Pelosi Backs Restrictions on Heat-Trapping Gases
By CORNELIA DEAN
February 9, 2007
The United States has to cut its greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2050, and mandatory restrictions are the only way to do it, Speaker Nancy Pelosi told the House Science and Technology Committee yesterday.
Ms. Pelosi added that even though she had once opposed using nuclear power to supply some energy needs, she now believed that it should be on the table, if the disposal of radioactive waste could be settled. The speaker said she hoped that the House would consider bills on global warming by July 4.
Ms. Pelosi spoke along with four climate scientists who worked for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the United Nations-sponsored group that issued its latest report last week…
Mind you, this is the same Nancy Pelosi who is insisting on being carted back and forth to her home district once a week in a taxpayer supplied C-32, along with 45 or so of her closest friends and family.
Once again Ms. Pelosi has broken through the marble ceiling — in hypocrisy.

Hey…I’ve argued this all along.
The left, and especially the global warming hystericos, don’t want the rules to apply to them.
Meanwhile, they want the US to adopt the Kyoto treaty, which would cripple industry and ruin our economy.
They want average people to stop using cars (including a group from Madison, WI who wants to make cars and parking lots illegal to discourage use of gasses), to stop using electricity and heat, to live in biodegradable eco huts, wash our clothing with rocks (but just so long as our detergent doesn’t harm the water), and basically give up our way of life in the name of preventing global warming.
Global warming is, at best, hysterics. At worst, it’s psuedo-science masking a political agenda that seeks more control and restrictions on the American people.
The global warming “experts” are using a fraction’s worth of data (like .00075%) - 100-150 years of temperature recording (compared to how many millions of years old the earth is) - to “prove” global warming exists and is man made.
Meanwhile, they igorne a few inconvenient facts:
* the melting of the glaciers
* the warming in the 1300s - where England had vineyards
* the cooling in the 1400s - 1600s
* the cooling in the 1970s (anyone remember the Newsweek hysteria over the next ice age?)
* the impact of natural features (volcanoes) on the earth’s climate
* that a majority of CO2 is naturally generated
Yeah.
Enjoy your lightbulbs, your car, and all the other modern conveniences you can before Pelosi and co. take it away and use them for their own comfort and luxury.
And, of course, all in the name of protecting our planet.

The easiest solution to cut green house emission in half is for half of the country to become “carbon neutral” by that time. That means that they no longer produce any CO2, or use any technology that requires the consumption of fossil fuels.
I hearby call on all environmentalists to immediately hold their breath until they assume a “carbon neutral” position, just like Anna Nicole Smith. It is the only way to save the rest of us from the terrors of Global Warming.
February 9th, 2007 at 12:47 pm
I have a better idea for making the liberal whiners “carbon neutral”, But SG don’t like for us to mention it.
February 9th, 2007 at 12:51 pm
Come on, folks, I can’t be the first one to think of this……
If Pelosi wants to reduce the emission of gasses, perhaps she should shut her mouth.
The hell of it is that we could reduce our CO2 emissions by a huge amount. Also our sulfer emissions, also our emissions of radioactive materials (which burning coal actually produces quite a bit of)–by using nuclear power. It’s used all over the world, and the only disaster we had was when the russians said “Hey–let’s disable all the safety devices, drain out all the coolant, an’ crank this sucker up high as it’ll go!” For anyone who hasn’t heard of Chernobyl, this idea didn’t work out very well.
Every nuclear power plant we put up means less coal being burned–and I think we can all agree that coal is some pretty dirty stuff. It means less carbon-dioxide, less sulfur, probably less radioactive material and certainly less of it being introduced into the atmosphere, less disposal of the ash, less hauling, less mining, and cheaper electricity to boot.
On top of that, liberals refuse to do it even though Europe does, which is usually the primary litmus test. Why the hell is it that adultery, cowardice, and socialism are European values that we have to adopt, but safe clean power is something that those nasty furriners better keep to themselves?

See my post above, Redneck.
The reason the global warming elite in this nation oppose alternative energy sources - nuclear, wind, hydro - is because the DON’T WANT THEM. They want you, me, and everyone who isn’t a rich Democrat to live like it’s the 1500s - we don’t need electricity, refridgeration, transportation. We need to be carbon neutral, so they can have large carbon footprints.
The hypocrisy is breathtaking and balsy, but not suprising. At least to me.

I do more to combat so-called “Global warming” than all of these elitists combined and it isn’t even for saving the environment. Three years ago I made a couple of Solar Heating boxes (I have 3 now) that essentially are made to absorb heat and transfer it into our living room during the day. The inside is made of aluminum painted flat black with the sun entering through a plexiglass panel. Much like how the inside of car heats up on a summer day when the windows are closed. On a good cloudless day, the boxes will produce temps of between 90-100 degrees F higher than the outside air.
But I made these not to combat global warming, but because the cost of natural gas had risen and I wanted to do something to help lower the cost a bit. When the boxes are producing heat, it will help keep the indoor temp around 68-70F and keep the furnance from kicking in for 4-5 hours during the winter time. Of course I was able to shut up a bunch of libs who are in an e-mail group I belong to.
But like the NIMBY elitists, they cried that conservatives don’t want to do anything to help the cause. So I told them of the boxes and that I did more than all of them combined (5). The very first question I was asked was…”Is it an eyesore?”. The next one accused me of lying. Then I took photographs of the boxes and an indoor pic of a digital thermomter reading 130F airflow from the window vents to show they were not an eyesore and they did the job they were made for.
The silence in response spoke volumes! LOL

Yeah, rightwinger, but were they algored approved? Yeah, I got you there. ;>)
February 9th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
1st - I must confess. They were not algored approved. I was automatically disqualified when it was discovered I had a bumper sticker that says “Global warming ends Ice Ages, not people”. :)
February 9th, 2007 at 3:00 pm
I bet you did not do an enviromental feasability study nor a wildlife impact study either , did you? You are just one of those greedy conservatives cheating the Big Gas Company out of their evil profits.
If I were you I would retract everything you said, destroy your home , quit your job and go on welfare like the rest of the liberals and they just might forgive you, Maybe.
February 9th, 2007 at 3:26 pm
Let’s do it! Let’s turn back the clock to the days when we were not destroyiing Mother Earth. Lets’ all give up electricity, dwellings, any form of transportation other that that provided by our fellow animals, (with their permission of course), all forms of communication, medical treatment, etc. etc. All of these leave a carbon footprint. We could all be like our friend the Unibomber, Ted Kuczinski.. He was all for a carbon neutral lifestyle but with all that bomb building he was still a “sinner” in the carbon neutral church. Please Al & Nancy, lead they way!!!!
February 9th, 2007 at 3:58 pm
Hey, RightWinger, I’m with you.
We use low-energy bulbs, wash 99% of our clothing on gentle and cool cycles, we turn off lights when we’re not using rooms, put our computer on timer, keep our heat at about 62 degrees, drive a small sedan, and I walk to work now that we’ve moved right across the street. My husband doesn’t drive, so he busses it everywhere when I’m not home or we’re not traveling together.
So I think we do a lot to live a “carbon neutral” lifestyle. I’m not anti-environment, either. But I don’t want anyone - especially people like I-Want-a-Jubmo-Jet-Pelosi, Two-Block-Motorcade-Gore, and Large-Mansion-Edwards telling me I don’t do enough and have to give up the pretty simple lifestyle I live.
That’s where I get upset.

1st…20 days until my due date. But at this point, he can’t come soon enough…anyone who’s been pregnant will know these last few weeks are UNCOMFORTABLE.
Had an ultrasound yesterday, everything’s fine, and they estimate CJ weighs about 8 pounds. We’re ready, I only have a few non-essential things I’d like to buy, but the nursery is all set up at our new apartment, I have a lot of clothes for newborn-9 months, and other necessary supplies.
I told my husband to post at S & L with the good news, so you all will be in the loop. ;-)

RightWinger
Good on ya! I have a bumper sticker that says “STOP GLOBAL WHINING” On my great big Chevy Express Van! Ah there’s nothin like pissin off libs. When I can’t troll on Dkos I can troll the streets!
February 9th, 2007 at 7:52 pm
I’d like an enterprising reporter ask a serious question of Princess Nan, perhaps about global warming or nuclear power. She’s so stupid she had to be told to be against nuclear power before she was for it.
Has the Pelosi ”family” recently invested in nuclear power companies or nuclear waste disposal? And sure enough, the corrupt dems are poised to profit off this phony crisis.
Meanwhile, she demands a big, gas-guzzling airplane fly her to and fro….
February 9th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Rightwinger: Good job! Do you have a link to information for home made things to save energy like the ones you have?
February 9th, 2007 at 9:54 pm
Pelosi could halve gaseous emissions by next year if the Democrats and her just shut the eff up and tried actual solutions to problems that werent based on potential votes.
February 9th, 2007 at 10:24 pm
Exactly. Imagine the CO2 emissions for which Congress alone is responsible each year, between both their speeches and their travels back and forth from their respective districts to Washington.
If they really cared about reducing emissions, meetings of both houses could very, very easily be done via videoconference instead.
But then they’d miss the opportunity to schmooze and be wined and dined by lobbyists, and that’s the real point of being elected.
February 9th, 2007 at 11:18 pm
I agree they need to stop the “Do as I say, not as I do” mentality.
February 10th, 2007 at 1:38 am
Of course Nancy Pelosi has an entire chapter in “Do As I Say”:
Amazon.com: Do As I Say (Not As I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy: Books: Peter Schweizer
http://tinyurl.com/33ww6s
And this was before she even became the most powerful woman in America not named Oprah.
Say, do you think her swanky hotels have air conditioners?
February 10th, 2007 at 3:17 am
Wouldn’t you think that the Dems would be agitating for energy rationing such as only one car/family, so much square footage allowed /person in the family home (and certainly only one home/family), so many gallons of water/person, no air conditioning (and thermostats set at 68 in winter)? Composting would be required, only one pet/family allowed and the old family cookstove which heated the water and the house besides providing the cooking be brought back. Trains or buses would be the only means of transportation-hey this is beginning to sound like the way we lived when I was a child-no thanks. Outhouses, anyone? Would Barbra Streisand, Nancy Pelose and Hillary go for it as a lifestyle? John Edwards? Jon Cary? Don’tbesilly.

smrssmith - Here is a link to a site that I based my models on.
http://www.mobilehomerepair.com/article17solar.htm
Though I didn’t drill holes into the house to do it. My wife would have killed me! I just built a box to fit into the window for the duct work to pump heat into.
Edit: Here are the pictures I took last year to send to the e-mail group of my project.
http://i179.photobucket.com/al.....rBoxes.jpg
http://i179.photobucket.com/al.....owUnit.jpg
The computer fans in the window unit to blow out the hot air are powered each by a VW solar battery charger that I picked up on Ebay for cheap.
Ideally, my 2×4 boxes should all be combined to make one large box, but it would be too heavy to carry and store at the end of the year, so I opted to make the smaller boxes. Maybe I’ll go out later after work and take a picture of the boxes again with a big sign that says “Sweetness and Light members do more to combat Global Warming than all the elitists combined.” :)
February 10th, 2007 at 10:15 am
Rightwinger….what a great idea! No kidding! It is nice to see when innovative folks do something to combat the obscene price gouging of big oil….oh wait…..conservatives drink bunker 2 oil for dinner while homeless people freeze….sorry, I forgot.
If the code pink “ladies”, boobs not bombs “females”, and especially the Snag would just put their funky drawers in a visqueen bag and hook some drier hose to it, the methane produced by the ooze deposits could keep Cleveland warm for a decade.
The great part is, most of us cant afford the Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, John Edwards lifestyles, and we do what we can to save money and in doing so, also save a lot of emissions that they blat about while they use more energy between the three of them in one week than all of us here at S&L do in a year. Hell, we dont even go around screeching about how “green” we are like they do, or lie through our tooths to try and gain a political upper hand, or sit around thinking of various ways to cheat our party into the white house either…..we live good lives, and dislike the bastards as much as we can.
My smoldering anger at how badly our country has gotten could heat most of central Arkansas for a month…..and the energy expended swinging my “tater stick” upside the haidbones of liberal smarmy anus pirates would rival that of most nuclear power plants. So yeah, I am doing my part. ( It also helps to live in a state where 70 is considered “cold”.) Hear that DW? Eh?

Hasn’t it become almost undeniable that people in government think we citizens are such dolts that we can’t solve our own problems? If they would just allow American inventors to do their thing, or better yet, throw them some research money, someone would come up with something better than gas to run a car. Trust in the American entrepreneurial spirit to help America. People like RightWinger take the pains to DO something rather than complain about something. That’s what it’s all about.
And while our best and brightest are working on those alternate fuel vehicles, let’s drill our own oil and use it to run the old gas-powered cars. The money our goverment blows on outright garbage every day and they can’t come up with a better way to invest in something they profess to care so much about? How concerned could they possibly be considering they do absolutely nothing about it? But I guess in Washington, it’s more about having a campaign issue or a subject on which to attack someone rather than actually solving a problem.
I seriously doubt that this global warming stuff is little more than a politically charged pseudo issue personally. And scientists (who get grants to carry out their “research” on the matter form who else but the government) are all too willing to pump up the statistical rhetoric. But the media enables the climate change crowd by never allowing a dissenting or opposing view on the subject. Next time you read a newspaper article on global warming, notice that it is one-sided. Conversely, if some conservative is quoted in an immigration article, for instance, there will invariably be an opposing viewpoint represented. The media has made this their darling cause and all reporting will be handled as if it is completely factual. Of course, any real research into the subject proves it isn’t, but research is too much effort for today’s “objective” journalists.
February 10th, 2007 at 12:24 pm
Thanks sheehanjihad and AIPA. Like I said, I only did this to help save some money on heating the house. I actually do not gripe about the oil companies and their profits because the bigger rip-off artists behind higher gas prices is the Govt and their gas taxes. I sit here day in and day out and listen to “know-it-all” libs who cry the oil companies shouldn’t be charging so much for a barrell of oil. Then when you try to educate them on the commodities market and that is the area where oil prices are set, they wave their hand to dismiss you as if your just a stupid mouth-piece for the oil companies. For which I’m not, I work for an airline and my wages were cut because of high oil and fuel prices. So where I could take the easy way out and let Error America radio do my thinking for me and blame the oil companies because of my lost wages, I look at the bigger picture and see something completely different.
Another point on the Global Warming myth, supposing for one second that what the gloom and doomers are saying is true and that it is man-made and the United States is the biggest contributer, then a lot of the blame should be passed squarely on the shoulders of the enviromentalists who have spent decades fighting against the building of Nuclear reactors which do not pollute the air. They fight tooth and nail against the building of dams that could provide hydro-electric power. As we see today, they fight against windmill farms, they are fighting against hydrogen fuel cells now, they fight against everything.
Here in this Democrat run-down depressed State of despair New Jersey, there was an article in the paper the other day on how people who live in some townhouse communities and areas are being told they cannot put solar panels on their houses because they are not “aesthetically pleasing.” One guy spent $16,000 (after a $24,000 rebate from the State) to put solar panels on his house. The town home association then came to him and told him he needed to remove the panels, so now he is fighting it in court. If he loses the court case, he will have to give the $24,000 back to the state, will be out $16,000 and will have to spend $15-$20,000 to repair the roof because of all the holes in it. The rulebook for the community did not say he was not allowed to put solar panels on his roof. You also can’t put up things in places like this such as the American Flag and outdoor Christmas decorations, so that should tip you off to the political mindset that runs these “townhouse communities”
Then there is a guy who runs a “green” car wash in one Jersey town where he recycles water to wash the cars and collects used motor oil to run a modified furnace to keep the place warm. He wanted to place a windmill on the property to help provide power for the place and the town told him no. Again because the town council said it would be an eyesore to visitors to the city.
So wherever thers is an opportunity to do something “green” for whatever reason, there is some lib there to thwart it. Then point figners at Bush, neo-cons, big oil, capitalism and blame them for the US not signing onto Kyoto.

Funny how this article neglects to mention that discrepancy.
