Reid Is Forced ‘To Oppose’ 9/11 Mosque

From his press agents at Reuters:

Senator Reid opposes NY Muslim center site

Mon Aug 16, 2010

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Senate’s senior Democrat broke with President Barack Obama on Monday over the proposed Muslim cultural center and mosque in New York City, with Senator Harry Reid saying it should be built elsewhere.

How do we know if Mr. Reid is actually ‘breaking’ with Obama? Has Mr. Obama issued an official fatwa? Last we heard, he was for freedom of religion, but he refused to opinion on the wisdom of building the mosque.

The project, planned near the "ground zero" site of the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York, has emerged as an emotional issue 2-1/2 months before U.S. congressional elections in which Republicans are trying to take back control of Congress from Obama’s fellow Democrats. Reid is in a tight contest for re-election against a very conservative Republican challenger.

Has Reuters ever described Mr. Reid (or, indeed, any politician) as “very liberal”? We suspect not.

But how cynical of Reuters to imply that Mr. Reid is only doing this because he is in a tough election battle.

"The First Amendment (of the U.S. Constitution) protects freedom of religion. Senator Reid respects that but thinks that the mosque should be built someplace else," said Reid spokesman Jim Manley.

The projects backers vowed on Monday to press ahead with their plans and denied a report in Israeli newspaper Haaretz that they will scrap the $100 million project, which has generated fierce debate.

Sharif El-Gamal, the owner of the building where the Cordoba House would be located, said a report that the center would be relocated further from Ground Zero, reported in Israeli newspaper Haaretz on Monday, was false.

"Everything is on track and we are moving forward with the location," said El-Gamal, chief executive of Soho Properties, which owns the building.

Haaretz reported that leaders agreed to abandon the site to prevent an escalation of anti-Muslim sentiment…

Actually, only the Haaretz headline implied that. The article itself did not. Unfortunately, too many people today do not bother to read past the headlines.

In any case, we are pleased to announce that we have a suggestion on how to get pass this conundrum.

We are constantly told that the Muslims behind the project are only building the Cordoba House as a grand gesture of outreach to the community.

Indeed, the Cordoba Initiative (which is a tax exempt 501c3 ‘charity,’ by the way) spells out their general mission on their form 990, available via GuideStar:

If all of this so – and who can doubt it? – then the Cordoba folks should be only to happy to raise the necessary money and give it and the rights to the building to the YMCA, so that they could erect an interfaith center on the site. Just as the YMCA have done everywhere else in this country and around the world (except, of course, in Muslim countries).

That way there could be no possible concerns that the Muslims involved are using this building to proselytize for their faith or to vaunt over any supposed victory.

Of course there would be a bronze plaque on the front of the building, spelling out how the Cordoba group raised the money and donated it to  promote peace and understanding between the Islam and the rest of the world.

In the end the Cordoba House will have accomplished its purported mission, and everyone will be happy – and indeed, grateful for their wonderful and noble generosity.

More to the point, no mosques should be built in the United States–period. If Islam met the criteria for a “church” or religion rather than that of a fortress and political ideology, it would be different.

    Fixed that for you.

The old Burlington Coat Factory store may now be called the Jihad Symtex Vest Community Center for the American Infidels Mosque.
Or if you will: The J.S.V.C.C. for the A.I.M.

    Obama has kissed the baby!

I stopped caring what Harry Reid thinks or says long ago.

I care what I think and say. He is preposterous. He is a proven liar. He’s full of crap. Therefore, he is no longer relevant.

More ‘wet finger to the wind” of the targeted voter.

Its so obvious it SHOULD make even more voters angry…but it probably won’t. There are some who will buy into it.

Not only do the Muslims want to build the Cordoba house but they are already on target to construct the visitor center and walkway at the Shankeville, Pa. crash site which needs to be stopped also:

Tater…I have mentioned this a couple of times as well.

I really don’t understand why this isn’t being added to the WTC mosque complaints. It supports all those arguments against it.

I had the privilege to visit the Flight 93 crash site a couple of years ago on a trip to NE. We visited all crash sites of that day.

It is a sacred place where the love of Americans are simply expressed by attaching items to a section of chain link fencing along with seats dedicated to the heroes. Crosses and other items donated by organizations over look the field where the crash took place. You really got the emotion of the event in a most profound way.

I refuse to visit the new “Crescent” ‘memorial’.

I refuse to enter a crescent aimed at Mecca. That to me would be a mockery. It would make me a part of the dishonor aimed at the heroes.
