Queen Pays $8.15 An Hour For Housekeeping Asst

From the Agence France Presse:

Buckingham Palace seeks housekeeper to run baths

January 26, 2014

London (AFP) – Buckingham Palace was advertising Monday for a new housekeeping assistant, whose duties include running the royal baths and arranging serving the tea.

The successful applicant for the £14,400 ($23,800, 17,400 euros) a year post will be responsible for "high quality cleaning, presentation and guest care" at Queen Elizabeth II’s official London residence.

Don’t tell anyone, but that works out to only $8.15 an hour. Which is not a living wage according to our news media and the rest of the Democrat Party.

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth’s personal net worth is estimated to be over $500 million dollars. Not counting the royal real estate and art holdings estimated at over $10 billion dollars. Where is the outrage?

Duties include "arranging dry cleaning, care of jewellery, running baths, assisting with dressing if required and arranging the service of tea and breakfast trays".

The advert on the Royal Household’s web page says the new employee will be working in proximity to members of the royal family and so must be able to "maintain confidentiality".

The job holder is responsible for the upkeep of the carpets, upholstery, antique furnishings, artworks, picture frames, mirrors and silver and brass items.

Applicants for the 40-hours-a-week job should be "meticulous with a close attention to detail" and willing to work away from London for around three months a year.

"Food and accommodation is provided, for which there will be a salary adjustment," the advert says.

Does that mean they will be deducted from the salary? How wonderful.

The Royal Household’s brief is to provide "exceptional advice and support" to Queen Elizabeth, enabling her to serve Britain and its people. It employs approximately 1,200 staff from gardeners, to curators, cooks, secretaries and furniture planners.

Well, to be fair, when you have a staff of over 1,200, it does begin to add up. Even when you pay below a living wage.

  1. The Queen does not decide these matters.
