Reuters: His Most Coherent Speech On Syria Policy

From an unfazed Reuters:

Obama to explore diplomatic route on Syria chemical weapons

By Steve Holland and Jeff Mason | September 11, 2013

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama pledged on Tuesday to explore a diplomatic plan from Russia to take away Syria’s chemical weapons, but voiced skepticism about it and urged Americans to support his threat to use military force if needed.

So Reuters is now accepting the Obama revision that this plan is from Russia, and not Kerry’s ‘goof.’

Faced with resistance in polls and Congress to the use of force against Syria, Obama said a Russian offer to pressure President Bashar al-Assad to place his government’s chemical weapons under international control raised the chances of putting off the limited military strike that he is considering.

If Putin suggested this last week (and even ‘for a long time’) why was Obama still demanding we do a strike for the last few weeks? And demanding that Congress give him the approval for such a strike?

"Over the last few days, we’ve seen some encouraging signs," Obama said in televised speech from the White House that attempted to offer a clear case for why it is in Americans’ interests to intervene in Syria’s civil war.

If the proposal was made last week, what has changed "over the last few days"? Besides, we thought Obama was making the case for not intervening. At least, not at this time.

Obama asked leaders in Congress to put off a vote on his request to authorize the use of military force to let diplomacy play out. He said U.S. Navy ships in the eastern Mediterranean and other forces in the region are in place and ready to respond should diplomacy fail…

One of those ships is named the USS Barry.

In a speech of only 16 minutes, Obama gave perhaps the most coherent expression of his Syria policy to date following weeks of muddled messages by his administration as opposition to a U.S. military strike mounted…

Reuters says this speech was a "coherent expression" of Obama’s Syria policy? They seem to be the only ones who think so.

"It’s too early to tell whether this offer will succeed. And any agreement must verify that the Assad regime keeps its commitments. But this initiative has the potential to remove the threat of chemical weapons without the use of force, particularly because Russia is one of Assad’s strongest allies," said Obama…

This is "coherent"? Trusting one of Assad’s strongest allies to take away his chemical weapons?

He set no deadlines for diplomacy to run its course but said the United States will work with Russia and China to put forward a resolution at the U.N. Security Council requiring Assad to give up his supplies of sarin (sic), mustard gas and VX nerve agents…

And UN resolutions never fail to accomplish their goals.

The Russian diplomatic initiative, which emerged after off-the-cuff remarks by Secretary of State John Kerry on Monday alluding to such an idea, marked a sudden reversal following weeks in which the West seemed headed toward intervening in Syria’s 2-1/2-year-old civil war.

Obama now finds himself somewhat dependent on Russian President Vladimir Putin to use his influence on Syria. It is a remarkable turnaround in relations between two leaders who are wary of each other and have bickered all year, particularly over Russia’s decision to give temporary asylum to former U.S. spy agency contractor Edward Snowden…

If Obama were a Republican this "remarkable turnaround" would be described as a calamitous setback. A disastrous loss of face that will cripple the rest of his term. But since it is Obama, it is a brilliant success story.

The White House spin-machine already WROTE the story line for all the media out there. We don’t have news anymore. As seen by the Conan O’Brien montage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKziIEXT6MU

    Also another one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZElSajQdOo

The explanation for all of it via the Washington Post is here: http://tinyurl.com/pkerr6y

The short answer is, THE MEDIA IS LAZY! They give the same canned news reports from a single source is because they are CHEAP, STUPID, and LAZY.

The New York Times gave CBS/NBC/ABC/PBS/NEWSWEEK/TIME MAGAZINE etc. the same broadcast news and opinions, that’s why whenever you switched the channel, it was the same 10 minutes of national news.

The White House writes the news now, and with government goodies to hand out, the media people fall right into line.

It wasn’t a Kerry goof. Kerry’s goof had a time limit. He wanted Syria to hand over all of its chemical weapons in a week. Obama’s “plan”, which by all media accounts is the most brilliant thing since Al Gore invented fire, has no time limit. So Obama claiming it and owning it has made Kerry’s gaffe even more idiotic. Just another “let it slide” moment in American history.

The sad part is, I have more faith in Putin than I do in anything Obama says or does. He’s just a more honest guy.

I only watched the part where he lectured us on use of gas in WW I and how the “Final Solution” was enforced by Hitler’s Germany.

After I cut that off, I realized he was lecturing the people on history the way someone does when they suddenly have learned something that the rest of us held as common knowledge. His tone, demeanor and attitude revealed it as such.

We’ve all experienced this at one time or another or maybe have been the poor soul who went on an explanation of a revelation that all our friends were privy to long before our own lightbulb came on.

But this jerk-wad has the balls to lecture the world on how gas was used in the past. Only the Rachel Jeantels of the world are that ignorant. Admittedly there are a lot of them but I doubt they tuned in to listen to president Lie-tella talk about something that had nothing to do with their getting free stuff.

Smartest man in the room, tightly creased pants. *sigh*. Yeah…the gangsters of the 30’s wore some pretty sharp clothes too and were arguably more intelligent than this president. He has proven over and over again his glaring ignorance of pretty much everything except how to piss people off,as a community organizer does.

No real education, no experience in the world, no compassion for anyone…a certifiable sociopath, liar and on and on. I will celebrate heavily when he’s gone.

Like all nerobama speeches and appearances on TV, I didn’t watch. I watched a 1933 Sherlock Holmes movie and went to bed before 9pm.

Everytime I see his face I turn the channel or mute the sound. If it happens to be just a clip on the news I pay as little attention as possible. I really dislike being lied to.
