Reid Calls Palin Speech ‘Shrill And Sarcastic’

From CNN:

Palin attacks ’shrill and sarcastic,’ says Reid spokesman

September 4, 2008

From CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney

(CNN) — A spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is hitting back hard at Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s speech Wednesday night, calling it “shrill and sarcastic.”

“Anyone who knows Senator Reid knows he never backs down when he’s fighting for what’s right and that he always stands up to John McCain when he is wrong,” Jim Manley, Reid’s press secretary, told CNN. “Shrill and sarcastic political attacks may fire up the Republican base, but they don’t change the fact that a McCain-Palin administration would mean four more years of failed bush-Cheney policies.”

The reaction came after Palin specifically called out Reid during her address to the Republican National Convention, saying the Nevada Democrat “can’t stand up to John McCain.”

“Harry Reid, the Majority Leader of the current do-nothing Senate, not long ago summed up his feelings about our nominee. He said, quote, ‘I can’t stand John McCain,’” Palin said to roaring applause from the crowd. “Clearly what the Majority Leader was driving at is that he can’t stand up to John McCain.”

“Shrill and sarcastic”?

Back when the Democrats were trying to wrest control of Congress, Mr. Reid wasn’t exactly all (ahem) sweetness and light.

From the Associated Press:

Reid: Congress ‘most corrupt in history’

Senate Democratic leader blasts Republican-led Congress

Dec 22, 2005

WASHINGTON - Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid called the Republican-led Congress “the most corrupt in history” Sunday, and distanced himself from Jack Abramoff, a powerful lobbyist at the center of an escalating probe…

Reid, like many members of Congress, Democrats and Republicans, has received campaign contributions from Abramoff clients. Some lawmakers have returned those donations, but Reid gave no indication he would do so

“America can do better than what we’ve done,” said Reid. “The most corrupt Congress in the history of the country. We have such significant problems with what’s going on in this country.” …

A few weeks later, Mr. Reid sought to top this claim by issuing a 27-page press release entitled “Republican Abuse of Power.”

In it Reid criticized lawmakers for ties to disgraced former lobbyist Jack Abramoff. But Reid also attacked some senators with no links to Abramoff for purported offenses that took place before they came to Congress.

Reid later “apologized,” but then went on to attack the Republicans again the next day for — “doublespeak.”

Never mind that this is the same Harry Reid who wrangled a $1.1 million dollar shady land deal. The same Harry Reid who was paying his condo staff with campaign money.

And never mind that this is the same Harry Reid who was (and maybe still is) being investigated by the Justice Department for his own dealings with Jack Abramoff.

Dealings in which Reid netted at least $68,941, which he steadfastly refused to give back or donate to charity — on principle.

But thankfully Mr. Reid has never been shrill or sarcastic.

He’s far too much of a gentleman for that.

Good night all. I cannot believe that I have seen a Republican Women accept the nomination for VP. Pinch me, I must be dreaming. The Rep women were kind of in a daze.

We fought hard, not realizing that our actions would result in a women candidate coming out of the another party.

    Amazing.

All those brilliant politicians and their p.r. guys!

They don’t seem to be able to get out of their own way.

Shrill?? SHRILL?? How pathetic! The 3 female reporters were shaking their heads, having to explain why this was so offensive.

If you had bet me a million bucks I would be voting for McCain and someone not named Hillary Clinton 18 mos ago I would have laughed at you and taken the bet.

I’d be very broke right now.

Sarah Palin’s hard hitting body checkes left her opponents bloodied and brusied. There are now 3 things she must do to win the election.

Come on, Harry, you’re just one step away from making a “like an ex-wife” comment.

I can hear it now - “she’s shrill and demanding and is pro-life - sort of like that hot girl you married and everything changed, with her demanding you do the dishes, help around the house and wear a condom.”

I suspect Kos already has innumerable such posts, as they never have an issue with reducing a Republican female to her utility as a sexual pleasure device, and their female cohorts have no issue with that because, of course, as long as they’re pro-choice…

If you think that’s bad, wait until they find out Harry Reid is A MORMON!!!

Why, the media will…what’s that? They know Reid’s a Mormon?

You mean Moron, they know he’s a moron.

No? They really know he’s a Mormon - like Romney. And, they’re OK with it?

You know, trying to think like a liberal gives me a headache.

    Dem Mormons =OK
REp Mormons = Destroy at any cost.

RB: that’s the problem! Liberals don’t ‘think’, they ‘feel’. Sequential processing of thought never clutters the liberal mind…

Colonel - Everyone knows W.T. Sherman’s quote - “War Is Hell”. But many don’t know the context - though I’m sure you do.

As I understand it, it was the General’s response to a reporter’s question as to whether the burning of Atlanta was necessary. His response was those famous words. His less famous explanation of that declaration was used by General Swartzkopf in Desert Shield (later Desert Storm).

“Anyone can have good intentions. What separates professionals from amatuers is the knowledge of logistics.”

The DNC campaign features the amatuers. Finally, Finally! Last night, we heard from the professionals. And That’s What This Election Is All About!

RB: The misery on the libs’ faces this morning was priceless. A professional grand slam when you think you’re three runs ahead will do that to ya!!

Yes & as a NY Yankee and NY Giant fan, I have seen similar moments:

Bill Buckner game 6 1986 Wold Series (I felt bad for the guy, but it’s always great to see the Sox loose - ah, their almost all liberals anyway)

Only to be outdone by Randy Moss - 2008 Superbowl

With only 2:42 left on the clock - NYG cornerback Corey Webster slipped allowing said Mr. Moss’ to dance into the end zone. Unfortunately for him (and every liberal lovin’ fan in the Peoples Republic of Massatuchetts), the Giants scored and won with on 35 seconds left.

Yeah, I’ve seen that look. Keith Oberman had it last night (he’s probably a Pats/Sox fan too).

Do you notice how they aren’t really attacking her substance - it is all about the sexist demand that she belongs at home with her kids, her shrillness, her great ability to read a speech written for her (didn’t they say the same thing about Reagan) -

I’ve heard them try to go after the Bridge to Nowhere - but two things really get them on that 1) how many people and local poli’s do support something until it becomes known or talked about and 2) it was her knocking down Stevens in the end - And do they want to go there?

So they are insulting her, demeaning her and dismissing her - which is fine - talk up Obama’s connections, talk up Biden’s failures, talk up Congress’s abysmal (lower even than the hated Bush) approval ratings - and let her keep talking - by the time this election happens I expect a 50 (not 57) state sweep.

As was said (Thompson or Giuliani?) - Obama looked back with his VP pick and McCain looked to the future. And it is a future I like and will help greatly to return America to the values and way of life that made her a beacon (not the welfare office) to the World.

Apparently (and as you pointed out, WM4), it’s the Dem gameplan to avoid arguing substance by dismissing an opponent with a few choice adjectives. So, with that in mind, I’m going to use this label every time Reid speaks:

    “Reid speech fay and pointless”

After a while, I may just reduce it to RSFP. It will save me the time of having to explain why he’s fay and pointless.

  12. lime60178

Well, Harry Reid has a lot of experience with Chrill and sarchaxtic. After all, he is a cohort of Nancy Pelosi, who has brought it to a new level of standard.
