Reuters Claims 750,000 Workers Could Be Fired

From the shameless fear mongers at Reuters:

Reuters caption: A poster replicating a notice of job termination for 750,000 Americans due to the impending sequestration, is pictured during a news conference by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Capitol Hill in Washington February 28, 2013.

Notice that photo and its caption. No responsible person is claiming that 750,000 people will be fired or terminated or even "laid off." The worst is they will be ‘furloughed,’ which will only amount to having a few (eventually paid) ‘long weekends.’

But these are the kind of lies that Nancy Pelosi and her minions at Reuters hope the ‘low information voters’ will swallow.

U.S. stares down start of steep "automatic" budget cuts

By Richard Cowan | Mar 1, 2013

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. government hurtled on Friday toward making deep spending cuts that threaten to hinder the nation’s economic recovery, after Republicans and Democrats failed to agree on an alternative deficit-reduction plan…

They are not deep cuts. They are not even cuts.

Barring any breakthroughs in the next few hours, the cuts will begin to come into force at some time before midnight on Friday night. The full brunt of the belt tightening, known in Washington as "sequestration," will take effect over seven months so it is not clear if there will be an immediate disruption to public services.

President Barack Obama meets top leaders of Congress at the White House at 10 a.m. EST to explore ways to avoid the unprecedented, across-the-board cuts totaling $85 billion.

Fortunately, he didn’t wait until the last minute.

Congress can stop the cuts at any time after they start on Friday if the parties agree to that.

Which means we are going to have a full court press from the news media and the rest of the Democrat Party to have that happen. In fact, this is sure to be a repeat of the way our one party news media did everything in their power to try to get GHW Bush to break his ‘read my lips, no new taxes’ pledge.

In the absence of any deal at all, the Pentagon will be forced to slice 13 percent of its budget between now and September 30. Most non-defense programs, from NASA space exploration to federally backed education and law enforcement, face a 9 percent reduction.

This is misleading, as well. In fact, half of the cuts are in defense spending. Which is only 19% of the budget. So the military will be bearing an undue burden.

Additionally, more than 2/3rds of the domestic programs, the so-called social safety net, are exempted. why it’s NASA and air traffic controllers meat inspectors who are the ones facing ‘the meat cleaver.’

Despite dire predictions that the budget cuts will jeopardize 750,000 jobs, rank-and-file Republicans and Democrats sounded as if they were itching for this fight to play out

Notice how Reuters is trying to make this blatant lie from a pathological liar, Nancy Pelosi, sound like a fact.

Liberal Democratic Representative Ed Markey of Massachusetts predicted a political victory for Obama in the days after the spending cuts are triggered.

He likened this fight to a Republican-led U.S. government shutdown in late 1995 and early 1996…

Lest we forget, there have been numerous government shut downs over the years. In fact, there were federal shutdowns in every year of Jimmy Carter’s Presidency. And during President Reagan’s two terms, there were six shutdowns.

And nobody ever noticed any of them, either.
