That Congressional Exemption From Obamacare? Another Myth
    By Rick Newman
    Yahoo Finance

“Why are Congress and their families exempt from the new plan?” a questioner named Paul asked in a recent Yahoo Finance Q&A on the Affordable Care Act. “If the coverage is inferior, why don’t they stand behind it?”
Of all the misconceptions surrounding the new health reform law known as Obamacare—and there are many—one of the newest and most infuriating is the idea that Congress made itself “exempt” from a law that puts onerous new burdens on many other Americans. That contention is totally false. In fact, members of Congress, along with their personal staffers, are required to participate in Obamacare, which is a more stringent requirement than employees of many big companies face.
Here’s what really happened. When the Affordable Care Act became law in 2010, it included a passage that said: “The only health plans that the Federal Government may make available to Members of Congress and congressional staff … are (I) created under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act); or (II) offered through an Exchange established under this Act (or an amendment made by this Act).”

    but way at the bottom is this;
“The government, on average, pays about 75% of the premiums for members of Congress and other federal workers, while workers pay the other 25%. That’s comparable to what big firms kick in for coverage, says Paul Fronstin of the Employee Benefits Research Institute.”

The Office of Personnel Management, which is the government’s HR department, finally decided this summer that the government will give Congressional employees a tax-free subsidy roughly equivalent to the value of the benefit they’ve been getting until now. That will help offset the unsubsidized cost of insurance bought through an exchange.

“Consumers without insurance can get it any way they choose. The exchanges were set up as a way to pool insurance and, in theory, offer lower rates to people who can’t get it through an employer. Plus, applying through an exchange is the only way to get federal subsidies for people whose income falls below certain thresholds. There’s no requirement for anybody to buy insurance through an exchange, but it’s likely to be the best deal for many consumers, because of the subsidies.Congressional employees are an exception.”

“As for President Obama, the law doesn’t require him or any other federal employees to do anything different, so they’ll continue to get the same insurance options the same way they’ve been getting them. In fact, Obama probably couldn’t enroll in the program bearing his name even if he wanted to, since he already gets insurance from his employer.”

see, its all a Tea Party lie.

Military personnel being forced to give their opinions on gays leading to Christian soldiers to be punished

Fox News: Airmen say Air Force is punishing evangelical Christians

    By Todd Starnes – Sep 30 2013

Evangelical Christian airmen at Lackland Air Force Base are facing severe threats and retribution for their religious beliefs and some personnel have been ordered to publicly express their position on gay marriage.

“There is an atmosphere of intimidation at Lackland Air Force Base,” said Steve Branson, the pastor of Village Parkway Baptist Church in San Antonio. “Gay commanders and officers are pushing their agenda on the airmen. There is a culture of fear in the military and it’s gone to a new level with the issue of homosexuality.”

“The religious persecution is happening,” the pastor said. “It’s getting bigger every day. Gay and lesbian airmen can talk about their lifestyle, but the rest have to stay completely quiet about what they believe.”

Among those at the church meeting was Senior Master Sgt. Phillip Monk. The 19-year veteran was punished after he refused to tell his lesbian commander his position on gay marriage. I was the first reporter to tell his story.

Monk disagreed with his commander when she wanted to severely reprimand a new instructor who had expressed religious objections to homosexuality.

The senior master sergeant was relieved of his duties after he refused her order to disclose his personal opinion about gay marriage.

Monk, who had a spotless record, filed a religious discrimination complaint against the Air Force. When he showed up for a meeting about the complaint, he was accused of giving false statements to me – and was subsequently read his Miranda Rights.

Monk is now facing a possible court martial.

One airman was told that even thinking that homosexuality is a sin is discriminatory.

“A commander told him, ‘Don’t you understand discrimination – that your thought process is discrimination?’” Pastor Branson said. “The commander actually pulled up the definition of discrimination on Wikipedia and read it to him in front of everyone so he would understand what it was.”

“What’s your religion, little boy?” a master sergeant asked the young man. When he answered “Christian” he had to repeat Basic Training.

One member of the military was written up for having his Bible out – while a Muslim was allowed to publicly display a prayer rug.

“They’re getting mirandized several times a month – but most of the accusations never stick,” Branson tells me. “Branson said he’s getting email and letters from military personnel across the country – telling him their stories of religious persecution – and asking for help.

Pastor Branson told me he fears there may soon be a mass exodus of Christians from the military.

    entire story

There’s quite a bit of news on this growing problem in the military. Perhaps it’s time for a presidential act in the US Military when it comes to religious and personal believes unrelated
to their job of “don’t ask. don’t tell”. But, then the military appears to forget their mission and focus on sex.

    • Noyzmakr says:

If all christian minded people refuse to join the military it will be a dream come true for the progressives, that is until they realize there aren’t enough queers to keep the country safe. Then Charlie Rangel will get his wish and they’ll enforce a draft on all except those they wish to protect, like their voters. Obama can hand out more exemptions. Maybe the only thing he’s been good at in 5 years. WE’RE DOOMED!

    • canary says:

Noyzmaker: If all Christian minded refused to join the military there wouldn’t be a military.

I’d just be happy if all the whities and crackers refused to join, as there would be no military.

I’d love to see the draft, but just like voting in this country, I truly believe the draft would be rigged.

85% of Military service is white. The number grows.

Software, Design Defects Cripple Health-Care Website
Government Acknowledges It Needs to Fix Design and Software Problems
    The Wall Street Journal

Six days into the launch of insurance marketplaces created by the new health-care law, the federal government acknowledged for the first time Sunday it needed to fix design and software problems that have kept customers from applying online for coverage.

The Obama administration said last week that an unanticipated surge of Web traffic caused most of the problems and was a sign of high demand by people seeking to buy coverage under the new law.

Wis. choir halts practices following religious music rule

WAUSAU, Wis. — A new administrative rule to limit religious music has caused Wausau West High School’s elite choir group to temporarily disband and the city’s elementary schools to postpone holiday concerts.

Wausau West choral director Phil Buch says district administrators gave schools three options – limit religious music, hold a concert without holiday music or postpone any concerts in December. Buch said the Master Singers choir group is invited to sing at nearly a dozen holiday concerts each year. He said the directive is unacceptable.

Just in time for the holidays!

On 14 March 2013 CERN confirmed that:
“CMS and ATLAS have compared a number of options for the spin-parity of this particle, and these all prefer no spin and positive parity [two fundamental criteria of a Higgs boson consistent with the Standard Model]. This, coupled with the measured interactions of the new particle with other particles, strongly indicates that it is a Higgs boson.”

it gets a bit heavy here …

“In November 2012, in a conference in Kyoto researchers said evidence gathered since July was falling into line with the basic Standard Model more than its alternatives, with a range of results for several interactions matching that theory’s predictions”
Requirement and = Current status (March 2013)

1 Zero spin = Spin-0 tentatively confirmed in March 2013

2 and not − parity = Positive parity tentatively confirmed

3 Decay channels (outcomes of particle decaying) are as predicted = γ γ, WW and ZZ observed; bb, τ τ not yet confirmed. Some branching levels (decay rates) are a little higher than expected in preliminary results, in particular H → γ γ which gives a peak at ATLAS a little higher than that seen in 4-lepton decays and at CMS.

    4 Couples to mass
(ie, interacts with particles that have mass) = Couplings to mass strongly evidenced (“At 95% confidence level cV is within 15% of the standard model value cV=1”).

5 Higher energy results remain consistent = To be studied following LHC upgrade

“based on other particles that are still being understood long after their discovery, it may take years to be sure, and decades to fully understand the particle that has been found.”

and seeing they are the only ones that can “peer ” review anything, it must be a Fact, given the unshackable PROOF.

Nobel Prize in Physics Awarded for Theories on Mass, Tied to Higgs Boson

      ABC News

Just about a year after the discovery of the elusive “God particle,” the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded Peter Higgs and François Englert with the Nobel Prize in Physics today.
The prize isn’t for the discovery of the Higgs boson itself, but for the physicists proposing two independent theories about how particles acquire mass.
Like this year’s Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, the physics prize was rewarded to research done several decades ago. Both Englert and Higgs published their initial theories of particles acquiring mass in 1964. But it was only as recently as last year that physicists at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN were able to put the theory to the test, observing a particle that fit the description of the Higgs boson.
The so-called “Standard Model” of particle physics explains how subatomic particles like electrons and quarks interact with one another. While much of the Standard Model neatly falls into place thanks to the existence of the Higgs boson, there are still other problems that physicists are looking into to figure out why the universe is the way it is.
The topics of dark matter and dark energy are still at the forefront puzzles that physicists are looking to solve, Englert added.

Cheers To Water: First Lady Michelle Obama Asks Everyone to “Drink Up” With More Water!

Posted by Elyse Cohen, Deputy Director, Let’s Move! on September 13, 2013

    (excerpts from the site)

Yesterday, First Lady Michelle Obama joined the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) and actress Eva Longoria to announce PHA’s new effort to encourage everyone to drink more water.

According to the CDC, … “Drink Up”. It’s a simple action that everyone can take.

Mrs. Obama led a toast to water followed by an array of festival-like water games at Watertown High

The Drink Up logo, will be featured on nearly 300 million packs of bottled water; more than a half a billion bottles of water; 200,000 packages of reusable bottles; and more than 10,000 reusable bottles in the next year. Cities will also be utilizing the logo to encourage people to drink more tap water. And hosts on a dozen TV shows
participated in an around the clock, cross-network, bilingual day of drinking water
and encouraged their audiences to Drink Up.

Drink Up is a “nationwide effort to inspire Americans to drink more water,” said Mrs. Obama.

“We simply want everyone to know that we are what we drink, and when we drink water, we certainly drink up.”

Russian Forces Beat Back Libya Embassy Attack, Save Ambassador’s Life

The Daily Caller: Russian embassy in Libya attacked [VIDEO]

During the assault, an armed mob breached the compound, which is considered Russian sovereign soil, after climbing the walls and breaking through the main gate. Reports say that shots were fired into the air as this was taking place. In an ensuing exchange of gunfire, the Russian flag was torn down from a balcony, one of the attackers was killed and four attackers were injured.

This is in marked contrast to the assault on the U.S. Embassy compound on September 11, 2012, when an armed mob stormed the compound in Benghazi after a mortar attack, which resulted in the loss of four American lives —

Video posted by TV network RT appears to show a burning vehicle outside of the compound.

FoxNews: Pentagon says charity will pay military death benefits, amid outrage over cut-off

    October 09, 2013

The Pentagon announced Wednesday that a charity will step in to pay death benefits to the families of fallen soldiers, in response to widespread outrage over the payments being cut off amid the partial government shutdown.

But in a rapid turn of events, the Pentagon announced minutes later that it had entered into an agreement with the non-profit Fisher House Foundation to keep the payments flowing to families — without the need for congressional action.

“In consultation with the Office of Management and Budget, DoD has determined that we can enter into a contract with the Fisher House Foundation to provide these benefits,” Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said in a statement, while saying he was “offended” and “outraged” that the partial shutdown prevented the Pentagon from making the payments.

GOP leaders have disputed that point. They say legislation approved last week to pay the military should have given the Pentagon the ability to pay death benefits.

Hagel claimed the administration still “lacked the necessary authority,” and so turned to the Fisher House Foundation for help.

“It is absolutely appalling and nothing short of a travesty that elected officials continue to receive paychecks and benefits while not providing for those who deserve it most,” he said.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said President Obama was “very disturbed to learn of this problem” and directed the Pentagon to work with the White House budget office to correct it.

A senior U.S. defense official told Fox News that the total number of families affected is actually 26 — the number of U.S. servicemembers who have died since Oct. 1. Twenty of them died in the U.S.; six were killed in Afghanistan. All 26 families were not receiving the $100,000 payments.

Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki testified before a House committee on Wednesday that if the impasse is not resolved by the end of the month, millions of veterans will see their compensation and other VA payments halted.

The remains of four of the six soldiers killed in Afghanistan were returned on Wednesday to Dover Air Force Base, Del. Hagel traveled to the air force base for the arrival.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., wrote to Hagel on Tuesday complaining about the suspension of the $100,000 death benefit and accusing the Pentagon of making that decision on the basis of a “careless legal interpretation.”

Administration officials have said the decision was based on a legal review by government lawyers, including the Justice Department.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said President Obama was “very disturbed…”

Osama Bin Laden’s Mentor & Friend Running for President of Afghanistan

Reuters: Man who brought al Qaeda to Afghanistan now runs for president

    Oct 3, 2013

KABUL (Reuters) – The man said to be responsible for bringing al Qaeda to Afghanistan announced he was running for president on Thursday, a move likely to be greeted with apprehension by the international community.

President Hamid Karzai is barred from running by the constitution, and the new government is seen as an opportunity to push the country away from years of damaging allegations of corruption and maladministration.

“Today I nominate myself in order to serve my countrymen and my nation – I want to stand alongside the true servants of Afghanistan,” Abdul Rassoul Sayyaf told Reuters minutes before he registered at the offices of Kabul’s Independent Election Commission.

NATO and the U.S. are also pushing for a credible vote ahead of the exit of tens of thousands of foreign combat troops by the end of the next year.

The Philippine insurgent group Abu Sayyaf is named after him and he was mentioned in the 9/11 commission reports as “mentor” to Khalid Sheikh Muhammad, the operational mastermind of the September 11, 2001, attacks.

In 1996, Sayyaf helped bin Laden return to Afghanistan after he was ejected from Sudan.
