Senate rebukes Obama, blocks Guantanamo shutdown

WASHINGTON – In a rare, bipartisan defeat for President Barack Obama, the Senate voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to keep the prison at Guantanamo Bay open for the foreseeable future…

It will be next month at the earliest before Congress completes work on the legislation, giving the White House time pursue a compromise that would allow the president to fulfill his pledge.

But Obama’s maneuvering room was further constrained during the day when FBI Director Robert Mueller told a congressional panel that he had concerns about bringing Guantanamo Bay detainees to prisons in the United States. Mueller, who was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2001 and is serving a 10-year fixed term in office.

On a vote of 92-3, the Senate agreed to require the administration, before releasing any detainee, to inform Congress of the likelihood that he would return to terrorism. Mueller declined. He noted that in some instances gang leaders have run their gangs from inside prisons.

Beauty of Reason, It was during a game commercial when a bare-armed woman was brushing her teeth. And the guards say any little thing turns them into a riot. Many are in their own cells, and just sliding a plate of food through the slot is dangerous. The more behaved prisoners are in dorm rooms rather then cells. Many don’t want to be released. Many prisoners admit they will kill for allah if released.
David, I agree. The Democrats are getting fleas from laying down with Obombies.

AP should know about medical privacy regs. Politicans don’t want voters knowing if they are insane, socialpaths, deranged, dying, and Ted Kennedy’s brain could be a blob by now, yet alone the effect of poison from chemo. Turns out JFK was on major prescription drugs for pain and to stay awake. Clinton didn’t want those emergency records of
nose bleeds from his sniffing problem while serving Arkansas.

What concerns me is the Democrat tendency to say the opposite of what they mean. (Obama’s “fiscal responsibility” and “tax cuts” we have to pay taxes on are a couple of examples) Perhaps they really are planning on straight up releasing them. My guess is that they will just use the no funding stunt to wait until the media has decided this isn’t big news anymore and do what they planned along. When anyone calls the Dems on it they will just point to the fact that it is all “old news”.
What I find disconcerting about the whole debacle is that a sizable chunk of these Democrat’s supporters believe Pres. Bush planned 9-11. With that view there can be no reason to hold any terrorists.

This is just the rear-guard action by the TMCC when they realized that:

1. Americans won’t tolerate releasing terrorists in our country, and
2. Although this issue titillates the more committed nuts, it doesn’t advance the core agenda of destroying the republic.

So rather than having The Moron pull another magic mirror show where the lie yesterday becomes the truth today, they decided to outsource the scat dance to Reaper Reid.

You know this is getting interesting – Reid & Pelosi who are sitting in the cat bird’s proverbial seat – are sounding like idiots. And the Dems who are in 2 of 3 (and on the verge of securing the 3rd one) seats of American power – aren’t accomplishing what they wanted. I wonder why? Perhaps they are finding out – most especially in relation to the GWOT, Gitmo and now taxes – that it is indeed WE THE PEOPLE who are the real power in America.

Power to the People. Vote ‘em all out in 2010 and 2012 – and let’s set up Term Limits, no lifetime retirement, pay caps and repeal the 16th Amendment – and give the Power back to the rightful owners of it – the citizens of this country.

Man – Pelosi and Reid must be polling in the single digits and worried sick over it – wonder if it is translating into no $$$$$$$$$$$$$ in their ‘re-election’ coffers?!?

It wouldn’t be the MSM if it were any other way, but they have of course flipped the script. These people can’t simply ‘be imprisoned’ in the U.S. the same way they can be at Guantanamo. They would have to go to trial and be convicted. Then they would have a prison sentence, and at the end of that sentence…bingo…they would have to be released into the U.S. general population. That’s aside from the fact that the good reporter may wish to ‘not talk about’ the Uighurs, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. But as Mr. Cheney, and now apparently Mr. Reid at his own great personal expense have discussed, these problems go away if you leave the prison at Guantanamo open.
