Syrian spring activist rebels abduct and hold 21 UN Troops hostage

AP: Syria: Clashes erupt in area where UN troops held

BEIRUT (AP) — Clashes between Syrian rebels and regime forces erupted Saturday near a village where U.N. peacekeepers are being held hostage, an activist said, possibly complicating efforts to free them.

The U.N. force has been monitoring an Israeli-Syrian ceasefire for four decades without incident, and their abduction added another destabilizing twist to Syria’s civil war.

The Filipino peacekeepers, who were taken on Wednesday, are being held in the basements of several houses in the village of Jamlah, near the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, U.N. officials said.

The peacekeepers were taken by a rebel group calling itself the Martyrs of the Yarmouk Brigades.

In the days leading up to the abduction, rebel fighters had overrun several Syrian military checkpoints in the area, and regime forces responded with shelling attacks.

Rebels initially said they would only release the hostages if Syrian forces withdraw from the area.

At the United Nations, peacekeeping chief Herve Ladsous, on Friday urged regime forces to refrain from retaliation against the village if the U.N. troops are freed.

A video posted Friday and distributed by the U.S. SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors militant forums, showed three U.N. peacekeepers wearing trademark blue U.N. vests over their camouflage uniforms as they sat on a low sofa. In the video, a bearded man with a two-way radio sits down between two of them, puts his arms around their shoulders and flashes a victory sign.

Nigerian Land of Black Africans (Bilad al-Sudan – Black Jahidist Group ) executes 7 foreign Christians taken hostage.

Nigerian jihadist group executes 7 foreigners

    By Billy Roggio – Mar 9 2013

Ansar al-Muslimeen in the Land of Black Africans (Bilad al-Sudan), an offshoot of the al Qaeda-linked Boko Haram, announced that it executed the hostages in a statement that was released today. The statement, which was released in both English and Arabic, was obtained by the SITE Intelligence Group.

In the statement, Ansar al-Muslimeen said that it had previously “warned that should there be any attempt by force to rescue” the “seven Christians foreigners,” their lives would be in danger.

“By this progress the Nigeria and British government operation lead to the death of all the seven Christians foreigners,” the group concluded.

Ansar al-Muslimeen said it would release a videotape of the execution and included screen shots from the tape that purports to show the bodies of the foreign hostages.

The seven foreigners are said to be from Britain, Italy, Greece, Lebanon, and the Philippines, and worked for a Lebanese construction firm in the northern state of Bauchi.

They were kidnapped on Feb. 17.

Abu Usama al Ansari, the terror group’s emir, said that one of its main goals is “restoring the dignity of the Muslims….

“The method of achieving these aims and goals is “jihad,” al Ansari said.

Reuters: Surge in English-speaking militants worries U.S., European officials

    Mar 8, 2013 – By Mark Hosenball

Increased use of English in videos by Islamic extremists and a rising flow of recruits from Europe to fight in Syria and on other battlegrounds is disturbing U.S. officials who fear some could return to Europe or come to the United States to plot attacks.

Only last week, a man who spoke English and Arabic and called himself Abu Ahmed al-Amriki (Arabic for ‘the American’) starred in a new video message posted on jihadist websites and produced by al Shabaab, the Islamic militant group based in Somalia.

Although the fears of the West have sometimes proven overblown, this video and others highlight what senior U.S. and European security officials say is a fresh increase in English-speaking recruits, including dozens of British citizens, traveling abroad to fight – most notably to Syria.

Earlier in February, a person describing himself as an “American mujahid,” or holy warrior, posted the second of two video messages touting his involvement with rebels fighting the government of Syria, according to Flashpoint Global Partners, a New York-based consulting group which monitors militant websites.

“Bashar Assad, your days are numbered,” the fighter, who spoke in English with an American accent, declared, referring to Syria’s beleaguered president.

“We’ve been monitoring (these developments) and yes, it’s concerning,” said Paul Browne, Deputy Commissioner and spokesman of the New York Police Department, which since the September 11, 2001, attacks has built aggressive counterterrorism operations.

In recent days, al-Qaeda’s Yemen-based affiliate, Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has issued two slick English-language magazines for the would-be weekend holy warrior.

Browne said the NYPD is also “tracking the actual and threatened violence accompanying demands” by militants for the release from a U.S. prison of Omar Abdel Rahman, convicted for his role in New York-related plots in the early 1990s.

If the NYPD are dealing with threats over the 1990’s WTC bomber, than why the heck would the Obama administration and Mayor Bloomberg bring Osama Bin Laden’s son for a Civil Trial.

And why is NYC officials aiding pushing pro-Jihadist adds.

Now we can see why Rand Paul and other Republicans filibustered the appointment of Brennan for CIA who agrees with Obama the definition of JIHAD is “struggle”.

Illinois GOP backs off attempt to oust chairman

CHICAGO (AP) — The Illinois Republican Party’s central committee backed off an attempt to fire party chairman Pat Brady on Saturday, amid concern that ousting him because of his support for gay marriage could damage GOP efforts to appeal to more moderate voters.

THE G.O.P. IS DEAD! just substitute gay marriage with any issue of the day, and you have the reason why the Republicans ANGER their base, lose elections, tarnish their brand name as nothing other than, “We-just-follow-what-ever-the-democrats-do-and-support-a-watered-down-version-of-it” –party.

The Communist Takeover Of America – 45 Declared Goals
    26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.” (meanwhile, the Russian government and people beat, attack, throw rocks at, any attempt by homosexuals to march in pride parades. Wonder why they don’t like their own medicine?)

The conflict recently has spread past the state’s boundaries, and prominent Republicans, including U.S. Mark Kirk and state House Republican Leader Tom Cross, warned that firing Brady would be “a mistake.” They say if the party is going to grow, it needs to be more inclusive and accepting of differences of opinion — particularly in the Democratic-leaning state of Illinois

Oh my god…….SO, the MILLIONS of fired up Libertarians that were out there, Constitutionalists, disheartened Christians, annoyed Conservatives, and other scraps of voters needing a home, DON’T GROW BY APPEALING TO THEM, don’t make obvious coalitions that way, instead, increase your membership by shrinking your base with liberal-democrat outreach, who hate Republicans anyway! It’s addition BY subtraction!
**Honestly, how many additional voters can be won by this method? Did it work for McCain? Did it work for Romney? Why would the possible swayed voter lean Republican when they already have the democrats going full-steam with what they want instead of a Republican half-assing it? Would you vote for a moderately Conservative democrat over a full-throated Conservative Republican? My god NO!
What Hispanic voter would choose 50% amnesty by Republicans vs. 100% amnesty proposed by democrats? –Ah! Insanity at the helm here….

Last month, more than 75 prominent Republicans, including seven former governors and advisers to former President George W. Bush, signed a legal brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down California’s ban on same-sex marriage. Former First Lady Laura Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney also support gay marriage.

The LIBERAL Bush family strikes again. Ugh!

Just like McCain’s daughter, Meghan McCain. Dick Cheney’s daughter. Ron Reagan Jr. Where are the voices of Conservative kids of democrats? Can you name one?

I could go on and on BUT, Republicans need to just copy the democrats in one crucial way: KEEP A SCORE CARD!
    ~Give out jobs.
    ~Give out money.
~Control the election funding of all candidates.
~When you control people’s job and money and election prospects, you KEEP A RUNNING POINT SYSTEM of how reliable they are with party issues.
Do your people show up for protests, and are willing to be bussed in from out of state?
Are they foaming at the mouth?
    Are they getting arrested?
Are they punching reporters in the face, and flipping over hotdog carts?
    Are they supporting party policies?
    Are they supporting legislation?
    Are they vigorously opposing democrats?
–If they don’t have enough points, they are cut off! Fired, laid off, under-funded. Kicked out of ever getting employment anywhere as Republicans, BLACK LISTED as reliable supporters, and replaced with those that witnessed the punishment.

~Nevermind that homosexuality was a mental disorder until gays overturned it in the 70s. Or that NO STUDIES have been conducted showing gay marriage is bad for children, as the government A) won’t fund such things and B) gays and their children won’t respond honestly anyway.
And SCREW THE KIDS! Children don’t need a mother or a father, they can do without, or with 3-4 parents!

      Cantor offers softer GOP message

      YahooNews: http://news.yahoo.com/cantor-offers-softer-gop-message-014627626.html?.tsrc=lgwn

“Our party needs to do a better job at getting to know different constituencies,” Cantor said while speaking at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

Code words for “We need to stop opposing social issues based on conscience, moral/religious grounds, -reality, because we think the groups that HATE US will be more inclined to vote for us in the future. And we don’t care about patching up the MASSIVE GASH leaking our voters to the “I-don’t-give-a-crap-anymore” group.”

On immigration, Cantor stopped short of endorsing a comprehensive package, but said children of illegal immigrants should have a pathway to citizenship.
“I say if we’re unable to get a comprehensive bill done first, at least we can start with the kids,” he said.

Translation: “We need to bring in MORE DEMOCRATS into our country, that soak up social resources, without any background checks, disease checks, skills check, or paying money for a Visa or Passport, all for the sake of looking like we have a heart in the HERE AND NOW. And of course, we will allow ourselves to be manipulated by the democrats by EXPLOITING children to open the doorway for the next disastrous step in destroying our country that is already WELL BEYOND any reasonable attempts to save it financially.”

Everywhere you look, Republicans are tripping over themselves trying to be more moderate like McCain, thinking that their errors are because of it. At what point do we kick these people out of the party and take over?

Federal Government B-24 Project – Infant & Toddler Diet to Prevent Obesity includes Breastfeeding

CNSNews: Federal Government Will Issue Dietary Guidelines–for Infants

    Mar 6 2013 – By Susan Jones

    (CNSNews.com) –

The project will produce “unified federal dietary guidance for children from birth to 24 months based on the best available science,” said Kevin Concannon, the Agriculture Department’s Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services.

Government officials from USDA and the Health and Human Services Department recently gathered with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the World Health Organization, and other health groups and universities to examine existing literature and make recommendations for additional public and private research — some of it to be funded with taxpayer dollars, no doubt.

CNS News: Del. Holmes Norton: A Shrinking Federal Government is Why There’s Little Private Sector Growth

    Mar 11 2013 – By Eric Scheiner

(CNSNews.com) – Del. Eleanor Norton (D-District of Columbia) says private sector jobs are not showing much growth because the federal government is shrinking.

The delegate discussed her economic theory during last Friday’s House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee hearing on “The Impact of Sequestration on Women and Families.”

    (more and video)

“… they are having to grow it all by themselves and that is why we don’t have much growth,” Holmes Norton said.”

Obama Care leading to Americans having to work 2 jobs skyrocketing harming health of families.
Obama Care leads to families using more gasoline and fuel pollution, the working of 4 jobs or more will lead to more children staying home alone; rarely seeing parents, and the cost of day care increasing do to dead time, will lead to unhealthy family environments and increase poverty.

It’s official. Federal Government changes 40 hours per week as full-time to 30 hours per week as full-time.

The WSJ: ObamaCare and the ’29ers’

How the new mandates are already reducing full-time employment.

Here’s a trend you’ll be reading more about: part-time “job sharing,” not only within firms but across different businesses.

Welcome to the strange new world of small-business hiring under ObamaCare.

(The law says “equivalent” because two 15 hour a week workers equal one full-time worker.) Employers that pass the 50-employee threshold and don’t offer insurance face a $2,000 penalty for each uncovered worker beyond 30 employees. So by hiring the 50th worker, the firm pays a penalty on the previous 20 as well.

Thousands of employers will face a $40,000 penalty if they dare expand and hire a 50th worker.

A 2011 Hudson Institute study estimates that this insurance mandate will cost the franchise industry $6.4 billion and put 3.2 million jobs “at risk.”

Because other federal employment regulations also kick in when a firm crosses the 50 worker threshold, employers are starting to cap payrolls at 49 full-time workers. These firms have come to be known as “49ers.”

Businesses that hire young and lower-skilled workers are also starting to put a ceiling on the work week of below 30 hours. These firms are the new “29ers.”

So the cutbacks and employment dodges are underway.

The savings from restricting hours worked can be enormous.

Moving to 33 hours a week costs the employer about $10 an hour more in ObamaCare tax.

But the damage won’t be limited to franchisees or restaurants.

This week Nigel Travis, the CEO of Dunkin’ Donuts, asked Congress to change the health law’s definition of full-time to 40 hours a week from 30 hours so worker hours won’t have to be cut.

Al-Qaeda and Jihadists now growing in Southern Africa; the continent’s last border adorning themselves with chains of Islam slavery.

Christian Science Monitor: Key signs that Al Qaeda’s Islamic extremism is moving into southern Africa

A surge of sectarian strife and Al Qaeda-linked terrorism in Tanzania signals that Africa’s jihadist wave is expanding south. The failure of the international community to assist Tanzania in tackling the roots of Islamic extremism will likely allow it to grow.

By Jay Radzinski and Daniel Nisman- Mar 12 2013

“I pointed out to you the stars, and all you saw was the tip of my finger.” This Tanzanian proverb should resonate deeply with anyone who fears the spread of Islamic extremism in Africa.

On Tanzania’s island paradise of Zanzibar, the killing of a Catholic Priest by Muslim extremists last month points to a series of mounting and long-ignored signals that the continent’s jihadist wave is expanding south.

As witnessed in Somalia and Mali, the failure of the international community to assist Tanzania in tackling the roots of Islamic extremism will likely allow it to grow.

Bloomberg: How Misguided U.S. Aid Contributed to Mali’s Coup

    By Mark Moyar – Mar 11 2013

In driving al-Qaeda and other extremists from Mali’s towns, the French military has restored a semblance of order. But the underlying problems that led to the country’s meltdown persist, leaving its government and its allies in peril.

Most of the extremists are at large, waiting in the shadows for the departure of the French, who have delegated long-term security to African forces.

The Economic Community of West African States has pledged 8,000 troops, not nearly enough to secure an area the size of Texas.

Today, as a year ago, incompetence plagues the security forces, corruption the civil administration.

Until March 2012, when a cataclysmic military coup caused the State Department to suspend all assistance, the U.S. concentrated its aid on Mali’s economic and social development, on the theory that extremism could best be defeated by alleviating poverty.

In 2011, the U.S. spent $221 million on irrigation, transportation, education, health and other development initiatives.

Only such a reapportionment of assistance can prevent al-Qaeda from using Mali as a staging ground for further attacks on Americans in Libya or Algeria, or in the U.S.

(Mark Moyar, an independent national security consultant and author, is writing a book on U.S. foreign assistance. The opinions expressed are his own.)
