Pelosi To Buy Votes With $250 SS Checks

From the New York Post:

Duck-out Dems give away $14B

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi opens a lame-duck session today with plans to send a $250 gift check to every single Social Security recipient — a $14 billion last hurrah for Democrats before they surrender control to Republicans.

In case anyone really thinks that their campaigning ever stops.

The payout is supposed to make up for two years without a Social Security cost-of-living adjustment, which is tied to inflation — and inflation has been flat.

Pelosi (D-Calif.) has called it "a one-time payment that will help millions make ends meet during these difficult economic times."

Proponents also argue the expenditure will provide economic stimulus because the old folks would quickly spend the money.

The legislation, dubbed the Seniors Protection Act, was written by nine-term North Dakota Rep. Earl Pomeroy, one of many veteran Democrats who lost re-election and won’t be returning to Congress next year.

And you can bet that Mr. Pomeroy still does not see any ’cause and effect’ relationship here.

It’s just one item on Democrats’ long wish list for the session. They also want to extend unemployment benefits, end the military’s don’t-ask-don’t-tell policy for gays in the service, and ratify a nuclear-weapons reduction treaty with Russia

In other words, the Democrats want to inflict as much damage as possible to our economy, our military and our nuclear defence as possible before they call it day.

You have to admit, they are tenacious. Or is it really just a compulsion?

Like unemployment “insurance” these $250 stipends are paying people for not working. When will the checks be going out so I can have my deposit slip ready?

  2. Mae says:

Stimulate the economy? How about sending it to a Republican PAC to elect more fiscally-responsible candidates to the Senate so we can take back that entity in 2012.

  3. NoNeoCommies says:

    Hey Nancy!
Try buying the votes of the unemployed while you are at it!
Send $250 to all the 99ers and those still collecting.
If life is more expensive for those on SSI, it is more expensive for the people you put out of work buy wrecking the economy.

  4. TerryAnne says:

Why are they (Pelosi) acting like $250 is such a big deal. I’m sorry, but given the fact that inflation is on the rise along with gas and food prices, $250 doesn’t get you a lot.

Yet another show of Democrat contempt for the “little people”.

…..”You have to admit, they are tenacious. Or is it really just a compulsion?…..”

Clueless gets my vote. Bernanke & Co. buys T-bonds with money the Fed prints in the basement, and drives the price of a loaf of bread to $250. But you can have all the butter on it you want (government commodities) until Michelle bans its use because of health issues.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Earl Pomeroy’s forced retirement kicks in sans Social Security and government-mandated health care plans. Alas, all good things must end. I wonder if he’ll be able to eke out an existence on his meager taxpayer-funded pension. Can someone take up a collection? (What computers really need is a ‘sarcasm’ font.)

Despite the first $250 bribe from Pelosi, the majority of seniors turned out to vote Republican in the election. Apparently, seniors are able to see the bigger socialist picture.

Congressional Democrats are little more than acoholics that have the keys to the liquor cabinet for another 6 weeks. They better take a big swig, because detox is coming.

  7. Tater Salad says:

Why thank you Nancy and the American taxpayers. I’m 63 years old and I now know where my $250.00 is going.

    1. $100.00 Tea Party
    2. $100.00 Republican Party
    3. $50 for diner to celebrate the victory last Nov. 2nd.

  8. xdannyh says:

I’m with tater salad on this. The last $250 I got,… yes I’m on SS, …yes I paid in (with employer contributions) $160k and yes I have drawn out, to date approx 14k (some of which I paid taxes on) ….I gave gleefully to conservative institutions, including this one, and I will do the same when and if the next $250 hits. So I hope is happens.
But the salient point is……..What brilliant rapscallions the democrats are: they take the SS cost of living adjustment and convert it into a democrat gift. The Repubs are children when it comes down to political savvy and gaming the system.

  9. MoJo says:

So, Are we gonna get this $250 or not this time? From what I understand it was on the table for a vote the monday after Nov. 2 elections. Anyone hear the outcome yet?

  10. MoJo says:

I have worked hard since I was 14 yrs old, along with going to school, became disabled when I was 41, and I have to live on $800 a month. I would just love to see these politicians try to live on that for even one month !
