NewsMax: Report: Axelrod Sought to Intimidate Gallup When Findings Favored Romney

    06 Sep 2012 – By Todd Beamon

Emails between senior officials of the Gallup Organization show senior Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod attempting to subtly intimidate the polling firm when its numbers were unfavorable to the president.

After Gallup declined to change its polling methodology, the U.S. Department of Justice hit it with an unrelated lawsuit — alleging it had defrauded the government, The Daily Caller reports.

“We obviously have a copy that has been distributed online, but until it is served, it is not official,” the Gallup official said.

Justice Department officials did not respond to queries from The Daily Caller regarding the lawsuit.

As such, Axelrod directed his Twitter followers to read a report in the National Journal criticizing Gallup polls that showed Romney ahead.

In response to that email, a third senior Gallup official said he thought Axelrod’s pressure “sounds a little like a Godfather situation,” The Daily Caller reports.

The various emails directly contradict what Axelrod’s fellow Obama campaign adviser Robert Gibbs told The Washington Times this week about the campaign’s dealings with Gallup.

“I was the press secretary for two years,” Gibbs told the publication on Tuesday at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

“I know and it was really smart not to get involved in discussing things around the Justice Department that I have no knowledge about.

Aide: Rep. Jackson home after depression treatment

CHICAGO (AP) — U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has returned to his home in Washington after treatment for depression at Mayo Clinic, Jackson’s chief of staff in suburban Chicago said Friday.

“He’s at home in Washington convalescing with his wife and children,” Jackson aide Rick Bryant said. “Let’s hope he returns to work on Monday.”

The congressman went on a secretive medical leave in June, when family members said he collapsed at home. His office said in August that he was being treated at Mayo because of depression, after a transfer from the Sierra Tucson Treatment Center in Arizona.

The clinic in Rochester, Minn., has said Jackson was being treated for Bipolar II, which means he was suffering from periodic episodes of depression and hypomania.

Former Rhode Island U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy, who also has dealt with bipolar disorder and been treated at Mayo, said after visiting Jackson at the clinic last month that the current congressman has “a lot of work” ahead of him on the road to recovery.

He said Jackson was taking his depression seriously and will have to learn how to treat his illness.

Kennedy, who served with Jackson on the House Appropriations Committee, left Congress last year. He has been an outspoken advocate for mental health and spoken publicly about his own struggles.

Jackson first won office in 1995, and had his sights set on being a U.S. senator or Chicago’s mayor.

A pending House Ethics Committee investigation focuses on allegations that Jackson discussed raising money for Blagojevich’s campaign so the then-Illinois governor would appoint him to President Barack Obama’s vacated Senate seat.

Jackson’s office announced his medical leave days after a former fundraiser connected to the allegations was arrested on unrelated federal medical fraud charges.

So, the reason for Jackson and his families willingness to disregard privacy and give out numerous diagnosis from numerous medical and treatment facilities will perhaps lead to softer sentence if charged.

And with former Rep Patrick Kennedy’s drug addiction and abuse newly bipolar disorder explaining his rantings, outbursts, and delusional feelings of grandiose, he shows more grandiose in throwing
Jackson under the bus, and declaring him unfit to hold office, or that sour grapes as it is a
a coincidence that both politicians served together on the House Appropriations Committee.

If Jackson doesn’t make it work Monday he will he be able to work with the rest of the Obama team to get him re-elected or is Obama ready to throw him under the bus too.

Obama hands over U.S. run prison to corrupt Afghanistans in spite of their releasing dangerous prisoners. U.S. is concerned, but not Obama.

Air Force Times: AP: U.S. hands control of Bagram prison to Afghans

By Amir Shah and Patrick Quinn – Sept 10 2012

KABUL, Afghanistan — U.S. officials handed over formal control of Afghanistan’s only large-scale U.S.-run prison to Kabul on Monday, even as disagreements between the two countries over the Taliban and terror suspects held there marred the transfer.

The handover ceremony took place at the prison next to a sprawling U.S. airfield in Bagram, just north of Kabul. President Hamid Karzai has hailed the transfer as a victory for Afghan sovereignty.

Bagram, also known as the Parwan Detention Facility, has been the focus of controversy in the past but never had the notoriety of the prisons at Guantanamo Bay or Abu Ghraib in Iraq.

“We are telling the Afghan president and the Afghan people that today is a proud day,” said Afghan army Gen. Ghulam Farouk, who now heads the prison.

The U.S. reportedly fears that Afghan authorities may simply let some detainees go, and appears reluctant to turn over all the suspects it holds.

The United States and its allies are drawing down their military forces in Afghanistan and hope to fully hand over control to the Afghans by the end of 2014, when most foreign troops are to leave the country.

AirForceTimes: AP: Memos show U.S. hushed up Soviet crime

By Randy Herschaft and Vanessa Gera –

WARSAW, Poland — The American POWs sent secret coded messages to Washington with news of a Soviet atrocity: In 1943 they saw rows of corpses in an advanced state of decay in the Katyn forest, on the western edge of Russia, proof that the killers could not have been the Nazis, who had only recently occupied the area.

The testimony about the infamous massacre of Polish officers might have lessened the tragic fate that befell Poland under the Soviets, some scholars believe. Instead, it mysteriously vanished into the heart of American power. The long-held suspicion is that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt didn’t want to anger Josef Stalin, an ally the Americans were counting on to defeat Germany and Japan during World War II.

Documents released Monday and seen in advance by The Associated Press lend weight to the belief that suppression within the highest levels of the U.S. government helped cover up Soviet guilt in the killing of some 22,000 Polish officers and other prisoners in the Katyn forest and other locations in 1940.

The most dramatic revelation so far is the evidence of the secret codes sent by the two American POWs — something historians were unaware of and which adds to evidence that the Roosevelt administration knew of the Soviet atrocity relatively early on.

The Soviet secret police killed the 22,000 Poles with shots to the back of the head.

The men were among Poland’s most accomplished — officers and reserve officers who in their civilian lives were doctors, lawyers, teachers or other professionals.

In a final report released in 1952, the committee declared there was no doubt of Soviet guilt and called the massacre “one of the most barbarous international crimes in world history.” It found that Roosevelt’s administration suppressed public knowledge of the crime but said it was out of military necessity. It also recommended the government bring charges against the Soviets at an international tribunal — something never acted upon.

It’s an important revelation because it shows the Roosevelt administration was getting information early on from credible U.S. sources of Soviet guilt — yet still ignored it for the sake of the alliance with Stalin.

A statement from Stewart dated 1950 confirms he received and sent coded messages to Washington during the war, including one on Katyn: “Content of my report was aprx (approximately): German claims regarding Katyn substantially correct in opinion of Van Vliet and myself.”

The newly uncovered documents also show Stewart was ordered in 1950 — soon before the congressional committee began its work — never to speak about a secret message on Katyn.

Krystyna Piorkowska, author of the recently published book “English-Speaking Witnesses to Katyn: Recent Research,” discovered the documents related to the coded messages more than a week ago. She was one of several researchers who saw the material ahead of the public release.

Another Katyn expert aware of the documents, Allen Paul, author of “Katyn: Stalin’s Massacre and the Triumph of Truth,” told the AP the find is “potentially explosive.” He said the material does not appear in the record of the congressional hearings in 1951-52 and appears to have also been suppressed.

He argues that the U.S. cover-up delayed a full understanding in the United States of the true nature of Stalinism — an understanding that came only later, after the Soviets exploded an atomic bomb in 1949 and after Poland and the rest of Eastern Europe were already behind the Iron Curtain.

The historical record carries other evidence Roosevelt knew in 1943 of Soviet guilt. One of the most important messages that landed on FDR’s desk was an extensive and detailed report British Prime Minister Winston Churchill sent him. Written by the British ambassador to the Polish government-in-exile in London, Owen O’Malley, it pointed to Soviet guilt at Katyn.

“There is now available a good deal of negative evidence,” O’Malley wrote, “the cumulative effect of which is to throw serious doubt on Russian disclaimers of responsibility for the massacre.”

It wasn’t until the waning days of Soviet hegemony over Eastern Europe that reformist leader Mikhail Gorbachev publicly admitted to Soviet guilt at Katyn, a key step in Polish-Russian reconciliation.

These facts, as you know, were not revealed until 1990, when the Russians officially apologized to Poland.”

Carter says U.S. has worst election process in the entire world. Wife continues to fight for mental health.

AP: Former President Carter says ‘financial corruption’ harms US elections

    Sept 12, 2012

Speaking at the international human rights center that bears his name, Carter said “we have one of the worst election processes in the world right in the United States of America, and it’s almost entirely because of the excessive influx of money.”

Carter praised Mexico and several countries where Carter Center staff have monitored publicly financed elections, and he said the United States should return to publicly financed elections for president.

The system technically is still in place, but it is voluntary and both President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney have chosen to bypass the taxpayer money because they can amass far more on their own.

“You know how much I raised to run against Gerald Ford? Zero,” Carter said, referring to his 1976 general election opponent.

“You know how much I raised to run against Ronald Reagan? Zero.

You know how much will be raised this year by all presidential, Senate and House campaigns? $6 billion. That’s 6,000 millions.”

The 87-year-old Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, appeared at The Carter Center to deliver a report on their human rights and public health initiatives around the world.

The United States, Carter said, has “less influence” over Middle East nations and diplomacy in that region than it has had at any time since Israel was established as a nation-state in 1948.

He praised the Venezuelan election process.

He described a touch-screen voting system that immediately records a vote in a centralized location, while also printing out a ballot receipt that allows a voter to check the accuracy of the vote. He noted “criticism of the outcome” of recent elections there but said President Hugo Chavez won “fairly and squarely.”

Rosalynn Carter, who concentrates much of her work on mental health access and education, highlighted on ongoing effort to educate mental health professionals in Liberia.

In the United States, she said public financing for mental health treatment is often among the first casualties of tight budgets because of the continuing stigma of the conditions.

Out of fear, she said, family members and advocates “don’t rise up and become concerned about it … to the degree I’d like them to.”

The former president celebrated the approaching end of the Guinea worm, a parasite that is among the world’s oldest known maladies.

Eliminating the condition, Carter said, “will be one of the crowning achievements of my life.

Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy had a gun pointed at him Sunday while picking up his daughter from church, police said.

The suspect, reportedly identified as a 52-year-old woman, was arrested after the incident.

Police later issued a statement saying the suspect walked up to Gowdy’s vehicle “displaying a handgun” while he was waiting in the church parking lot. She twice told him to “stop following me,” police said, though he explained he was just waiting to pick up a family member. According to police, Gowdy then put his car in reverse as the suspect “started running after him on foot across the parking lot.”

FoxNews: Early frost? White House gives chilly response to proposed Obama-Netanyahu meeting

      Sept 11, 2012

Is Obama making the U.S. defenseless?

McCain: ‘This administration should be ashamed’

Israeli officials confirmed to Fox News earlier in the day that the White House had indeed brushed off such an offer.

A White House spokesman also confirmed that Obama is not expected to meet with Netanyahu, citing scheduling conflicts.

Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said earlier they were “surprised and disappointed” by the initial reports.

“If these reports are true, the White House’s decision sends a troubling signal to our ally Israel about America’s commitment at this dangerous and challenging time, especially as Iran continues to work actively toward developing a nuclear weapons capability,” they said.

Aside from initial reports in Israeli media, Israeli sources described the meeting offer to Fox News. They said that Netanyahu, though he plans to be in New York City during his brief stay, was offering to travel to D.C. to make the meeting happen.

However, the White House apparently said Obama’s tight schedule — the president is in the middle of a feverish campaign run — would make a meeting difficult.

White House spokesman Tommy Vietor confirmed to Fox News that Obama is not expected to meet with Netanyahu, though insisted it was just a scheduling problem.

“They’re simply not in the city at the same time,” Vietor said.

In addition, a senior administration official told Fox News that the president will be addressing the U.N. General Assembly and the Clinton Global Initiative when in New York.

But he will not be having one-on-one meetings with world leaders so this should not be seen as a snub of Netanyahu.

But the turn-down comes amid increasing international anxiety about Iran’s nuclear program. The U.N. reportedly has found new intelligence showing Iran is moving toward nuclear weapon capability.

“I’m astounded that (Obama) cannot find the time,” former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton said. “I don’t see it so much as a snub as a horrible, substantive mistake in American foreign policy.”

But as of now, Obama is scheduled to be on the campaign trail during the window of time when Netanyahu can make it to Washington “Discussions are ongoing,” the source emphasized.

Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, tweeted: “How ironic that the #POTUS has time for high dollar $40K-a-head fundraiser with @JayZ and @Beyonce but not for the PM of Israel.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Netanyahu launched an unprecedented critique of the U.S. government and others over their stance on the Iranian nuclear program, according to the English-language news site Haaretz.

“The world tells Israel ‘wait, there’s still time,’” the site quotes Netanyahu as saying. “And I say, ‘Wait for what? Wait until when?’ …”

Democrats upset Israel supporters last week when they removed language in the party platform that acknowledged Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Jerusalem Post: Lieberman: Obama should define how to stop Iran

      by Hilary Leila Krieger 9/11/2012

WASHINGTON — Senator Joseph Lieberman encouraged US President Barack Obama on Monday to clearly define America’s red lines on Iran’s nuclear program.

“I hope he can find a way to really spell out with just a little more detail” what the US is willing to do to prevent Iran from become a nuclear power, Lieberman told The Jerusalem Post following an appearance at a B’nai B’rith conference.

“It ought to be led by the United States of America, which has the most significant military capabilities to carry this off and can do it in a way that will not have adverse political consequences for anybody, particularly Israel, in the Middle East,” he argued.

Lieberman said that America taking the lead in such united action next year, coming in the wake of Iranian intransigence, would be backed by US legislators. “There will be overwhelming bipartisan support for that action in the Congress of the United States,” he pledged.

Lieberman had just returned from a trip to the Middle East, where he visited many Arab countries and found “an unsettling prevalence of concern about whether America is still engaged forcefully in the Middle East.”

He said that those he spoke to expressed “a real desire that we show leadership because they still prefer us to any of the alternatives there, and particularly to the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Jerusalem Post: ‘Experts say US missile defense strategy flawed’

A United States National Research Council report found that the US missile defense system is flawed, and the US is subsequently vulnerable to certain types of long-range strikes, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

The 16-person panel, comprising top scientists, engineers and weapon experts, recommended that US President Barack Obama change tack in his defense strategy.

It suggested that Obama expand a system he inherited from former US president George W. Bush in order to be better prepared to defeat the type of long-range missiles Iran may be developing, according to the Times.

In 2009, Obama decided to alter course from the Bush administration’s plan, focusing on the threat of shorter-range ballistic missiles to US forces and allies in Europe and the Middle East.

“For too long, the US has been committed to expensive missile defense strategies without sufficient consideration of the costs and real utility,” the panel’s co-chairman L. David Montague was quoted as saying.

Earlier Tuesday, US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said that if Iran decides to make a nuclear weapon, the United States would have a little more than a year to act to stop it.

JP: US Ambassador: Israel stood by US in darkest hour

      By Jeremy Sharon 9/11/2012

US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro said on Tuesday that his country would not permit Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon, and reiterated America’s “unshakable” alliance with the Jewish state and its “shared commitment” to countering mutual security threats.

He was speaking at a memorial ceremony marking the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks – in which terrorists crashed planes into New York City’s Twin Towers and the Pentagon building in Washington, killing thousands of people – hosted by the US Embassy and Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund at KKL-JNF’s Living Memorial monument, which commemorates 9/11, in the Arazim Park outside Jerusalem.

Turning to the events of September 11, 2001, he said the attacks were felt by Americans as a permanent wound.

Also present at the ceremony was Labor MK Isaac Herzog.

Drawing on the words of US president Franklin D. Roosevelt after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, he said 9/11 was “a day that should be remembered in infamy.”

Herzog talked of the “sense of utter shock at the brutal, violent, despicable act of war against the United States of America” and said it served as “a wake-up call to all those who ignore evil forces and tend to forget lessons of the past.”

He also referenced the Iranian nuclear program, saying the world was yet again “in confrontation against a major source of evil, against Iran, a nation which spreads terror all over the world and vows to destroy Israel and the values with which every American is brought up.”

NavyTimes: Russian ships displayed at DNC tribute to vets

By Sam Fellman – Staff writer
    Sep 11, 2012

Retired Adm. John Nathman speaks on stage with military veterans during the final day of the Democratic National Convention on Sept. 6 in Charlotte, N.C. Experts say the ships in the background are Russian.

On the last night of the Democratic National Convention, a retired Navy four-star took the stage to pay tribute to veterans. Behind him, on a giant screen, the image of four hulking warships reinforced his patriotic message.

But there was a big mistake in the stirring backdrop: those are Russian warships.

While retired Adm. John Nathman, a former commander of Fleet Forces Command, honored vets as America’s best, the ships from the Russian Federation Navy were arrayed like sentinels on the big screen above.

These were the very Soviet-era combatants that Nathman and Cold Warriors like him had once squared off against.

“The ships are definitely Russian,” said noted naval author Norman Polmar after reviewing hi-resolution photos from the event. “There’s no question of that in my mind.”

DNC apologizes for use of Russian ships

Naval experts concluded the background was a photo composite of Russian ships that were overflown by what appear to be U.S. trainer jets. It remains unclear how or why the Democratic Party used what’s believed to be images of the Russian Black Sea Fleet at their convention.

A spokesman for the Democratic National Convention Committee was not able to immediately comment Tuesday, saying he had to track down personnel to find out what had happened.

The background — featured in the carefully choreographed hour leading up to the president’s Sept. 6 speech accepting the Democratic Party’s nomination — showed four ships with radar designs not used in the U.S. fleet.

For example, the ship in the foreground, on the far right, has a square radar antenna at the top of its masthead. That is the MR-700 Podberezovik 3-D early warning radar, commonly identified as “Flat Screen” for its appearance, a three-dimensional early warning radar mounted on the Kerch, said Eric Wertheim, editor of “Combat Fleets of the World.”

It could not have been an accident. Obama said we will have to wait after the election to see what he promised Russia.

NavyTimes: Senator rips Obama’s new veterans jobs plan
    By Rick Maze – Staff writer – Sept 12, 2012 16:56:08 EDT

One of the Senate’s chief deficit hawks complained Wednesday that politicians were making false promises of jobs to veterans by discussing a bill that will never become law — and would provide only temporary work for veterans if it did.

Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., was referring to S 3457, the Veterans Job Corps Act, which would devote $1 billion over five years to creating law enforcement, firefighter and conservation jobs for veterans.

The measure, a pre-election priority for President Obama, was brought to the Senate floor for consideration without going through the normal legislative process.

But Coburn noted that the legislation is “not going anywhere in the House of Representatives” and charged that “what we are really doing is passing a bill for political reasons.”

“We already have six veterans’ job programs. Not one of them has a metric on it to see if it is working. There has not been one hearing to see what the jobs program that we are running now are doing.

Can we forget Nancy Pelosi giggling as Obama signed the bill for U.S. Military Vets who served in Middle-East wars a temp job as aids for D.C. Congressional staff. As in gophers. Violent protests in Libya that claimed the life of the U.S. ambassador were the result of President Obama’s decision to intervene in the Libyan revolt without a “deep appreciation” for what would follow, former CIA Director Michael Hayden tells Newsmax.

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV on Wednesday, Hayden discusses the events in Libya: “I’m reminded of Secretary of State Powell’s comments about Iraq going back almost a decade — the Pottery Barn theory that if you break it you own it.

“Here’s a case where we went into Libya for reasons that seemed very powerful for some people at the time, almost all of them in Tehran, perhaps without a true or deep appreciation for what the secondary and tertiary effects of overthrowing [Libyan ruler Moammar] Gadhafi would be.

The ambassador, Christopher Stevens, and the other Americans were killed after Islamist gunmen attacked the U.S. consulate and a safe house refuge in Benghazi on Tuesday night.

The violence in the eastern city, a cradle of Libya’s U.S.-backed uprising against Muammar Gaddafi last year, came on the anniversary of al Qaeda’s attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001. Another assault was mounted on the U.S. embassy in Cairo in which protesters, who included Islamists and teenage soccer fans, tore down and burned a U.S. flag.

U.S. government officials said the Benghazi attack may have been planned in advance and there were indications that members of a militant faction calling itself Ansar al Sharia – which translates as Supporters of Islamic Law – may have been involved.

They also said some reporting from the region suggested that members of Al-Qaeda’s north Africa-based affiliate, known as Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, may have been involved.

“It bears the hallmarks of an organized attack,” one U.S. official said. However, some U.S. officials cautioned against assuming that the attacks were deliberately organized to coincide with the September 11 anniversary.

The violence in Benghazi and Cairo threatened to spread to other Muslim countries on Wednesday.

Police fired teargas at angry demonstrators outside the U.S. embassy in Tunisia and several hundred people gathered in front of the U.S. embassy in Sudan. In Morocco, a few dozen protesters burned American flags and chanted slogans near the U.S. consulate in Casablanca.

The attacks could alter U.S. attitudes towards the wave of revolutions across the Arab world, which toppled secularist authoritarian leaders in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia, bringing Islamists to power.

The violence could also have an impact on the closely-fought U.S. presidential election campaign.

Mitt Romney, Obama’s rival in the November vote, criticized the president’s response to the crisis. He said the timing of a statement from the U.S. embassy in Cairo denouncing “efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims” made Obama look weak as protesters were attacking U.S. missions.

He said it was “disgraceful” to be seen to be apologizing for American values of free speech.

Libya’s Deputy Interior Minister Wanis Al-Sharif said U.S. staff were rushed to a Benghazi safe house after the initial attack on the consulate and an evacuation plane with U.S. commando units then arrived from Tripoli to evacuate them from the safe house.

“It was supposed to be a secret place and we were surprised the armed groups knew about it. There was shooting,” Sharif said. Two U.S. personnel were killed there, he said. Two other people were killed at the main consular building and between 12 and 17 wounded.

Witnesses said the mob included tribesmen, militia and other gunmen. Hamam, a 17-year-old who took part in the attack, said Ansar al-Sharia cars arrived at the start of the protest but left once fighting started.

“The protesters were running around the compound just looking for Americans, they just wanted to find an American so they could catch one,” he said.

“We started shooting at them, and then some other people also threw hand-made bombs over the fences and started the fires in the buildings,” he said.

“There was some Libyan security for the embassy outside but when the hand-made bombs went off they ran off and left.” Hamam said he saw an American die in front of him in the mayhem that ensued.

The U.S. embassy in Kabul appealed to Afghan leaders for help in “maintaining calm” and Afghanistan shut down the YouTube site so Afghans would not be able to see the film.

The chairman of the U.S. military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, took the unusual step of telephoning a radical Florida Pastor, Terry Jones, and asking him to withdraw his support for the film. Earlier provocative acts by Jones, like publicly burning a Koran, had sparked Muslim unrest.

In Egypt, Prime Minister Hisham Kandil called on Washington to act against the film’s makers for stirring up strife but condemned the violence saying that they had “no relation to the (U.S.) government.”

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the attack was the work of a “small and savage group.”

Abdel-Monem Al-Hurr, spokesman for Libya’s Supreme Security Committee, said Libyan security forces came under heavy fire and “were not prepared for the intensity of the attack.”

Security experts say the area around Benghazi is host to a number of Islamist militant groups who oppose any Western presence in Muslim countries.

U.S. ambassadors in such volatile countries as Libya have tight security, usually travelling in well-protected convoys. Diplomatic missions are normally protected by Marines or other special forces.

The worst-case scenario for Western governments is that the spate of recent unrest in Libya could be the start of an Iraq-style insurgency by Islamist militants. That could hit oil exports as the energy sector depends on foreign workers.

So did they arrest Hamam the 17 year old Muslim youth that helped carry the attack who was allowed to be interviewed by media first.

For over 4 hours and Hillary Clinton calls it a small attack?

Where were Libya security, police, and military during the small 4 hour attack. How come Hamam wasn’t shot dead instead of living to chat with reporters.

Obama is going to hunt them down? Won’t that make the Libyan’s furious if Obama hunts them down.

For near 5 hours battle. Hillary Clinton is calling it “a small” attack.

Where was the Libya security, police, military, fire dept, for 5 hours. On their talkies telling the terrorists where the safe house was.

Washington doesn’t want people to associate it with 9/11 anniversary? The 9/11 day was the happiest, joyful and dancing in the street day for Middle-East countries. They are building a mosque shrine in the NYC building American people died. Probably going to hold a martyr holiday in that mosque.

Obama is probably in his secret mosque bunker that no one is allowed in.
He’s going to put in quite a show.

Obama didn’t call for extra security when the signs were written on the wall.

Reuters: Egypt constitution talks stumble on role of Islam
By Tamim Elyan | Reuters – 12 hrs ago

CAIRO (Reuters) – A proposal by ultraconservative Salafis to give Egypt’s main Islamic institution the final say on whether the law of the land adheres to Islamic laws threatens to bring the already painfully slow process of drafting the new constitution to a grinding halt.

The proposal would give the revered Al-Azhar power similar to a supreme court by making it the arbiter of whether a law conforms with the principles of sharia, already cited in the constitution of ousted leader Hosni Mubarak as Egypt’s “main source” of legislation.

Islamist President Mohamed Mursi holds lawmaking power for now, an awkward arrangement that erodes the credibility of his government, elected after Mubarak was overthrown last year.

At the vanguard of this movement are the Salafis, who were kept out of politics under Mubarak but leaped onto the scene after his fall, taking second place in the country’s first free and fair parliamentary vote in six decades.

Their slogan was to “bring back sharia” – laws derived from Islam’s Holy Koran and the teachings of the Prophet Mohammad – in the belief it would solve Egypt’s moral and social ills.

They say that since Article 2 of the old constitution already says “the principles of sharia” are the main foundation of legislation, they merely want to see this idea fully applied, if not by strengthening the role of Azhar, then by changing the wording to make it just “sharia” itself rather than its principles.

But he added: “After the revolution, Egyptians chose Islamists. Egyptians want Islam and the application of sharia. No one (opposes it) except TV personalities who have a loud voice and are trying to impose a different reality”.

And the Mursi is embracing the Hamas to be new military.

Rueters: Libya rescue squad ran into fierce, accurate ambush

    Hadeel Al Shalchi – Sept 12, 2012

BENGHAZI, Libya (Reuters) – A squad of U.S. troops dispatched by helicopter across the Libyan desert to rescue besieged diplomats from Benghazi on Wednesday ran into a fierce overnight ambush that left a further two Americans dead, Libyan officials told Reuters.

Accounts of the mayhem at the U.S. consulate, where the ambassador and a fourth American died after a chaotic protest over a film insulting to Islam, remain patchy. But two Libyan officials, including the commander of a security force which escorted the U.S. rescuers, said a later assault on a supposedly safe refuge for the diplomats appeared professionally executed.

Miscommunication which understated the number of American survivors awaiting rescue – there were 37, nearly four times as many as the Libyan commander expected – also meant survivors and rescuers found themselves short of transport to escape this second battle, delaying an eventual dawn break for the airport.

“About six mortars fell directly on the path to the villa,” he said. “During this firing, one of the marines whom I had brought with me was wounded and fell to the ground.

“As I was dragging the wounded marine to safety, some marines who were located on the roof of the villa as snipers shouted and the rest of the marines all hit the ground.

“A mortar hit the side of the house. One of the marines from the roof went flying and fell on top of us.”

Having been told to expect 10 Americans and having found 37, Obeidi did not have enough vehicles to break out, despite having one heavy anti-aircraft gun mounted on a pickup truck.

Speaking of the rescue mission, he said: “A team of commandos arrived by air and went to a farm which we thought was a secret location. Once they got there, they came under heavy fire from heavy machineguns, rocket-propelled grenades and automatic rifles, which resulted in the death of two others.”

He estimated that a dozen or more Americans were hurt.

NYT: Spotlight Is on Libya, but Bigger Challenge for White House May Lie in Egypt

By Helene Cooper and Mark Landler – Sept 12,2012
    Published: September 12, 2012

Hours before the attacks in Benghazi on Tuesday, the American Embassy in Cairo came under siege from protesters. While the violence there did not result in any American deaths, the tepid response from the Egyptian government to the assault gave officials in Washington — already troubled by the direction of President Mohamed Morsi’s new Islamist government — further cause for concern.

President Obama, speaking in the Rose Garden on Wednesday, pointedly noted that Libyan authorities had tried to help the American effort to protect diplomats in Benghazi. “This attack will not break the bonds between the United States and Libya,” Mr. Obama said. The Libyans “helped some of our diplomats find safety, and they carried Ambassador Stevens’s body to the hospital, where we tragically learned he had died,” he added, referring to Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens.

Mr. Morsi issued only a mild rebuke of the rioters — and on Facebook — while his movement, the Muslim Brotherhood, has called for a second day of protests against the lurid anti-Muslim video that set off the riots. And though the Egyptian police coordinated with American officials, Mr. Morsi waited 24 hours before issuing his statement against the militants who stormed the embassy; Libyan authorities issued immediate, unequivocal statements of regret for the bloodshed in Benghazi.

Mr. Obama seemed to indicate that the American relationship with Egypt was evolving. “I don’t think that we would consider them an ally, but we don’t consider them an enemy,” he said in an interview with Telemundo that was broadcast Wednesday night on “The Rachel Maddow Show” on MSNBC.

For the United States, “politically the bigger issue is Egypt,” said Martin S. Indyk, a former United States ambassador to Israel. “On the one hand, you didn’t have Americans getting killed, but this was the fourth time an embassy was assaulted in Cairo with the Egyptian police doing precious little,” Mr. Indyk said. “And where was President Morsi’s condemnation of this?”

What makes Egypt’s uncertain course so vexing for the White House is that Mr. Obama, more than any other foreign leader, has sided again and again with the Arab street in Cairo, even when it meant going expressly against the wishes of traditional allies, including the Egyptian military, the Persian Gulf states and Israel.

As recently as June, Mr. Obama was calling on the Egyptian military to quickly hand over power to the democratically elected civilian government — a move that helped Mr. Morsi, whose movement has called for greater use of Islamic law, assume power. At the same time, the administration was chastising the military, which has for 30 years served as the bulwark of a crucial American strategic interest in the Middle East: the 1979 Camp David peace treaty between Egypt and Israel.

For anti-American unrest to erupt in Egypt after all that could reflect a deeper divergence of a once-staunch ally from the United States.

“How does the president go to the Hill and say, ‘We need to forgive $1 billion in Egyptian debt?’ ” said Steven A. Cook, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. “The complication is that this is happening six weeks before the election. The things that the administration wants to do in Egypt have become a heavier lift.”

This article has been revised to reflect the following correction:

    Correction: September 13, 2012

An earlier version of this article misidentified the first overseas country visited by Mohamed Morsi as president of Egypt. It was Saudi Arabia, not China.

The NYT failed to acknowledge the U.S. Navy Seals too.
The NYT also back peddled that Obama had little roll in the Arab Spring and gave inaccurate count of debt Egypt owes America, nor Obama’s recent offer of billions more in aid in the last week.

AP: 3 Afghans killed, NATO chopper destroyed in attack

    Sept 11, 2012

An attack on a U.S. military base killed three Afghan intelligence employees and destroyed a NATO helicopter, Afghan and coalition officials said Tuesday.

Separately, a teenage suicide bomber on Tuesday walked into a shop in western Afghanistan and blew himself up, killing five people.

The attack on Bagram Air Field, a sprawling American base north of Kabul, occurred around 10 p.m. Monday. Militants occasionally fire mortars or rockets at Bagram, but the attacks usually cause little or no damage.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on the base.

“Four rounds hit,” coalition spokesman Army Maj. Adam Wojack said, adding that it was unclear whether rockets or mortars landed on the base. “One of the rounds hit the helicopter and started a fire, which destroyed it.”

Both Afghan and coalition forces were inside the Chinook CH47 when it was hit, he said. Wojack said the three Afghans died and an unspecified number of coalition troops were injured in the attack, but NATO policy prevented him from disclosing details about their injuries.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said in a statement that the rockets fired by the group’s fighters killed nine Afghan intelligence workers and four Americans at the base.

“The bomber was around 14 years old,” he said. “He went to the shop, shook hands with Hakim and then blew himself up.”

FoxNews: Diplomat killed in Libya sent chilling message to fellow gamers before death

    Sept 12, 2012

Sean Smith, a foreign service information management officer assigned to the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, was well known in the online gaming forum EVE Online, where he went by the name “vilerat,” and was seen as a leader by his fellow gamers.

But hours before the bloody assault, Smith sent a message to Alex Gianturco, the director of “Goonswarm,” Smith’s online gaming team or “guild.”

“Assuming we don’t die tonight,” the message, which was first reported by Wired, read. “We saw one of our ‘police’ that guard the compound taking pictures.”

Within hours of posting that message, Smith, a husband and father of two, was dead. Gianturco, who could not be reached for further comment, got the word out to fellow gamers, according to Wired.

“My people, I have greivous [sic] news,” wrote Gianturco. “Vile Rat has been confirmed to be KIA in Benghazi; his family has been informed and the news is likely to break out on the wire services soon.

“Needless to say, we are in shock, have no words, and have nothing but sympathy for his family and children. I have known Vile Rat since 2006, he was one of the oldest of old-guard goons and one of the best and most effective diplomats this game has ever seen.”

On Wednesday, as word spread throughout the guild, tributes poured in for the foreign service information management officer who also was a moderator at the Internet community Something Awful, which is known for posting disturbing photos and videos.

“Vile Rat was a shining example of life lived to its fullest,” wrote another. “A great man in all respects and will be missed by many. Not even 12 hours ago we were talking in jabber, he had made a joke about the lack of security in such places and crappy Internet.

And to think Obama was dumb enough to believe a Libya doctor that said a Libyan carried the dead U.S. Ambassador to the hospital and he spent one and half hours trying to bring him back to life? Are we to believe the Libyans that say they carried 2 wounded US Navy SEALS when they turned out to be dead?

Obama never should have thanked Libya for their aid in what Hillary Clinton insists was a “small” attack that lasted 4 hours.
