Pelosi Plans To Demonize Insurance Biz

From her fans at the Politico:

Nancy Pelosi outlines August plan of attack

By: David Rogers
July 31, 2009

Speaker Nancy Pelosi outlined a doubled-edged message for selling health care reform in August: one part pro-consumer and the second, attacking the health insurance industry with the same passion she took on George W. Bush’s Social Security privatization plans four years ago.

“The glory days are coming to an end for the health insurance industry in our country,” Pelosi told reporters Friday afternoon.

“This is about inoculating against misrepresentations and educating about what is in the bill,” she said. “We all want bipartisanship…but you’re either with the insurance companies or you’re for something new.”

“We know what we are going to be up against,” the speaker said. “We have no illusions about what they are willing to do and how much they want to misrepresent.”

“Health Insurance Reform To Hold Insurance Companies Accountable” is the title of pocket cards issued to Democratic members going home for the recess

She appears committed to bringing out a final bill costing below $1 trillion and is openly looking for alternatives to the House Ways and Means Committee strategy of relying heavily on a surcharge for the wealthy.

The pocket cards pointedly make no mention of the surcharge, and Democrats appear to have considered—and then rejected—a strategy of using the cards to individualize for each member’s district, how many people would gain coverage vs. how many would be impacted by the added tax.

“Say in my district, uninsured are 75,000 people,” Pelosi said speaking of her base in the San Francisco area. “One small percentage of that would be paying the surcharge.”

“The pay-for’s are not resolved,” she said. “We are still trying to squeeze as much cost out of the system as possible… We will certainly be below 50% of what’s needed to pay for the bill.” …

What a world.

Big Oil, Big Pharma – and now Big Insurance.

“We all want bipartisanship…but you’re either with the insurance companies or you’re for something new.”

Didn’t Mr. Bush get lambasted for saying something like that about terrorists?

Of course terrorists aren’t as hateful as damned insurance companies.

    “Bipartisanship?”

Nancy wouldn’t know the meaning of the word if it kicked her between the legs!
    NO SCRUPLES!!

Looks like they forgot to give one to Tim Bishop of NY. There are videos of him on YouTube gettting his hat handed to him by the angry taxpayers at his Townhall meeting. If you have not seen it, there are 2 parts to it (not the one of the big crowd outside the Townhall meeting in protest). There are other videos of Democrats (Boyd) sneaking out a side door to avoid a crowd of protesters and (McCaskill) getting roasted by her town hall. A great one shows an aide to Chuck Schumer kicking people out of his office because they brought a video camera with them that showed taxpayers standing outside of his office, unable to get in to speak their mind. What good are these pocket cards going to do when the Obamacrats are either too scared to face their voters or have nothing to fall back on once they finish reading their cards.

Nancy is a day late and a dollar short for her plans to attack the Insurance companies because there are a lot more informed people out who know better. Well, can’t speak for the kool-aid drinkers who will lap up whatever she says.

Stretch hating Insurance Companies is enough to make me love em.

And I’ve hated Insurance Companies for the last 30 years.

But if I have to pick between Satan and a petty pickpocket, I’ll go with the pickpocket every time..

  4. catie says:

Hmmh, of course old Botox Nancy will make sure she has some nice little health insurance policy somewhere to take of her spawns, their spawns and that husband of hers.
Well my only solace about any of these people, including the messiah is that they’ll probably be in hell one day when they have been sent down the hospice chute.

  5. U NO HOO says:

Think of Pelosi and her ilk as our cross to bear to get into heaven.

  6. curvyred says:

They realize they are losing ground – it happened much quicker than I thought it would.

  7. neocon mom says:

Seems right out of the ‘ol dumb populism playbook to me.
Insurance companies are problematic only because patients and doctors have delegated so much of the consumer/ provider relationship directly to them. But if it becomes a bureaucratic nightmare we can always negotiate with a provider on our own terms. I’d take that over having to get a back-alley hip replacement any day of the week.

  8. Colonel1961 says:

Insurance company profits are what – 10%? 12%? What would the government burden be? Inefficiencies alone would be at least 30%…

It’s a sad affair the stupidity of the common citizen. As someone noted the other day – name me one government program or agency that runs efficiently? But profits are evil. Right…

    • RightWinger says:

Even if it was 1% profit, it’s still that one word that drives the Democrats nuts – “profit”. Unless of course they have their hands in the till, then the profit is justified.

I saw on a comment section some other day the question about naming one government run program that runs well. The idiot lib who was trying to show how clever she thought she was, says the WW 2 industrialization of America, Victory Gardens and War Bonds were classic examples of how well the Govt runs things. LOL

    • proreason says:

“What would the government burden be?”

The government burden will be that millions of people will die before there time. 90,000 in the UK, for example, because of “mistakes”. They can’t sue the government either. That number doesn’t count the people who die because of denied care.

All on top of the trillions of dollars it will cost taxpayers.

Government run health care is a transfer of life from senior citizens, who for the most part have spent their lives working productively, raising families and paying taxes………..to illegal aliens and other deadbeat liberals, who have already spent their lives sucking tax-paying citizens dry.

Here’s a great article on the topic:

      http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/obamas-malthusian-health-care-lockbox/2/

Synopsis: For Obamycrats, health is as a zero-sum game. Old people must die to allow young people (Obamy voters) to live. Like Eskimo elders, old people must walk into the snow (i.e., refuse life-extending treatments to lower the country’s “out of control” medical costs).

To think a minion of Ole’ Red himself is “demonizing” something. Most people on this board already know who the real demons are.

  10. canary says:

I thought it was left to go after big drug companies and over charging hospitals. Insurance companies have to make a profit, as their pay out, isn’t going to the same each year, they need something in the bank. There is noooo rush. Under a trillion dollars means saving a few drops of a great Lake. No time to read the thousand page small print. Read? they way Obama and his staff write, it has to be studied on of that. Pelosi needs a new doctor, that will say no to her.

  11. Confucius says:

“Didn’t Mr. Bush get lambasted for saying something like that about terrorists?”

I thought the same thing when that ninny said, “. . . you’re either with the insurance companies or you’re for something new.”

I demand the Democrats set a deadline for pulling out of this quagmire of an unpopular war they chose to start.

Innocent civilians are dying! The Dems lied, we died! The Dems lied, we died!

Impeach Obama! Impeach Pelosi! Impeach Reid!

  12. U NO HOO says:

Doesn’t PROGRESSIVE Insurance Company, the one with the bubbly-lady-in-white-commercials, support Democrats?

Will Pelosi put that company under her thumb, so to speak?

    • Colonel1961 says:

Hence the name ‘progressive’. When I learned that, I cancelled my policies with them. No need to support the enemy…

  13. pdsand says:

““Health Insurance Reform To Hold Insurance Companies Accountable” is the title of pocket cards issued to Democratic members going home for the recess…”

I sure hope those cards weren’t printed by a government office, because didn’t they just weeks ago prevent Republicans from mailing from the Congressional mail room such political propaganda?

  14. pdsand says:

“The glory days are coming to an end for the health insurance industry in our country,” Pelosi told reporters Friday afternoon.”

“Health Insurance Reform To Hold Insurance Companies Accountable”

WHAT? I thought if you liked your insurance and your doctor you could keep them? What’s all this about an end to the health insurance industry, and holding insurance companies accountable?
