Pfc Manning Blames ‘Gender Disorder’ For Actions

From an irony proof Associated Press:

Manning takes stand, apologizes for hurting US

FORT MEADE, Md. (AP) — Pfc. Bradley Manning took the stand Wednesday at his sentencing hearing in the WikiLeaks case and apologized for hurting his country, pleading with a military judge for a chance to go to college and become a productive citizen.

He addressed the court on a day of often emotional testimony from family members about his troubled childhood and from a psychologist who said Manning felt extreme mental pressure in the "hyper-masculine" military because of his gender-identity disorder — his feeling that he was a woman trapped in a man’s body.

Lest we forget, Mr. Manning had previously indicated that he ‘leaked’ these secrets to protest ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’ and to stand up for homosexuals in the military, in general. But now he is calling his homosexuality a ‘gender-identity disorder? What a change of tune.

"I am sorry that my actions hurt people. I’m sorry that they hurt the United States," he said as he began. Manning, 25, could be sentenced to 90 years in prison for the leaks…

Hence his newfound contrition.

His conciliatory tone was at odds with the statement he gave in court in February, when he condemned the actions of U.S. soldiers overseas and what he called the military’s "bloodlust." …

Nit pickers.

Manning’s attorneys contend he showed clear signs of deteriorating mental health before and during his deployment that should have prevented commanders from sending him to a war zone to handle classified information.

You see? It’s the Army’s fault for allowing someone showing signs of homosexuality to handle classified information.

Manning eventually came out to Capt. Michael Worsley, emailing the clinical psychologist a photo of himself in a long, blond wig and lipstick. The photo was attached to a letter titled "My problem," in which Manning described his internal struggle and said he had hoped that a military career would "get rid of it." …

Worsley’s testimony portrayed some military leaders as lax at best and obstructionist at worst when it came to tending to soldiers with mental health problems. "I questioned why they would want to leave somebody in a position with the issue they had," Worsley said…

Maybe because people like Mr. Worsley would have sued for discrimination if they removed him.

Navy Capt. David Moulton, a psychiatrist who spent 21 hours interviewing Manning at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., after his arrest, testified as a defense witness that Manning’s gender identity disorder, combined with narcissistic personality traits, idealism and his lack of friends in Iraq, caused him to conclude he could change the world by leaking classified information…

Moulton also reported for the first time in open court that Manning has symptoms of fetal alcohol syndrome and Asperger syndrome, which is an autism spectrum disorder…

Anything else? Doesn’t he also have ADHD?

At least 46 international journalists and 78 spectators were in attendance. Many spectators wore black "Truth" T-shirts.

What a laugh. The last things these people want is for the truth about Mr. Manning to come out.

Which is illustrated in this news, via The Hill:

WikiLeaks: Manning’s apology was forced

By Mario Trujillo | August 14, 2013

WikiLeaks late Wednesday described Bradley Manning’s apology as “forced” but, nonetheless, called on a court to take “compassion” and “understanding” into account during his sentencing…

Using rhetoric normally reserved for confessions obtained through torture, the anti-secrecy group to which Manning leaked the information said his apology has been three years in the making and came only after an unfair trial and “inhumane treatment.”

“Mr. Manning’s apology is a statement extorted from him under the overbearing weight of the United States military justice system,” WikiLeaks said in a statement. “It took three years and millions of dollars to extract two minutes of tactical remorse from this brave soldier.”

The group made clear it thought Manning had been backed into a corner and was issuing an apology to reduce his sentence. He could face up 90 years in prison.

“The only currency this military court will take is Bradley Manning’s humiliation," the group said. "In light of this, Mr. Manning’s forced decision to apologise to the US government in the hope of shaving a decade or more off his sentence must be regarded with compassion and understanding." …

In fact, it sounds like WikiLeaks is asking for compassion and understanding from the public and the news media and the rest of Manning’s supporters. Not the court.

In any case, once his sentence has been handed down everyone, including Manning, will proudly proclaim it was all a lie. So he can return to playing the gay martyr hero.

That lipstick’s too dark for that complexion.

Didn’t Max Klinger send a photo of himself in an evening gown to some general to get out of Korea?

Awwww. Poor li’l Bradley. He has fetal alcohol syndrome (only diagnosed AFTER all this), he’s gender confused… not gay (politically non-committal at best) which is also apparently a new thing. He’s now a diagnosed narcissist (no surprise there), and here’s one I’ve never heard before, idealism being diagnosed like some kind of disorder. Now the mean ole army justice system is supposed to take pity on him because of his abject messed-upidness. He’s obviously not ultimately responsible.

I haven’t seen a pile of steaming excrement this obvious since Susan Rice hit the Sunday shows. OK Obama has opened his mouth a couple of times since them, but OTHER than him.

Let’s just say for the sake of stupidity that all these excuses are true. None of these excuses change the facts of the case. The guy still belongs behind bars for as long as they can put him there. Also, in order to prevent this kind of thing from happening again, maybe the mean ole Army should look for gender identity disorders during the vetting process and ban them from service (for their own sanity and the security of the armed forces). No, that would be racist… I mean sexist… I mean homophobic… or, oh I give up.

    Gender disorder?
Looks more like a “DRAG” racer to me.
Prison will fix your disorder, bub.

so….. poor little bradley feels internal turmoil during his formative years, (girl in a man’s body?), joins the military in hopes it will “straighten him out,” realizes afterward it’s TOO butch for him, decides to get even with those homophobic boys who won’t befriend him, and gives away secret military intelligence. in a war zone. after getting caught he brags that it was “for the greater good” to prove amerika’s military and G. W. Bush are bad people.

regardless of the many differing interest groups with varying analyses swirling around this issue, sweep away the liberal obfuscation and all you have is a soldier who gave secret military intelligence to a hostile entity. in time of war……
somewhere there is a yardarm he SHOULD be hanging from. but the same fear of liberal lunatics that forced the military to adopt the social experiment accepting the mental disorder in the first place will likely prevent them from giving poor bradley his 90 yr. sentence.
as Steve already noted – for fear of accusations of gay-bashing, someone in the chain of command was probably afraid to remove the screwed up little buggerer from his post, and now we’re all paying for it.

you should see (or maybe not) the fawning article in today’s uk guardian explaining to the brad’s sycophants (psycho fans?) that lack of press coverage of his trial hurt his defense. really. libs. go figure.
