This just doesn’t make any sense to me at all. Every political generation thinks they can solve the Arab “Gordian Knot.” The reason DETROIT fails no matter who is put in charge of it, is because the pool of talent is stagnant. There is no person available that is worthy enough to lead.

No matter who you put in charge of these Arab countries, they will always let us down. They will turn corrupt, if they aren’t all ready, they will back-stab us every time.

This is just a continuing failure to understand what Islam is, what it believes, what its objectives are, and how it suggests to reach those objectives, and how these people view the West / Democracy / Culture / Our Religion / Politics / Morals & Values. We are still mentally living in the 1940’s in which we think we can influence other countries like we did with Japan, Italy, and Germany.

How many more decades must we dumbfoundedly slap our heads before we realize these people are incorrigible? Dealing with these people is equivalent to punching yourself in the face, eventually you have to figure it out.

*Even GOD HIMSELF didn’t bother reforming the Earth’s corrupt population, he just flooded it, started over with new stock.

3 News: AP: US sends forces to Jordan

Oct 11 2012 – Lolita C Baldor and Pauline Jelinek

The United States has sent military troops to the Jordan-Syria border to bolster that country’s military capabilities in the event that violence escalates along its border with Syria, Defence[sic] Secretary Leon Panetta said Wednesday.

“We have a group of our forces there working to help build a headquarters there and to insure that we make the relationship between the United States and Jordan a strong one so that we can deal with all the possible consequences of what’s happening in Syria,” Panetta said.

Several dozen refugees in Jordan rioted in their desert border camp of Zaatari early this month, destroying tents and medicine and leaving scores of refugee families out in the night cold.

Turkey’s military chief Gen Necdet Ozel vowed Wednesday to respond with more force to any further shelling from Syria, keeping up the pressure on its southern neighbours a day after NATO said it stood ready to defend Turkey.

Shocking: Clinton says Obama will continue aiding Al-Qaeda spin offs and Islamic extremist rebels all in the name of Democracy in spite of criticism of the failing Arab Spring.

AP: Clinton: US must stick by Arab world’s democracies

By Bradley Klapper and Matthew Lee – Fri, Oct 12, 2012

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, addressing criticism of the Obama administration’s handling of a deadly attack on U.S. consulate in Libya, on Friday defended the need for American diplomats and aid workers in the Arab world’s young democracies, even amid a growing threat from al-Qaida spinoffs.

“We will not retreat,” she said in a speech at a Washington think tank.

“We will never prevent every act of violence or terrorism, or achieve perfect security,” Clinton said. “Our people can’t live in bunkers and do their jobs. But it is our solemn responsibility to constantly improve, to reduce the risks our people face and make sure they have the resources they need to do their jobs.”

Clinton said she wanted to find out exactly what happened in Benghazi more than anyone, but did not go into the specifics of the consulate’s security.

Twenty-one months into the Arab Spring, Clinton stressed that the promise of new democracies in an area of the world long dominated by autocratic rulers has not been lost.

The main strains of criticism from Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and other Republicans are that the U.S. is failing to effectively shape new Arab governments such as Libya and Egypt and that U.S. security at its diplomatic installations has been inadequate.

The secretary of state stressed that the transitions “are not America’s to manage, and certainly not ours to win or lose.” But she said a U.S. leadership role was important “to strengthen democratic institutions, defend universal rights, and drive inclusive economic growth.

On the question of security, she said less.

On Wednesday, two former security officials testified before Congress that their requests for more manpower were either ignored or rejected. Senior State Department officials acknowledged that that was the case but insisted that there was no evidence that more security would have thwarted or otherwise mitigated the attack.

Biden said in Thursday’s vice presidential debate, “We did not know they wanted more security again.”

He also defended the administration’s early explanation that the attack sprang from anti-video protest, saying that had been the judgment of intelligence agencies at the time.

Clinton agreed at an earlier appearance Friday, speaking to reporters alongside Italy’s foreign minister.

“We do not have all the answers. No one in this administration has ever claimed otherwise.”

“We are providing the best information we have at that time and that information continues to be updated, it also continues to be put into context and more deeply understood through the process we are engaged in,” she said.

There are three separate investigations into the attack going on now: an FBI probe into the deaths of the four Americans, an independent inquiry by a panel appointed by Clinton and the congressional hearings.

In her address, which focused particularly on North Africa, Clinton stressed that extremists were trying to hijack democratic transitions under way. She warned of al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb’s growing reach from its stronghold in northern Mali, just south of Libya.

“Last month’s violence revealed strains of extremism that threaten these nations, as well as the broader region and the United States,” Clinton warned. “On the other hand, we’ve seen actions that would have been hard to imagine just a few years ago: Democratically-elected leaders and free people in Arab countries standing up for a peaceful, pluralist future.

“It is too soon to say how these transitions will play out,” she said. “But what’s not in doubt is that America has a big stake in the outcome.”

MoneyNews: Panetta: Cyberattacks Could Become as Destructive as 9/11

    12 Oct 2012

“A cyber attack perpetrated by nation states or violent extremist groups could be as destructive as the terrorist attack of 9/11,” Panetta said Thursday night.

“Such a destructive cyber terrorist attack could paralyze the nation.”

The Defense Department is drafting new rules that will allow the military to defend U.S. “national interests” in addition to its own computer networks, Panetta said in prepared remarks delivered in New York on board the USS Intrepid, an aircraft carrier that’s now a museum.

Panetta offered the highest-level confirmation to date of recent cyber attacks on U.S. and international computer networks and faulted Congress for failing to pass comprehensive cybersecurity legislation this year. In the absence of such a law, President Barack Obama’s administration may issue an executive order, Panetta said.

“We know of specific instances where intruders have successfully gained access to these control systems,” Panetta said. “We also know they are seeking to create advanced tools to attack these systems and cause panic, destruction, and even the loss of life.”

Even more alarming, Panetta said, was an attack two months ago in which a sophisticated virus called Shamoon infected computers at the Saudi Arabian Oil Co., known as Saudi Aramco, and then Ras Gas of Qatar.

He said top U.S. officials, including Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and himself routinely discuss cybersecurity with their foreign counterparts.

“This is a pre-9/11 moment,” Panetta said. “The attackers are plotting. Our systems will never be impenetrable, just like our physical defenses are not perfect. But more can be done to improve them.”

In fact, the administration has told her “outright lies” about the Libya assault, she said.

Pat Smith, the mother of Sean Smith, a State Department official killed in the Libya attack, told CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Wednesday that President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden told her they would tell her the truth about what happened to her son.

“They promised me. I told them please, tell me what happened. Just tell me what happened,” she said. “I told them don’t give me any bologna – you can keep your political stuff. Just tell me the truth. And I still don’t know. In fact, today I heard that he died of smoke inhalation.”

“No, I don’t,” Smith replied. “I look at the TV and I see bloody hand prints on walls thinking, is that my son’s? I don’t know. They haven’t told me anything.”

Smith also said the Obama administration has been telling her “outright lies” about the attack.

“In fact, all of them did. All of them did,” she added. “Leon Panetta actually took my face in his hands like this and he said, ‘trust me. I will tell you what happened.’

Smith also recounted her interaction with President Obama himself at a reception.

“I cried on Obama’s shoulder and then he kind of looked off into the distance,” Smith said. “So that was worthless to me. I want a note for God’s sake.”

Smith also said she told the president that he had “screwed up.”

“I told Obama personally, I said, look, I had him for his first 17 years and then he went into the service, then you got him.

And — I won’t say it the way I said it.

But I said you screwed up, you didn’t do a good job, I lost my son,” Smith said.

There is no common sense for Biden to say they didn’t know American’s in Libya were endangered, especially after what happened in Egypt to those American’s that were banned from leaving.

Yet, they sent Marines to the Caribbean to guard vacationers while they partied. Unbelievable.

The Guardian: Mauritania’s president shot by own army ‘by mistake’

    Oct 14 2012 – Afua Hirsch & Monica Mark

Mauritania’s president, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, is in hospital in France after a bizarre incident in which he was shot in the stomach, apparently by mistake, by his own troops.

Authorities in the west African nation, regarded as a key in the battle against al-Qaida in the region, insisted the shooting, which took place 25 miles outside the capital, was an accident.

The French government said Abdel Aziz had been admitted to the Percy-Clamart military hospital in Paris.

Mauritanian sources said “jumpy” military guards at a checkpoint mistook Abdel Aziz, who was returning to the capital, Nouakchott, after a trip to the desert, for a security threat.

“We believe the shooting was an accident,” the source said.

Reports say the military and presidential guard worked together to protect the president during the medical procedure, amid scenes of chaos on the streets.

On Sunday morning, military checkpoints, which have been conducting routine searches and identity card checks around the capital for several weeks, were withdrawn.
incident, following initial reports that the shooting was a foiled coup attempt.

“There have been disgruntled middle-ranking soldiers who have been dealt with very swiftly by the regime,” said a senior military source.

“There are a lot of questions going around. The question security is asking is why didn’t the soldiers manning the checkpoints know the presidential convoy was passing. The president is always very heavily protected, his security detail is excellent.”

Officials declined to comment on what happened to the soldiers at the checkpoint, or if anyone else in the convoy was hurt.

The shooting comes amid months of turbulence for Mauritania, which neighbours northern Mali – where al-Qaida-linked groups control vast swaths of territory – and which has been the subject of explicit threats by extremist groups.

Around 100,000 refugees from Mali have fled into Mauritania, which has a population of 3.5 million, placing additional strain on resources as the country struggles with a food crisis engulfing the Sahel region.

The country is also facing internal upheaval, with growing dissatisfaction with Abdel Aziz, who seized power in a military coup in 2008 before winning presidential elections a year later. Nouakchott has been the scene of opposition marches in recent months, with some commentators describing calls for Abdel Aziz to resign signs of a Mauritanian Arab spring.

“The official line is it was an accident but it’s really not very clear at the moment what happened,” a western diplomat said.

Witnesses say it was a coup who shot Africa’s Mauritania President though he insists it was his own troop who accidentally shot him

CNN: Mauritania’s president heads to France for treatment after shooting

      October 14, 2012

“I want to reassure all citizens of my well-being after the accident committed by an army unit on an unpaved road around Touela. … Everything is fine,” Aziz said in an interview broadcast on official Mauritanian television earlier Sunday.

But witnesses said they believe the incident was an assassination attempt, because unknown armed men shot their guns at the president and ran away, according to the independent Mauritania News agency.

The witnesses said the armed men “directly” targeted the president as he was returning from
his farm in Inchiri province, near the capital, Mauritania News reported.

Mauritania has a history of political instability and faces threats from al Qaeda militants.

A former general, Aziz came to power in a bloodless 2008 military coup — one of many such coups the country of about 3.4 million people has had since it gained independence from France in 1960.

He ousted Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi, who had been the nation’s first democratically elected leader, according to the U.S. State Department.

Aziz was elected president in 2009. Still, the CIA describes the country’s leadership as a “military junta.”

Security in Mauritania has been ratcheted up in recent weeks amid concerns about “armed terrorist groups” in nearby northern Mali, according to Magharebia, a website sponsored by the U.S. Africa Command — a part of the U.S. military focused on the continent.

No official reason has been given for the enhanced security, according to the report. But the publication, quoting terrorism experts and local news reports, said it may be related to threats posed by al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.

In May, the U.S. State Department issued a travel warning for Mauritania because of AQIM activities.

“As a result of perceived Western involvement in counterterrorism efforts, AQIM has declared its intention to attack Western targets,” the warning said.

The Atlantic Wire: Our Allies May Be Arming the Next Osama bin Laden

    by John Hudson

For months, the U.S. has been helping Arab allies coordinate arms shipments to rebel fighters in Syria. Unfortunately, most of those weapons are going to radical Islamists instead of secular opposition groups.

According to a classified government report uncovered by The New York Times’ David Sanger, the flood of Saudi and Qatari weapons into Syria is strengthening the hand of extremist groups in the country, including those with ties to Al Qaeda.

“The opposition groups that are receiving the most of the lethal aid are exactly the ones we don’t want to have it,” a U.S. official says.

“Obviously, no one thinks these Islamist groups “share our values,” but it’s proven extremely difficult to ensure that fundamentalists don’t get their hands on these weapons.”

huh? Obama shares values with Islamist groups. And he won’t stop sharing with the Islamist.
So? How much of Obama’s Arab Spring was charged on the credit card of the US.

From our friends at the Associated Press:

Battery maker A123 files for bankruptcy protection

After years of struggling in the nascent market for electric cars, battery maker A123 Systems Inc. filed for bankruptcy protection Tuesday.

The filing drew criticism from Republicans who claim the Obama administration has wasted millions of taxpayer dollars on alternative energy companies like A123.

The company received a $249 million Department of Energy grant three years ago with high hopes that it would help foster a U.S. battery industry. At the time, the country was far behind the world leaders, Korea and China.

But the technology offered by the Waltham, Mass.-based A123 Systems turned out to be ahead of its time. Americans continue to shun costly electric cars in favor of gas-powered ones.

“Sometimes when you push the edge of technology, you fall over that edge,” said Aaron Bragman, an automotive industry analyst at IHS Automotive near Detroit.

The filing doesn’t necessarily mean the end for A123 System’s operations. The company sold its automotive unit to parts maker Johnson Controls Inc., which plans to keep A123 plants open and sell the company’s lithium-ion battery technology.

But the bankruptcy filing stoked Republican criticism of Obama’s support for “green” energy companies, which have received millions in grants and loans. Almost instantly, A123 became an issue in the presidential campaign.

The bankruptcy is “yet another failure for the president’s disastrous strategy of gambling away billions of taxpayer dollars on a strategy of government-led growth that simply does not work,” Andrea Saul, spokeswoman for Republican challenger Mitt Romney, wrote in an e-mail.

Obama’s campaign countered, saying the investments have more than doubled renewable energy production from wind and solar sources, creating jobs and bringing manufacturing back to the country. The administration has said the “vast majority” of companies that received loans are still expected to pay them back in full, with interest.

A123 joins solar panel maker Solyndra LLC as another example of companies that got government money but failed. The politically connected and now bankrupt Solyndra left taxpayers on the hook for $528 million after it failed to repay a government loan.

The government also made millions in loans to electric car makers Tesla Motors and Fisker Automotive, both of which are struggling. Tesla has never made a profit but is starting to repay its loans, while Fisker is trying to raise money so it can build a car that’s less expensive than its $100,000 Karma. …

It’s nice to see that the Obama administration still expects “payment in full, with interest” from these bankrupt companies.

I guess it’s big business that’s at fault:

Under Tuesday’s deal, Johnson Controls will pay $125 million for A123’s lithium-ion battery technology, other products and customer contacts. It will also take over A123’s two Michigan factories, cathode ray factories in China and an equity interest in a Chinese battery company.

Nice buy, Johnson Controls – $125 million for a company that blew through over $249 million in taxpayer dollars.

World Tribune: Rights group: Islamist government in Tunisia ignoring Al Qaida attacks

    Oct 16 2012 Special to WorldTribune.com

WASHINGTON — Tunisia has been accused of ignoring increasing attacks
by the Al Qaida-inspired Salafist movement.

A leading U.S. watchdog said Tunisia’s new Islamist government has
failed to investigate a series of Salafist assaults on secular opponents in
2012. Human Rights Watch said the Salafists have attacked students,
journalists and opposition activists without fear of prosecution.

“The failure of Tunisian authorities to investigate these attacks
entrenches the religious extremists’ impunity and may embolden them to commit more violence,” HRW deputy director Joe Stork said.

In a statement on Oct. 15, the New York-based organization said Tunisia, a leading Arab ally of the United States, has not prosecuted anybody for the Salafist attacks. HRW said six complaints were filed to police over the last year.

‘Terrorists have tried time and again to make New York City their killing field,” New York Police Department Commissioner Raymond Kelly said today in a statement, adding that the city has faced 15 terror plots since the 2001 attacks.

Some of the alleged terror plots have been, like this one, sting operations in which federal agents identified suspects who were provided with inert explosives and other materials and subsequently arrested and charged by U.S. prosecutors.

Defense lawyers and legal experts have said that such initiatives may constitute entrapment of individuals who were not predisposed to committing a crime.

The FBI said today that Nafis came to the U.S. in January with the intent to explode a bomb on U.S. soil, and sought out individuals to assist. FBI agents posed as co-conspirators as part of the sting operation, the government said.

Nafis is scheduled to appear in federal court in Brooklyn, New York later today. Andrea Priest, a spokeswoman for the New York Fed declined to comment.

Reuters: For Benghazi diplomatic security, U.S. relied on small British firm

By Tabassum Zakaria, Susan Cornwell and Hadeel Al Shalchi

    Oct 17 2012

WASHINGTON/BENGHAZI, Libya (Reuters) – The State Department’s decision to hire Blue Mountain Group to guard the ill-fated U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, entrusted security tasks to a little-known British company instead of the large firms it usually uses in overseas danger zones.

The contract was largely based on expediency, U.S. officials have said, since no one knew how long the temporary mission would remain in the Libyan city.

The cradle of last year’s uprising that ended Muammar Gaddafi’s 42-year rule, Benghazi has been plagued by rising violence in recent months.

Security practices at the diplomatic compound, where Blue Mountain guards patrolled with flashlights and batons instead of guns,…

Federal contract data shows that the Benghazi security contract, worth up to $783,284, was listed as a “miscellaneous” award, not as part of the large master State Department contract that covers protection for overseas embassies.

Blue Mountain hired about 20 Libyan men – including some who say they had minimal training – to screen visitors and help patrol the mission at Benghazi, according to Reuters interviews.

State Department security officials had their own concerns about some of the guards at the mission months before the recent attack, according to emails obtained by Reuters this week.

One guard who had been recently fired and another on the company’s payroll were suspected of throwing a homemade bomb into the U.S. compound in April. They were questioned but not charged.

The State Department has declined to comment on the company other than confirming it was the contractor in Benghazi.

The website once listed General Motors as a client, and a GM spokeswoman in Detroit told Reuters that Blue Mountain’s work for the company was “on a very limited basis and mostly in the UK.”
