Analysis: Obama’s economic speeches pound Republicans

By Steve Holland | August 8, 2013

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The economic policy speeches President Barack Obama has been delivering in recent weeks are turning out to be blunt attacks on Republicans, with an eye toward coming fiscal battles and the 2014 congressional elections.

And yet Obama is making the US taxpayers pay for all of his campaign swings by pretending to be promoting his plan to fix the economy.

Obama’s basic message across the country, most recently sounded on Tuesday in Arizona, is that while he has made great strides in improving the economy, further progress is being thwarted by Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives.

By obstructing his proposals, Republicans are hurting the nation’s "most vulnerable children," Obama said, along with farmers, the military, home-buyers, middle-class job seekers, immigrants and businesses seeking to hire immigrants.

Why did he leave out the gays and the Indians and the ‘differently abled’?

From Galesburg, Illinois, to Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Phoenix, Arizona, Obama has been unrelenting in tone, attacking "slash-and-burn partisanship," "phony scandals," and the "gutted" farm bill – all the work of Republicans now spoiling for a fight that "could plunge us back in financial crisis."

Yes, this partisanship could slow down the juggernaut economy that has given us an amazing 1.7% GDP.

Offering what he considers a moderate position on overhauling policies governing the housing industry, Obama said in Phoenix on Tuesday: "First, private capital should take a bigger role in the mortgage market. I know that’s confusing to folks who call me a socialist." …

It’s not at all confusing. Socialists always try to use other people’s money for their schemes. In this case, Obama wants to increase the pressure on banks to give mortgages to people who should not get them.

But now he doesn’t want those mortgages to get any backing from the government. If the mortgages fail, and they will, he wants the banks to take all of the losses. Which is exactly what socialists always do.

The president and Republicans in Congress confront two major spending showdowns this fall: the first over a bill in September to continue funding the government and the second, probably in October, to raise the government’s borrowing power so it can keep paying its bills.

And both are only important insofar as Obama and the Democrats can use them to vilify the Republicans in the run up to the midterm elections.

The midterm elections… are in November 2014 and fundraising by Democrats and Republicans is well under way. Both parties need issues to inspire contributions.

It is normal for a president to join the fray on behalf of his party in a midterm election, though White House officials insist that beyond fundraising for Democrats, Obama is not focused at all on the 2014 races…

No, Obama is totally focused on jobs.

But bit by bit, Obama is building an argument for why he feels many Republicans are willing to do damage to the U.S. economy for political gain…

So Obama can’t even be bothered to come up with any new campaign slogans. He’s just recycling the old canard that the House Republicans are trying to ‘sabotage the economy.’

But just imagine that. The man who gave us Obama-Care and dozens of other new taxes and thousands of new regulations — the man who is trying to kill our coal and oil industry — that man is accusing the Republicans of ‘trying to sabotage the economy.’

First he claims that he was successful in his efforts to circumvent Congress and that we’re in a “recovery” because of it. Then he claims that Congress has stopped his plans from succeeding. Which is it?

Obama is a hand puppet put in place to absorb attention while the real villains go about their evil work

I completely agree GBJ. It seems that not many agree as they are always talking about O did this, O did that like he’s at the wheel of the ship. I think he has very little say.

the meltdown began in ’06 before obiwan took office. msm (and therefore low infos) blame Bush, of course, because it started during his watch. obiwan is the main mouthpiece because he is VERY effective with the low infos. Much better than shrillary would have been. that is why he got the nod and she was skipped over, even though she was “owed” so much more. she got game with whitey libs but at that time there was no one who could fire up ALL the disparate lib groups (including the minority vote) quite like the big O. do not make the mistake of thinking him a puppet. critical underestimation. he is just as effective as any other radical fascist out there. Look what he has accomplished so far. many will say he has been a monstrous failure as a leader for our country. but don’t look at it in the frame of doing well for our nation. look at it as how far he (and his party) have come in wreaking havoc on the once great and respected USA. This is by design and he has largely succeeded. even hillBilly didn’t do this much damage and he had control of both house and senate. once O’care is entrenched (and it nearly is) i fear doom, mainly because i don’t see any meaningful effort in d.c. to stop it.

i don’t mean to imply that i think he’s in charge, i don’t . but he is as effective as any other high official in their party, and more so at rousing the rabble!

I dig what you’re saying yayaya and agree but how dare you drag Obi-wan’s name through the dirt…

my apologies,v sir. but even though obummy declared that he was incapable of performing the Jedi Mind Meld on a few house republicans, i still believe that the campaign fainting spells were indicative of his enormous ability to influence the masses through shear strength of ego! (Ahem, excuse me, i meant will) he even made shrillary bonk her noggin.
