use waterboarding?

  7. proreason says:

Weren’t there penalties for not complying with the government’s edicts under Stalin as well?

Lucky for us, we have a benevolent grandma like Stretch to protect us from bad things.

Even when she has to kill us to do it.

  8. Reality Bytes says:

Sorry, Stench Pelosi is disrespectful – not like calling concerned taxpayers Nazis, but close. I’m better than that. How about Ming The Merciless? Maybe they’re related? They look like they have the same plastic suregon – take a look – what do you think?

They both like red don’t they? Hmmm.

  9. Liberals Demise says:

You can release the criminals from jail now so you’ll have room for us “NON” conformers.
Come and get me because I won’t be giving you one DAMN dime of mine. Bring lots of Jackboots and bags.
    (I won’t go without a struggle)

  10. proreason says:

I know I’ve averaged less than $1,000 (in today’s dollars) per year in medical care during my life.

I’ve paid an average of (at least) $4,000 per year in health insurance. I wouldn’t have a care in the world if I had saved that money instead of buying the insurance.

Now they are going to put me in jail if I don’t pay about $7,500 per year.

I think there is going to be a lot of violence if they try to enforce that.

…….”Indeed, in 2008, there were 156 million individual tax returns filed in the United States. Out of all of those 156 million returns, there were only 100 criminal prosecutions for willful failure to pay taxes”……

And not a single one of the one hundred who were prosecuted was a member of the Obama administration. Why is that? There are more admitted tax-cheats, per-capita, working for the Moron than anywhere else in the country.

Our “Plastic Fantastic Speaker” must have had another type of operation as well. It takes a huge pair of brass ones to make a statement like that.

  12. VMAN says:

Do you have a nice little insurance policy you’re very happy with? SORRY it doesn’t meet Federal guidelines. Instead of that relatively cheap policy you have to buy the government approved bloated policy. Can’t afford it? Well you could apply for Federal health care. Oh sorry you make too much money and we see that you own your own home. So you can’t afford the the bloated policy required by the government and you don’t qualify for federal health care. Hmm that is a problem. I guess you go to jail where you will have the best of health care. It’s a win win.

  13. canary says:

Put the poor people in jail, make them lose their jobs, and pay jail fees, is really going to help. At least they’ll get free medical exams and treatment.

Van Jones said we need to let the ‘man mad’ thugs out of jail and give them voting rights.

Is this why Obama gave all that stimulous money to Indians to build jails? Poor people will end up on Indian reservations doing slave work?

  14. joeblough says:

Pelosi is a flat out Nazi.

For my own part, I say that jail for Pelosi is fair.

But not anyplace really nice like Guantanamo.

  15. sheehanjihad says:

There will not be enough room in all of the jails and prisons put together in this entire country to incarcerate people who arent going to “pay the fine” for not getting insurance from the government.

In case it got by that wrinkled snag bag ‘d douche, what the Obama administration proposes, regardless of all of their legislative power, is flat out unconstitutional.

The only way the “jail option” will succeed is if the American people vote to ratify the constitution and ask to be jailed for non compliance. Nancy is comfortable in thinking that people arent aware of that huge obvious violation of our constitutional rights.

She is probably making the large mistake of thinking that we have the same mindset of her voters and minions under her thumb in Congress. She, as ususal, has no clue what she is up against with those of us who retain a working knowledge of our constitution, and will fight to retain it.

Pelosi is used to drugged out slobs and foaming at the mouth leftists who stroke her fragile ego constantly like one of those huge fat queen termites……only she pumps out millions of stupid attempts at control instead of eggs….but both have the same goal in mind…..to create armies of mindless drones who work tirelessly to serve her needs.

Sorry you tubby shriveled up giraffe anus…..speaker of the house doesnt mean speaker for the citizenry!!! Keep your suitcases handy you empty headed useless shrew…..you will be flying home economy.

  16. 12 Gauge Rage says:

SJ, you nailed it. This whole health care plan to fine and jail the non-conformists is almost like a throwback to medieval times in which the poor, unable to pay taxes were thrown into a debtor’s prison. Some would say I’m really reaching here but back then as it is now, it’s all about power and control over other people’s lives.

  17. beautyofreason says:

So an illegal immigrant could conceivably get free public health care without supporting the system.

But if an average American chooses not to have health insurance for any reason (that includes millions of us), we risk a $250,000 fine or 5 years in jail.

I thought this country was land of the free?
And that our bodies were our own?

  18. Khiri says:

“…unlike under the rest of our judicial system…”

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the rest of the judicial system works that way, too. Too often it’s “Guilty, just in case.” It’s not about the truth anymore.

    • Liberals Demise says:

O.J. Simpson knows this all to well.
$$$$$$ got him off a murder charge (guilty) but no $$$$$$ got him accused of assault and kidnapping (Guilty).

Now …… what was your point?

  19. BigOil says:

Applying Pelosi’s brilliant logic – about 40% of Americans should be in jail.

Everyone that does not pay federal income tax has been unjustly receiving government services and benefits at the expense of those of us that pay taxes. It is time for some equity and fairness. Lock up the free-loaders democrats.

  20. U NO HOO says:

I received an email saying there is an email floating around that says it contains a nude photo of Pelosi.

Don’t open it, it contains a nude photo of Pelosi.

  21. Tater Salad says:

“Jail for Pelosi is Fair” is the actual way this should read!

  22. U NO HOO says:

What if we all refused to have health insurance and went to jail, wouldn’t they have to treat us in jail for free?
