Katie Couric’s talk show canceled after two seasons
    Published December 20, 2013
    TVGuide

Katie Couric’s syndicated talk show has been canceled after two seasons, Disney-ABC and Couric announced Thursday.
“While production will continue on ‘Katie’ through June 2014, we’ve mutually agreed that there will not be a third season of the show,” a joint statement read. “We’re very proud of everyone’s contributions to making Katie the #1 new syndicated talk show of 2012-2013, and we look forward to the rest of the season.”

The news comes less than a month after Couric decided to leave ABC News to become a “Global Anchor” at Yahoo News. Couric will make her debut on Yahoo in 2014. Couric’s departure comes as she has one year remaining on her three-year contract with ABC.

    history.
Couric has been a television host on all Big Three television networks in the United States. She worked for NBC News from 1989 to 2006 and for CBS News from 2006 until fall 2011, when she joined ABC News.
Katie’s Take is the second web show that Couric has been affiliated with, the first being @katiecouric on the CBS Evening News.
Accepting the Walter Cronkite Award for Special Achievement for National Impact on the 2008 Campaign, Couric said, “I believe one of the reasons that the interview I conducted with Sarah Palin was so impactful is because it wasn’t done through any particular ideological prism. I was so mindful of my personal affect, knowing every head tilt, expression, and follow-up question would be carefully dissected for any evidence of bias. My goal was simply to be a conduit to allow her to express her views and give those watching a chance to come to their own conclusions.”
The Sarah Palin interviews with Katie Couric were a series of interviews Couric conducted with 2008 U.S. Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin. They were recorded and broadcast on television in several programs before the 2008 U.S. presidential election. Couric received the Walter Cronkite Award for Journalism Excellence for the interviews. Steve Schmidt, McCain’s senior campaign strategist and advisor, later reflected on the interview, saying “I think it was the most consequential interview from a negative perspective that a candidate for national office has gone through…”

ABC announced that Couric had signed a record $40-million contract
On January 30, 2013, Disney-ABC Domestic Television renewed Katie for a second season starting in fall 2013.
In October 2013, The Hollywood Reporter wrote that Katie was close to cancellation because of a low Q Score,
{ “When celebrities go off the deep end, we’ll hear folks say they’ve “damaged their Q rating.” Advertisers and media execs pay big cash for access to the Q Score database. Apparently the numbers can really come in handy when it’s time to cast a new show or sign a new spokesperson.]
low ratings, and a reported disdain of her core female audience. The syndicated show averaged a 1.7 household rating during its first season and a 1.8 so far in the 2013–14 season. Some of the largest television stations in the U.S. are contracted to carry the talk show through summer of 2014.
    [ in 1992 "Steve Urkel" Q Score was 49. ]

In December 2013, the Wall Street Journal reported that the talk show Katie was to end after two seasons.
it appears the Socialist Media can’t take the hint that nobody watches Comrade Katty.
so is she still a reporter or just a payed blogger?
“Journalism consists largely in saying Lord Jones died to people who never knew Lord Jones was alive.”
    G.K. Chesterton, British writer, 1874-1936

    • Katie was a failure, on par, with Connie Chung, and Hillary Clinton. All three of them had lackluster careers, and were only given the spotlight only to showcase women. They were unqualified D- women who were marketed as A+s.

AS PROOF you probably aren’t they only one who wondered WHY DOES KATIE COURIC ALWAYS HAVE A NOTEBOOK DURING AN INTERVIEW? –and the person being interview has to answer everything immediately, and from memory.

~Did Katie NOT prepare for her own interview?
~Does she have such a poor understanding of the issues, she needs to read the lawyer’s rebuttal in her notebook?
~Is her memory so poor, she needs a notebook to remember her own questions?
~How come she is one of only a very few number of people who actually need a teleprompter on paper to conduct an interview?
~Why is the person interviewed supposed to answer and recall immediately any question asked, but Katie can’t even remember the next question to ask?

      Fail

“We’re very proud of everyone’s contributions to making Katie the #1 new syndicated talk show of 2012-2013, and we look forward to the rest of the season.”

The syndicated show averaged a 1.7 household rating during its first season and a 1.8 so far in the 2013–14 season.

Wow !!! if a 1.8 is a #1 show, it ought to lend us an insight to how bad the rest of the crap really is that’s polluting our atmosphere. and a $40 mil contract shows how much is paid to push their propaganda. think how much your average product would cost if YOU weren’t paying her and her ilk that sort of scratch in ad $ for the manure they spread.

for reference – Per nielsen on Dec.2nd Family Feud pulled a 5.0 and came in at #9 on syndicated channels.

from the Society of Mutual Autopsy?
(In 1876, a group of French scientists and intellectuals set out to unlock the mystery of the human soul. More to the point, these freethinking anthropologists hoped to prove that the soul doesn’t exist. They maintained that an individual’s personality, character, and abilities, or what we tend to think of as “soul,” correspond to the shape and size of one’s brain. And they believed they could demonstrate this by performing autopsies on decedents whose traits in life they knew. Hitch was, they needed volunteers. Looking around the room, they finally agreed to dissect one another after death, and thus the Society of Mutual Autopsy was born.
Needless to say, after some 30 years of cutting each other’s heads open, this unusual group of organ donors didn’t prove much of anything, except perhaps that there’s a lot about human existence that scalpels can’t explain.)

4 US Troops Wounded; 3 US Military Aircraft Shot Down in Africa by Rebels “after” Susan Rice Releases Ironic Audio Recording and Obama in Hawaii is Out of Touch

The Washington Times: Rebel fire hits U.S. military aircraft in South Sudan; four wounded

    Dec 22 2013

Four U.S. service members were wounded Saturday when rebel fire hit three U.S. military aircraft responding to the outbreak in violence in South Sudan, as the Obama administration threatened to withdraw support to the new nation.

Less than three years after its creation, the world’s newest country is beginning to fracture along ethnic lines in violence that has killed hundreds of people and what could come next, some warn, is ethnic cleansing.

Hours before the attack on U.S. forces,
White House National Security Adviser Susan E. Rice sent a recorded message to the region urging an end to the violence that has killed an estimated 500 people in the past week.

“The violence we’re seeing now is a grave threat to your young nation,” Ms. Rice said in the audio recording.

“Continued fighting — and the specter of ethnic violence — could tear apart the nation you so painstakingly knit together.

We know all too well what horrors can occur when irresponsible provocateurs pit tribe against tribe and brother against brother.”

“If individuals or groups seek to take or hold power through force, mass violence or intimidation, the United States will have no choice but to withdraw our traditional, robust support,” Ms. Rice said.

“Killing will only lead to deprivation and isolation for the people of South Sudan.”

A number of other countries are trying to evacuate their citizens from South Sudan.

Meanwhile Pakistan Protests could cost US Billions of dollars aside the Billions of dollars promised to Pakistan

AP: Pakistan Protests May Make US Fly War Cargo Out

Dec 19 2013 – By Lolita C. Baldor and Rebecca Santana

U.S. officials, frustrated that hundreds of military shipments heading out of Afghanistan have been stopped on the land route through Pakistan because of anti-American protests, face the possibility of flying out equipment at an additional cost of $1 billion.

A Pakistani official says the government is looking for a peaceful settlement but notes that citizens have the right to protest as long as they are not violent.

The U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the planning, said flying the military equipment out of Afghanistan to a port will cost five to seven times as much as it does to truck it through Pakistan.

About a hundred trucks are stacked up at the border, and hundreds more are loaded and stalled in compounds, waiting to leave Afghanistan.

The deadlock, if not resolved, could also be costly for Pakistan.

In private meetings in Islamabad early last week, Hagel warned Pakistani leaders that unless the military shipments resumed, political support could erode in Washington for an aid program that sends them billions of dollars.

The protesters, however, appear to be in this for the long haul. Khalid had a schedule listing who would be manning the sit-in each day through mid-January.

Officials from PTI said they had received no pressure from the federal government to stop the protests.

“Why is the federal government silent? Because they can’t go against the public pulse,” said Farman.

U.S. officials say that just a small percentage is taken out through the Chaman route because it is more dangerous and crosses through the insurgency-plagued Baluchistan province.

Six US Soldiers Killed by Enemy Fire in Afghanistan

NBC News: Six US soldiers killed in Afghan helicopter crash

By Jim Miklaszewski, Courtney Kube and Fazul Rahim, NBC News
    KABUL –

According to U.S. military officials, two U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopters were flying in tandem over southern Afghanistan when one suddenly dropped from the sky and crashed.

The situation became desperate when the helicopter’s seven-man crew came under heavy enemy gunfire.

By the time a rescue team was deployed, six of the crew members had been killed, with only one surviving with serious injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, NATO said in a statement.

NATO did not disclose the nationalities of the victims but the U.S. official said they were American.

Taliban fighters remain a serious threat in the area.

Aircraft crashes are not uncommon in mountainous Afghanistan. In August 2011, 25 U.S. special operations forces were among 38 killed when the Taliban shot down a transport helicopter.

That agreement, however, would commit U.S. forces to another 10 years in Afghanistan.

NBC News’ Jeff Black, Alastair Jamieson and Reuters, contributed to this report.

US Embassy attacked Christmas Day in Afghanistan capital Kabul

ABC: US Embassy in Kabul Attacked on Christmas Day

    By Michael Howard – Dec 26 2012

Hundreds of American diplomats and aid workers in Kabul woke up Christmas morning to the sound of explosions, as the American embassy came under attack just after dawn.

The explosions sent staff at the embassy – who live on the same compound during their off-hours – scurrying to bomb shelters for cover.

It’s unclear if the “indirect fire” was mortars or rockets.

Rocket attacks aren’t uncommon in Kabul, but direct hits on the US embassy are rare.

It’s unclear exactly where within the sprawling, heavily fortified compound the projectiles landed. Two rockets landed elsewhere in the city at around the same time, according to Afghan police.

The Taliban quickly claimed responsibility, saying they had targeted the embassy but made no mention of the Christmas holiday.

In 2009, the Taliban launched a series of rocket attacks on Kabul during the country’s elections. They claimed their target was the Presidential palace, but most landed outside the palace compound.

    http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/he.....stmas-day/

Sounds like they are still hiding in their bunkers and too afraid to go to the US embassy and check out the damage.

Speaking of DAMAGE CONTROL of the US Embassy being attacked in Afghanistan, along with US Troops just attacked in Africa’s South Sudan and BENGHAZI’s dead Americans

OBAMA NAMES SUSAN RICE PERSON OF THE YEAR

    Jerusalem Post:

Person of the Year in US Mideast Policy: Susan Rice

    By Michael Wilner – Dec 26 2013

Washington bureau chief Michael Wilner chooses US national security advisor for not being afraid to confront America’s greatest challenges in the region. National Security Adviser Susan Rice.

Throughout the summer, scrap and whiteboard notes consumed the West Wing corner office of US National Security Advisor Susan Rice as she— with a small group of aides— tried to outline how the United States could finally pivot away from the Middle East.

As US President Barack Obama’s first choice to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state, Rice was pilloried by Republicans throughout 2012 over a series of television interviews she conducted over the killing of US ambassador Christopher Stevens in Benghazi, Libya.

And yet as national security advisor— a less visible role— Rice has been empowered to cast foreign policy on America’s greatest challenges in the Middle East and North Africa from the White House, by the president’s side, on a daily basis.

Rice was a leading voice pushing Obama to show American muscle in Syria.

On Rice’s project, US Secretary of State John Kerry— the one who got the job— effectively served as a consultant. Obama adopted her findings, and they have guided US foreign policy in the months since.

Will Rice keep US Troops in Africa since South Sudan failed to protect US Troops.
She drew a red line and blood was shed

Makes you wonder if there is some grooming being done with Rice along with the white washing.

Impeach Obama? DNC raises fear in new email
    Published December 29, 2013 • FoxNews.
In 2014, the Democratic National Committee wants you to vote Democrat – if only so you can protect President Obama from being impeached.

An email sent out Saturday evening explicitly raises the fear that the president could be removed from office if enough Republicans take control of Congress, the Daily Caller reported.

The notice – entitled “Impeachment” in the subject line – was sent to Obama for America supporters and featured quotes from Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., Rep. Kerry Bentivolio, R-Mich., and Rep. Blake Farenthold, R-Texas, who raise the possibility of impeaching the president on grounds of alleged presidential misconduct.

“Republicans are actually excited about the idea,” the email says, according to the Daily Caller. “Show these Republicans that they are way, way off base and give President Obama a Congress that has his back.”

Rhetoric aside, no representative has introduced an inquiry of impeachment to the House Judiciary Committee or introduced a bill of impeachment since President Obama took office in 2009. Democratic desires to remove George W. Bush from office were famously squashed shortly after the party regained the House in 2006, when then-incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said impeachment was “off the table.”

Only Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton have been impeached, but both were acquitted in the Senate and were permitted to finish out their terms.

VA banned Merry Christmas or “God Bless You” cards &.

EEOC Bans US Troops from saying Christmas in side the USA

FOX News: VA hospital refuses to accept ‘Merry Christmas’ cards

    By Todd Starnes – Dec 25, 2013

Boys and girls at Grace Academy in Prosper, Tex., spent most of last Friday making homemade Christmas cards for bedridden veterans at the VA hospital in Dallas.

“I’d like them to know they’ve not been forgotten and somebody wanted to say thank you,” Gracie told MyFoxDFW.com.

Gracie’s card read, “Merry Christmas. Thank you for your service.” It also included an American flag.

But the bedridden veterans at the VA hospital will never get to see Gracie’s card. Nor will they see the cards made by 51 other students. That’s because the Christmas cards violated VA policy.

“I told him my students made cards, we’d like to bring them down for the veterans,” Chapman told the television station. “And he said, ‘That’s great. We’re thrilled to have them, except the only thing is, we can’t accept anything that says ‘Merry Christmas’ or ‘God bless you’ or any scriptural references because of all the red tape.'”

A VA official quoted the policy which is in the Veterans Health Administration handbook:

“In order to be respectful of our veterans’ religious beliefs, all donated holiday cards are reviewed by a multi-disciplinary team of staff led by chaplaincy services and determined if they are appropriate (non-religious) to freely distribute to patients. We regret this process was not fully explained to this group and apologize for any misunderstanding.”

“This wasn’t the country I grew up in, when you couldn’t say ‘Merry Christmas,’ you couldn’t say ‘God bless you’ or reference any scripture,” she told MyFoxDFW.com.

She told the television station the boys and girls were heartbroken that the military personnel would not be able to receive their cards.

FOX News: Don’t Say Christmas Soldier

    By John Hayward – Dec 24 2013

Todd Starnes at Fox News relates a bizarre outburst from an “equal opportunity officer” at a meeting of the 158th Infantry Brigade in Mississippi, at which the annual Christmas football tournament was discussed:

“Our equal opportunity representative stopped the briefing and told us that we can’t say Christmas,” the soldier told me. “Almost the entire room blew up. Everybody was frustrated. The equal opportunity rep told our commander that not everyone celebrates Christmas and we couldn’t say Christmas celebration. It had to be holiday celebration.”

The soldier said there was a brief, but heated discussion about political correctness. At one point, the equal opportunity representative tried to deflect the criticism by pointing out it was the Army’s rules – not hers.

“She said an individual can say Christmas, but as an organization in the Army you can’t say Christmas,” the soldier told me.

The Army said there was no such policy… right before they said well, yeah, there kinda is.

Who really wants to argue with the Equal Opportunity Officers, in either military or civilian life?

Once the name of the day has been officially rewritten across the millions of pages of rules that govern public life, those who revere Christmas will be fully marginalized, and the war will be won. All that remains will be a mop-up operation.

NYT ignores long steady growth of Al-Qaeda members still following Osama Bin Laden’s terrorist organization.

CNN: Still out there and growing — al Qaeda on the rebound, experts say

    By Ashley Fantz – Dec 28 2013

    STORY HIGHLIGHTS
Al Qaeda rebounds in Yemen, Egypt’s Sinai region, Libya, Iraq, east and west Africa

(CNN) — Two years after the end of the Iraq war, the U.S. State Department confirmed this week that it is providing the fragile country with sophisticated weapons and drones. Iraq needs help fighting against a growing and serious threat — al Qaeda.

Hasn’t the line for years from the U.S. government and its allies been that al Qaeda is on the run, that its fiercest fighting ability has been weakened by U.S. strikes?

The terror group’s manpower has increased in recent years, it has gained control of more territory in North Africa and the Middle East and is taking a different approach to death, according to top lawmakers privy to high-level intelligence and experts who have observed al Qaeda’s activities since September 11.

Al Qaeda: We’re sorry about Yemen hospital attack

This month a drone failed to kill an al Qaeda planner believed to be behind a plot to attack the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa.

Al Qaeda-linked militants have established a formidable foothold in the complicated civil war in Syria.

There are up to 11,000 foreign fighters from 74 nations in the conflict that has raged since April 2011, according to the December report from the International Centre for the Study of Radicalism (ICSR).

An increasing number of them are from Europe — approaching two thousand, according to the ICSR, an unprecedented number, according to experts.

“Syria has helped al Qaeda rebuild its operations in the Arab world, which has always been its intention anyway.”

“It’s possible that new recruits could get training like what we saw al Qaeda in Pakistan giving — showing people how to make high-explosive bombs made of chemicals bought at beauty or home goods stores and detonate them.” Cruickshank said.

Flashpoint partners, a U.S outfit that tracks jihadist websites, provided the terror analyst with an al Qaeda video that emerged on Christmas day.

It features the Boston bombing and also the slaying of a London soldier in May of this year.

The Christmas Day-published video is an updated English language version of al Qaeda’s central video “You are Only Responsible for Yourself”..

Between January and November 2013, more than 7,000 Iraqi civilians were killed, including 952 Iraqi Security Forces, according to the United Nations.

April 2013 was Iraq’s deadliest month in five years.

    The new Al Qaeda
What motivates al Qaeda’s newest members?

Cruickshank points to the disappointment many young men felt over what they perceive as a failed Arab Spring revolution.

(Al Qaeda is still mostly comprised of younger men, though women are taking backseat support roles, he added.)

This week Egypt’s military-backed government declared the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist group.

“The great hope of the Arab Spring was that it would liberate the political system. But instead it resulted in increased repression against Islamists,” Cruickshank said. ”

Al Qaeda leaves trail of documented expensives

TIMBUKTU, Mali — The convoy of cars bearing the black Al-Qaeda flag came at high speed, and the manager of the modest grocery store thought he was about to get robbed.

He was dumbfounded when instead, the Al-Qaeda commander gently opened the grocery’s glass door and asked for a pot of mustIn more than 100 receipts left in a building occupied by Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb in Timbuktu earlier this year, the extremists assiduously tracked their cash flow, recording purchases as small as a single light bulb. The often tiny amounts are carefully written out in pencil and colored pen on scraps of paper and Post-it notes: The equivalent of $1.80 for a bar of soap; $8 for a packet of macaroni; $14 for a tube of super glue.

The accounting system on display in the documents found by The Associated Press is a mirror image of what researchers have discovered in other parts of the world where Al-Qaeda operates, including Afghanistan, Somalia and Iraq.

The terror group’s documents around the world also include corporate workshop schedules, salary spreadsheets, philanthropy budgets, job applications, public relations advice and letters from the equivalent of a human resources division.

Taken together, the evidence suggests that far from being a fly-by-night, fragmented terror organization, Al-Qaeda is attempting to behave like a multinational corporation, with what amounts to a company-wide financial policy across its different chapters.

The picture that emerges from what is one of the largest stashes of Al-Qaeda documents to be made public shows a rigid bureaucracy, replete with a chief executive, a board of directors and departments such as human resources and public relations. Experts say that each branch of the terror group replicates the same corporate structure, and that this strict blueprint has helped Al-Qaeda not just to endure but also to spread.

    AL-QAEDA’S GROCERY LIST

Among the most revealing documents are the receipts, which offer a granular view of how Al-Qaeda’s fighters lived every day as well as its larger priorities.

“For the smallest thing, they wanted a receipt,” said 31-year-old Djitteye, who runs the Idy Market on the sand-carpeted main boulevard in Timbuktu. “Even for a tin of Nescafe.”

They record the $0.60 cake one of their fighters ate, and the $1.80 bar of soap another used to wash his hands.

These relatively petty amounts are logged with the same care as the $5,400 advance they gave to one commander, or the $330 they spent to buy 3,300 rounds of ammunition.

Keeping close track of expenses is part of Al-Qaeda’s DNA, say multiple experts, including FBI agents who were assigned to track the terror group in the years just after its founding.

This habit, they say, can be traced back more than three decades to when a young Osama bin Laden entered King Abdul Aziz University in Saudi Arabia in 1976 to study economics, and went on to run part of his millionaire father’s construction company.ard. Then he asked for a receipt.

This transaction in northern Mali shows what might seem an unusual preoccupation for a terror group: Al-Qaeda is obsessed with documenting the most minute expenses.

After he was exiled to Sudan in 1992, bin Laden founded what became the country’s largest conglomerate. His companies and their numerous subsidiaries invested in everything from importing trucks to exporting sesame, white corn and watermelons. From the get-go, bin Laden was obsessed with enforcing corporate management techniques on his more than 500 employees, according to Al-Qaeda expert Lawrence Wright, author of a well-known history of the terror group. Workers had to submit forms in triplicate for even the smallest purchases — the same requirement bin Laden later imposed on the first Al-Qaeda recruits, he said.

In Afghanistan, detailed accounting records found in an abandoned Al-Qaeda camp in 2001 included salary lists, stringent documentation on each fighter, job application forms asking for level of education and language skills, as well as notebook after notebook of expenses. In Iraq, U.S. forces recovered entire Excel spreadsheets, detailing salaries for Al-Qaeda fighters.

One of the first raids on an Al-Qaeda safe house was led by Coleman in 1997. Among the dozens of invoices he found inside the operative’s home in Kenya were stacks of gas station receipts, going back eight years.

    TERRORIST EXPENSE REPORTS

This detailed accounting system allows Al-Qaeda to keep track of the significant sums of money involved in feeding, training and recruiting thousands of fighters. It’s also an attempt to keep track of the fighters themselves, who often operate remotely.

Al-Qaeda clearly required such expense reports — in a letter from the stash, middle managers chide a terrorist for not handing his in on time.

In informal open-air markets such as those of Timbuktu, vendors didn’t have receipts to hand out.
So, traders say, members of Al-Qaeda came in pairs, one to negotiate the sale, and the other to record prices on a notepad.

The fighters would ask for a price, and then write it down in their Bloc Note, a notebook brand sold locally, said pharmacist Ibrahim Djitteye.

For example, two receipts, for $4,000 and $6,800, are listed as funds for “workshops,” another concept borrowed from business.

A flier found in another building occupied by their fighters confirms that Al-Qaeda held the equivalent of corporate training retreats.

Far more deal with the mundane aspects of running a state, such as keeping the lights on. Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb invaded Timbuktu in April 2012, and took over its state-run utilities, paying to have fuel trucked in from neighboring Algeria. One invoice shows they paid $3,720 for 20 barrels of diesel for the city’s power station.

Finally, the names on the receipts reveal the majority of fighters on the group’s payroll were foreign-born.

There’s a $1,000 advance to a man identified as “Talhat the Libyan.”

Another is issued to “Tarek the Algerian.”

The names furthermore confirm that the top leaders of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb were based in Timbuktu.

Among them is Abou Zeid, probably the most feared of Al-Qaeda’s local commanders who orchestrated the kidnappings of dozens of Westerners until his death this spring.

Al-Qaeda’s accounting practices left a strong impression on at least one person in Timbuktu: Djitteye, the convenience store manager.

The Al-Qaeda commander who came in for mustard was Nabil Alqama, the head of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb’s “Southern Command.” He became a regular. One day, he asked the store employee to get a receipt book printed so he could provide more official-looking invoices.

Obama starts 2014 New Year off with Another Lie: “FOLKS” Video Behind Benghazi Attacks!

NYT is a media hack and so are Obama and Hillary who obviously, the NY Times is aiding to wash the latest blood stains off her hands.

AFP: ‘Core’ Al-Qaeda not behind Benghazi attack: US

    Dec 30, 2013 –

Washington (AFP) – The United States is still investigating last year’s attack on its diplomatic mission in Benghazi but has no evidence that “core Al-Qaeda” leaders directed the assault in which four Americans died, a US official said Monday.

State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said, however, that some of the militants who carried out the deadly operation on September 11, 2012 may “have taken inspiration from Al-Qaeda ideology.”

She was speaking after the New York Times published a lengthy investigation which found no evidence that the Al-Qaeda network had direct involvement in the attack, in which ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Harf said, adding it was in the hands of the FBI.

“But at this point, we have no indications that core Al-Qaeda — which I think is what most people are referring to when they talk about Al-Qaeda — directed or planned what happened in Benghazi.”

“These were clearly terrorists,” Harf said, but she stressed it was important to make the distinction between Al-Qaeda and other local militias or terrorist groups.

“These folks don’t carry ID cards,” she said, adding:

“They don’t come out and wear a T-shirt that says I belong to Al-Qaeda, right?

“We know some of them may have taken inspiration from Al-Qaeda ideology certainly.

That’s what the investigation’s looking into right now, who did this?

    What were these groups?

    Who were these people following?

    Who directed and planned it?”

Investigators were looking into “exactly what role” the video had played in Benghazi, Harf said.

“This was a very complicated situation.

There were a number of folks involved in this attack, some of which… were there for different reasons,” she said.

But she added: “The video was clearly being used by extremists as some sort of rallying cry against the United States.”

And he insisted on NBC’s Meet the Press that “Al-Qaeda is not decimated, and there was a group there that was involved that is linked to Al-Qaeda.”

And add Marie Harf to the “folks” that quack and fly list that need to be flown over to Libya and dropped off.

Do not forget Locals and White House Officials both said Al-Qaeda were milling about around the hospital Stevens was at where the Libyan doctor lied and was honored by Obama who said the doc heroically spent 4 hours trying to revive Stevens.

Those American witnesses that hid, still hide, were either threatened or promised life pensions to keep their mouths shut or lie. Send those folks back to Libya by bus.

US Working ‘Behind the Scenes’ for Al Qaeda Hostage Release, State Says

Dec. 30, 2013 – By John Santucci, Lee Ferran, Dean Schabner and Muhammad Lila

The U.S. government is working “behind the scenes” to secure the release of American al Qaeda hostage Warren Weinstein, the State Department said in response to comments made by Weinstein’s family in an exclusive interview today on “Good Morning America.”

Elaine Weinstein, the 72-year-old’s wife, had told “GMA” that al Qaeda’s demands for her husband’s release were beyond her control but said that the U.S. government won’t tell her much about what they’re doing to help.

“We have called immediately on the terrorists holding him to release him,” State Department spokesperson Marie Harf told reporters hours after the broadcast.

We also continue to actively work with the Pakistani authorities to try and secure his release…

We’re going to keep working with the Pakistanis, working behind the scenes and then the FBI, of course, is involved as well… to try to secure his release. And we’re certainly committed to doing that, as we all are with all American citizens who are being held overseas.”

Harf said Weinstein’s situation is “heartbreaking and terrible,”

using the same word, “heartbreaking,” that Elaine Weinstein used to describe a new video of her husband, released late last week, in which Weinstein appeals to President Obama for help.

In the video, released by Al Qaeda’s media wing, Weinstein is seen wearing a grey jump suit slouching in a chair, with a grey wall behind him.

He asks Obama to negotiate directly for his release.

“Mr. Obama, you’re a family man,” Weinstein says.

Elaine Weinstein said she became more worried after seeing the video, saying “he didn’t look very good.”

The video is the first proof of life video of Weinstein in more than a year when al Qaeda released a similar video.

Obama’s Daily Spiritual Feeder Quits to Promote new President Tell all Book

The Daily Beast: Joshua DuBois’s Daily Devotionals for Obama Are Now a Book

    Dec 26 2013

For years, Joshua DuBois sent inspirational devotionals to his boss Barack Obama. Now they have been collected into a book.

I remember the day clearly. It was the heat of the 2008 presidential campaign, and I was working as the religious outreach director for U.S. Senator Barack Obama.

My job at the time was to talk with people of faith across the country about why this young senator should be president.

One morning in the middle of this quiet ritual–reading and prayer–I felt a sense of interruption.

I had Senator Obama’s personal email, but knew to only use it in case of emergencies.

I wasn’t exactly sure what that meant, but was pretty sure that this didn’t constitute an emergency.

But the feeling still gnawed at me: that he needed some support, beyond Secret Service protection and policy guidance and political advisors[sic].

And so I wrote a short email–based in the 23rd Psalm, and with another excerpt from an offbeat poem that I loved–and sent it to his personal BlackBerry.

I was a nervous wreck after sending and did not expect a reply.

But less than 5 minutes later, I got one. It was a brief note, all I needed: Senator Obama said that my message was exactly what he had been looking for, and he’d appreciate it if I kept it up each day. So I did.

More than five years later, the young senator I worked for is now president of the United States, and I have accumulated thousands of these devotionals.

I, like the president, am a history buff, and a student of blues and jazz, so in addition to Christian scriptures, these meditations have included lessons from Abraham Lincoln and Nina Simone, Eleanor Roosevelt and Johnny Cash.

But the goal of all of them is clear: to help the President deepen his faith, and live a life of greater peace and joy every day.

I decided to leave the White House earlier this year, and with the president’s permission I selected the best of these morning messages and assembled them into a book.

The President’s Devotional: The Daily Readings that Inspired President Obama will be released on October 22, a labor of love that started on that nervous morning, many years ago.

My hope is that the same passages that have been helpful to the president will provide some measure of encouragement for others as well, from single parents trying to make ends meet, to heads of organizations and political leaders as well.

In addition to 365 daily devotionals, The President’s Devotional includes some longer reflections on faith in politics and in my own life.

This book isn’t about President Obama, and it’s certainly not about me. It’s about the common principles and desires that bind us together.

I hope reading the book will be a blessing to others, as it has been to the president, and to me.

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/a.....onals.html

(video of Joshua plugging his new Obama book)
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-25456907

To think we’ve rarely heard a scripture or decent prayer come from the President’s mouth.
Perhaps Dubois claimed copy rights and would not allow them to be posted on the president’s teleprompter.

Wasn’t it a $75,000 a year to send one devotion or poem a day and Dubois would quit his job.

Did he ever send Obama “Thou Shall not Lie”?

Half of Females failing even the easiest US Marine training, but allowed to continue in spite of Military costs and cuts and reducing the amount of pull-ups men have to complete to 3.

AP: Marines delay female fitness plan after half fail

    Pauline Jelinek – Jan 2 2013

WASHINGTON (AP) — More than half of female Marines in boot camp can’t do three pullups, the minimum standard that was supposed to take effect with the new year, prompting the Marine Corps to delay the requirement, part of the process of equalizing physical standards to integrate women into combat jobs.

The delay rekindled sharp debate in the military on the question of whether women have the physical strength for some military jobs, as service branches move toward opening thousands of combat roles to them in 2016.

Although no new timetable has been set on the delayed physical requirement, Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Amos wants training officials to “continue to gather data and ensure that female Marines are provided with the best opportunity to succeed,” Capt. Maureen Krebs, a Marine spokeswoman, said Thursday.

Starting with the new year, all female Marines were supposed to be able to do at least three pullups on their annual physical fitness test and eight for a perfect score.

The Marines had hoped to institute the pullups on the belief that pullups require the muscular strength necessary to perform common military tasks such as scaling a wall, climbing up a rope or lifting and carrying heavy munitions.

Officials felt there wasn’t a medical risk to putting the new standard into effect as planned across the service, but that the risk of losing recruits and hurting retention of women already in the service was unacceptably high, she said.

Because the change is being put off, women will be able to choose which test of upper-body strength they will be graded on in their annual physical fitness test. Their choices:

—Pullups, with three the minimum. Three is also the minimum for male Marines, but they need 20 for a perfect rating.

—A flexed-arm hang. The minimum is for 15 seconds; women get a perfect score if they last for 70 seconds. Men don’t do the hang in their test.

Officials said training for pullups can change a person’s strength, while training for the flex-arm hang does little to adapt muscular strength needed for military tasks

“When officials claim that men and women are being trained the same, they are referring to bare minimums, not maximum qualifications that most men can meet but women cannot,” Donnelly wrote in an email to The Associated Press. “Awarding gender-normed scores so that women can succeed lowers standards for all. Women will suffer more injuries and resentment they do not deserve, and men will be less prepared for the demands of direct ground combat.”

They must open as many jobs to women as possible; if they decide to keep some closed, they must explain why.

Military brass has said repeatedly that physical standards won’t be lowered to accommodate female applicants.

    http://news.yahoo.com/marines-.....itics.html

Didn’t know things had gotten this bad. 3 pull-ups only for male US Marines. I thought it was chin-ups, so maybe AP got it wrong and the military brass are not as out of their mind as they pretend to be trying to meet a quota.

Well, one things for dam sure.

The “only quota” trying to be met is number of females to number of males.

This here is the black man’s war.

Kim Jong-Un and 300 officials watched horrific execution
Punishment, called ‘quan jue’, or execution by dogs, lasted an hour

Jang Song-Thaek, 67, along with five close aides, was stripped naked and thrown into a cage of hounds which had been starved for three days, according to new details emerging from China.

The pack of animals spent more than an hour mauling the group in a punishment called ‘quan jue’, or execution by dogs, a report in Chinese newspaper Wen Wei Po said.

The fact details of the barbaric punishment emerged in a newspaper, viewed as Beijing Government’s official mouthpiece, in Hong Kong, has been seen as another signal of China’s authorities losing patience with its wayward neighbour[sic], according to The Straits Times.

Kim Jong-Un spoke of the execution of his 67-year-old uncle during his New Year address telling the country ‘our party took resolute action to remove…scum elements within the party last year.’

His statement on state tv was the first time he had publicly criticised[sic] his uncle, who was executed on December 12 after he was accused of treason, corruption, following the ways of the hated West, and being a womaniser[sic].

His supposed crimes against the regime included having ‘improper relations with several women’ and having ‘wined and dined at back parlours[sic] of deluxe restaurants’.

In addition, Jang was said to have ‘squandered foreign currency at casinos while he was receiving medical treatment in a foreign country under the care of the party’.

‘If the war breaks out again in this land, it will bring about a massive nuclear disaster and the US will never be safe,’ he warned.

Kim took a test ride on a ski lift, rising up over the project that he said during an earlier visit was ‘at the centre of the world’s attention’.

John Kerry gushing his majesty Saudi King Abdullah loved his pro Palestinian ideas under winter rainfall

Rueters: Saudi King backs Israeli-Palestinian push, Kerry says

    By Arshad Mohammed

RIYADH (Reuters) – Saudi King Abdullah offered his “enthusiastic support” to U.S. efforts to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Sunday.

During that meeting, as well as one with the king of Jordan earlier in the day in Amman, Kerry briefed the Arab leader on his three days of talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders.

“I want to thank his majesty for … his enthusiastic support for the efforts that are being made with respect to the peace process,” he told reporters after seeing Abdullah at a desert palace outside Riyadh under a winter rainfall.

“Today, his majesty was not just encouraging but supported our efforts in hopes that we can be successful in the days ahead,” Kerry added, saying the Saudi ruler believed a peace deal could bring “great benefits” throughout the Middle East.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal also emerged from the desert talks upbeat, calling the rainfall a “great” omen and describing the meeting as “excellent.”

The foreign minister did not specifically echo Kerry’s comments about Saudi support for the Israeli-Palestinian peace process but he said an agreement that meets the Palestinians’ aspirations “will receive the full support of Saudi Arabia”.

Speaking earlier to reporters in Jerusalem, Kerry suggested that the Israelis and Palestinians were making some progress in peace talks, though there was still a chance no accord would be reached.

    “The path is becoming clearer.
The puzzle is becoming more defined.
And it is becoming much more apparent to everybody what the remaining tough choices are,” he said.
“But I cannot tell you when, particularly, the last pieces may decide to fall into place or may fall on the floor and leave the puzzle unfinished.”

US aid to Pakistan going to decorate old trucks, while women die of starvation

AFP: Pakistan’s truck art masters fret over NATO withdrawal

By Guillaume Lavallee Jan 5 2014

    – Pakistan’s truck artists, who transform ugly lorries into flamboyant moving works of art, fear boom times for their trade could be at an end as NATO winds down its mission in Afghanistan.

Truck art has become one of Pakistan’s most distinctive cultural exports in recent years, but it is still not highly regarded at home.

Call it what you will, decorating trucks is big business — haulage firms and lorry owners shell out $5,000, even $10,000 a time to have their vehicles adorned.

Jamal Elias, a truck art expert from Penn State university in the United States, said it represents the largest art sector of the Pakistani economy.

“You can’t say the gallery world or textile design begins to compare in size,” he told AFP.

But in a country with a stagnant economy and galloping inflation, why bother spending so much just to decorate a lorry?

“It shows our pride, our love for our job and also that our trucks are in good condition and attractive,” said Mir Hussain, who was about to spend a small fortune repairing and redecorating a truck.

Perhaps the real reason behind the slightly shaky logic is the simple love of man for his machine.

“His wife may be dying of hunger at home in the village, but the driver will still go ahead and have his truck decorated,” said mechanic Sajid Mahmood.

    Nixon’s 100th birthday

LOS ANGELES, Jan 6 (Reuters) – At a ceremony commemorating the late U.S. President Richard M. Nixon’s 100th birthday, politicians, a military official and Nixon’s eldest daughter on Sunday remembered him as an underappreciated president and a foreign policy genius.

Nixon, the Cold War-era Republican stalwart who opened U.S. relations with communist China, was the only American president to resign from office, leaving the White House in disgrace over the Watergate scandal.

“He looked at (the world) as a world with 200 countries and 200 leaders, and he studied every one of those leaders, and he knew most of them,” said Bruce Herschensohn, a friend and speech writer for Nixon who delivered the keynote address. “It’s a talent that I have never seen equaled.”

The 37th president died in 1994 at age 81.

During Sunday’s ceremony, the Watergate scandal was not mentioned.

“To me, there’s nothing to mention,” Herschensohn said after the speech. “That doesn’t make (the Watergate scandal) right, but that’s the way Washington operated.”

He said he wishes that people would people would view Nixon in the context of his entire legacy.

    a brief look:
    from various online sites.

The announcement that the President would make an unprecedented trip to Beijing caused a sensation among the American people, who had seen little of the world’s most populous nation since the Communists had taken power. Nixon’s visit to China in February 1972 was widely televised and heavily viewed. It was only a first step, but a decisive one, in the budding rapprochement between the two states.
The announcement of the Beijing summit produced an immediate improvement in American relations with the U.S.S.R.—namely, an invitation for Nixon to meet with Soviet premier Leonid Brezhnev in Russia. It was a sign that Nixon’s effort at “triangulation” was working; fear of improved relations between China and America was leading the Soviets to better their own relations with America, just as Nixon hoped. In meeting with the Soviet leader, Nixon became the first President to visit Moscow.
in May 1970 that National Guardsmen fired at rock-throwing protestors at Kent State University in Ohio, killing four. Two weeks later, police fired on students at Jackson State University in Mississippi, leaving two more dead.(the Left always reminds us,that Nixon somehow, did it.)
While Nixon tried to use improved relations with the Soviets and Chinese to pressure North Vietnam to reach a settlement, he could only negotiate a flawed agreement that merely interrupted, rather than ended, the war.
Nixon and Kissinger anticipated that the biggest threat to their plans would be a dry-season Communist offensive in 1972. Their worst fears were realized when the North Vietnamese regular army poured into the South in March 1972. Nixon responded by implementing some of the plans he had made in 1969. He mined Haiphong Harbor and used B-52s to bomb the North. The combined power of the American and South Vietnamese military ultimately stopped the offensive, though not before the Communists had more territory under their control.
The North Vietnamese were eager to reach a settlement before the American presidential election and subsequent removal of U.S. forces from the country. Hanoi made a breakthrough proposal in October 1972 and reached agreement with Kissinger rapidly. The South Vietnamese government balked, however, chiefly because the agreement preserved North Vietnamese control of all the territory Hanoi currently held. To turn up the political pressure on Nixon, the North Vietnamese began broadcasting provisions of the agreement. Kissinger held a press conference announcing that “Peace is at hand” without giving away too many details.

Nixon announced a wage-and-price freeze, tax cuts, and a temporary closure of the “gold window,” preventing other nations from demanding American gold in exchange for American dollars. To improve the nation’s balance of trade, Nixon called for a 10 percent import tax. Public approval was overwhelming.
Nixon then became the beneficiary of some good luck. An economic boom, which began late in 1971, lasted well into the 1972 The downturn resumed, however, in 1973. Expansive fiscal and monetary policies combined with a shortage of food (aggravated by massive Soviet purchases of American wheat) to fuel inflation. And then came the oil shock. Oil prices were rising even before the onset of the Arab oil boycott in October of 1973. Ultimately, inflation would climb to 12.1 percent in 1974 and help push the economy into recession. When Nixon left office, the economy was in the tank, with rising unemployment and inflation, lengthening gas lines, and a crashing stock market.
“Probably more new regulation was imposed on the economy,” wrote Herb Stein, the chairman of Nixon’s Council of Economic Advisers, “than in any other presidency since the New Deal.”
The federal government took an active role in preventing on-the-job accidents and deaths when Nixon in 1970 signed into law a bill to create the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). That same year, rising concern about the environment led him to propose an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and to sign amendments to the 1967 Clean Air Act calling for reductions in automobile emissions and the national testing of air quality. Other significant environmental legislation enacted during Nixon’s presidency included the 1972 Noise Control Act, the 1972 Marine Mammal Protection Act, the 1973 Endangered Species Act, and the 1974 Safe Drinking Water Act.
Despite this blizzard of legislation, environmentalists found much to criticize in Nixon’s record. The President impounded billions of dollars Congress had authorized to implement the Clean Air Act, lobbied hard for the air-polluting Supersonic Transport, and subjected environmental regulation to cost-benefit analyses which highlighted the economic costs of preserving a healthy ecosystem.
Nixon proposed more ambitious programs than he enacted, including the National Health Insurance Partnership Program, which promoted health maintenance organizations (HMOs).

and from a writer who admits his distain for him, these words:
“in 1972 election, Nixon won by the greatest margin of votes in american history .
He recognized best, and spoke most clearly for …,the way americans chose to live at home in their neighborhoods,…their needs better than his rival[McGovern].”
