Pelosi To Dems: Sacrifice Job For O-care

From a cheering Associated Press:

Pelosi to Dems: back health bill even if it hurts

February 28, 2010

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urged her colleagues to back a major overhaul of U.S. health care even if it threatens their political careers, a call to arms that underscores the issue’s massive role in this election year.

Lawmakers sometimes must enact policies that, even if unpopular at the moment, will help the public, Pelosi said in an interview being broadcast Sunday the ABC News program "This Week."

"We’re not here just to self-perpetuate our service in Congress," she said. "We’re here to do the job for the American people."

It took courage for Congress to pass Social Security and Medicare, which eventually became highly popular, she said, "and many of the same forces that were at work decades ago are at work again against this bill."

Her comments to ABC, in the interview released Sunday, seemed to acknowledge the widely held view that Democrats will lose House seats this fall — maybe a lot. They now control the chamber 255 to 178, with two vacancies. Pelosi stopped well short of suggesting Democrats could lose their majority, but she called on members of her party to make a bold move on health care with no prospects of GOP help.

"Time is up," she said. "We really have to go forth." …

The White House says Obama, perhaps on Wednesday, will announce a "way forward" on health care. He, Pelosi, and Senate Democratic leaders have left little doubt that they hope to pass a Democratic-crafted bill under "budget reconciliation" rules that would bar Republican filibusters in the Senate…

Pelosi told CNN that "in a matter of days" Democrats will have specific legislative language on health care to show to the public and to wavering lawmakers. She predicted voters will warm up to the bill once they understand its details.

"When we have a bill," she said, "you can bake the pie, you can sell the pie. But you have to have a pie to sell."

What does she care? Her job is safe, regardless.

But isn’t it funny?

Weren’t Messrs Clinton and Obama telling the Democrats that voting for ‘healthcare reform’ would be wildly popular and would ensure their re-election just a few weeks ago?

What happened?

So, let me get this straight, Nancy.

The elected body of government, which was elected through, well, voting, that is, a popularity contest, of sorts, by the very people who are against this “healthcare” reform nonsense. So if they vote for it, they will be doing what the people DON’T want. That is, something very UN-popular and with clearly stated and obvious reasons….

Yet, you have decided that it’s necessary to get this process shoved, crammed, blasted through regardless of what said people want or don’t want because those self-same people will remove those representatives from office by another vote, due primarily because of it’s overwhelming unpopularity. Where again is the “voice of the people” if not in our very government?

Am I missing something or do I have it right?

In all my years of watching politics, and seeing politicians wet their finger, hold it to the wind to adjust policy, I can’t believe, now, that they would consider doing something that is completely unpopular.

What this is, is rigid communist ideology. “The ends justify the means.” They have finally gotten enough people in Congress, the stars have lined up for them, and they are going to pull the trigger no matter what!

I only hope it can be reversed, but policy is usually set in cement, and only revolution can reverse it.

    I smell rotting flesh.
Will the demoncraps eat their kill?

I’m with Rusty………they are not listening to the people on this one!!

  3. Rusty Shackleford says:

And, why all this lame talk about “pie”? We KNOW what’s in the bills…and we don’t like it. Or were you not at the “summit”? Or, is it that you think it’ll take people like you to ‘splain it to us, because…obviously we all speak frikkin MARTIAN?!

My god, lady, you really are from a different planet. You have, in very few words, described your utter contempt for, and lack of understanding of the American people. Us “little” people aren’t so stupid as you assume, you pompous, contemptuous twit. I don’t like resorting to name-calling but you have forced me into it. Clearly you believe that the American people are just a bunch of wandering, mindless souls who need to be guided and told what’s best for them, as any proletariat would believe. You are, at your heart of hearts, a socialist. Thanks for showing your hand on that.

See how far it gets you.

…..”She predicted voters will warm up to the bill once they understand its details…..”

Oooooooohhh my, but that’s rich!! They don’t even know what’s in the bill because the reconcilliation process argues to pass a blank piece of paper as the bill and then fill in the particulars later.

Evidently such great fools as they believe we’re as stoooooopid as themselves.

This statement baffles me as well. Has her experience with the last stimulus shown her how much people like bills after they are crammed through?

  5. bobdog says:

Go forth and stupify, Madame Speaker….

  6. proreason says:

Madame Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Louise Slaughter…..I would say a pattern is emerging, but then I think of Charlie Rangel, Chris Dodd, and Al Gore….and I realize the pattern isn’t of stupid women, it’s of stupid liberals.

Was there ever a Republican leader who urged his own party members to lose one for the cause?

I wonder if the proposed healthcare reform bill they hope to pass will cover the condition brought on by ramming through a piece of legislation the public doesn’t want………a condition henceforth to be known as……………. “electile dysfunction”.

    • proreason says:

      “electile dysfunction”

WOW! She never fails to remind me “just how looney this woman is!”

“We’re not here just to self-perpetuate our service in Congress,” she said.

Yet you yourself have disgraced the halls of congress for a mere 22 years. Do us all a favor – lead by example and resign immediately.

  9. jobeth says:

“Lawmakers sometimes must enact policies that, even if unpopular at the moment, will help the public”

Even if the public is dead set against it?

Ohhhh…Wait, I get it now…sort of like the boy scout who “helps” the old lady across the street. Even though she didn’t WANT to cross the street.

Wonder if she is expecting an “atta girl” badge for sacrificing all these house seats… from their occupants?

I expect this would have happened even if Clinton had gotten in as well.

Anyone remember her campaign ad where Billy boy entered a restaurant and was told by a waiting Hilly girl that she had already ordered for him? She said she knew best what he needed.

I went ballistic when I saw that ad, but no one else seemed to see the ominous double meaning in it…at least around here. I was told I was “too suspicious”.

Well…It isn’t Hilly Girl, but the menu is the same. And we are being forced fed…all the way.

Perhaps we might be able to regurgitate it back at them?

  10. Mithrandir says:

This is the tipping point where Americans will realize, that there is not one country, there is two that cannot live side by side. As soon as Republicans take over, they will reverse Democrat policies, and pave everything over with their own policies with a simple majority. And it will be reversed back again and again.

It’s time to divide America in half, left coast from the Mississippi for liberals, East of the Mississippi for conservatives. Alask and Hawaii is up to their voters. The liberals can have Mexico as their border neighbor, and let the doors fly open. Same currency will be used, New York will not like moving to California, and Texas wil not like moving over a few hundred miles, but it is a better compromise.

New Constitutions can be enacted which share the views of the voters. No sharing of military personnel, no ability to vote in each other’s half of the country. No living in one half, and working in another. No expectation that if one half of the country is attacked, that the other half need to react in defense of the other.

The U.N. has to find a new home.

  11. BannedbytheTaliban says:

They know that if they pass another vast entitlement program that they will create another 30 million or so permanent democratic voters. Who cares if they get voted out this election? There will be another election and 30 million people who will want a bigger handout, and a thieving democrat to give it to them.

  12. GTBurns says:

What this is is politically stupid, to ruin their entire party just so they can pass one BILL. They must want HC so bad if they are willing to do this.

  13. crate says:

to GTBurns……. This to you may be politically stupid. To them this is everything they have wanted for years. Total control of the population for ever. To them it does not mater to lose the next election cycle , heck, the rest of them . With this death care it would give them power always. No mater what party is in office.
