Police: Columbia won’t turn over video

NEW YORK - Columbia University has refused to turn over security videotape that could help identify who hung a noose on a black professor’s office door, police said Thursday.
Investigators began asking on Wednesday for tapes from cameras in the building, but have been rebuffed by administrators, said Paul Browne, the New York Police Department’s top spokesman.
He said police will have to get a court order to force the school to provide video they believe could crack the case.
“It’s unfortunate because it adds a time-consuming step to the investigation,” Browne said.
A Columbia spokesman did not return a request for comment.
Authorities were testing the 4-foot-long twine noose for DNA evidence, but had no suspects as of Thursday morning.
On Wednesday, the professor who was the target of the attack, Madonna Constantine, told hundreds of faculty and students at a rally on the Ivy League campus that the noose was a “blatant act of racism” that “reeks of cowardice and fear.”
“I’m upset that our community has been exposed to such an unbelievably vile incident,” she said…
Court records show Constantine filed a defamation lawsuit in May against another professor of psychology and education, Suniya S. Luthar.
The one-page filing in Manhattan’s state Supreme Court also accuses Luthar of libel and slander and asks for $100,000 in damages. The single page was signed only by Constantine and does not indicate if she had a lawyer.
Luthar declined to discuss the lawsuit. She wouldn’t say if she had spoken with police about the noose.
“I think it is an unspeakably ghastly, horrible incident,” she said Thursday.
The state Attorney General’s office also sent lawyers from its civil rights bureau and investigators to look into the case, said spokesman Jeffrey Lerner…
I smell a rat. If there was a real perpetrator they would be screaming from the rooftops to show the tape. And we would be seeing it in an endless loop (ala the Rodney King “beating”).
But of course there isn’t a perpetrator on the tape. And of course the media will simply ignore that glaring fact.

All of the photos are artfully crafted to disguise the simple fact that nobody showed up. So the AP can feel free to lie and says “hundreds” showed up, anyway.

It’s too convenient… leftist professor stages event, gets caught, claims it was to “raise awareness”, of an issue that only exists because of their staged event.

No doubt this doesn’t pass the sniff test. Notice in one of the pictures, the sign stating “from Jena to Columbia”. Yeah right. And these hateful racists are going to make sure it’s from Jena to Columbia by creating racism where it doesn’t exist….except in their own hearts. I’m so sick of these people.

I’m not clever enough to come up with a plausible conspiracy theory, but I still maintain that we are being shoved (maybe herded is a better word) towards a race war on this continent -by the AP and their co-religionists in the
entertainment industryother MSM outlets.Granted, there’s no good time to have a race war but this seems an especially bad time to be having one as it would tend to distract us from that other minor disagreement we’re having right now with the nice Islamists.
Am I wrong ? Is this just plain stupidity on the part of the media, or is there something more sinister at play here ?

Columbia cant release a tape showing a black professor hanging a noose on her own door, then screeching racism to garner publicity for herself. Columbia cant be seen as an institution that harbors racist professors yet allows conservative speakers to be attacked and driven from the stage…they might be seen as rather biased, huh? This whole thing reeks. maybe she can burn a cross in her yard too…..and parents pay tuition for this kind of crap?

sj…..it’s not the parents paying tuition (actually flushing $$ in the toilet) for this that concerns me. It’s that the students in this hate filled racist, anti-American institution will be transferring what they learn here to future generations of our children. And what they will be transferring isn’t good. It will be interesting to see of the NYPD and DA are going to aggressively try to determine what really happened here.

Just more grist for the mill from the race hustlers. I saw Katie Couric run a 5 minute segment on this last night on CBS, and they ran a tape of a Black student saying they didn’t care if it was a hoax or not, that racism is a big problem and society needed to face up to it. I thought that pretty well summed up the whole issue: fake but accurate.
Also, am I the only one who wonders why it is nearly everyone who can afford to will pay big $ (cash in their retirement or mortgage their house) to send their kids to listen to Professor Madonna Constantine spew her screed at Columbia U? We really need to re-think higher education. Why do people require a 4 year degree involving listening to idiots like this?

Not to be trite but, have photographs of the offending “noose” been released, or seen by anyone but the victim?
How about the noose(s) at Jena High School? Anyone recall seeing actual photo’s of them?
The only Jena photographs of a “noose” were admittedly reproductions and not actual photo’s of the offending knots.
Same here, nothing released to any media as to “actual” photos of the “noose”.
Now, wouldn’t you think that at least one media outlet would have obtained photographs of one or both of these “offensive” actions..??? Interesting isn’t it, nobody has posted a photo of either of these so-called transgressions?? Hmmmm…????
Call me cynical but this isn’t passing the standard “smell test”, something is definitely rotten in Denmark..!!

The University has decided to turn over the tapes before a subpoena could be served, And I’m sure they took the time to review the videos, The laughable excuse they used for withholding the tapes were from privacy concerns, The BS meter is off the scale.

And who knows if the police received all the videos or if the videos they received are unedited. Regardless if some white racist ‘noosed’ her, which I doubt, her credibility is zero at this point. Actually I think she has “noosed” the public, looking to create a racial incident.

I think your right WI, I hesitated about posting the editing angle, But they did have over 24 hours to play.
Most security cameras have a time marker, I Am not sure how easy it is to get around that.
Regardless, The refusal to cooperate after calling the police just reeks of cover up.

Any competent videographer can alter the time stamp on a vid…especially students looking for a free grade or pass if they cooperate with the prof…..it was staged, it was set up to create racial tensions, it was wildly successful in that regard…..and now the altered doctored tape will show a white racist prick giggling uncontrollably as he tip toes in and attaches the noose to the doorknob, and then runs down the hall whispering racist epithets. Or, it will be blurry, showing someone who could be any race walking by and hesitating near the door, and then the noose shows up in the next jumpy frame segment.
Racists are wonderful people. They keep an entire industry thriving at the expense of innocent people’s lives and welfare. Racists are all colors….but the ones who create tensions in order to get a paycheck are the worst of all. especially if they purport to be educators. This professor actually is in charge of teaching children……no wonder the democrat party has such a voter base…..
