Pence: Obama’s Drilling Is “Smokescreen”

A press release from Congressman Pence, via GOP.gov:

Pence Calls President’s Drilling Announcement “Smokescreen”

Washington, DC—U.S. Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman of the House Republican Conference and the American Energy Solutions Group, issued the following statement today regarding President Obama’s announcement on oil and gas exploration:

“As usual the devil is in the details.  Only in Washington, D.C., can you ban more areas to oil and gas exploration than you open up, delay the date of your new leases and claim you’re going to increase production.

“The President’s announcement today is a smokescreen.  It will almost certainly delay any new offshore exploration until at least 2012 and include only a fraction of the offshore resources that the previous Administration included in its plan.

“Unfortunately, this is yet another feeble attempt to gain votes for the President’s national energy tax bill that is languishing in the Senate.  At the end of the day this Administration’s energy plan is simple: increase the cost of energy on every family in America and trade American jobs overseas at a time when millions of Americans are looking for work.”

What he said.

Rep. Pence is right on the money here. The act of lifting the moratorium in and of itself does nothing. There are so many bureaucratic and regulatory agencies that have the power to kill any leases or proposed exploration program, that the moratorium is insignificant in comparison. A change is policy is what is needed and the policy will only change when there is a conservative administration, and even then not by a lot as the liberals are entrenched in bureaucracy.

Obama is attempting to do a few things here. He is dangling this as a carrot in front of oil and gas corporations (who know better than to take the bait) in a feeble effort to gain support for his [anti] energy bill and he is using this as a pre-emptive CYA measure. If the energy bill is defeated, he will say that he “gave” this as a concession to his opponents and they still refused to “compromise,” even though this “promise” is hollow and the rest of the bill is so damaging to the energy sector that any perceived benefit from his so-called policy shift would be negated by a factor of…oh…about 3000%.

Lastly, this is part of a strategy we will come to see more of as the November mid-term elections approach. That strategy will be the leftists, statists, and liberals saying seemingly conservative things and trying to tell us about their stance for fiscal conservatism, etc., etc. in an effort to be seen as less radical/liberal so they can save their butts.

  2. GL0120 says:

I’m certain that although he approved it, the dems in congress will cover his butt by tying it up in committee until it’s forgotten.
One hand washes the other, or in Obama’s world, one hand washes the others feet.

  3. bill says:

Obama lies? I’m shocked I tell you, just shocked.

I am surprised he didn’t include drilling off the east coast of Alaska …

    • jobeth says:

      He did include Alaska.

      Off the mid Atlantic region
      Off Florida in the gulf
Off the NW coast (I believe…)

      AND (drum roll) ANWAR!
      Not the southern fishing area

      He excluded off southern Calif.

Like the story said though, its all a scam.

When I read the story, my thought was “Why…Why would anyone believe anything this criminal said?

If you look at everything he has done TO this country in the last 15 months, not one damn thing has benefited the country. Every single thing has caused more hardship.
Obviously an all out effort to destroy the county and it’s people…making it so financially weakened it won’t be able to withstand a (nuclear?) hit by his buds.

      It can’t be more clear.

Either this is the most stupid prez we’ve ever had or the most evil. He’s not stupid…so that only leaves one option.

When is someone somewhere going to find something substantial and provable that shows he is guilty of treason. I just want him OUT of the WH and in some Jail cell somewhere.

They want to prosecute Bush…Well I want to Prosecute Him

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

He’s not stupid per se, jobeth.

He is, however, blind in his arrogance. Something that afflicts many a megalomaniac. And, usually the trait that drags them down, and then under. Johnson also had it in abundance. But at least Johnson really wasn’t stupid. However, even his slight sprinkling of vague but practiced humility couldn’t help him. He was as misguided as he was egotistical. The seat he had installed in AF-1 was adjustable so that he would never sit lower than the person opposite from him at his desk.

Still, he could be seen as having a heart, unlike the unlovable tin-man we have now. Were Barry to go see The Wizard, and was given a “testimonial”, Barry would break out his jeweler’s loupe and examine it for street value. But actually, instead of a heart, the Wizard would give him a lump of coal and hang it around his neck.

Conceited arrogance. He THINKS he’s the smartest man in any room. Yet he is merely the biggest smart-ass in any room and like my granddad told me, “If you’re gonna be a smart-ass, you’d at least better be smart”

He’s not all that smart. He’s not stupid, per se, like I said. But he is very ignorant in that manner which is both annoying and obstructive. He is not concerned with how things actually happened, who did them, why, when, etc. The a-rabs gave us the compass. Right. The automobile was invented in the US….right. All 57 states. Puh-leez, Barry, my boy, you’re killing me.

Those are not just gaffs. They are direct indicators of the world according to Barry. It’s like GARP only it’s not funny and it ends badly.

    • proreason says:

      He’s not stupid per se

      yes he is.

      – He doesn’t understand how auto insurance works and he’s in his late 40’s
      – He thinks reducing something 3000 percent makes sense
      – He thinks the best country ever is evil
      – He has been terrible in every aspect of every job he has ever had. He even failed at giving money away in the Annenburg challenge. He is beyond incompetant as the president.
      – He has no interest in and doesn’t understand the basics of science.
      – He is financially illiterate. He was close to bankruptcy his entire life.
      – He knows less history than any poster on this web-site. There are dozens of examples.
      – the writings that can be proven to be his are dreadful

But he is a practiced and skilled liar, and he has been trained very well in the political arts of deflection (which is just another form of lying).

Basically, he has been carried around on a silk pillow. Anybody can look smart if they live in a bubble. The very few times where he has been challenged, he always screws up. Joe the plumber, the Fox interview…that’s about it.

There is no way he would be forced to use a teleprompter if he wasn’t a dolt. NO other major politician has ever done so. It’s clear proof that his handlers don’t think he is capable of handling even the continuous stream of softball setup questions he gets.

His stupidity has been covered up his entire life.

If he had good grades in school, there is NOT WAY they would not have been published.

I don’t see any evidence whatsoever that he is smart. It’s smoke and mirrors.

      He’s an idiot.

    • Rusty Shackleford says:

I like what you said better and I stand happily corrected.

But, I’m still standing by the conceited arrogance part. When you glue that to the stupidity, it becomes more clear.

    • Perdido says:

    • proreason says:

Rusty, absolutely on the conceit and arrogance part.

I view him as a better-trained Maxime Waters.

The single most amazing thing to me about these people, from the Boy King through Pelosi, is the stunning STUNNING unfounded arrogance.

If I was ever to embarrass myself intellectually in public as they do dozens of times a day, I would crawl into a hole with shame and never come out. I’m still embarrassed about stupid stuff I did or said when I was 7.

      But they are absolutely shameless.

It’s as if they say, proudly and boldly….I don’t care how stupid I am, I’ve somehow stumbled into this position of power, and by god, I’m going to be as gd fg stupid as I want to be. Screw you!!!

Here’s a classic example. One of milions.

And as a follow-up to my previous post, I challenge anybody to cite a situation where the Moron proves that he is smart.
      – Speeches and teleprompters don’t count….he only mouths what somebody else writes.
      – His “books” don’t count…..somebody else wrote them.
      – Softball interviews don’t count…….anybody can answer setup questions.
      – His schools don’t count……no transcripts have ever been published.
      – Brainstorm sessions don’t count…..as president, he gets to say whatever he wants, unchallenged.
      – His campaign doesn’t count……somebody else ran them. He has NEVER fired a major campaign worker.
      – His fed/state senate career don’t count……he has no accomplishments, no bills, no legislation.
      – His jobs don’t count…..he has never worked at one.
      – His “position” as Constitutional Lecturer doesn’t count….every notable Constitutional scholar scratches the head over his idiocies.

In all seriousness, where is a single shred of evidence that this guy is smart.

      There isn’t a shred.

      He’s an idiot.

  4. Reality Bytes says:

I learned long ago that news made more sense when you turned it around e.g.

    Less abortions = more abortions

Green jobs = (1) jobs paid for by the green in the taxpayer’s pockets & (2) subsidized jobs created at the expense of real jobs lost – about a 200 to 1 margin

Recovery = getting worse just not as fast….for now

    Affordability = more taxes

Transparent = news black out on closed hearings & meetings with hedgefund owners

Please hold onto this list for future reference next to the RB definitions of new code words given last week.

    That is all.

  5. Have we forgotten the lesson of the First Obama Prototype: Hugo Chavez?

Let get those platforms a pumping so that when oil is the last cash generating industry left it can be properly recognized as the sole source of income for the new people’s republic of Obamastan. With control of energy, comes power.

    Legalize.. Prioritize.. Capitalize.. then Nationalize.

    • AcornsRNutz says:

This is an angle i had not thought of, but much like the massive (and if you ask me something that ought to be completely illegal) ownership of land by the federal government, it makes a very scary sense.

  6. ptat says:

EVERY SINGLE THING Obama does from now on is to manipulate opinion for November. He knows it will be a wipe out if he doesn’t do some faking to the right and get some sound bites going for the ads. Damage control, eternal campaigning….forget about “governing”!

  7. BigOil says:

It’s the Marxist two-step – a dance we know well.

I may allow limited exploration in 5 to 10 years in exchange for absolute control of the energy sector today.

Which RINO’s will take the bait? Paging Senators Graham, Snow, and Collins.

  8. Perdido says:

I’ll believe it when he starts expediting the permitting of REFINERIES.

No wonder he gets away with so much crap, Not a single Rep or Sen called his bluff on refining.

  9. AcornsRNutz says:

Oh, and I just htis minute heard this on fox news radio: New CAFE standards (much much more strict) will begin “sooner than expected”, probably NLT 2016. It’s all becoming clear now.

  10. Mithrandir says:

    ~ ~ ~ IT’S ALL PART OF THE SHOW PEOPLE!!!!~ ~ ~

Don’t you get it yet? Do you know why Democrats oppose everything Republicans do? Because THEY want to do it. It doesn’t matter if it’s a good idea, they want to wait until their guy is in charge to do it.

It is part of “Creating a Crisis” so that they can ride in a fix it. We have plenty of oil, BUT the Dems have to wait until their is a shortage or crises, before they enact a plan to drill for more oil and save the day. Until then, it is excuse time “Oil is not the answer!” ” We need to be concerned about the environment!” “We don’t want another Exon Valdez!” ~~ The only problem is, is that Democrats never fix it, it’s always worse than before.
