ACORN – ‘Advice You Can Bank On’

[Note: this is a repost of an article we published almost exactly a year ago, on September 16, 2008, but somehow it seems very timely again.]

From ACORN’s website:

Our Homebuyer’s Program

Intimidating to nearly everyone, the homebuying process seems impossible to millions of low and moderate income Americans. ACORN Housing’s mortgage counseling program eases the difficulty of buying a home for those with low incomes – we’ve helped over 50,000 families to achieve their dreams of homeownership since 1986. We have also assisted hundreds of existing homeowners to avoid foreclosure and preserve their homes-including victims of predatory lending and others who’ve faced serious and unexpected financial hardships.

ACORN Housing Counselors make the homebuying process more accessible to first-time buyers. Instead of having to approach bankers or contend with brokers, first-time homebuyers can meet our counselors in the local ACORN Housing office to pre-qualify for a mortgage. If you have credit problems, you’ll learn ways to resolve them. If you don’t qualify for the program right away, you can attend our free Budget and Credit Seminar for additional help with financial management.

As a community-based, non-profit housing counseling agency we’re here to help you choose the loan option that’s best for you. ACORN Housing’s loan counseling program is HUD certified and our services are free of charge.

We provide pre-purchase counseling for low to moderate income homebuyers. See HUD Income limits for your area to see if you are eligible.

We look at your savings and credit history to see if you qualify for a mortgage. We can help you with credit problems and to create a downpayment savings plan. When you qualify, we can help arrange a mortgage with lower interest rates, lower down payments and lower settlement costs than what banks usually offer.

Mortgage Programs

Through ACORN Housing, homebuyers can gain access to mortgage programs with lower interest rates, lower down payments, flexible underwriting guidelines and lower origination fees. With AHC, you can refinance for better terms through the innovative agreements we’ve formed with lenders.

With AHC you get:

* Lower down payments and closing costs.

* No Private Mortage Insurance.

* Banks generally require 3 months of mortgage payments in the bank at settlement.

* With our program, they don’t, which allows you to buy a home sooner.

* Most banks won’t count public assistance or voluntarily child support in determining if you’ll qualify for a mortgage.

*With our program, all steady income counts.

Can We Help You?

Please continue on with our four step Counseling program listed below to learn more about AHC homebuying services available to you.

It would almost be laughable, if it weren’t literally billions of our tax dollars at work.

Please, please just get us to the 2010 elections so we can “clear out” the majority of Democrats who back this lunatic, if not criminal type of behavior. Seems that the “community organizer” is going beyond the organizing part if you ask me…….at taxpayers expense!

  2. wardmama4 says:

And by some vague wording ACORN also gets $40. from every loan over $100,000. – which covers a vast majority of them. Why? Someone, anyone.

And oh btw – how many conservative Community organizations are getting 8.5 billion out of the Porkulus bill? Or getting any money from any transaction at government mandate?

Sort of like that other non-profit – Planned Parenthood – receiving taxpayer funds, charging an arm and a womb occupant to its clients and also scamming money through such mandated government ‘requirements’.

While I’d love to shut them down and cut all funds – immediately – I’d even go for a simple phase out 1% cut the first 2 years, 5% the next 2 years and so on – give them time to end it all (16 years to end), plenty of prior warning (so the scammers can find a real job – oh wait, in this economy that isn’t happening) and would be a real tax cut to all of us who pay our taxes. And get rid of scammers, shammers and outright thieves. Not to mention their scamming organizations.

We pay billions of dollars to teach people how to be con artists.

No surprise that it’s the job description of the political class.

    Like father, like son.

  4. MinnesotaRush says:

Remember as well, ACORN has roughly 137 “branches” .. ALL diseased!

They ALL need to be cut down and burned.

  5. Here you are seeing how the mortgage crisis came about. The HUD/ACORN.Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac had a big part. It seems that they are doing the same old, same old.

In Atlanta there are whole blocks that have never had a transaction that wasn’t fraudulent in the past 5 years. None of these people are going to jail. Why not?

    • Liberals Demise says:

Because they will trump with their “RACE” card. Which I’m getting sick up and fed of them throwing every time on every occasion, no matter what!!

It’s like Bart Simpson saying, “I didn’t do it!” every time he was caught red handed. Maybe ‘WE’ need to throw our own race card each and every time these clowns toss theirs!!
We can make our card the “Criminal Race” card that knows no color barriers!

Plain and simple……these people are out in out criminals!!
