Pew: (Lefty) Twitter Users Don’t Reflect Public

From the Washington Examiner:

Pew: Twitter lies

By Paul Bedard | March 5, 2013

A remarkable year-long study by the Pew Research Center finds that what’s trending on Twitter, often used by national reporters to gauge immediate public opinion of news events like President Obama’s election, exaggerates to the point of lying.

The key reason: a majority of those who tweet are young Democrats, giving the social network an unbalanced view of the world. What’s more: reaction is more negative than what public polls find.

Take the reception to Obama’s reelection as an example. Pew said polling found that 52 percent of the public was "happy," and 45 percent "unhappy." But the Twitter reaction was 77 percent "happy," 23 percent "unhappy." …

Congrats to David Axelrod, George Soros and the countless Democrat front groups.

Twitter is huge in Washington, a place where reporters, lawmakers and lobbyists put news and get their information, giving it an outsized influence in the national debate.

But Pew found that Washington is a rarity: Most don’t use Twitter. "Just 13 percent of adults said they ever use Twitter or read Twitter messages; only 3 percent said they regularly or sometimes tweet or retweet news or news headlines on Twitter." …

Which is why Obama and the Democrats and their front groups have to pay people to tweet and post their propaganda on other social media.

Said Pew: "Twitter users are not representative of the public. Most notably, Twitter users are considerably younger than the general public and more likely to be Democrats or lean toward the Democratic Party.

In the 2012 news consumption survey, half (50 percent) of adults who said they posted news on Twitter were younger than 30, compared with 23 percent of all adults. And 57 percent of those who posted news on Twitter were either Democrats or leaned Democratic, compared with 46 percent of the general public."

In reality, most of the people who post political material on Twitter and elsewhere on the internet probably don’t even exist. They are dummy accounts run by paid Democrat flacks.

  1. We almost swim in lies today. The age we live in will be remembered primarily for its lies, and for the global corruption of character and principle that nourishes and cultivates them; producing mass delusion and destruction. Chaos and suffering are going to increase until we learn honesty.

Greatest lies of our age: 1) That socialists/progressives “care for the people and want prosperity and freedom”
(Truth: Yes, until they reach genuine adulthood; by which time they know it’s all about power over others, and little else).

    2) That free-market and individual freedom proponents – labeled “capitalists” by the Marxists – are out to impoverish, oppress, destroy, and dominate peoples and nations.
(Truth: Free-market and individual freedom proponents are – and always have been – the only creators of wealth, general prosperity, and civilization).

    3) That science, technology, and reason are a substitute for God and wisdom; that humans are godlike, and have the power to remake the world in their own benign image.
(Truth: This phony conceit is the central cause of lying, corruption, power-madness, and the evils of the modern world).

  2. Any time I see the word PEW I will go on Offense … again …

HISTORY and Context you don’t know – Every time you read the word Pew, you need to remember the extreme Left politics of Pew, and the Legacy and Betrayal of J Howard Pew, whose money they spend …

Consider the case of J. Howard Pew of Sun Oil. During his lifetime, he was a tireless champion of free markets and individualism. In 1957, he created the J. Howard Pew Freedom Trust, with instructions that it use its funds to “acquaint the American people” with “the evils of bureaucracy,” “the values of the free market,” and “the paralyzing effects of government controls on lives and activities of people,” to “inform our people of the struggle, persecution, hardship, sacrifice and death by which freedom of the individual was won” and to educate them about how “Socialism, Welfare statism [and] Fascism . . . are but devices by which government seizes the ownership or control of the tools of production.” In accordance with those wishes, the Freedom Trust funded mostly libertarian and conservative activities, as long as its board consisted of Pew family members and friends. But as the family members and friends died off, they were replaced by others who gradually reoriented its spending, first toward mainstream activities, then gradually toward the very activities that the trust had been set up to oppose.

The PEW you see today inserting itself into every discourse, is what their Founder warned of. And they do it with J Howard’s money. It is as start a lesson in how the progressive left works as any I know.

FoxNews: US postpones award for Egyptian woman after anti-Semitic tweets surface

    Mar 07, 2013

Samira Ibrahim, an Egyptian activist who rallied worldwide attention against forced “virginity tests” on female protesters, was supposed to be honored Friday along with nine others by first lady Michelle Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry.

The State Department, though, announced that it would postpone the International Women of Courage award while officials investigate the tweets. Ibrahim is now headed back home.

“We, as a department, became aware very late in the process about Samira Ibrahim’s alleged public comments,” State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters.

In July of last year, after five Israeli tourists and a Bulgarian bus driver were killed in a bombing, a tweet on her account said: “An explosion on a bus carrying Israelis in Burgas airport in Bulgaria on the Black Sea. Today is a very sweet day with a lot of very sweet news.”

As a mob was attacking the United States embassy in Cairo on Sept. 11 of last year, pulling down the American flag and raising the flag of Al Qaeda, a tweet on her account said:

“Today is the anniversary of 9/11. May every year come with America burning.” The tweet was deleted a couple of hours later, but not before a screen shot was saved by an Egyptian activist.

In a letter to Kerry, the Illinois Republican said Ibrahim used her Twitter account to “express anti-Semitic views and support for international terrorism” and called her hacking claim “dubious” given the timing and duration of the tweets.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
