Corzine’s SUV – 91 MPH In 65 MPH Zone

From a shocked and outraged Associated Press:

Police: Corzine Driver Traveling at 91 MPH Seconds Before Crash

Tuesday, 17 April 2007

TRENTON, N.J. (AP)  — The SUV carrying Gov. Jon S. Corzine was traveling about 91 mph moments before it crashed, Superintendent of State Police Col. Rick Fuentes said Tuesday.

The governor was critically injured when the vehicle crashed into a guardrail on the Garden State Parkway just north of Atlantic City last week. He apparently was not wearing his seat belt as he rode in the front passenger’s seat.

The speed limit along that stretch of the parkway is 65 mph.

The state trooper-driven sport utility vehicle was in the left lane with its emergency lights flashing when a pickup tried to get out of its way. Instead, it set off a chain reaction that resulted in the crash.

A law enforcement official with knowledge of the security detail said Corzine’s driver likely drove slightly faster than the traffic flow to keep another vehicle from riding alongside the governor, posing a possible security breach.

“You always assume the worst risk,” said the official, who spoke only on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak about the accident or the investigation.

Fuentes said his agency’s Motor Vehicular Pursuit Review Board would examine the accident report to determine whether the crash was preventable. If it was, he said trooper Robert Rasinski, who was driving, could be charged.

Corzine was the only one seriously injured in the crash. Rasinski and an aide to the governor, were not seriously hurt.

Corzine broke 12 ribs and numerous other bones, including a leg fracture requiring three surgeries to repair. He remains on a ventilator to ease the pain of breathing with multiple fractures, though doctors were assessing when he might be able to breathe on his own.

He doesn’t have brain damage or paralysis, and is doing well for someone who sustained so many injuries, doctors said….

Of course the AP, being the slaveys of the DNC, try to pin all the blame on the driver.

Apparently the driver really wanted to meet with Imus.
