Reid: Senate Bill Includes A Public Option

From a victorious Associated Press:

Senate healthcare bill includes public option

By John Whitesides And Donna Smith

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Democratic leader Harry Reid said on Monday the Senate’s healthcare overhaul will include a government-run insurance plan that lets states opt out, handing liberals an early victory on the bill’s most contentious issue.

After days of closed-door talks, Reid said he would include the "public" insurance option in a healthcare reform bill headed to the Senate floor for debate because it was the best way to lower costs and create competition.

"I believe there’s a strong consensus to move forward in this direction," he told reporters, declining to say if he had commitments for the 60 Senate votes needed to pass a healthcare bill including the public option.

Reid’s compromise decision was praised by many fellow Democrats but condemned by Republicans and the health insurance industry, whose stock prices fell out of apparent concern about the prospect of competition from the government-run plan.

The White House said President Barack Obama was "pleased" that a public option was included in the bill…

A Thomson Reuters report found the U.S. healthcare system wastes $505 billion to $850 billion a year and that proposed reforms could be paid for by fixing some of the most obvious inefficiencies, preventing mistakes and fighting fraud.

What a soap opera.

As if there was ever any doubt.

A Thomson Reuters report found the U.S. healthcare system wastes $505 billion to $850 billion a year and that proposed reforms could be paid for by fixing some of the most obvious inefficiencies, preventing mistakes and fighting fraud.

Aren’t these the very same economic experts who are perpetually surprised by the jobless rate being up or down?

“A Thomson Reuters report found the U.S. healthcare system wastes $505 billion to $850 billion”

The following phrase must have got lost in the editing process:
“because of government intervention to payoff the criminals who finance the elections of the con artists in congress”

  2. Right of the People says:

Hey Harry, follow the yellow brick road.

This clown and the rest of his posse have lost touch with reality. I can’t believe the good people of Nevada keep re-electing this bozo.

  3. U NO HOO says:

Let us just form a non-public option but let the public opt in.

  4. Liberals Demise says:

One only need to turn on the evening news and see the long lines waiting for the non existent H1N1 serum to see what gubbamint health will look like.

I remember seeing the same lines in the news of the old USSR forty tears ago as people waited in line for potatoes and toilet paper.

    Anyone notice anything similar?

Hasn’t the president himself defined the “waste” in the healthcare system as the profits that insurance companies make?

Obama never reads the bills or military reports, because he wants to leave himself open to blame others. Even in his book, he said, that his aids and staff did all the bills, and he left quickly, his day spent mostly, in motels getting donors, and making phone calls. I also, think that’s why he listed dozens of people that helped him right Audicity of Hope, so he can blame them for the absolute b.s. on foreign policy in it.

    • Right of the People says:

I wonder what he was really doing in those motel rooms to raise his money? I can just see him now in a French Maid’s outfit.

  7. canary says:

I pray all Obama’s evil plans fail.

    • catie says:

I do too! To quote Rush, “I hope he fails!!!!” with his evil plans. However, I wish he’d get off his arse and send more troops in. I wonder how Celina is doing as I know her husband is over there too as well as Bobby will be going soon if he hasn’t gone already. I wanted to smack him with his stupid remarks to the Navy folks the other day. The Audacity of Dope!

Poor Harry – the Little Man Syndrome poster child.

There is no doubt he was beaten daily on the playground for wearing girls panties.

    Now it’s payback time.
