Why Black People Understand Rachel Jeantel by Christina Coleman
Posted June 27, 2013 by Christina Coleman for Global Grind Staff

If ever I thought myself objective and unbiased, the George Zimmerman trial is definitely not that moment.

So let’s cut to the chase. Any attorney, jury member, judge or white person in that courtroom is not going to understand Rachel Jeantel. And I don’t expect them to.

In fact, I certainly, like my fellow writer Rachel Samara, understand why white people wouldn’t like Rachel.

She’s hard. She’s black. And your assumptions about her background and lack of education make you feel like you are better, somehow. That her testimony, no matter how powerful and impactful it may be to this trial, is implausible. Weak, maybe? Let’s impeach her.

But maybe the reason white people don’t understand Rachel Jeantel has something more to do with white privilege then, what they would call, Rachel’s capricious nature.

How about: She’s dumb as a bag of hammers? Color has nothing to do with it. But I will say this is the ‘typical’ example of black females I see at our local WalMart. But then, the white-folk there ain’t all that sharp either. So…when it comes down to it, stupid is the new smart. It’s fashionable, it’s fun, and it keeps people from having to think and be responsible.

    (snip)

Don West doesn’t understand why Rachel didn’t call the police when she heard a struggle. Rachel, who is a black woman, doesn’t call the police. Why? Black people and police officers don’t mix.

The tottering seesaw between black people and law enforcement leaves us in a position where we are afraid to call the cops because we’re not exactly sure they are on our side. And in an age where police responding to calls for help will still result in an innocent black person’s incarceration or death, it’s difficult to know who to trust or turn to during times of need.

Well, if you’re trying to tell us it’s a “culture thing” I’d have to agree. But it’s not whites that brought it about.

Distrust in police stems from decades of being disenfranchised and treated unfairly by those who were supposed to protect us. And yes, I’m taking it there…distrust in white people. Government. LAPD. NYPD. Most recently, the White Plains police department in Westchester County, NY who murdered an innocent black man named Kenneth Chamberlain when his Life Aid medical necklace was inadvertently triggered and they were summoned to his home. And just last week, the police officer in Detroit, Michigan who shot and killed 7-year-old Aiyana Jones was set free after a mistrial. Not to mention the killers of Amadou Diallo or the torturers of Abner Louiama.

Therefore, any time a police officer arrives, the innocent black will suffer some sort of harm. I seem to recall that there was a Duke Lacrosse team that was run ragged and lives ruined due to the supposition by blacks and the guilty-whites of the media and convicted them all before the truth came out.

I also recall a case where a white couple was beaten, tortured, sodomized and raped and forced to drink bleach, etc and the killers were either not found or the newsies never reported the crime or both.

It’s not that Rachel can’t be trusted. In fact, her testimony has remained solid and consistent throughout her nearly seven hours of questioning.

But, the initial fear of not knowing what would happen is something that black people can understand. And overlook. Which is something that someone with white privilege wouldn’t exactly grasp.

But what’s more are the cultural differences between white and black people.

    Do tell—

When asked why she omitted the words “creepy ass cracker” and “nigga” when speaking in front of Sybrina Fulton about her son’s last moments, she simply told the court that she didn’t want to disrespect her.

As West looked at her in utter disbelief, Rachel looked back, unwavering. How could he not understand that she couldn’t bring herself to upset someone who had just lost a child? Better yet, curse in front of adults.

Note: Disrespect to elders in the black and especially Caribbean communities is almost as bad as cursing the Lord.

And speaking of that word “nigga,” the court might not understand Trayvon and Rachel’s casual use of the word because of how often, no matter how controversial, it is used in our communities.

So aside from the argument that we took the power out of a degrading word and made it into a term of endearment, it’s used so much that it’s become a substitute for identifiers such as “that guy,” or “him,” etc.

And for Don West to argue that the use of the word “nigga” was racial for Trayvon is incomprehensible, especially because he used it on a person who was not of African descent.

Yes, I all-too-often hear blacks refer to each other as “that guy”. I’ve heard that they use the word because “they own it” which is nothing more, nor less than marking territory and being tribal. Which is what this “culture clash” is.

If you look at it truly through a cultural prism, blacks, in general, enjoy the same tribal perks and piques that have gone on for centuries…..it’s probably in the DNA. The same, however applies to whites. Euro-caste/class structure, stratification of living areas/cliques and claques.

Blacks have their social code. Whites have theirs as well. So, we come to the argument why Clarence Thomas is an “uncle Tom” and why Chris Rock is a respected “nigga”. And never the twain shall meet. Because they don’t want to and we don’t like it.

Perhaps the same could be said about Hispanics and non-Hispanics. Or between Italians and Poles.

Both groups have to have a reason to want to communicate, work to a common goal and get along. Obama has done his level best to make sure that doesn’t happen by blaming white people. But blacks have consistently shown their reluctance and defiance in getting along or accepting that society doesn’t think that rap is great, wearing your pants below your a$$ is acceptable and talking “street” is any way to impress anyone but another thug or thug wanna-bee. (See: Hernamdez, Gang/gun culture in the NFL)

    And the money shot:

But most importantly, if there is anything that black people can understand that those judging her are not, it’s the loss of life without justice.

Loss of life without justice. Oh boy. I’m pretty sure that based on her deleted postings that she’s was “all up in it” about that “nasty ass cracker” Zimmerman being evil and that he deserves to die. Doesn’t matter that TRAY-von, yo, wuz bein’ jazzed about gettin’ followed by someone, n sh*t.

Sad thing is, it’s not that blacks get followed by people because they THINK they’re doing something suspicious, it’s that all-too-often, the allegedly innocent black actually does do something and thus, created the stereotype by which they seek retribution against whites. Admittedly, whites can do well to not make assumptions but when it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and swims like a duck…it’s probably a duck.

I was amused that Ms. Coleman went through such contortions to defend Jabba The Witness. Coleman suggests that we ignore all of the lies, fabrications, contradictory statements, racism, drug use, under age drinking, and illiteracy to believe Jeantel’s testimony because “creepy ass cracker[s]” jus’ don’ be understandin’ niggas.

Would that Coleman gave 1/10th as much consideration to Zimmerman’s explanation of events. As far as I can tell, Zimmerman is the only directly-involved party who didn’t use a racial perjorative in the series of events, yet he’s the one being accused of being a racist. I guess the best defense is a good offense, at least when it comes to playing the race card.

I’ll make this observation and I know of what I speak. The town I grew up in and now reside is 69% black. I’ve grown up with them, worked with them and yes fought with them. I’ve made life long friends and enemies.

Blacks are no different than anyone else except in one respect. No one, and I mean no one expects much from them. They get a pass. Excuses are made by those in the press, in the schools and on the job. They are treated as second class citizens in that respect because it’s convienent and sooooo much easier. Because they aren’t held accountable for their actions ( I’m not talking crime here but social and educational culture). no one makes them answer for why a 19 year old woman can’t read or speak english. No one holds her parents, teachers and neighbors accountable for allowing her to slide through life because they know Uncle Sam is going to feed her from womb to tomb and ‘it ain’t comin’ outa day pocket’.

That’s the difference and many blacks I know will tell you so. Instead of embarrassment and asking her parents and school administrators why this happened to this poor girl, Ms. Christina Coleman makes excuses to the detriment of the next generation and we go round and round.

It’s sad, really sad and it’s by design. Just to keep democrats in power.

Investors: California Education Teaching Students How to Sell Obama Care

    By Andrew Malcolm – 06/28/2013

The Los Angeles Unified School District will use a state grant to train teens to promote ObamaCare to family members. Covered California, the state’s health insurance exchange,

announced grants of $37 million on May 14 to promote the nationally unpopular law.

LAUSD will also use tax-paid staff to promote ObamaCare through phone calls to students’ homes, in-class presentations, and meetings with employees eligible for ObamaCare’s taxpayer-covered healthcare, the grant award says.

One in three Los Angeles students never graduates high school.

The district listed adult education students, part-time, and contract employees as its target population.

Obama tells Africa he is Ordering Americans to Pay for Africa’s Electricity.

Financial Times: Obama unveils $7bn Africa power initiative

    By Andrew England – June 30 2013

Barack Obama unveiled a multibillion dollar initiative on Sunday to help Africa tackle its crippling power deficit, with an ambitious target of doubling access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa as the US president pledged to form a partnership with the fast-growing continent.

Mr Obama, who is on the second leg of a three-nation tour of Africa, said the US would start by committing $7bn to the initiative over five years.

He said there had also been more than $9bn of private investments committed by companies including General Electric.

Over the same period, there has been increasing debate about Beijing’s burgeoning role in Africa, with China overtaking the US as the continent’s largest bilateral trading partner.

China has looked to the resource-rich continent to help satisfy its thirst for energy and commodities, but it has also been heavily involved in infrastructure projects across the continent.

“More and more Africans economies are poised to take off and increased trade and investment from the United States has the potential to accelerate these trends,” he said.

“So I’m calling for America to up our game when it comes to Africa.”

“History tells us that true progress is only possible where governments exist to serve their people and not the other way around.”

The “Power Africa” initiative will initially focus on countries that include Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, and Tanzania, where Mr Obama is due to visit a power station on the final leg of his trip.

International Business Times: Amnesty International Paints Grim Picture Of Homophobia In Sub-Saharan Africa

      By Palash Ghosh – June 25 2013

Homophobia, including verbal harassment, physical attacks and even murder, has risen to “dangerous” levels across sub-Saharan Africa, warned a report from human rights campaigner group Amnesty International. In a document entitled, “Making Love a Crime: Criminalization of same-sex conduct in sub-Saharan Africa,” Amnesty detailed how laws in many African countries have increased the penalties for same-sex activity, up to and including the introduction of the death penalty.

Senators urge Obama to get tough on Russia, Ecuador over Snowden

    June 30, 2013
    FoxNews.com
Two top senators called Sunday for the U.S. to get tough with countries positioned to help NSA leaker Edward Snowden, with Sen. Chuck Schumer saying the U.S. should cut off business visas to Ecuador if that country offers him asylum.

Sens. Schumer, D-N.Y., and John McCain, R-Ariz., had tough words for both Russia and Ecuador. The latter is considering Snowden’s bid for asylum, though may not issue a decision for weeks. Russia, meanwhile, has declined to intervene despite Snowden spending the past week in a Moscow airport.

Schumer agreed, saying, “they always are putting their finger in our eye.”

President Obama said Thursday that he shouldn’t have to get personally involved in “wheeling and dealing” with other nations over Snowden, suggesting it should be a routine legal matter for him to be turned over.

But as the stalemate dragged on, Vice President Biden on Friday called Ecuador President Rafael Correa to urge him to reject Snowden’s asylum request.

In two minutes, Obama flying over Africa promises 10 Million dollars to combat rhinoceros poachers

latimes: In Tanzania, Obama focuses on partnership initiatives

    July 1, 2013
    .
DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania — Flying over East Africa on Monday, a White House official was in the midst of a briefing on a new initiative to combat rhinoceros poaching and big game trafficking when a reporter got stuck on a detail.

“Ten billion or 10 million?” the reporter asked.

“Ten million, yes, with an M,” said Grant Harris, the National Security Council’s senior director for African affairs, to surprised faces. “Yes, million — $10 million.”

It’s not every day this White House, which proposed more than $3.7 trillion in spending in its 2014 budget, highlights a new program that costs less than the government spends in two minutes.

But the relatively small poaching initiative reflects a persistent reality that has trailed this president at each stop of his first African tour: Times are tight.

In South Africa, the White House touted existing programs to fight malaria, tuberculosis and HIV, but promised no additional financial commitment.

Obama has bristled at comparisons with Bush, whom he will see in Tanzania on Tuesday at a ceremony honoring those killed in the 1998 attack on the U.S. Embassy here.

Texas abortion battle heats up as activists ‘Hail Satan!’

Tensions in Texas ratcheted a bit higher Tuesday as activists on both sides of the abortion issue squared off at the Capitol in Austin for a somewhat odd religious-themed shout-down.

Gov. Rick Perry has called for a second special session to pass an abortion law that would prohibit the procedure past the 20th week of pregnancy.

Pro-choice protesters shouted, “Hail Satan!” as an attempt to drown out pro-lifers’ rendition of “Amazing Grace.”

Devil worshippers cringe over ‘hail Satan’ abortion chants
‘Pro-choice’ activists go to extremes in Texas

      John Griffing

Abortion activists opposing the 20-week abortion ban bill in Texas have drawn national attention for chanting “Hail Satan” while pro-life advocates sang Amazing Grace.

Now, a Twitter account run by actual Satanists is distancing itself from the pro-abortion activists.

The tweet comes from the so-called “UK Church of Satan,” which describes itself as “A community of free thinking individuals and realists. Connecting followers of the Church of Satan in the UK.”

      The Tweet Reads As Follows:

      UK Church of Satan
“Unfortunate to see Satan’s name used in such a diabolical manner. Another example what “Satanism” doesn’t represent.”

Wha….? Santan diabolical? Seriously? The UK Church of Satan doesn’t want their god tainted by blood thirsty leftist in the pro-abortion crowd.

I think the devil worshipers are concerned their secret past time is going to be revealed. They used to wait til offspring was bigger, 2 or 3 years so there is more blood to drink. Now it’s more of a business with live fetuses with organs, skin, etc….

I expect there will be more of this and perhaps the devil worshipers that work at these clinics will have to go back to their secret dungeons.

“Abortionist Doug Karpen allegedly used his bare hands to twist off the heads of infants born alive.

State authorities called for a full investigation into Karpen after Life Dynamics released a video with accusations from three women who worked for the Houston-based abortionist.

Mark Crutcher, the founder of Life Dynamics, said, “While the pro-life movement claims that abortion takes the life of a living human being, nobody on earth knows that better than the people who work at abortion clinics.”

Said Edge: “I thought, well, it’s an abortion you know, that’s what he does, but I wasn’t aware that it was illegal. …

Most of the time we would see him where the fetus would come completely out and of course, the fetus would still be alive.

“He does a lot of huge abortions.

A lot of the times, we would bring the big fetus[es] that were over age, we would re-open the bag and just look at it and be like, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s so big!’”

But abortion promoters have gone to extreme lengths to prevent the protections from being adopted.

Price was particularly shocked at the use of the term “blood-sucking parasite” to refer to an unborn fetus in response to pro-life testimony of individuals who have survived abortions.
Price claims the numerous protestors were yelling these words.

Another was much more graphic: “If I wanted the government in my womb, I would f*** a senator!”

Gov. Rick Perry, vowing his state would not succumb to mob rule, called another special session immediately to address the proposed abortion limits, which is now under way.
      “““““““““““““““““
Entertainment is really numbing people’s minds when they see nothing wrong with these late term abortions. I’d bet people would pay more to watch a real live movie of these type abortions than they would vampire and child hunters. If it’s no big deal in the out to shock entertainment business than why hasn’t it been done?

Protesting Egyptians Target U.S. Ambassador Ann Patterson, and this Time she has no Video to Apologize and Blame for.

NDTV/NYT: Ambassador becomes target of Egyptians’ mistrust of US

Mark Landler, The New York Times July 04, 2013

Washington: Her image has been plastered on banners in Tahrir Square, crossed out with a blood-red X or distorted and smeared with insults.

She is too cozy with Egypt’s deposed president and the Muslim Brotherhood, the signs say, and should leave the country.

Anne W. Patterson, a press-shy career diplomat who has been the US ambassador in Cairo since 2011, suddenly finds herself a target in a dangerous political upheaval, a symbol for angry young Egyptians of America’s role in their country’s affairs.

As her bosses in Washington struggle to exert even modest influence over the events in Cairo, Patterson, 63, has been portrayed as a sinister force by pro- and anti-government protesters alike: a defender of the status quo as well as a troublemaker who schemes with the opposition.

In his first reaction to Morsi’s ouster, Obama warned of the dangers of violence and tried to steer Egypt’s military toward a prompt resumption of democratic rule.

Patterson’s problems started on June 18 when she was invited, at a time of mushrooming demonstrations against Morsi’s government, to speak to an audience in Cairo about the US relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood.

It was, she said, a welcome chance to “set the record straight.”

While the US supported Egypt’s democratic development, it still had to deal with those in power, Patterson said, adding, “I don’t think the elected nature of this government is seriously in doubt.”

Moreover, she said she was “deeply skeptical” that “street action will produce better results than elections.”

Both of these perspective belie the reality that the United State has far less influence in Egypt than it did a generation ago.

Lawmakers on Wednesday threatened to cut off the aid, however, saying that it could not lawfully go to a country that had overthrown its government.

Her embassy, which also came under attack, initially issued a statement apologizing for a derogatory video about the Prophet Muhammad.
