President Obama To Bring Back Slavery

[Please scroll down for updates.]

From President-Select Obama’s new website Change.gov:

“Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.”

Someone should tell Mr. Obama that Mr. Lincoln freed the slaves.

While they are at it, they should also tell this Constitutional scholar that the Constitution now forbids involuntary servitude:

Amendment XIII

Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

The Republican Party got rid of slavery 143 years (and a bloody Civil War) ago.

And the Democrats have been working ever since to bring it back.

It should be noted that when this “service” program was mention during the campaign it sounded quite “voluntary.”

Indeed, there was even a financial incentive promised.

From the Obama campaign site:

“Obama and Biden will set a goal that all middle and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year, and will establish a new tax credit that is worth $4,000 a year in exchange for 100 hours of public service a year.”

What a difference an election makes.

Hilariously, the Change.gov “Service” page has now been changed:

Suddenly, all mention of “required” has been disappeared. And the college tuition incentive has been added.

Maybe this is what they mean by “change.”

As of this hour all of the individual pages where Mr. Obama listed great his plans for our future have been removed.

Except for his “Service” page, where the word “require” has been replaced with words like “encourage” — and a $4,000 college tuition incentive.

Yet the Obama campaign still claim to have these plans, and that they are ready to “rule” on day one:

The Agenda

President-Elect Obama and Vice President-Elect Biden have developed innovative approaches to challenge the status quo in Washington and to bring about the kind of change America needs.

The Obama Administration has a comprehensive and detailed agenda to carry out its policies. The principal priorities of the Obama Administratin [sic] include: a plan to revive the economy, to fix our health care, education, and social security systems, to define a clear path to energy independence, to end the war in Iraq responsibly and finish our mission in Afghanistan, and to work with our allies to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, among many other domestic and foreign policy objectives.

They just are afraid of anyone seeing them.

Just in case anyone think Mr. Obama is not serious about this, bear in mind that his new Chief of Staff wrote a book demanding this very thing:

Amazon.com: The Plan: Big Ideas for America: Rahm Emanuel, Bruce Reed: Books

Rahm Emanuel wants us to have compulsory national service just like Israel.

  2. DW says:

And for the younger crowd, let’s not forget the Spies and the Junior Anti-sex League (since 1984 is being bandied about)…

  3. 1sttofight says:

    I don’t think so….

  4. DW says:

Steve, how enforceable would that be?
Unless things are radically different there than they are here, we’re hard enough pressed to get people -especially the younger crowd- to show up to their regular jobs when they’re supposed to.

Muscling seniors, gun owners, conservative bloggers and the like, is one thing -none of us would ever vote for him anyway -but pissing off America’s youth…?

  5. sheehanjihad says:

yeah, let one of those smarmy bastards try to get me to do community service. I am doing the community a service by staying in my house clinging to my bible and guns.

  6. DEZ says:

“Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.”
    Require? Require?
Is it not bad enough that we are already slave labor for four months a year via taxation?
This guy is gonna get a lot of people killed!

  7. Steve says:

“Unless things are radically different there than they are here, we’re hard enough pressed to get people -especially the younger crowd- to show up to their regular jobs when they’re supposed to.”

If it’s a law, it will be enforced. I’m sure there will be some sugary incentives thrown in. (Reduced tuition, for example.)

But once they get started down this path, there is no end to it.

  8. sheehanjihad says:

Remember when I said I wasnt going quietly? This may well be the litmus test for that. I simply am not going to do it. Period.

  9. JohnMG says:

    DEZ; …..”Require? Require?…..”

Sorry, Barry. I’ve already had my ticket punched. A long time ago. This time around I elect to be the “punch-er” instead of the “punch-ee”!

  10. sheehanjihad says:

For that matter, sticking me in the middle of a bunch of impressionable middle schoolers wouldnt be such a great idea, because I would do them the service of telling them what a bunch of asswipes their parents are for voting the way they did. And I wouldnt stop there. but, no matter. I served my community already. It’s time they served me back. They would best do that by not asking what a “tater stick” is again.

  11. Professor_Repulso says:

Will we all get one of those spiffy red neckties as sported by members of the Young Communists League?

  12. bill says:

Don’t forget they want a Gestapo/KKK civilian force the size of the pentagon to keep everybody inline and things running smoothly.

    Reject Obamunism.

  13. DGA says:

I really wanted to comment on this atrocity of a dumb idea here but the actual words that I need to use Steve won’t let me say, this is a mixed forum after all.

Remember, if you have employees, and after the orwellian tax codes come into play, make notes on whom voted obama, and fire them when the time comes. Hell, fire them now if you need to. Justice well served I think.

  14. DEZ says:

When do I get my Obama youth knife?

  15. sheehanjihad says:

When do I get my Obama youth knife?

out of my community organizer’s gut

  16. platypus says:

Well, SG, it looks like you’ll have to change your once-a-week thingy from a bunch of busy bees to a horde of angry hornets.

And it’s their own damn fault for smacking a hive of conservatives with a stick.

  17. BatK says:

Sarah Palin was wrong at the RNC… a community organizer apparently does quite a bit :)

  18. DW says:

Will this apply to people on welfare as well?
(not to mention dead people -many of whom no doubt voted for BHO 2 days ago)

I just can’t see it guys. At least, I can’t see it lasting beyond the nearest election.

  19. DEZ says:

“out of my community organizer’s stomach.’

Just leave it there, its already been put to good use!

  20. JohnMG says:

    sheehanjihad; …..”out of my community organizer’s stomach…..”

He asked WHEN sj, not WHERE!

  21. sheehanjihad says:

Its crap like this that will bring to the forefront a conservative leader who will begin the arduous task of reclaiming this country. I see a ton of resistance to this “require” thing. It wont fly.

  22. BatK says:

isn’t the point of volunteering that the fact that it’s VOLUNTARY?

  23. DEZ says:

“isn’t the point of volunteering that the fact that it’s VOLUNTARY?”

Not any more, and yes, its an Obamination.

  24. sheehanjihad says:

BatK…ever have a gunnery sergeant come up and say, “I need three volunteers for latrine duty!”? DW! Professor! DEZ! get yer spades! You volunteered! SJ has to take a pelosi and wipe his schumer!

  25. DEZ says:

Well now that gives a new meaning to, I love the smell of napalm in the morning.

  26. BigOil says:

50 hours of community service from middle schoolers. How is he going to pry the Playstation out of their hands for 50 hours?

  27. Exeter says:

SJ – so glad you picked DW, the Prof and DEZ for that detail, and left the Air Force weenie alone to read his novel. (Get back to work, you guys – that hole ain’t gonna dig itself!)

  28. Professor_Repulso says:

Well, a big cat can cover up a lot of mess.

  29. texaspsue says:

“50 hours of community service from middle schoolers.”

Yeah, can you imagine the quality of service that they will provide? Service with an attitude.

And this is just day two. Oh boy howdy… ain’t we got fun?

  30. sheehanjihad says:

the communities wouldnt need any “volunteers” to help at all if the liberal progressives hadnt screwed up our society so bad to start with. They are demanding I do service to clean up the mess they created?!

uh, not only no, but hell no!

  31. Byrd says:

Do you suppose he got the idea from Farrakhan and the Rules For Radicals of Saul Alinsky?

  32. Moonspinner says:

    Typical socialist agenda.

  33. BatK says:

I’m also a bit leery of the government telling us what does and does not constitute “community service.”

  34. BigOil says:

I’m waiting breathlessly to find out more about the “Clean Energy Corps”. I envision rooms full of people on stationary bikes hooked up to generators.

  35. DGA says:

I’ll rot in jail before I do one second of forced community service under this marxist agenda.

  36. BatK says:

DGA, you may rot in jail when you refuse to burn incense to Emperor Obama

  37. DW says:

I envision rooms full of people on stationary bikes hooked up to generators.

Or maybe people who spy on their neighbours and report every potential wastage of energy (I believe the UK already has something along these lines).

The poor bastards on stationary bikes will be part of the re-education camps.

  38. DGA says:

“I envision rooms full of people on stationary bikes hooked up to generators”

Or even “The Matrix” type of human power generation.

  39. texaspsue says:

Wow! We could write one heck of a science fiction novel with all of this material and call it, The Obama Chronicles.

  40. Professor_Repulso says:

I think their loophole is the phrase “…except as a punishment for crime…”. He didn’t mention his Kangaroo Kourt Krew that will dispense speedy justice on slackers, the primary charges being ‘selfishness’ and ‘racism’.

  41. Anonymoose says:

I would just like to know what kind of “service: Obama is demanding? It sounds good on paper and to the liberal parents to say they want the kids to learn good citizenship skills blah blah blah, but what will they be doing? Unless of course this whole plan isn’t service but just to provide free labor for whatever, replace the government employees who’ll be lost when the taxes are cut.

And the Windfall Profits Tax to send a $1,000 Emergency Energy Rebate to American Families for jump starting the economy? Aren’t these the same people who earlier this year were talking about Bush’s $600 Stimulus Checks as a waste of time? The difference is Bush wasn’t taking the money from the corporations, but it’ll be interesting how this will be spun as a must have that will save the day. Meanwhile it’ll go towards beer and Playstations.

And I’m already seeing banner ads about how he’s a “fan” of clean coal. I’ll give him this, his marketing department works fast.

Somebody stop the Planet of the Apes, I want to get off………

  42. curvyred says:

I will fight this with every fiber of my being.

My children do volunteer work, but they will not be following some “government mandate” that is against the Constitution.

  43. Jeffersonian says:

While your point is valid, I believe it to be based on a fasle presumption. You note that “Mr. Lincoln freed the slaves”, but you failed to note that Mr. Roosevelt and Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Johnson placed them back in bondage. While people shout to the heavens that they are “free at last”, they cannot seem to notice that they are slaves to the great massa in Washinton who, as all good slave drivers do, provides for his servants every need so long as they remain loyal and do as they are instructed. We live in an age of institutional slavery, by which government enslaves the people by making them wholely dependant upon the master, and continues to provide so long as the servants obey. That obedience includes voting and acting as instructed. Aren’t these people told that unless they vote as instructed that “someone” will take away that which is being provided them, be that welfare, social security or whatever entitlement? Slavery is alive and well, it is just acceptable so long as it serves the almighty state rather than the private enterprise. Slavery is indeed a deplorable institution, but it is even more so when it is veiled as an act of compassion.

What the hell is the “Office of the President-Elect”?

  46. Lurkin_no_mo says:

I’m assuming that those of us that still serve our nation in the military will have to play this game, too. I guess our sacrifices aren’t enough.
If this is suppose to be mandatory, I really don’t think it will pass the Supreme test.

  47. crosspatch says:

    1. Congress will never pass it.
    2. Every citizen already has a 6 year obligation.
    3. Government can not compel anyone under 15 to do anything except go to school (re: posse comitatus) and the school requirement is on the parent, not the child . So you can forget about the whole “middle-school” thing.

I say fine if EVERY SINGLE PERSON in this country gets 50 hours in learning how to use a firearm.

  48. Lurkin_no_mo says:

crosspatch, I started to write a post agreeing with you, but then thought, crap, then all the hoods would actually know how to shoot, rather than using their preferred method of holding it sideways and pulling off all the rounds in the magazine.

  49. crosspatch says:

Lurkin: there’s more good ones than bad ones. Give EVERYONE a course in how to shoot and the hoods won’t feel so intimidating anymore knowing the person next to them can shoot just as well as they can.

Oh, and ask the public service unions how they would like having their functions being done by free “community service” labor.

  50. brad says:

This will be the new definition of “MISERABLE FAILURE.”

No person wants, or should be, the pack mule for another. Once students get their assignments, they will realize they are the only ones doing any work.

I had to do 20 hours of community service, and I did it all at the Salvation Army. Once you do that service, you will most likely become a Conservative. The textbooks give 1001 excuses for poor people, but when you get there, you see people of vice. How about the single black mother of 9! 9? 9 f*king children? Guess what? From 5 different fathers! (That she can recall). Whose fault is that? Society? (aren’t liberals part of society?) Or the woman so fat and stupid, her and her daughter live at the S.A. How about not smoking cigarettes and eating McDonalds you fat cow. How can you be so fat with no money? Ech….

This is a good chance for liberals to see how pathetic people are. Mostly, students will give a half-hearted attempt, or none at all, and sabotage the whole project. It won’t work.
If people were so happy to help out, we wouldn’t need to FORCE people into it. Obama is basically tying slavery to passing school. “You want to pass college eh? Well you better do this if you want to get a good grade and a descent job buddy!”

  51. BillK says:

I think the keys to the 13th Amendment are:

    1) It forbids involuntary servitude; SCOTUS will likely rule that publicly financed schools means those students are receiving remuneration in the form of their education so it’s actually work-for-hire.

    2) The Amendment says Congress has the power to enforce it, not that it must.

Why do I somehow think volunteering at a church won’t count as community service but spending time at a Democrat candidate’s office will?

  52. RightWinger says:

Yeah the libs think this will be a good thing for their children to learn civics and responsibility. Bah!

Wait till these Obama supporters who have “Peace Corps” college kids, find out they are going to be sent to 3rd world hell holes such as Kenya and Sudan to do their 100 hours of “service”. Wait till a couple of 19 year old girls are kidnapped and held for ransom in Zimbabwae. Wait till a group of Peace corps college kids are captured and killed in Indonesia by some Muslim extremists. Those are the places those kids are going to be sent to, not some cushy clean-up detail at some resort in Cancun.

Wait till they find out their middle school aged kids are not going to be doing community service in their safe suburban town one month because there is not enough to do. But a nice crime infested neighborhood, say Camden, or Newark in NJ, is going to be your child’s destination while the inner city youth have been given a free pass because they already live a “hard life”. Maybe their child will be one of the lucky ones to not get hit when that stray bullet flies past during some drive by shooting or some gang initiation thing.

Today at work, one of my co-workers who voted for Obama came by to rub it in. I laughed and said don’t worry about me, I would start worrying about your 401K. When he asked why, I said don’t worry, you’ll find out soon enough. I also told him he better start figuring out how much it costs to rent a house in his area and figure out the difference between that and what he is paying in mortgage. Again he asked why and I said again you’ll find out soon enough. He then said I was just trying to mess with him. I said I don’t care if you think I am playing around or not, you’ll find out what is going to happen soon enough.

He didn’t have kids, otherwise I would have told him to get ready to watch his child doing free labor for the state.

  53. BannedbytheTaliban says:

Again, everybody should read Sinclair Lewis’ “It Can’t Happen Here.” Of course Lewis was a liberal, borderline socialist, deathly afraid of fascism. But his fear was justified. He was just on the wrong side of the fence.

My biggest question is how can they enforce this? It’s going to go over real well to see a bunch of middle schoolers being hauled off to gulags at the behest of Barry.

  54. retire05 says:

Have y’all forgotten what Obama said during the campaign? He said that he would tie the “community service” of the middle school and high school children into public school financing. It was pretty well ignored by the kneepad, fawning media when he said it, but basically, the schools will be required to make sure the little kiddies are compliant. Or no money for that school. How are you going to force hundreds of millions of kids to do his bidding?

Well, there will be those school districts that will try to enforce this “requirement” making sure the kiddies are compliant because they can’t afford to lose the federal school funding money. But there are thousands of schools like the one in my small Texas town where the principal and the school board members are bible carrying, gun toting (deer hunters) who will not say “Yes, we can” but “No you don’t”. Schools will simply refuse federal funding. Hell, our school district gets very little money from the Fed being mostly funded by our property taxes. Drop all the illegals we send to school here, and our budget will go down. We can then get rid of all those extra Spanish as a Second Language teachers, the extra trailers required for class rooms, and no have to pay for their free lunches.

A friend of my yanked her kids out of one public school because she had purchased all the things on the list at the beginning of the year for her kids to use in class (pencils, notebook paper, copy paper, kleenex, erasers, marker, well, you get the idea) and for three kids, it was not cheap. When the kids got there the first day, the teachers were ordered to take all the supplies and put them in one big pile. Then the teachers handed the supplies out as needed. The principal said it was because there were so many kids whose parents didn’t have the money to buy supplies (in central Texas that reads “illegals”) so it was only fair. That lasted one year. The next year the parents were up in arms and said that if that was the way it was going to be, they were not going to buy any supplies and would send their kids to school with just what was needed that day. The school board overruled the principal, but by that time, a lot of kids had transferred out.

If the schools start refusing to accept federal funding, how’s the Obamassiah going to enforce that “requirement” for servitude? What happens when parents start moving out of school districts that rely heavily on federal funding? The only kids left will be the ones whose parents are drunk on Obamaide to begin with.

This new President-elect has some lofting, albiet socialist, goals.

When I was a kid it was kind of a tradition that my Irish grandmother would tell people who just showed up at the house to sit down and stay a spell and they would “talk a little treason”. She was referring to the fight for Irish independence. “A revolution now and then is good for the soul” she would say.

Are we about to come into a age of a the “new” revolution?

One little piece of advise for all you gun owners: if you have them listed on your homeowners insurance, take them off. If you belong to the NRA (as I did for years) and you insure them through the NRA, don’t. Make sure there is no written record of your weapons, be they a kid’s first .22 or your deer rifle.
The results on November 4, 2008 put the Second Amendment in peril.

  55. BannedbytheTaliban says:

Word has gotten out. I’ve tried to go to the change.gov site. Under america serves all it says now is NEED CONTENT. However, SG’s link still works. I’m sure they are ironing out those little details so us right minded people won’t freak out, at least not until its too late.

  56. electionhangovervictim says:

New to this site and so very glad I found it. Unlike those stinking bleeding heart liberals, nobody here seems to have their head stuck up their a**.

And to sheehanjihad…you are cracking me up. I think I love you.

Ok, onto this mandatory service thing…this is just one of the many changes Obama is going to make that will screw up this country even more than it already is.

  57. Sharps Rifle says:

I already did my service…in uniform, in an aircraft, in some of the rottenest TDY locations imagineable! I teach and I ranch, and I honestly have NO USE for some draftee squatting in my classroom spouting the “Dear Leader’s” gas! As for when I turn 55, I don’t plan to do any more “service!” Service is VOLUNTARY…slavery is forced, and this faux American wants us all to be his damned slaves…and the idiot kids who voted for him (anyone up for raising the minimum age to vote to 40? And then denying the franchise to NY, PA, NJ, CT, DE, RI, IL, OH, IA, IN,MA, MI, NH, ME, VT, CA, VA around DC, DC, MD, NM, CO, OR, WA, HI, NC around the cities, and FL in Miami, Orlando and West Palm?)

We’d better gear up and provide some serious resistance to this fascist creep before he places his hand on a koran and officially assumes power, or this country is finished!

  58. A Mad Pole says:

EHV….welcome to you! We do not suffer from cranial rectal inversion here, not at all. You are in good company, and as for being in love with me……awwwwwww shucks. (as long as you are female) (or I will have to go vote on prop 8 in californicate). WE are America here. This is one of the few places where you can get the actual truth on a daily basis. Ok, I have to go report to my community service administrator now….he’s banging up the inside of my trunk again.

  61. JohnMG says:

retire05; …..”Make sure there is no written record of your weapons…..”

For anyone who thinks there is nothing wrong with REASONABLE restrictions on gun ownership, ask yourself this question. Why do you suppose there is such a push to require transactions at gun shows and between private individuals be subject to the NICS check?

And do you REALLY believe there is no electronic record being kept of those background checks? Remember, if the hard drive isn’t completely destroyed, the info is retrievable.

    ……”from my cold, dead hands”….

  62. electionhangovervictim says:

sheehan…yup, I’m a female, so no need to worry. :O)

  63. retire05 says:

JohnMG, all my guns were purchased a long, long time ago. I quit insuring them through the NRA 20 years ago. Obama’s storm troopers can’t come get what they don’t know I have. And if it comes to that point, I won’t be the only one aiming at them.

  64. Kilmeny says:

I think I’ve finally found the most compelling reason imaginable to brush up on my math and science and take the little darlings out of a public school system I already despise. Compared to Obama’s plan to make slaves of us all, Hillary seems like a veritable goddess of reason. Already the schools teach these children nothing, now they’re going to waste even more time by making them go clean up after such people as Peggy the Moocher?

As I’ve been telling the Obamaniacs around here since Tuesday, you should have been more careful what you wished for.

  65. BatK says:

It will be interesting to see what happens when all of the people who were expecting to get something for nothing all of a sudden wake up and realize that it’s the other way around…

  66. cerberus6 says:

Posters here are questioning how could this socialist program of compulsory public service even be enforced (and in the case of attention deficit challenged youth- supervised).

Why, call in the National Civilian Security Force (NCSF)! (Catchy martial music here to goose-step to)

The NCSF is the ultimate community organization!

I’m betting that will be a big priority for the new Chairman President to get started (because he is to really going need it) – and he already has the framework laid with his Acorn gang and campaign team – plenty of future grueppenfuehrers there.

I’m sure there will be a National Civilian Workforce arm, a National Public Services Arm for public development and political reinforcement to the population (these agents for progress will help our comrades in their public service duties), an Armed Internal Security Force and of course a NCSF Personal Protection Detail of hand -picked members of the NCSF to provide “additional” security (and muscle) to loyal party leaders. Big question here will be, do they go with the thugs in bowtie outfits or the black fatigues and red berets….ok for the monitors of the National Public Services, aprons and cattle prods…

And why not a legion of Commissars “public policy mediators” to monitor and enforce carbon emission policy, report cases of newly defined extremism, investigate excesses of public baselines for wealth and consumption, confiscate from those that are not able to keep up on their patriotic tax obligations and on and on. They would be like the auxillary to the FBI on steroids and at each level of office out rank their FBI counter-part even though they hold the same supervisory rank.

Retire05 is right, Obama will evade his campaign claims that he firmly believes in our second amendment rights by having his willing liberal administration cave to the UN at the first opportunity that International Gun Control comes up for a declaration in the UN (See John Bolton’s book “Surrender is not an Option” for a better narrative of the maneuvers at the UN over this issue in the recent past). The intent of the UN declaration is partly aimed at domestic US gun control issues. So as our new government drastically reduces, if not eliminates our second amendment rights, all under the imperative of complying with the will of the “international community”, a National Civilian Security Force would be exceptional useful in controlling State Government entities (particularly those that have promised dissention and threatened succession) and tracking and collecting firearms from private citizens. If extreme liberal policies are unpalatable and unpopular, the police and military may not be so reliable in implementation. Send a nice young NCSF member to serve you notice of your responsibility under the new law to disarm and then send the Police or armed NCSF when the “criminal” refuses.

Para-military and “peoples” security forces are useful for community organizers in dictatorial or extreme socialist states – at least before the purges are done or the military co-opted (not going to easily happen in our forces today, thankfully). And this organization is going to rival the DOD for size and budget? That is some “Force”!

Wait till we sign up to the ICC (International Criminal Court) and are challenged to turn-over military and civilian leaders for international trials based on charges filed by hostile foreign governments. Again, better to have your own “Brown shirts” to round up the usual suspects, and keep the police and other agencies, marginally on side with your government. What a motivator for those military brass who aren’t team players – hint that they could be spared the ICC if they play ball.

And, like Smoking Joe Biden said – we may not understand why the new government reacts to that promised future crisis – and we the people may balk at curfews, prohibition to gather/demonstrate, martial law, suspension of means of free communication and speech, further taxation without representation, subjugation of national sovereignty on issues/policy and law to external organizations or whatever other REAL suspension of liberties they may feel compelled to enforce for the “greater good”.

How does the Obama administration handle a population that does not willingly change to his socialist vision?

How does he deal with all those individuals in the military and local/Federal service that swore to protect the public and the US constitution?

How does he persuade those citizens that disagree to get with the program, to join the party, to move forward and change???

The National Civilian Security Force will set you free!

You are not paranoid if they really are out to get you.

  67. Liberals Demise says:

Of course it is only fair. After all, Obama put in his time in selfless “public service.”

He helped ACORN/Project Vote get out the vote for Carol Mosely Braun.

Of course ACORN did the same thing for Obama in the very next elections — and every election thereafter.

But working for 501c3 “charities” like ACORN and La Raza is surely what this is going to boil down to. Giving the DNC more footsoldiers.

  72. soccermom says:

Kilmeny…don’t wait to brush up on anything -take the kids out of the indoctrination factory (public school) and homeschool now. We let our older two remain in high school but it was really a lot of work to overcome the indoctrination. But thanks to hubby making both of them get jobs in high school, the taxes out portion of their paychecks resulted in a come to Jesus moment for them. All Daddy said when they complained about the amount taken out was “welcome to the Republican party sweethart!” The younger ones will never see the inside of the factory!

  73. Helena says:

“But working for 501c3 “charities” like ACORN and La Raza is surely what this is going to boil down to. Giving the DNC more footsoldiers.”

That’s got to be it, SG. No more pre-paid VISA cards. They want free labor to sign up yet more idiots to vote for them and thus stay in power forever.

  74. firstinaction says:

    SG/Helena, all

Yes, its the NON PROFIT sector he mentioned he wants to strengthen. Its all connected.
He has a master plan to control and keep control and it includes all the young people and it will be next to impossible to oppose.

I will not be forced to do ANYTHING with MY PERSONAL TIME.
Nor will my friends or my friend’s kids.
They will volunteer for WHAT and WHEN they want.
Seriously, people, we might have to all move to one state and try to secede. Maybe this is why Todd Palin was involved with that AIP thing . A vision of the future ???
And that coward McCain did not really put up a fight. Also, he agreed to ban the Confederate Flag. That flag was just a historical memento. Now, what other symbols and icons will be TORN DOWN? Maybe, all past PRESIDENTS who don’t pass the SOCIAL JUSTICE litmus test ? Maybe, all statues of COLUMBUS ???
A gradual replacement and dissapearance of all our history …..it has already begun….no Washington or Lincoln birthday, just PRESIDENTS day, but we have Martin Luther King DAY. Less time off for Christmas, public Christmas displays challenged, but,…HOLIDAY decorations.
This is EXACTLY what Soviet Russia did.

  80. btown says:

Um, I don’t know about anybody else, but I had to do that much community service in middle school and high school.

I remember I once picked up a bunch of rocks off a soon-to-be-soccer field, helped paint a mural for some homeless garden project, tutored some third graders in-class. Handed out donuts to seniors after bingo.

Nothing entirely special. Nobody liked having to do community service, but we got through it, fudged some hours, got the signatures. Just another hoop to jump through, like that BS No Child Left Behind testing; at least with community service I made a soccer field less dangerous.

Did anyone else have to do community service in school? Or am I seriously alone on this one?

  81. wardmama4 says:

I thought that these people despise the draft, slavery and conscription – I guess it really is in the marketing. There is a reason that salesmen (used car dealers in particular) and lawyers always head the least trusted list.

  82. electionhangovervictim says:

Can I just say that reading everybody’s comments is a bittersweet thing? What we’re discussing is the start of scary 4 years for our country, but it makes me feel better just knowing that I’m not alone…that there’s others out there who share my concerns….I was starting to think that that awful disease called liberalism had hit in epidemic proportions.

  83. sheehanjihad says:

ehv….we have been living with liberalism for years now as evidenced by what our society has become. It is the onslaught of true socialism that has everyone nervous. But I agree that you are far from alone…as a matter of fact, I will start making you your own “tater stick” right away to put a groove in the forehead of your block Capo once the indoctrination starts in earnest come January 20th. Fret you not. We will prevail.

  84. texaspsue says:

electionhangovervictim, sometimes I wonder how long we will be able to “discuss” these issues…. I’m just saying…

“I’m assuming that those of us that still serve our nation in the military will have to play this game, too.”

Hey maybe we can buy national service program “credits”. (Like carbon credits.) I know all of our Servicemen and Veterans better be able to claim them. And God bless you Lurkin, for your service to our Country.

  85. Liberals Demise says:

Fudged some hours? Got some signatures?Jump through some hoops? Middle School? What did you get caught doing? Skipping school? Smokin’ in the boysroom? Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts did community service for badges.
I ain’t bangin’ on ya btown, just wondering.

  86. Rmy-mac-was-here says:

How in the heck is anyone going to mandate or require voluntary service? Isn’t this one of those oxy-morons?
Serious problems coming up in the future folks.
I forsee an attack on the Heller decision. How about this?: Urban Safety and Security Act of 2009- All Urbanized jurisdictions may at their own choice; control firearm sale, possession, transportation and storage in their jurisdictions. The controls will not accede current federal regulations for identification of restrictions. The right of ownership will be strictly be adhered to. Exceptions to this would be Mental deficincy, Criminal history, advocation of government overthrow (all the NO blocks on the current form). What they don’t list would be that: it must be registered (city knows you have it and how many; if not your a violator); you must store it within the guidelines that the city describes (in a central city armory or in gun safe in your house) if not your a violator.
Mainly it would: open the door for suppression of 2nd amendment rights.
Next lets attack one of the outlets of conservative ideas and silence it.
Hey they already aproved an old hack (Mr Rivera) that was fired by Pres Reagan for FCC Chairmanship. This man does NOT like talk radio. He is pro fairness doctrine. He will utilize the firness doctrine to force radio play balance. Mainly, I supect it is bc talk radio was a venue for the propagation of conservative ideas and thought. Think of Rush Limbaugh and his popularity and success with the syndication of his show in talk radio.
Its very simple, nobody listened to air america (liberal radio network) and it went bankrupt. People listen to RL. It is successful because it sells advertizing. Its sells advertising because people like to listen to it.
If I owned a radio station, and had RL for 2 hrs a day, and was mandated to put on a program for the same amount of hours that will lose me money. Here are my choices, stop RL play, or put on the AA play and suck up the lost revenue.
Ive even seen some liberals comparing RL to hate speech saying that it should be regulated exactly like pornography. How the heck are you going to do that on radio?
    What do you think?

  87. Colonel1961 says:

I guess 40% (or more) of my gross earnings just isn’t enough? How selfish of me… I should be more patriotic!

  88. btown says:

Haha, it’s all right LD, but to clarify: Yep, this community service was mandatory for everyone at my school, from the get-go. Kinda made us wish we did something bad to earn it. Worst thing I ever did was cussin’ – and a lot of it, which I’m not proud of. Oh, and one time I punched this kid in the gut in 5th grade, but truuuust me he deserved it.

In other nearby districts, though I can’t confirm, I did get the distinct impression it was the same for them. Now I get the impression that it’s not AT ALL mandatory for schools outside my own, so I’ll just say this: It wasn’t the end of the world. It just sucked to hand out donuts when I could have been playing guitar at my friend’s house.

  89. sheehanjihad says:

He asked WHEN sj, not WHERE!

Oh, yeah. Hmmmm…then after I clean it off?

  90. DEZ says:

btown, I am not sure where you went to school, But I have never heard of community service not being voluntary on a students part, I did some in high school to earn points for my ROTC, but it was still voluntary, plus the place gave us all a fair tip.

  91. sheehanjihad says:

What bugged me the most was the “everybody of all ages” thing. I have more than enough to do right now without having to pander to liberal feel good horsecrap. And since I will have to get a second job to cover my new tax rate, I will have even less time for treavor and muffy’s “clean the riverbank” effort. They can bite me.

  98. Bob W says:

I think the idea of mandatory service is extremely dubious, to say the least; I blogged about the concept today here. I really think that anyone who states that “hey, it’s no big deal, just a couple of hours” should think about what they are writing; you are statin in effect, that you’re willing to let the government mandate a certain number of YOUR days each year working on something the government has deemed worth your while; Last time I checked, you can’t reset the clock, once time passes it’s gone. I would rather keep my own counsel on how I spend my time, not let a bureaucrat decide what I should be doing. Better to live in a cynical, selfish world than an orwellian one, no?

Whoever wrote about the three months’ worth of taxes as compulsory service already in effect, that was a GREAT point!

I would imagine that the implementation of this endeavor would require an additional civil servant work force, another drain on the federal budget, probably unionized, too. Great stuff, I hope this one dies on the vine.

  99. Bob W says:

That was a mistype on the statin, I meant stating, I dun got me un edukashun!

Hey SG, love us or not, we’re great feedback. Not many details go unnoticed. A little sarcastic with sick humor sometimes but, you have to admit this website has great commentary, from fine Americans that promotes honest feedback. Better than any paid control group anyday. LOL

  106. crosspatch says:

“Suddenly, all mention of “required” has been disappeared. ”

Sounds like someone educated them on the law. There is no way anyone under 15 could be pressed involuntarily into government service. Anyone 15 and over could be, in theory, but it would take implementation of a draft to do that and the draft laws would need to be modified to allow people under 18 to be drafted. In theory anyone 15 years or older can be drafted according to common law as that is the normal definition of Posse Comitatus. For example, your local sheriff could order your 15 year-old son to assist in catching a crook but not your 14 year-old. And the same is true for raising any kind of government force for anything. They could go as low as 15 but no lower. Even then it would take an act of Congress to create such a program unless Obama put it under an existing budget such as the Peace Corps. So his Change Brigades would likely fall flat.

That being said, Obama is taking advantage of a powerful force in human psychology. Young people have a hunger for leadership. They want to play a role. They want to work toward making things better. He is offering that. He is feeding that.

I remember when Carter gave his “malaise” speech and I was something like 19 or 20. I wrote to him telling him that I was ready and willing, just give me a job to do. I got no response. Obama is playing into that. Kennedy played into that in the 1960’s with the Peace Corps. Obama is taking advantage of the natural energy and enthusiasm of youngsters to want to play a role. Too bad Republicans don’t do that. Get the kids involved, don’t act like a bunch of Archie Bunkers!

  107. angryredhen says:

Personally, I think we’d form a pretty good little school ourselves…when my daughter said the blessing at dinner she prayed that “Obama not destroy our country or the constitution.” She’s 13.

  110. 12 Gauge Rage says:

Hello everyone, I’m new to this site but have found the comments both interesting and very amusing. Yes, like every other conservative, I’m disappointed that McCain/Palin didn’t win but such is life. As King Solomon stated very profoundly, “there’s a time for everything.” Now that Obama is poised to become POTUS, we must learn to work with him when it’s in the best interest of our country, and strongly oppose him when it’s not. Hopefully nothing will come of this community service program of his, for life itself has taught me that most people don’t like doing something against their will, even if it’s for a good cause.

  111. Lipstick on a PIAPS says:

  115. 12 Gauge Rage says:

I’ve always stated to my wife that a presidential candidate makes many friends on the campaign trail based on the promises he makes and then makes many enemies of those friends once he assumes power when he realizes he can’t fulfill them. I not saying that it’s etched in stone that Obama will do what’s best for the country. Note that I used the word ‘when’ regarding what Obama thinks is best for our country, maybe I should have used the word if. Given what I’ve seen of Obama’s voting record it’s pretty scary. Perhaps I came across the wrong way, but yes I am a conservative. Voted republican in every election, my first was the Reagan/Carter election. Incidentally, my wife is half swedish and I’ve visited Sweden. A beautiful country with nice friendly people but they’re all so heavily taxed to sustain their enormous welfare-socialist society. And a lot of them don’t like that. So yes, I too don’t like socialism either. For from what I’ve seen it only encourages mediocrity and criticizes that who wish to get ahead.

  116. sheehanjihad says:

well 12 Gauge Rage……welcome to our enclave of like minded individuals!! Good to have you!

  117. texaspsue says:

Take no offense 12 Gauge Rage. Welcome. :-)

While I may not share all of it, I understand your sentiment. Your comment “there’s a time for everything” is true, it is also the time to be ever vigilant.

  118. 12 Gauge Rage says:

Don’t worry. I wasn’t offended. I’ve learned to develop a pretty thick hide after spending twenty years in the military. And half of those twenty years were spent as a mid-level shift supervisor trying to keep peace among the wolves. And while I agree whole heartedly to be ever vigilant, let us go a step further and remember to keep our powder dry. I once saw a blogger write in that if you can’t secure your rights at the ballot box, then they need to be secured from the cartridge box. I hope that it never comes to that. But I have lots of ammo in my house just in case. Although I am running a little low on 12 gauge double 00 buck. Maybe on payday I’ll go to the local Wal-Mart and stock up. Like to chat some more but I promised my children that I would take them to Sea World tomorrow. Got to get some rest. God bless you all.

  122. Automat says:

    You guys need to relax.

There’s nothing wrong with doing some community service. I went to Catholic school for 12 years. I was required to complete 30 hours of community service in middle school. Three years to do 30 hours of community service? Not a problem for me or for any of my classmates.
In high school I had to do 80 hours of community service. I did 150 hours.

Help those less fortunate than you. You should try it sometime.

And I really love the idea of $4,000 for college tuition in exchange for 100 hours of community service. Plenty of other college students would agree with me.
    It’s a win/win situation.

I think 50 hours a year is a little high for a middle schooler, but other than that I don’t have a problem with this.

  123. Liberals Make Great Speedbumps says:

    Hey Automat,

First off, I doubt you’ll find too many folks around here who aren’t doing a fine job of handling life without your advice. We need to relax, please.

Good for you that you like helping others, that’s commendable. You won’t get an argument from anyone here on that point I feel safe saying. Where the problem lies is in Great Leader’s idea of the service being compulsory. I went to Catholic school also and I would have told any Nun or Priest to kiss my ass for suggesting the same. I’ll help others if I WANT TO, got it?

Just where do you think that $4000 is coming from? Do you think Obama can just fire up the printing presses and create new money? It doesn’t work that way and I don’t feel like having any more of my taxes being wasted on more useless liberal feel-good BS, if you don’t mind.

REQUIRE me to do community service, and I will tell you to go pound salt in your ass.

Just because “you” did it, doesnt mean it works for me. I didnt vote for Obama either, and I dont agree with any of his mandatory socialistic policies.

The difference is, when I went to school, we were taught real actual history. So that’s why people like me can see that this has happened before, and the result of each and every time socialism was foisted on an unwilling populace. Forced labor doesnt work. Neither, by the way, will I.

  127. Pedro says:

The word required is gone for now but you can’t trust these people with our liberty. It will return when they get the policy enacted. Wait until all of his supporters find out the truth.

  128. Zapem says:

Here is a cached copy of the original page before the Obamanites changed it to vague language again. Save it to your hard drives:

“The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.”

  129. jobeth says:

I think a few of us don’t get the point. Community service is a great thing…IF…and only IF it is voluntary. I would dare to say just about all of us have done or do now, loads of community service.

But don’t TELL me I have to do it.
IMHO I think we all should resist any and all of his attempts to make us do this community service. We should do all the community service we want but the key is to do what WE want…but NEVER report it to his watchdogs.

I for one voluntarily run my church’s media center that is open to the public as well as what ever else I am needed for. A fair amount weekly hours. But I would refuse to claim them. He wins if I do.

If there is anything good in all this is maybe this type of thing may open some eyes before the next election cycle (2yrs). Maybe we can blunt some of the stuff this little dictator has in mind for us by refusing to cooperate.

We either do it now while it’s easy or struggle to do it later. He has to see at least half of the US population are not eager little Obamabots with no will of our own.

  130. Helena says:

Hehe. The Obama page replacements for their former word “require” are a hoot. Now it’s “encourage” “set a goal that” and my personal favorite: “enable.” Charting the new Obamaspeak is going to be amusing.

  131. brad says:

Obama’s Hitler Youth program will teach all kids that volunteering for democrat approved voting blocks really really sucks! What better way to drive kids to the Republican party than to let them toil under the whip of liberalism.

I thought education was the direct responsibility of the states (10th Amendment). Why would a Constitutional “scholar” like Obama not figure out the federal gov’t has no jurisdiction over education…

We will see everything get flushed down the memory hole during his presidency. And b/c he’s black, he will get away with it, just like how all his bigotry and marxism was ignored.

  132. BigOil says:

In one days time BO’s community service plan has gone from servitude to a $40 per hour government job. Comforting to see we have elected a President with well thought out ideas. Can’t wait to see his response to an international crisis.

  133. Helena says:

BigOil – We saw exactly that kind of firm and steadfast sense of vision and purpose in his campaign. Whenever he made a statement that sounded like it was a core belief – if it got challenged – he changed it. As with Rev Wright – one minute it was “I could no more disown him than I could a member of my family” and the next minute he was banished. Same thing with his political positions. “Change” is right – whenever it’s expedient. He’s 47 years old. He’s not a child. And yet he’s a reed in the wind.

  134. Zapem says:

Why isn’t the media reporting this?

Why hasn’t anyone questioned Obama on the details?

Why wasn’t it in the debate?

  135. nick says:

I just went to the change.gov site and clicked on the “America Serves” link to see for myself. The word ‘require’ is not in the paragraph you have in post. What’s up with that?

  136. Zapem says:

    Check this out: http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=72659

“His name is Robert Gates, and he is the defense secretary.

    Gates invented the idea.

Last fall Gates began giving a series of speeches about the need to create a more modern State Department and a “civilian national security force” that could “deploy teams that combine agricultural specialists and engineers and linguists and cultural specialists who are prepared to go into some of the most dangerous areas alongside the military.”

Gates’ idea was big – seemingly as big as Obama’s $439 billion vision: “If we’ve got a State Department or personnel that have been trained just to be behind walls, and they have not been equipped to get out there alongside our military and engage, then we don’t have the kind of national security apparatus that is needed. That has to be planned for; it has to be paid for. Those personnel have to be trained. And they all have to be integrated.”

While McCain hasn’t personally suggested keeping Gates on in McCain administration, his national security adviser has.

Besides that, Gates is the establishment’s man. Check out the editorials calling on both McCain and Obama to keep him in his position – the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, why even the Roanoke Times, for heaven’s sake. The media establishment is gaga over Gates.

So, just wanted to let you know, whether you vote for McCain or Obama, you are very likely to get a very expensive if slightly ill-defined “civilian national security force” either way.

But don’t expect any debate about this.

Don’t expect either Obama or McCain to tell you they want to create a new multibillion-dollar bureaucracy – within the State Department, of all things.

This is on a need-to-know basis, at this point. And, right now, neither Obama or McCain believe you have any need to know.”

  137. sheehanjihad says:

“The word ‘require’ is not in the paragraph you have in post. What’s up with that?”

The Obama people sanitized it the minute they saw the the immediate groundswell of opposition to the word “require”.

They are, if nothing else, very quick to bleach a word or paragraph that may damage their agenda.

And who’s going to have to protect this namby-pamby “force” of civilians going into hostile territories? OUR guys! Like they don’t have enough to do. And my experience with this nation is that if you just ask, you get volunteers – ever heard of the SLC olympics? I volunteer in my kids’ classrooms every week, and NEVER log it in at the office, because the PTA keeps track of “their” volunteers. And I do plenty of charity work through my church, and I do it as a neighbor…gimme a break with this attitude that the government has to wipe my nose for me or nothing good will happen. I just about had a stroke when the day after the election BO says we need to revise the football playoffs approach – no more rankings cause that’s just not fair! I would say something along the lines of, “is there anyplace the government doesn’t stick its nose?” but then I remember I have some low-flow (non-flushing in other words) toilets in my house. Brilliant!

  140. JohnMG says:

BigOil; ….”In one days time BO’s community service plan has gone from servitude to a $40 per hour government job……”

I beg to differ. We’ve seen the plan morph into something else—-but it wasn’t his plan. Nor is any of the other bulls**t being suggested as his original thoughts. These are the proposals of his handlers–those responsible for his success–he’s merely the tool.

“Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain”!

  141. Helena says:

Nick – Look carefully at the top of the post. SG posted what was originally on the Obama site. But once he started discussing the language and constitutionality of requiring “voluntary” national service, and once the Obama internet monitors noticed that people were talking about their barely-disguised totalitarian plans, they changed the language. But the original version is at the top of this page.

“Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.”

Sorry to be so pedantic, but I’m not sure how much you didn’t notice.

angryredhen – you are SO right.

This is the touchy / feely crap introduced back in the Clinton regime. Hey, am I correct here? Now make the connection with the NFL.

  144. jobeth says:

    @ liberal demise

I totally agree you and will tell you a personal story in a moment but what I was as asking is did O actually say something this ridiculous about football or was this a tongue in cheek comment. Yeah, sometimes I’m a bit slow…(grin)

Back in 2000 right after my marriage to a Brit national, his daughter and some other family came over for a visit with us. My grandchildren were all out playing touch football (American) and his grandson was learning as well. He was about 8 at the time. My grands were about the same or slightly older.

This little grand of his was so “socialized” and non-competitive that he wound up crying because no one LET him have the ball. So sad. I had to explain our kids (at least in conserv families) are taught to be competitive. We love the competition. It was a touchy event at the time as we were trying to blend families.

Those kids over there are taught from the cradle not to compete. You know all the stuff that O. is trying to impliment here.

We MUST fight this garbage here.

Once I get started on what goes on in the UK I could go on for a very long time……ARRGGGG!!! My husband agrees with me. He is as conservative as we are on this blog. The UK is a beautiful country with great people but is so different from just a few years ago. Taking photos in London, it is hard to find a place to not include muslims in the background!

    Thanks for the response :-D.

New to the forum. You guys are a breath of fresh air. I am reading lots of common sense stuff here. I agree with soccer mom, I am planning on never letting my three year-old enter the public ed system. It will be homeschooling for him! I have two older kids that are ready to graduate high school, thankfully. What a joke our education system is, a dangerous and corrupt joke. I am wondering if Hussein will be outlawing homeschooling any time soon.

  146. sheehanjihad says:

Hussein alluded to homeschooling not counting for education “credits” to eventually graduate. He seems bound and determined to keep our children in socialist indoctrination camps instead of teaching them something they need to learn. Wait, it isnt Hussein so much as the people who paid for his presidency. Either way, the government will do everything in it’s considerable power to force public schooling for your kids, while entitlement programs send the ” underprivileged” to private schools. Welcome MrsC…you can get the facts here, and yes, fresh air.

  147. Moonspinner says:

…..and what is the punishment if we refuse to serve our “required” hours of service in Obama’s Amerika?

  148. texaspsue says:

“Hussein alluded to homeschooling not counting for education “credits” to eventually graduate.”

Didn’t California try that a while back. Unbelievable. All of the children that I know that were/are homeschooled are far wiser, at a higher education level and more mature than most public school children. (And they actually know things like, the Constitution.)

I’m with all of you that say that volunterism should be just that, Volunteering. I have done my fair share of volunteering through the years. (No brag, just fact.) My daughter volunteered for programs starting at eighth grade. Her first act was a being tutor at the Public Library teaching elementary age children to read, it was all her idea. (no, I didn’t force her… I just led by example.) No one forced (required) us to help and no one paid us. It’s just the right thing to do. My Dad instilled the notion in me to give back and help whenever you can, as did his parents and so on. (Heck, because they were farmers and had a country store, my grandma and grandpa fed people for free during The Great Depression.) Just as many of us were raised. I guess I’m pretty stubborn. (Don’t force me against me fashion kinda person.) I would resist being required to volunteer, anyway.

Dittos on the fresh air comment. :-)

  149. polemos says:

My wife was homeschooled, I was indoctrinated in public school. She thinks I am smarter than her, I know she is a light-year smarter than I could hope to be. The social enginerring that goes on inside public schooling is by design it is ment to create a “socialist worker class”.

There was such satisfaction in handing my children thier certificates for completing highschool.
    Hours that I decided.
Books that I wanted them to read.
    Courses I wanted.
Oh and they scored well over the state average on the SAT.(not saying much here in Oregon)

My government will never tell me when and how to raise my children, how they spend thier time, or what they need to learn to be successful. I am thier parent! It is my GOD given resposibilty to nurture, train, protect and provide for the needs of my children. I will never willinging submit to mandatory service for my family.

Here in the People’s Socailist Republic of Oregon you can imagine I am in the minority.

  150. KKellyS says:

Eventually, Homeschool will be FINISHED and parents will be charged and arrested if they don’t comply. I pulled my son out of the public school system 3 years ago. There are horror stories already of parents being harassed by the school and CPS, brought up on charges, etc. read all about it here http://www.hslda.org/Default.asp?bhcp=1 I can only imagine what a nightmare it will be when Hussein outlaws HS all together.

ACORN is his model for community services and Public Allies, an organization near and dear to Mrs. Hussein’s heart, is the model that will be used to brainwash our kids just like the Hitler Youth

  151. proreason says:

Lessee…..4 new “corps” in the Brown Shirt Brigades: Classroom Corps, Health Corps, Clean EnergyCorps, and Veterans Corps.

Sounds like 4 new mega beaurocracies to me. 50 hours per middle schooler and high schooler, and 100 hours per college student, plus retirees. There are about 17 million middle and high schoolers. Add 4 million for college kids and 9 for retirees.

So the massive new beaurocracy will be managing about the activities of 30 million squirrels, uh er, people.

I wonder if that will cost anything?

I wonder who will be paying for that?

Oh silly me, it will probably be self-funding through a reduction in unnecessary paperwork or create so much “value” that the net gain to the country will be immeasurable. After all, middle-school kids so many great ways to improve the country.

And of course, there is the immeasurable value of teaching 7th graders about the wonders of really really big government, and the evils of really really greedy big business.

  152. jobeth says:

“Hussein alluded to homeschooling not counting for education “credits” to eventually graduate. He seems bound and determined to keep our children in socialist indoctrination camps instead of teaching them something they need to learn”

Fits doesn’t it? Can’t have these kids actually be able to think and discern for themselves can he? Smart kids can expose his minions and their ideas.

Thank God for these homeschooled kids. At least someone will be able to think for themselves. These kids will know how to fish…not depend on having the government give them one…after they jump thru the gov hoops and tow the “party line”.

Most of these kids have been raised in God fearing conservative homes so not only can they think but have also been taught true history! What a concept! Maybe they will be able to NOT repeat the mistakes our gov educated kids are making now..ie accepting Socialism/Communisum. They are America’s hope. Not O and company.

I am glad I am not the only one who can see that O is only a front for the larger machine who put him out front to give a slick “pretty” face on their true plans.

I’m older now..and for the very first time in my life I am truly fearful for my beloved country.

  153. proreason says:

This site has run a back of the napkin on the cost of the college credits:

He thinks $32B annually for that little piece (3% of income tax receipts….do your own math for the impact to you).

But he doesn’t take a shot at the big enchilada. Here are his thoughts:

“are there 800 million hours (8 million kids at 100 hours each) of meaningful community service work out there? Even if there is, how do you manage a program with the equivalent of almost 4 million full-time employees efficiently and effectively? Wal-Mart, which is I believe the nation’s largest employer, has 2.1 million employees. (Ironic/never happen suggestion of the day: Maybe Uncle Sam should outsource program administration to Wal-mart. At least they might keep it under control). ”

BIGGER THAN WALMART by a factor of 4…….and this is just one of many of the Obammy dope’s “new ideas”.

Oh yes, change is a comin.

I noticed that his “Change” web site doesn’t allow for any comment – unless, of course, you want to leave your full name, address and e-mail so you can “tell your story”, because this historic election “is about you”…

It also seems to be all about how they can find you (like Joe the plumber) if you don’t agree with these insane ideas and you didn’t vote for this empty suit in the first place!

The left-wing bitched and moaned about civil rights when George W. Bush kept tabs on terrorists trying to maintain cells within our borders. Well, get ready…

There will not be a peep from that crowd when Chancellor Obama dismantles the Constitution, using an “activist court” appointed by him, just as his predecessor with the funny looking mustache did (just flip through your book on World War II if you’re not sure… you’ll find him there).

  157. jobeth says:

I noticed that too. You have to leave yourself wide open if you wanted to tell them what you felt. Noticed that there was only praise for him on that site. ummm…wonder why…

Made me think of the movement to remove the secret ballot from the unions.

I was born and raised in Bosnia (former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia)…
    Obama’s agenda is scary!!!

Just look up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communist and read about the communism!

I grew up in a communist society where “we were all equal” and we all had enough – yes my Dad drove a Yugo just like everyone else, while the political elite drove luxury imports!

My Dad was an engineer and my Mom a university professor. Had we lived here in the US, with their incomes, we’d be labeled as “rich” by Obama’s new tax standards….

In reality, 70% or my parents’ income was going towards utilities and food. My Mom’s salary could barely cover our heat bill during cold Bosnian winters.

The bottom line is – THERE WAS NO DISCRETIONARY INCOME. I grew up wearing clothes my older cousin could not fit any more. There was no market competitions, no new products designed (except for the YUGOs), no reason to do anything extraordinary as there was no reward for it!!!

What we had was crappy nationalized healthcare and a lot of free time, as we had no reason to work. Why would you sweat when there is no reward for it.
Just think about it, nothing that is valued nowadays was discovered in a communist society.

My aunt never worked as she had a doctor who would authorize her so called “home recovery” treatment. It meant she would not have to go to work and the employer had to pay her. She would show up 1-2 days a month, and now she’s retired. Never worked more than a few months at a time, but had money to do things!

Now on those “voluntary” services; we had those in former Yugoslavia as well. If you did not show up for those there was a gov’t agency that would make sure you do not miss the “next event”.
My uncle had an SUV for his business. He had to “donate” that vehicle for weeks at a time for military exercises; after which it would be returned to him completely trashed!

Educated and smart people were especially watched by various gov’t agencies as they posed threat for the ruling regime.

The bottom line is, we slid into a civil war that killed over 2.5% of the total population. S

COMMUNISM is like hyperthermia; you give up and start a slow and irreversible process of decomposition!

PEOPLE OF the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WAKE UP! Communism has been legally approved Nov 4th, and it starts Jan20th.

  168. loneconservative says:

    Dear Euro,
I appreciate your story and wish others (those obviously not on this blog) could hear it as well. Having recently visited Budapest, it was amazing to see and hear from the people who remember all too well what communism cost them. Unfortunatley the youth of today in America have lacked for nothing. They throw outlandish sweet sixteen birthday bashes that cost more than most people’s weddings. Their parents are expected to pay for everything until they are finished with all of their schooling- even through grad school if necessary. When they realize they are done with school and about to enter the “real world”, they do not know how to handle responsibility and take care of themselves- as they have not had to for the first 22- 24 years of life. Why should they have to start at that point when the government is offering to do it for them. They are willing to gladly trade in their freedoms to someone else who is willing to shoulder the responsibility of their lives. They are too enlightened and enabled to listen to those of us who try to tell them otherwise. Basically, America has raised a generation of spoiled brats.

  169. Professor_Repulso says:

“…the people who remember all too well what communism cost them.” Brings to mind what happened next door when the Romanians voted out Ceaucescu (and his old lady) in a hail of gunfire.
