Politico: Obama Changes His Tenor (Pretends To)

From a highly approving Politico:

Obama massages negotiation messaging

By JONATHAN ALLEN | October 8, 2013

There was a time not too long ago — late September — when President Barack Obama wanted everyone to know he wouldn’t negotiate with House Republicans on the debt ceiling or his health law.

But eight days into a government shutdown, with the debt ceiling in danger of being breached as early as Oct. 17, Obama has changed his tenor and tone to avoid taking blame for Washington’s meltdown.

Because, despite what we’re being told by his Pretorian guard in the news media, the public is blaming Obama.

Obama’s position hasn’t shifted, but his emphasis has. His stance remains that he won’t give away any concessions to Republicans to get them to vote for reopening the government or raising the debt ceiling to avert a default. But now, the president wants everyone to know that he’s not only willing but eager to talk about everything under the sun — eventually…

In other words, Obama is still refusing to negotiate. But he is going to stop saying that out loud. Instead, he is going to say he wants to negotiate. But the Republicans have to cave first.

Naturally the Politico thinks this is pure genius. And they are only too happy to perpetuate this farce.

That recalibration was evident in the way he recounted a Tuesday morning conversation with House Speaker John Boehner for reporters in the White House briefing room.

“I am happy to talk with him and other Republicans about anything, not just issues I think are important but also issues that they think are important,” Obama said of his message to Boehner. “But I also told him that having such a conversation, talks, negotiations shouldn’t require hanging the threats of a government shutdown or economic chaos over the heads of the American people." …

They shouldn’t. But with a stubborn partisan hack like Obama, that’s the only way to get him to negotiate.

From Obama’s perspective, Republicans are asking for “ransom” and threatening to “burn down the house” to extract further cuts to cherished Democratic programs beyond those enacted in sequestration.

It’s funny, Obama how keeps comparing the Republicans to criminals and even terrorists. Because we know that Obama is very willing to negotiate with criminals and terrorists. Even people who commit crimes against humanity by using poison gas on their own citizens.

But not the Republicans. There are some ‘red lines’ he will never cross.

The Democrats, he argues, have already compromised to get to the level of spending that both sides agreed on in previous budget pacts.

Huh? Obama is saying it is a compromise to continue with the sequester, which was his idea and which he has refused to allow to be changed. And no one in the news media challenges him on that.

[O]n Tuesday, Obama portrayed himself as a uniter. “I’ve shown myself willing to go more than halfway in these conversations,” Obama said before offering to take Republicans to dinner.

It’s a wonder he is not struck by lightning. When has even had a conversation, much less met anyone half way?

“But I’m not going to do it until the more extreme parts of the Republican Party stop forcing John Boehner to issue threats about our economy. We can’t make extortion routine as part of our democracy.” …

Notice that for Democrats (and of course their lickspittle media) trying to reach a compromise is ‘extortion.’ Yet they demand that Republicans compromise at every turn.

” … changes tenor?” To what? a Castrato?

Obama happily negotiates with Iran, Libya, Syria and anyone who has backed terrorism or radical factions that have sought to take over their respective nations.

Here in the US of A he will not negotiate with his fellow countrymen, the citizens of this nation who want their freedom, the citizens who believe in the Bible as the inspired word of God, the citizens that bear him no ill will, we just want him to leave us alone.

It occurs to me that we should have an advertisement that states the golden rule in a paraphrase “Treat people the way you want to be treated.” And then point out that Obama will not follow the golden rule, he has exempted himself and all his friends from Obamacare.

I was going to look up a Madison quote from the Federalist papers about how the House controls the purse strings and should weild that power as the Republicans are using it today, but I don’t have time right now.

    • Petronius says:

“The House of Representatives cannot only refuse, but they alone can propose, the supplies requisite for the support of government. They, in a word, hold the purse…. This power over the purse may, in fact, be regarded as the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people, for obtaining a redress of every grievance, and for carrying into effect every just and salutary measure.”

Digital Public Library Of America (DPLA) Launches To Public

After two and a half years of planning, the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA), the U.S.’s first public online-only library, opened its doors today — or at least was made publicly available on the Internet.
The DPLA is a free, open-source resource that makes a number of digital collections and archives across the country available in one place. It launched as a series of partnerships with the Smithsonian, the National Archives, New York Public Library, the University of Virginia, Harvard, Digital Library of Georgia, Minnesota Digital Library, Mountain West Digital Library and others. All of the text, photos, videos and audio contained in the DPLA can be searched, or browsed by place or time on the DPLA website.
The DPLA will surface rarities to the American public, such as a 1919 home movie of an African-American backyard baseball game

this is the Dawn of The New World Order Of Politically Correct Information.
soon those pesky Founding Fathers and those Racist Documents will quietly disappear.
this will be the sole source of “information” Schools and “fact checking” will come from.

      “YES WE CAN!”
